Really enjoyed my experience at Chingu! The brussel sprouts, which came in a sweet savory sauce. They were cooked very nicely and had great texture and flavor. The tofu was amazing, it had a great light breadcrumb like texture, and was soft and delicious. I well say the dish tasted amazing but a dipping sauce would've really elevated the dish to the next level. The chicken wings were great as well, they had a sweet glaze on the outside with a light crunch to the skin. Perfectly cooked! The drinks were a bit hit and miss but I enjoyed the Take Two and the had a nice variety of foreign beers and some good local beers. We enjoyed HH kimchi fries, HH sliders, LA Galbi, Korean Fried Chicken, and pork belly--all winners. We also enjoyed soju in white grape, grapefruit, strawberry, and plum. What a local gem lost. I cannot say too many glowing things about this legend of Westport gone but never forgotten. If you want to continue support please check out Chingu coffee shop (located in the shared West Plaza space with Bay Boys) or follow sura eats. Anyways, onto the delicious food and top notch experiences I've had at Chingu over the past few years as well as, the standout final service I was lucky enough to experience last night. I have attended a few pop-ups at Chingu and community events like these really made this Westport restaurant stand out and shine. One that sticks out from 2025 is when they graciously allowed Lisa Nguyen take over the menu and ramen-i-fy it. This was not for the faint of heart concerning spice...so, my mom suffered. But, if you were willing to test your spice tolerance this was a fantastic pop-up. We especially loved the ramen spring rolls and the spice dusted pop corn chicken. On the closing night I went with three small plates and one drink. All made such a lasting impression that I'm sad reminiscing on the retired flavors but my taste buds are still tingling. The mandu, the fried dumplings, were delicious with succulent savory filling with soy and garlic. The bugolgi cheesesteak sliders were huge! So filling that I could barely finish one but, the decadent meat was spilling out of the sides and the rich sauce was creamy and oh so good, all tucked between buttery buns. Two of these bad boys plus a pile of spiced fries were heaven! Last but not least was the Korean fried chicken wings. These were the "piece de resistance" or whatever they say...the jumbo wings were crispy, fried to golden brown perfection coated in golden nectar of the gods- or Gochujang garlic sauce...whichever you prefer. The sweet sticky savory flavor of these wings were S-tier and hopefully they will be resurrected soon at a different restaurant location because I could eat these wings more often than I should. Chingu has had its funeral but, that doesn't mean the flavors won't live on in people's memories and hopefully, it will have its rebirth into something fresh and new, on another plate in another place sometime soon. Wow! Love this place. Friday night at 5:15, we had a reservation but didn't need one at that time. By the time we left it was filling up. This was also happy hour and they have fantastic food choices on the happy hour menu, including their AMAZING chicken wings! Biggest wings Ive ever seen and delicious. We also loved the fried tofu and kimchi fries. Entrees were Bibimpap and Japchae with shaved ribeye. Both were good but the Japchae my favorite. I've now been lucky enough to visit Chingu for happy hour, and for lunch and can solidly say that this place is five star material. For happy hour you'll be treated to some really inventive and delicious cocktails, and paired with savory korean bites, there really isn't anything to complain about - except for maybe not coming here sooner. Chingu recently started offering lunch and while it's a more limited menu, I was really delighted by the noodle stir fry I had. It was a cold day and this dish was piping hot, and chock full of great flavor. It was also a healthy enough size that I was able to take about half of it home and get a second lunch out of it. I still haven't been able to try the fried chicken here which looks insane, so dinner here will be my next endeavor. This place should be on everyone's radar in KC. The flavor profile is eccentric and bold, the Char on the ribs bring out the deep profiles of soy, garlic, and ginger. TBH me and my family make out teriyaki sauce and it has similarities but (we are Hawaiian). If you want bold, unique, and indescribably different tastes from a normal Korean restaurant I think you'll find that here. While the same in many aspects I feel like the unique and what seems to be artistically thought out recipes you can distinctively tell CHINGU beats their own drum!! I'd say this place is appropriate for a fun, more than casual, but satisfyingly enjoyable Korean restaurant. (Alittle on the fine dining compared to other Korean restaurants). Downside: The kimchi- While surprisingly flavorful it stands out of not my favorite or near best tasting Kimchi I've had....Im a huge advocate for good kimchi but this one I would not refer to someone and expect them to like it. I was super excited to try this place since I've heard that it is very busy usually but I came in during their lunch hour today and it was pretty empty - I was quite surprised. Now when I try a new spot, I make it a mission to order at least three things off the menu so that I give this place a fair rating. I did stop by with a friend so it also helped with all the food we were getting. Our serve was pretty nice and when I was ordering he kinda made a joke and said "wow that's a lot of food for just two people" side eye lol.. but that's okay! I care more about the food. So let's jump in. The bibimbap was brought out first and was served with a side of tofu sauce. I'm a big carnivore person but recently have been trying to venture out and try meatless things so it made sense to me to order this. The base was a heaping amount of white rice, has veggies, tofu and the sunny side up egg. The sauce itself tasted like a very sweet ketchup. With all the veggies, I felt like I needed even more sauce. If you are a big fan of bibimbap, this is pretty good. But, to be honest, I probably won't come here to order this again. I'm glad I tried it but it didn't really stick out to me. I ordered the Stir Fry bowl with noodles, spicy pork and their Gochujang sauce - and this might been the tastiest thing I had here. I'm not a big spicy person and the sauce was not overly spicy - it just had enough of a kick to amplify the flavor. I've only tried their lunch menu and have heard better things about their dinner menu, so this review is based on just lunch. Fried cauliflower and rice cakes (tteokbokki): amazing. 10/10 would get again. Would totally get again and has enough of a portion size to be a meal (if you're not sharing). I prefer fried tteokbokki to regularly prepared tteokbokki. Popcorn chicken hoagie: 4/10 enjoyment. I dislike wasting food but couldn't bring myself to finish this. The cucumbers would've been better pickled. The popcorn chicken breading and chicken itself were kind of sad and not flavorful. I couldn't just pick up this sandwich without making a mess because the popcorn chicken pieces just kept falling out. Nothing about this hoagie felt like it really went together flavor-wise which was a surprise because it all sounded like it'd be great together. Fries were good, though. Chingu is a great, new restaurant located in Westport. The Bossam was amazing as it was my first time trying it but I would definitely go back just for that - its a must get!! We also got the Korean Fried chicken - half soy-citrus and the other half gochujang. We thought that the chicken was "okay" as the chicken itself was cooked very well (crispy and juicy) but we had wished the soy-garlic was more of a "glazy" texture to give more taste and that the gochujang would be more spicy as it resembled almost a sweet chili flavor. Lastly, we got the Jjang Tteoboki which was "okay" and we just wished that the black bean sauce would have coated the rice caked more as we felt that everything had a good amount of sauce but the tteoboki itself wasn't soaking up the sauce as much as we would hope. Overall, definitely would recommend the Bossam and the restaurant in general. Try to make a reservation when you go as it can get really busy over the weekend! read more

It's a flavor bomb and well worth a visit, especially if you like Korean food and are feeling a little adventurous. They have a nice happy hour, great drink menu, and shareable-size portions so you can try multiple things. We ordered the Dduk Galbi Sliders w/ Fries (delicious soy marinated burgers with a gochujang ketchup) and Gamja Korokke (absolutely delicious fried potato and cheese balls) from the happy hour menu, and the Pajeon (amazing savory herb pancakes with sauce) and Bibimbap (rice, veggie, and egg bowl) from the regular menu. The table also received white rice, Kimchi, pickled onions, and black beans with our choices. There are so many incredible places to eat in Westport, it has taken us a while to get to Chingu but we are so glad we went! The place is very bright, clean, and has a fun, friendly vibe. We made it in at the end of happy hour so tried several items. It was such a diverse collection of flavors and textures--we had a lot of fun sampling some of their most popular items. Delicious Korean food and such a nice vibe! First off, I just wanted to give a shoutout to Nikki--she is the best! We just got off the plane so we were super hungry and ended up wanting to try everything! Right off, Nikki recommended the Quirk Seltzer in Cherry Blossom flavor--LOVED IT. Not too sweet, not too alcohol-y. As far as the food...it came out fast! the Korean Fried Chicken was good and perfectly crispy! We liked the gochujang-garlic more than soy-citrus because we just weren't used to the sour but we still devoured them. Super impressed with the Kimchi Soondubu Jjigae (+ you get a bowl of rice with it). It had such a great balance of flavor and it wasn't as spicy as the ones we've had before. Tucked away on a side street is a burst of Korean flavors! Spent a date night at Chingu after my wife tried it with friends. If I am being honest, I tried her cold leftovers in bed when she came home and was impressed by the taste! I could only imagine how the food would taste fresh and I was on the money. Came here and went all out. We started with some amazing drinks, I had the charmer. Then we moved on to the veggie pancakes that had both a crunch and soft texture. I liked that the pancake was more veggie than batter. Overall, this was my wife's fav dish. The also bring out little sides like Kimchi and bean sprouts which weee a nice palette cleanser for the main entrees. But it ended being a great place for our datenight. We ordered a few dishes to share, thinking 1 or 2 wouldn't be enough. But boy, we were wrong! If you've dined at Koreatown in New York or LA, this food is equally as good, if not better. When you walk into Chingu, you feel the fun and upbeat vibe. Cool decor, great music and engaging servers. When it's time for the food, it was nicely paced and piping hot. We had just right amount of time to savor each dish before it was time for the next to arrive. Here's what we ordered. It was all amazing. Pajeon - a Korean scallion pancake. Mandu Bokkeum - handmade dumplings, which I just loved! Kimchi Jjigae - is a rich, spicy stew, served bubbling hot, chock full of pork belly and tofu. We learned after finishing it, it should have been served with rice. Korean Fried Chichen - they serve the full wing, like at the Peanut. There is a choice of two toppings, soy-citrus or gochujang pickled radish. We tried the soy-citrus and I bet I would have preferred the other. Visiting here from California I didn't have too much of high expectations coming from Missouri but overall I can say I was impressed. Being here on vacation I want to make sure I get the best food recommended. So a diet does not exist. Getting our small side dishes, they were really little. The kimchi was quite sour and there weren't many options but nothing bad. The tteokbokki was different coming in a bowl instead of the normal plate portions work big, but it fed two people. The most important with the Galbi is that it was marinated well he just had a lot of fatty meat around the bone than usual. The drinks were super cute named after some K-pop songs.
