Since they had no live lobsters to boil, I ordered what looked like a couple of shrimp hot pockets. After I sat down to eat my hot pockets, I noticed this rooster, strutting around, acting like he owned the place. I asked him what his name was and he replied, "COCK A DOODLE DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" Eat here!!! The mofongo, drinks, and food are delicious, and the staff is very friendly!!! It's one of those local restaurants you are lucky to find. The mofongo is made fresh to order, which takes about 30-45 minutes, so you may want to order appetizers while you wait. Our appetizers were tostones and mojitos, which were both perfect. Appears to be a very casual joint where probably the locals go but its actually one of those hidden gems of a place! The people are very friendly but do not all know much English. One of the customers was kind enough to help us out. PASTILLOS: which were out of this world! They are large fried turnovers stuffed with meat (can be minced beef- the best ever!!, shrimp, conch, chicken or spinach) TOSTADOS: flattened non sweet plantains GRILLED KINGFISH PLATTER: this had 2 huge cross sections of kingfish with garlic sauce and sauteed peppers. Enormous portion for its price COCONUT MOJITO: way too sweet for a mojito. We tried CONCH turnovers for the first time, which were surprisingly fresh. The seafood at Racar Sea Restaurant definitely lived up to the expectations set in its name. I ordered two arepas, one with pulpo (octopus) and the other with bacalao (cod). Both were extremely fresh, nicely seasoned, and not at all salty. The arepas themselves were perfectly fried, crispy and light. The side dishes were just as great and so inexpensive ($1 for a coconut arepa, $1.50 for 4 maduros) that I ordered multiple rounds. Racar stood out with all of its fried dishes; none of them were overly greasy or oily like at many other places, and I didn't feel sluggish or bloated after eating here. read more

Stopped here waiting on a kayak tour. It was one of the only places open in the area around 5pm on a Wednesday. Both the kingfish and red snapper in butter sauce were amazing. The portions were generous and the rice a beans were one of the best we tried during our stay in PR. read more

I'm pretty sure the girl ripped us off because we are tourists because the other mixed drinks on the menu had prices ranging from $3.50 for a small to $6.75 for a big size. The best chapin pastelillos , I don't like fish but I love their chapin empanadas. I have visited many other establishments across the island and nobody makes them as good. If you are not local and want to take some back home like me , you can ask them to sell you some uncooked ones and freeze them ( also put them in a freezer bag) and travel with them. From the hotel, I walked the employee only driveway for about three blocks and came to the marina. Racer is the most reasonable and local feel restaurant in the walking area. The menu has both Spanish and English, and the eaters are all friendly willing to help you deciding on the order. I recently had the opportunity to stay at El Conquistidor (which is very close by, walking distance actually). If you want some out of this world service and fantastic seating, A/C, all of that stuff. Pass this place up. If you are looking for a place that feels like this may be where the locals come to catch up and watch the waves, that pop a squat...you could stay here all day. The people are very friendly and the food is quite good. I had the mofongo stuffed with seafood and it was absolutely yummy. The octopus was soft and NOT chewy. I am pretty sure this was a first for me. They make their own hotsauces that are fantastic and the best part is they sell them by the bottle so you can take some back to the states with you (or wherever you may hail from). The restaurant is located in a parking lot/park among quite a few other restaurants. These business sprouted up because this is where a lot of the non motorized water tours start in Fajardo. Pop in. They have excellent empanadas and ice ice ice cold beer. read more

We came to Fajardo specifically looking for fresh seafood and had heard wonderful things from locals and visitors alike about Racar. It certainly lived up to its reputation! Delicious regional fare, served with the loving touch of a family restaurant. Clear view of the ocean right across the street. Workers were friendly, easygoing and attentive. The owner even noticed my mosquito bites and offered a bottle of Off for me to use. The food was quick to arrive and so fragrant my mouth started watering before it hit the table. The red snapper was perfectly tender and melted in my mouth. Very fresh fish. The arepas de coco came hot and made a delicious complement to the meal. We ate watching the moon rise over the water. If you're looking for quality food without the bells, whistles, and hefty price tag of fine dining, our meal at Racas exceeded even those of more expensive foreign/American-owned restaurants we've visited on our trip so far. A little dive near the bay where the Bio Bay tours happen. Cheap beer, good food. We had a fried red snapper, with tostones, and garlic shrimp with tostones. Both came with some lettuce, onion and tomato as well so that was nice. I really liked my shrimp and my friend really liked his snapper. My favorite though was their tostones - they were the best ones I had our whole trip. Nice and thin and crispy. So good. We sat out on the patio for a while and had a beer. The thing I didn't care for about this place isn't really its fault. It's right next to the bay, as I said, but it's also the stinkiest part of the bay. You do get used to it, but beware of it at first. I'd go again, especially for a nice cold beer and some tostones. read more

When we arrived the lead waiter allowed us to combine a table to accommodate our group but the waitress assigned didn't seem too happy about this. When we advised we wanted our tickets split, she said she could only accommodate a certain number of tickets as it would be easier for her. The restaurant was practically empty, needless to say, the restaurant lost our business. The area is a touristy area so you would assume tickets such as this wouldn't be so difficult. The waitress began to be rude and assumed we were being abusive to her. The manager came out and allowed our request (as if nothing) but didn't de-escalate his employee. read more

Perfect beachside dive with unbelievable local food. I had the octopus and conch in garlic sauce over mofongo and she had prawns with criolla sauce. The criolla sauce is the way to go. The octopus and conch were fresh as could be, both tender and sweet. The conch stew with alcapurras, sea bass special and the tender chicken with rice and beans all looked delicious. Note the hand written specials near the bar. Full bar and ice cold beer available. There is a small laboratory of various pique (local infused hot sauces)... tamarind, lemon, antjiolio(?) all disguised as look-alikes in medium size glass bottles. Beware, these are not for the faint of heart, habanero is a signifigant ingredient. Worth the drive....don't miss this spot. read more

Excellent change of pace and scenery from the resort. The prices were excellent. The food was authentic and delicious. The beer was super cheap. The staff was very friendly. This place is very local so if you're nervous about leaving your ethnocentrism at the resort, it might be a good idea to stay there and pay $15 for a mojito. read more

this place is pretty tasty. it's a nice little open air restaurant across the road from the boat docks. like most restaurants in this area, it's nothing fancy. but execution is good and service is friendly. they cooked our own fish that we brought, which is something not many restaurants agreed to do. we ate here multiple times during our trip. prices are reasonable and the food is good. They catered very well to our needs and left our bill open because he suggested we'd want a second beer. For a beach shack restaurant they have tons of seating across from the moorings/beach. Relatively fast service to the table once you order from the counter. There is a wide selection of foods, beers, and cocktails. They even have desserts! One of the server's kids came by while we were there and he took a break to play with her in the main area. The food is good. The conch arepa was our fave. The stuffed mofongo is expensive ($16-20), but it is large enough that you can split it with a side. However, even if the food wasn't as good as it is, i would recommend it because it is 2 blocks from the bio bay tours. Decent bar food by the Las Croabas marina. A little divey, but it's the standard here on the island. Like every where else you may go, service is slow by US standards. Arepa was fine, albeit a little tough. Snapper fillet really buttery and with a crab pastelillo, it makes a decent meal for 2 people. read more
