On a hot summer day, I ordered pad thai and Hmong pork egg rolls. I dined in. Mama Mai's is no frills. It shares a building with a laundromat and an Asian grocery store. The dining space was clean and simple. The service was friendly and fast. The portion size for the pad thai (I chose shrimp) was generous. The flavors were great. This restaurant is the latest in a line that have filled the space once occupied by Marvin's, but this one feels like it might last. We were in town for the weekend and were looking for something we hadn't tried before... so we gave Mama Mai's a shot. We didn't regret it, as the Pad Thai, curry fried rice, and spring rolls were very delicious. The Pad Thai had warm flavor, the fried rice had a bit of heat, though not too much, and the spring rolls were crispy and hot, bursting with savory goodness. While it wasn't the greatest food I've had, or even our local favorite, it was reasonably priced, the staff were friendly, and it provides variety that can be pretty difficult to find otherwise in Stevens Point. Mama Mai's might not look like much from the outside, but it's definitely one of the hidden gems in Stevens Point. They have a great menu of various food items, including lots of noodle and rice dishes, and yummy appetizers. Their spring rolls are probably one of my favorites in town! I had a bowl of their pho, and it was good. I didn't dine inside because I ordered carry out, but when I was there to wait for my food, there were a lot of people eating inside. First time here for takeout today and already I can't wait to go back! Wow, knockout flavors on all 3 dishes I tried. Had the Steamrolls appetizer which is a soft rice paper/noodle wrapped around ground pork, mushroom, and other fillings, it came with some nice diced pâté on top, cilantro and fried shallots, and the Hmong pepper sauce it comes with tastes like it also has ground peanuts in it, so good! If you like spring/summer rolls, I bet you would like these. Also got the Papaya Salad, there's a choice between Lao and Thai style; I've had Thai style a lot before so I tried the Lao. I would call it a slightly earthier, duskier sauce, maybe more complex with more going on than regular Thai papaya salad? Nice crunchy papaya shreds, beans, cherry tomatoes, peanuts, plus other beautiful vegetables I'm not sure I recognize but loved! (Need to learn more about the Lao style, I'm so curious now!) Didn't come with a hunk of raw cabbage as I'm used to w/ Thai style, which may be the Lao preparation, which I really liked actually. Everything was dressed together and so good, a really beautiful & powerfully fresh dish. And finally, kind of a boring go-to, but I love me some Pad Thai and this is honestly among the best I've ever had! (Maybe THE BEST?!) Perfect sauce to noodles ratio, had some nice fresh bean sprouts on top and green onions. Mine did not have a fried egg on top as some other reviewers mentioned, which was totally fine with me. I asked for everything with medium spice and it was perfect for me, the steamrolls pepper sauce was more on the mild side, totally good so I could taste the complexity of it, but the papaya salad and the Pad Thai had great heat with a nice burn that didn't linger too long, exactly what a medium should be. This was more than plenty food for two people. Take out is super safe with a masked up staff member passing the food through a takeout window by the front door. They also had a nice patio carved out of the parking lot that I would be totally comfortable dining in given the rest of the precautions I could see they're taking. We are just in town visiting in-laws, but I can't wait to come back here with my husband the next time we're in Stevens Point! read more

Ambiance may not be the top ranking at this restaurant, but the flavorful food prepared one dish at time, definitely is! The menu is diverse enough for most tastes, and the kitchen will temper the spice accordingly. The tea selection is really fun, especially with all of the Boba flavors. I had mango. The rice flour rolls with meat filling were outstanding. I loved the peanut sauce and other crunchy toppings to go with! I followed that with a chicken and rice noodle bowl that was very large and filling. My son had a Thai chicken dish that had peanuts sauce and a medium "heat". The young lady in the front has a "pick and choose" customer service. When we went in the last time, she talked to her table (unsure if she knew them) the whole time even when the table had their food. You could tell the other customer looked annoyed. I come here often for take out and less for dine-in mostly because of my busy schedule. I get the same great service each time. The servers are genuine, attentive and friendly. Even though I'm in and out with my to-go orders, they always treat me like I'm dining in: warm greeting, friendly side conversation and warm send-off. I think the flavors of their dishes fit what you're looking for. Their peanut sauce for egg rolls and pepper sauce for their Angel Wings (vermicelli noodle-filled-drumsticks) are some of the best I've had. The papaya salad is great. Pho is good and hits the spot. The place smelled amazing as soon as I entered...a young boy opened the door for me when he saw me taking my time, super welcoming! The food was ready on time, super generous portions, hot and delicious! I got the regular pho and curry for my boyfriend who enjoys spicy food. My belly was full, he loved the heat and it was very comforting. I also forgot my card in the machine which I remembered and was able to retrieve the next day. Great job, thank you! read more

Being a new restaurant that opened a little under a year ago I believe in giving it at least three chances. Today was my third time there. The food is inconsistant and the service IS getting better. The pho broth today was the best it has been since my first time there so that's a plus. The rice noodles however were too hard. The springrolls were big and had a good variety in them. But again the deal breaker was the noodles. The vermicelli noodles were too soft almost mushy like. I think I will go back maybe after a year when they are more consistent with the quality and quantity of their food. read more

LOVE this place!! Just went there for the first time and all the flavors in their food are incredible. Best Pad Thai I've ever had, the papaya and cucumber salads were delicious too (spicy!)! My mom's chicken curry was amazing and so flavorful, and the sticky rice was purple! Even the sweet and sour sauce we got with the crab Rangoon was better than others I've had with more tanginess and kick. Say outside. Ordered pad Thai (one spicy one mild), a medium curry, and a larb salad. All dishes except salad arrived together and we were told it would take another 10-15 for the salad. It did, and the salad was the hottest dish were ordered! Sadly inedible for me, way too hot. Pad Thai dishes were to be expected, and fairly good. Curry had canned mushrooms, canned corn, and tasted ok. Server was new and I get that- I've been there! But he should have checked back in with us.
