We arrived around 2:30pm and the bar was hopping so we sat in the restaurant so we could chat. Our waitress arrived and took our drink order; she was welcoming, friendly and gave me great insights on the Butler area. I wasn't able to get food due to a drunk customer starting a confrontation with me (a minor) after I was instructed by an employee to sit at the bar for one phone call. After making my phone call quickly, the drunk man then started a conversation with me about my age what my purpose was in the bar, after I answer his question he got aggressive with me and pressed me into the back of the store. After I left the encounter I wanted to use the restroom I walked over and knocked on the door. The man then proceeded to get so close to my face I could smell the Coors light he was drinking moments before, after pressing me in the bathroom I walked out stating he was actively trying to start an issue with a minor and not one server or a customer turned their head to look or help. It was a really quaint, very comfortable friendly restaurant. No reservations and we were seated right away. The hostess was also our server, took our drink order while we looked over the menu. We ordered chicken Parmesan that came with side of speghetti and a house salad ordered with blue cheese dressing, and an order of garlic bread.The Fettuccine Alfredo with a cup of wedding soup. Also with our dinner came a basket of fresh bread and butter. We had our drinks within 2 minutes and dinner within 10 minutes. The owner even came by to say hello and offered us any more sauce or Alfredo noodles. It was like meeting an old friend. The food did not disappoint. I highly recommend and will be coming back to try the eggplant Parmesan. I have to say their meatballs looked great too. My 2nd experience we were met with a rushed women talking us into sitting in the bar .. same waitress...very busy ..rushing around so fast you couldn't barely ask for anything without her running away mid sentence..no knives ! We ate our sub par meal with very little sauce again On ravioli that was HARD ! And not good ! Very upsetting and unacceptable to eat a meal with no knives ?? I asked why and was told the new dishwasher dropped the knives ??? I have called the manager before and he does nothing but make excuses and told me to let him know when I'd be in next he's gonna buy me a drink ? Very unprofessional place. Went here for a family birthday party there was about 15 of us and let me tell you everything came out in such a timely manner. Everything was great. I started out with greens and beans and a mozzarella wheel. It was delicious and came out quick! For my entree I got the homemade cheese ravioli! It was excellent. My wife and I took two of our kids 17 and 21 here for dinner before a movie. The place wasn't packed but only two waitresses and a hostess who did nothing to help them. It became clear pretty quickly that we were in for a wait. Both waitresses completely ignored us for at least ten minutes then a guy came out from the kitchen to take our drink orders. Hallelujah we thought , finally some service! Another wait before the drinks then ponytail guy from the kitchen returned with the drinks and asks... did you guys want bread or are you ok? Ummmm YES we want bread why is that even a question?? Wait for the bread... ponytail guy brings bread and takes our order. Ok great things are moving now as the waitresses continue to pretend we don't exist ,a couple with a small child gets seated next to us. My wife and I chat with the children about patience (mostly them talking me down from the ledge I'm teetering on as I become hangry) Ahhhh as we finish our store bought bag tasting bread that was presented as FRESH bread our waitress finally sees fit to acknowledge our existence! Apologies for the wait so sorry busy busy busy blah blah blah . The couple with the small child has now not only been served drinks and bread but their food has arrived ...So after another lengthy wait for our food we are ready to tuck in. Now my wife and I have been craving us some New York style pizza for months and as have called ahead and been assured that it is available here and the advertised HOMEMADE, AUTHENTIC etc we are ready to grub. What we get is a thin crust frozen pizza that tastes like it's straight from the frozen section of ALDI. Not even a decent frozen pizza mind you.Our kids got sandwiches, they looked ok but they weren't raved about. We got a couple orders of fries which were soggy , fried zucchini was pretty good , all 7 or 8 small pickle chip type slices of it. The bill was not worth what we got at all and I highly doubt we will ever return. All that being said my thanks to the pony tail guy from the kitchen who waited on us and did a lot of other running around there . Dear owners , you have obviously been short staffed for a long time and there's got to be a reason for this. Other businesses when they're short staffed the owners get out there and help. Maybe you don't treat your workers well I really don't know. Now to all you people leaving these reviews saying how good this place is , maybe butlers water kills taste buds , brain cells or both . We are not from butler and were in the area planning out our wedding and someone suggested to give this restaurant a try for dinner and possible rehearsal dinner location. The staff was excellent and the owner Nick was awesome to work with. Such a quaint, good quality restaurant. They did an outstanding job serving my rehearsal dinner for our wedding (about 32 people) ALL the food was excellent, the staff was attentive, and setting us up in a "U" table made the evening perfect. I was rather disappointed with our dinner at Mamma Rosa's after hearing positive reviews from locals. Our server Mylana was excellent and the restaurant is fortunate to have her. Unfortunately the food did not live up to the hype. The salad was white lettuce and the bread brought to the table was plain. No italian spices, olive oil, just some butter. So me and my guest were willing to put that aside im anticipation of enjoying the much heralded sauce sold in local grocers. Unfortunately the sauce was as bland as the rest of our food. The ingredients for the sauce called for basil and garlic however neither were able to be detected. We could taste the onion and that was all besides the tomato puree. One of several family-owned, family-style, Southern Italian dining restaurants in Butler, this one offers one of the very best red pasta sauces I have ever tried anywhere (including many well-known NYC-area institutions). For a long time, when we lived just down the road from this place, we used to buy the sauce by the gallon direct from the restaurant. Now you can conveniently buy it in quart jars (a veritable bargain at $4-5) at select grocers around the Pittsburgh area. We never make a trip back to Western PA without stocking up a good supply. In addition to the pasta sauce, they also offer a retail version of their marinara sauce, pizza sauce, and -- the most recent addition -- a salsa (which I have not yet tried). For a long time, Mama Rosa's was a bar that also happened to serve tasty Italian food. Several years back, they created a separate dining room that makes it a lot more amenable to diners. While the atmosphere is simple and the menu rather predictable, there are several items here that I can strongly recommend. The handmade pastas -- especially the lasagna, ravioli, and manicotti -- are all top notch. While these can be topped with a meat sauce, these are all meat free pastas so vegetarian-friendly. The lasagna literally melts in your mouth and may be one of the best simple lasagnas I've ever eaten. The chicken romano is also very good, as are seasonal items like pumpkin tortellini with browned butter (yum). And pizzas are hand-tossed to order, made with homemade pizza sauce, and are quite good. The chicken parmigiana hoagie is amongst the best versions of this sandwich available anywhere, with thin layers of pounded, batter fried chicken. What proves inconsistent is the quality of the bread, which on occasions was a bit dry. Be sure to ask for an extra side of red sauce for dipping, just in case ;-) And don't forget to save some room for homemade pies for dessert, or one of their tasty apple dumplings a la mode. This place is a tad bit off the beaten path, located behind the community college in a semi-suburban residential neighborhood. But it is been there for over 50 years and is well worth a visit if live in the area or are simply passing through. read more

They typically come with a side (unless pasta is already included) as well as a soup or salad. They also use bread works Italian bread which is fresh and tasty. Mama Rosas used fresh produce when available (Schramm's Market/Ambrose Farms), and portions are generous. It is important to keep in mind that everything is made to order, plan accordingly! There is a quaint, u shaped full bar, option for takeout, and gift certificates are available. They also have bar specials M-T like $1.25 capicolla and cheese sandwiches on Thursdays. My only minor gripe was trying to find the place. Location is tucked away in a residential neighborhood. Also, the entrance was hard to find as all other doors that looked the same were locked. However, that was where the griping ended. The inside is, as another poster mentioned, a small sized pub with seating. Admittedly I felt a bit awkward upon entering as there were locals that all knew each other. But the service was friendly and the food (I had linguini with meat sauce) was home made and delicious. My salad was good too. The price was very reasonable given how satisfactory the meal was. This place should probably get 5 stars and maybe I'm being a bit picky here. I was out with a friend and we asked that they provided separate billing, so my bill I paid for $20, but my cc was charged $36, which included my friend's meal. I call the restaurant and the hostess told me to call their office and ask for Nick, the owner. I called and was put to voice mail. I called again, same result. I called again and Nick answered, but didn't want to talk. I called again and left another message and got his cell phone. I called his cell phone, no answer and left a message again.
