Went in on a saturday. We were a bit early before dinner so no one else was seated inside when we went in. We didnt get greeted right away even though there were about 5 people behind the bar. Took a minute for someone to finally greet us and seat us. Took 30 minutes for our appetizers of fried vegetables and takoyaki to come out. Took a total of about 45-50 minutes for our ramen and 5 sushi rolls to come out. Food took a bit too long to come out. Very good quality sushi, my associates and I stopped here and we ordered a wide variety of different foods, they were all amazing! Only complaint I would have is the prices are a bit high, but not horrible, for about 3 people it was $105 or so without tip, so definitely not a stop if you're on a budget, but a great place for a date night, we came roughly around noon, so it wasn't super busy, but I am told it does get busy later, so watch out for that read more

Had some very nice vegetarian sushi here as well as the teriyaki tofu. Everything came out super quickly and the service was excellent!

Romaine in salad was entirely the tough upper leaves that I trim away at home. The Tempura was brown and dripping oil instead of beige and dry like good Tempura should be they used dirty oil and didn't heat it to a high enough temperature. Thank goodness we have Matsu Ya here in Stevens Point. I was getting a bit weary about finding good Japanese/Asian food in town because I was quite disappointed by some nearby competitors, but Matsu Ya is probably one of the best there is here. I honestly cannot comment on this sushi since all I've tried here is their California rolls, but their kitchen entree menu items are really good! Prices are also great, especially their lunch specials. Service has also been super swift and efficient. I only have ordered takeout at Matsu Ya, and they've developed an easy pickup system at the side of the restaurant. Maybe one day, I'll muster of the courage to try their sushi (I'm picky about sushi so not sure when that will be) but I know where to go to for my Japanese food fix! read more

Remember...this is central Wisconsin! This has been the new best sushi since coming here from Seattle last year. The restaurant overall is pleasant, clean and has a great friendly atmosphere. The staff was friendly and extremely attentive. The menu has a wide range of sushi choices and great descriptions of the rolls. Again, remember this is the Midwest and crab is most likely imitation. That seems to be the norm so we have been learning to go with the flow! We did 3 rolls and all 3 were excellent. Very tasty...delicious! We also did a teriyaki chicken that was outstanding. So disappointed in my experience at Matsu Ya! I visited recently for lunch and I should have turned around and left right away. Sushi Rule #1: If a sushi restaurant smells like fish, don't eat there! Well, I broke my own rule. Sigh. I'll be honest, the only reason this is a two star review, instead of only one, is I'm giving Matsu Ya an extra star because I didn't get sick after eating the sushi. Ordered curbside pickup and I was already running past the promised pickup time but still had to wait another 30 min to get my order after I arrived. Resturant was not busy whatsoever when i was waiting. Seemed to really not have any order organization as the employee just kept shuffling around receipts and partial orders on the table. Staff was not much of a help or welcoming. Just kept making excuses. When employee confronted management about my concern she didnt seem to care and was more worried about making a phone call. Once they finally gathered my order together they packaged my soup ontop of my other food loosely in a plastic bag so that dumped all over everything because the bag was top heavy. I was dining with someone who had shellfish allergies, and it was nice to see the staff so attentive to her issue (we're talking; they even checked the ingredients in the Bloody Mary mix to make sure there was nothing that would cause a reaction). I read the reviews and had high expectations, then after I arrived and began tasting our menu items, I remembered I was in Wisconsin. The tables around us clearly were just learning how to eat or enjoy sushi. When we plucked the fish from our rolls to sample freshness flavors, it was apparent that the fish required the the accompanying toppings and flavors in order to make the fish taste good. It's Central Wisconsin. We are nowhere near the ocean. I get that. The food reflects that. However for what it is, in Central Wisconsin, working to make a wonderful Japanese culinary experience, it's about as good as you're going to get. My Wausau friends notified me of this opportunity to get great sushi in Stevens Point like what we remembered in a now closed place in Wausau, so I had to try it out with them. I've tried several rolls with each of us getting a different roll each time - all have been excellent (Carnation Roll, Godzilla Roll, & Chicago Roll) . Ambiance looks like it is not feng shui, as it casually applies to interior decorating, but that is totally fine. Knowledgeable wait staff. Love coming here for the sushi. This is the best place in town that I have had sushi at. I ordered the Godzilla roll and shrimp tempura roll and both were delicious. While you're hear, also get the Japanese soda Ramune, they have the flavors of orange, strawberry, and original. On Saturday night 6 of us went at 730 and we did end up waiting for 15 minutes to be seated as the place was completely packed. We ordered plum wine which we all agreed was better than others; not super sweet and had a carmelized tongue. Also got coconut lemongrass nigori sake which after drinking the plumb wine was not very good. It came across as a Pina colada gone sour. We got miso soup which was yellow miso with tiny cubes of tofu and lots of leafs of seaweed. Next had the perfect seaweed salad with a great balance of toasted sesame oil and sweet vinegar. All 6 of us got different sushi rolls so we could share. One was able to get a sweet potato vegan roll. Only thing unexpected was on the spicy California roll there was the tiny fish eggs which one of us doesn't like. The waitress Sam did an excellent job of dealing with our group's attitude as well as our rowdiness and definitely earned her tip.
