    Dining by the fishes

We had our first dinner on the island here. The shrimp Alfredo was smothered in peppers and onions, very salty and lacked flavor beyond the salt. Disappointing considering how big and juicy the shrimp were, ruined the whole dish. Wings that my son had looked good and the piña coladas lacked flavor as well. The ice was just watering it all down. Service lacked as well. Just an overall miss in my book.

We happened upon this place after a fantastic day at Flamenco Beach. We just wanted to pass the time before boarding the ferry back to our hotel. I'm SO happy we went! Ask to sit near the water. Especially at night. They allow you to feed the scraps to the local fish. Drinks are STRONG and fresh. The restaurant is clean, bathrooms are exceptionally well maintained. Best part? Stay after dark. Feed the huge fish and stingrays. They even light up the restaurant I the evening so you can take pictures of your experiences with the local sea life. Umm..and cheesecake! Thank me later! Always tip your server. They work HARD!

We stayed in culebra at mamacitas guest house right above the restaurant and bar. They do not take reservations and the restaurant gets quite crowded in the evenings as it is one of the top recommended eateries in the town. My party of 6 came in around 7 and we waited about 40 minutes for a table. They have a cute bar that we were able to drink and wait at. The restaurant is right next to the canal, with pretty light fixtures and a great vibe. Our server was great as well! It took over an hour for our food to come out. But the setting and weather were so great our wait time was a breeze. I got the salmon filet, for $30 I found the fish to be quite dry. As was our mahi filet. We enjoyed the rice and beans. Our server was personable and made sure to check on us regularly. There are big fish in the canal that they encourage you to feed your leftovers to. It was fun to watch them in the water. The bar seems to get a bit rowdy the later it gets. Overall I enjoyed dinner at mamacitas and I recommend them!

Our tour driver recommended this place and we were not disappointed!! This place was so nice and clean! Our server Jasmine was very friendly and helpful with the menu. All servers speak both English and Spanish :) We ordered coconut shrimp, churrasco, red snapper, fresh mahi, and seafood mix. Lots of drinks and delicious food!!! Check them out!!

Love the whole vibe here! Came on a Saturday night before the it got packed! Friendly staff and great service! Love how the scenery is open with boats and fish, great music! Food was perfect, rib eye was juicy and linguine was creamy. Drinks were perfect and my whole family enjoyed our late dinner! Definitely highly recommend and will return when visiting Culebra.

On a recent 3-day tour of the Spanish Virgin Islands we anchored offshore of Culebra. On the recommendation of a fellow sailor familiar with the area, we had our group from two catamarans dinghy the crews up the canal to dine at Mamacitas. So glad we did! It's a fun place, and a bit of an adventure to get there. Service was good, even for our large party. We started with a margarita and the "Mamacitas Drink" (rum, juices, guava), both were very good. The table shared several appetizers, including coconut shrimp, grouper bites and croquets jamon (fried ham/cheese balls). The grouper bites and the croquets jamon were so good, we ordered a second round of each of those... deelish! For entrees, the table ordered many different things, the ones we sampled were the red snapper filet, the mahi mahi filet, and the skirt steak. Sides included grilled veggies, fried yucca chips, plantains and salads. All the food was good, special tip of the cap to the red snapper filet, it was the best of the bunch. It was a good dinner, enjoyed by all. The crews were happy that the recommendation turned out to be legit. Really cool thing at night, they turn the dock lights on and a group of huge tarpon fish congregate there and diners toss them food scraps. Probably not the best diet for the fish, but fun to watch! LOL Recommend Mamacitas in Culebra, good food!

Great service, great view good food! Loved it! The grouper bites and the cockerels are spot on.

The food here was delicious. There aren't many options in the island, but this is fortunately very worth it. The Staff is amazing and very nice, the portions are abundant, and the food and drinks are great. We also stayed in their Guest house had a good time!

I'll keep it short & simple. Rude staff, horrible service, crappy food, expensive and outside with no fans. Tourist trap.

The owner apparently feeds a good number of street cats and we loved the additional company. Our waitress (Heather maybe?) was incredible, giving us menu suggestions as well as tips for our visit to Culebritas we had planned for the next day. She was super friendly and we enjoyed chatting with her and learning a little of the history of the restaurant. The food was mostly amazing- we loved the escargot, it was a different preparation than I've had before with a sort of buttery herby sauce. Also loved the sides, the beans and rice were top notch and the mixed mash was very fun and interesting though a little dry without sauce- delicious with some sauce from other dishes. I heard very good things about the chicken and shrimp; unfortunately one star off as my husband and I bought got the Mahi-mahi and it was rather chewy and tough. The flavor was there but didn't really enjoy the texture. I would 100% go back and get the shrimp though!

We started with a bottle of wine similar to a Chardonnay. But let's talk food. I ordered the escargot. If you know anything about me it's that I absolutely love escargot. I will order them any where I can. I have tried them everywhere from NY to Ca and even Spain and Italy. Susies hands down wins in this category. The butter garlic combination is amazingly delicious. And they don't skimp on the escargot. There's plenty of them unlike other places that count them. The service at Susie's? As friendly and as personable as you want. Every one is happy and pleasant but then again you live on the best island that has the #3 best beach (Flamenco). I had the machi machi. Excellent choice! Plus the rice and beans which I grew up on, however they did not make them with sofrito which is really the secret ingredient to making them. But still delicious nonetheless. Over all, I'll continue to visit Susies each day every time I'm here. Since it was my birthday we ordered the Carmel cheese cake to go. Because some things need to be eaten in private. Shhh....

We shared the cod fritters to start.5 thin & crispy fried flat fritters in an order came with a side of shredded crab mixed with olives and red peppers (that would have been a great dip on its own). Ask for extra lime on the side. For dinner we had the churasco -- perfectly cooked to order skirt steak with rice (comes mixed with habichuelas/red beans and bits of ham) and a whole fried snapper which was huge and delicious. For dessert we shared the individual ramekin of key lime "pie" which was a layer of graham crust top with key lime pudding. Slightly tart filling and a sweet topping. Overall a very good experience and would highly recommend.

I swear the last time we ate at Seabourne must have been 10-12 years ago. Waiting for so long to return was well worth it. What a fabulous meal! We are mostly vegetarian/pescatarian so we ordered the tuna and shrimp dishes. We also had the Jibaro nachos. All three dishes were beyond our expectations. How you get that much flavor in nachos is impressive. For the shrimp, we were expecting, in usual Puertorican style, a couple of lettuce leaves as a side. It was a heaping arugula salad with six spicy shrimp on top! Such a nice treat on this island where true greens are hard to come by. The tuna was served with a mango salsa and was also excellent. Now let's turn to the wine list. On this island, its Tempranillo, Malbec or Rioja (gets boring fast!) or crappy California swill. Azul has a very nice selection of wines by the bottle which include a lovely Spanish wine from Priorat. Wines from Priorat are some of my favorite - inky, dark and smoky. We enjoyed the heck out of the Gine Gine and at only $25, it was an amazing bargain. The atmosphere was tropical romantic and service was perfect.
