Hidden gem for this area! Healthy portions served with fresh lime, bean sprouts and lettuce (but missing the basil). Most dishes are $15.45 or $16.45. No upcharge for beef vs chicken or pork. We shared a roll sampler - these skinny rolls had no deep fried grease residue and were favored by others in my group. For me these lacked some flavor and I would have preferred a lighter fish sauce dipping sauce to the hoisin peanut sauce. I thoroughly enjoyed my Hu Tiu Mi - the broth had a rich quality paired with a combination of yellow egg noodles and rice noodles - I liked not having to choose. And the quail eggs were an original tasty addition. Bun Ga Nuon Cha Gio or grilled chicken and egg rolls served over rice noodles was fully consumed - it's worth the extra dollar for 2 skinny egg rolls. The garnish of pickled carrots are a favorite but I miss pickled daikon slices that I'm used to getting at other restaurants. The stir fry beef with white rice was also enjoyed. This is a really good restaurant. The pho is great and so are many of the other dishes. I will say that I think you're better off getting takeout; the restaurant itself is very weird. I don't think it is the restaurant owners' fault or choice. This little place is nestled back in what appears to be an apartment complex, so it's an odd location, but I'm glad we found it. We stopped in for lunch and for 3 people we ordered the spring roll sampler, the chicken pho and the pad Thai. Everything came out piping hot and quickly and we enjoyed our food. Great and attentive service. When we went there was only one employee working and he was waiting on all the tables and was doing a great job. We started with the tofu spring rolls and it was delicious. I ordered the massaman curry soup. It's slightly confusing that there are two pho restaurants in the area with the name "Pho Dang." I don't know the history or connection between these two restaurants, so I can't and won't comment any further, though the parking in the back of this Pho Dang is easier to maneuver than in the other Pho Dang's parking lot. As expected of my Vietnamese restaurants, the pho here is good. Good, hot noodles on a cold February break make me happy. I got the #9 because it looked promising, but at this point, I am grateful that I get to even have Vietnamese cooking. On top of that, the food isn't bad either! The lady working here kind of scared me (as do most Vietnamese women who remind me of my aunts) but she took our orders and got us our food out fairly quickly. I wanted to speak in Vietnamese to her, but it usually happens that the Vietnamese people don't hear me speak in Vietnamese or they don't register it as such. I don't know which it is. The point is that I didn't get to communicate with her. Maybe next time I will. read more

Ordered a spicy stir fried beef bun bowl to go. Overall the food was tasty. I concur with other reviewers about the portion size. A bit on the small side for $9.95. The beef was cooked well and the noodles were fresh. The egg rolls were absolutely delicious. The sauce included was great and the meal would have been even better with more. The salad below the noodles was unfortunately disappointing. The menu said it came with cucumber and other vegetables. All there was underneath the noodles was plain iceberg lettuce. I don't think I'd try this dish again, but may try something different in the future. read more

Disappointed in our take-out experience tonight. Our order wasn't correct, despite it having been repeated back over the phone.

I was looking for some good asain food one night and stumbled upon Pho Dang. Walking in there were not many people on a Sunday night and a man greeted us and said to seat ourselves. I ordered the tofu spring rolls to start and my brother got the wonton soup. The spring rolls were very basic: filled with lettuce, rice noodles and tofu. The dipping sauce was very tasty. For my entree I got the vegetable paid thai. At first a chicken paid thai was brought out and I had to tell the waiter I had ordered vegetable. No big deal, happens a lot as a vegetarain. When the vegetable was brought out it looked delicious. It was your normal pad thai, noodles with egg, veggies and a sweet saue topped with peanuts. The prices are very reasonable and the food came out very fast. Not my favorite asain spot but I would go again. read more

Hubby and I were out and about and on the prowl for a good warm Pho or curry on Sunday. It was rainy and uncomfortably cool. Saw Pho Dang on Park Street in Essex Jct. VT. Stopped and we are very glad we did. Bright but austere dining room. Lots of napkins, utensils, sauces on the table Appeared very tidy and neat. Our server was terrific, very nice. Brought us ice water quickly We ordered an appetizer of their Roll Sampler. The order came quickly and it consisted of two rolls of three types (shrimp, tiger & egg)of their rolls. Good! Hubby ordered Massaman type Soup with chicken which was laden with potato, carrot, onion, chicken and served with in a wonderfully flavorful soup/ sauce along with a large side Jasmine rice. It was delightful! I ordered a Veggie Pho. A huge bowl of sliced carrot, red pepper, mushrooms, celery, broccoli, fried tofu, green onion in a huge bowl with a delicious broth and rice noodles. I opted out of the bean sprouts but the Thai basil was a terrific addition. Service was quite prompt, the restaurant was quite busy and numerous take out orders were also picked up during our visit. Very inexpensive check for all we had which also included extra canned soft drinks. We WILL bring back. A very positive experience. read more

This family run business is top notch. The ambiance is warm and comfortable (delightfully outfitted and clean bathrooms are a surprise bonus). Son Michael Dang is a congenial, accommodating host and server. Food is served promptly, vegetables are fresh and colorful, even in December in Vermont. The menu is long, and varied. Absolutely delicious. You have another pleasant surprise when the bill comes, as you are satisfied and full as can be, and had forgotten how reasonable the prices are. Pho Dang is a wonderful food experience! I have eaten Vietnamese food a couple of different places in the U.S. but the one I keep coming back to is the Pho Dang in Essex Junction. My wife and I have a meal at Pho Dang at LEAST once a week. The food and food quality are incredible, and the server is a warm, pleasant, funny lady who always knows our order! We always order the same dishes, because once you find your favorite go-to dish - its hard to go without! The prices at Pho are wonderfully reasonable, and a great place to go for a low-key, calm atmosphere date night with no frills, and its right down in town - so if you are like me, it is close enough to walk to! I don't think this place is as good as it once was. The lady who was covering the tables seemed like she was the owner and would rather be anywhere except there. I didn't have the pho, so I can't comment on whether or not it has changed. I had the pad Thai and my buddy had a beef bun dish. We split a banh xeo, 'crispy' pork and shrimp crepe. I put crispy in quotes because it was not. I was more like a dry omelet with some flavorless pork shrimp and raw bean sprouts thrown in before folding it in half. The sweet sauce was basically sugar water with a tiny amount of fish sauce. The shredded carrot and cucumber were supposed to be pickled, but just tasted like they were raw. My buddy's bun looked tasty but had very few toppings and probably less than 2 ounces of meat. It came with the same sugar water which was useless as a sauce. He said that if it had more meat to go with all of the noodles that it would have been OK. My chicken pad Thai was very disappointing. It was a pile of noodles with a tiny amount of chicken and egg coated with a sweet red sauce and a few ground peanuts. It lacked any spice even though I asked for it spicy. The only accompaniment were a tiny wedge of lime, a few shreds of carrot and a few bean sprouts. I've had better from the box from the grocery store. Not sure if I will go back. If I do, I will stick to the pho. There are better places in Burlington to pend my lunch money. read more

I have to agree with other comments. The bowls are big but very empty. You would expect at least a bit more veggies or noodles. It seems the pho was very sparse to say the least. I would not recommend this place to eat on a cold winter day (craving soup). I guess there are limited alternatives otherwise. I ordered #5 and Pho was bland, like warm, and no rare pieces of meat as advertised and half piece of meatball (where did the other piece go?) As for onions and scallions, there were none except for one stem- uncut scallion and 4 tiny slices/pieces of onion. Limited parking if it where busy. Very small place, service was average. I heard some one had ordered 20 minutes ago and the owner forgot to place their order (poor guy). read more

I have driven by this restaurant countless times and thought to myself that we should try it. We finally did and were disappointed. We ordered a few different dishes for take out and the only thing that was good (not great) were the dumplings that appeared to be frozen/commercially made. We specifically ordered one dish at a spicy level and it was very bland. Nothing we ordered stood out. I make better Massaman curry myself. Sadly, we will not visit again. read more

As the weather outside becomes brisk and chilly, I occasionally head inside here to grab a large #6 noodle soup. On a cold day, this delicate, flavorful pho hits the spot (especially with a bit of sriracha)! The price point is just right, and the service is very quick. Over the last couple years, I have noticed the portions have gotten a bit smaller. It's nothing too drastic, but the once filled-to-the-brim soup bowls are filled maybe 3/4 of the way, there's less bean sprouts, and the slices of lime are the cut to the size of a drink garnish. The flavor and overall quality of the food is still pretty good, so I'll continue to make Pho Dang one of my regular casual dining spots. read more

You cannot go wrong! It's all delicious!! Fresh veggies, fresh shrimp, great quality beef and chicken. All cooked and seasoned to perfection. My favorite is their fried chicken wings. They're kinda similar to salt and pepper preparation that you often find in Chinese cuisine. In any case they're so crispy and different than wings you find everywhere else. Don't skip them! We decided to give the new location a try last night before a movie to see how it compared to our beloved Pho Dang in Winooski. They made a few changes to the inside of the place that once housed The Drunken Noodle. Unfortunately, it really feels like I'm in my grandmother's house with it's soft yellow walls and frilly baby blue sheer curtains. I think a better color scheme would have been brilliant reds and black but as the Winooski location leaves much to be desire, it is really a step up in terms of looks. The menu mirrored that of the one in Winooski so we got our old favorites, mine #21 (a bun dish) and my husband #23. The biggest change that I saw was that the food was much slower than at the other location. It was about 30 minutes between ordering and receiving our food, which was surprising because the Winooski location is quite fast. But I will attribute that to being a new restaurant and having new staff. My meal was very similar to the other location, with the exception of less veggies on top (more cilantro, please!) and a slightly sweeter sauce. My husband enjoyed his but did state that it was spicier than he'd had previously. Price-wise, you really can't go wrong! Two meals for $18.95! Nowhere else can we go out to dinner and have it be under $20 for the two of us! Inconceivable! The hostess / waitress was really sweet and did a nice job of helping and checking on us throughout our meal. True to the Pho Dang in Winooski, NO ALCOHOL is served here but I was informed that you could bring your own bottle of wine, much like at Tiny Thai. In sum, we are HUGE fans of Pho Dang at both locations and I have no doubt that it will grow and thrive in it's additional location. read more

Another place checked off my list! After a oil change and finally getting my winter tires on, I stopped by here for lunch. The woman working the front was really nice and we talked for a bit about a variety of subjects, it's nice actually going into a place and having a actual conversation! The place was pretty quiet, just two parties. The food was done fast. I got #16 and an ice coffee with sweetened condensed milk. I loved everything about my food, it was fresh, tasted good and made me want to try more there! I have never had Vietnamese food before so I have nothing to compare it to. I originally came here because it was close to my house and my favorite Vietnamese restaurant had closed, but I'm so glad I tried it! I am obsessed with #25, the tofu vermicelli noddles. The portion is huge and every last drop is delicious. I think I could eat it every day. It's one of the few vegetarian meals there, but so worth it. The service definitely depends on who's working the counter that night and is the most off-putting part of the experience. I've had very polite and helpful people, and some that were not so great or concentrated. I don't really care though, because the food always comes out quick and delicious. read more

#5 and the one with egg rolls and pork on top of vermicelli were all amazing. The pho (#5) is one of the best I've had--the broth is very flavorful and the noodles are very well made. I travel from NYC every week and usually satiate my Vietnamese food cravings back in NYC Chinatown. Now that I've found Pho Dang, I'm going to just come here for all my Vietnamese food desires. The food and service is incredible. No matter what you order and how many people are waiting for their orders you don't have to wait more than 10 minutes. If that wouldn't be enough, the staff actually cares about you and your diet, e.g. I'm vegan and always when I'm there I order dishes with tofu instead of meat and once I wanted to order something that I've never ordered before and the waiter told me that it's based on the beef broth, he didn't have to tell me because it was written down.
