My husband and I go out for Mexican food almost every week, and when we say "Mexican," we mean Rancho Viejo. It's our go-to restaurant and has become one of our favorite local spots. We love the food so much that we each order the same meal almost every visit. Some might say we should branch out, but when you know what you love, why change it? From the moment we walk in, we're always greeted with friendly smiles and great service. The staff is welcoming, the service is quick, and the food always arrives hot and fresh. As someone who doesn't enjoy a lot of spice, I appreciate that their salsa is flavorful without being overly hot. Pair that with fresh chips and the delicious, melted cheese drizzled over my entrée, and I'm a happy customer every time. What keeps us coming back, though, is more than just the food. It's the consistency, the hospitality, and the feeling of supporting a family-owned restaurant that truly values its customers. If you haven't tried Rancho Viejo yet, you're missing out. Weird experience at Rancho Viejo. I heard a lot of good things about this place so I am not sure if I just went on an off day? Food wise I thought everything was okay. I did not see much evidence on it being authentic. Nothing here is spicy. The chips and salsa tasted more like chips and tomato juice. The table didnt have any hot sauces, just salt and pepper, so we asked for salsa verde so we could add some heat to the salsa, but they didn't know what salsa verde was. My mom asked for just the guacamole and rice from her guac, salad, and rice side that comes with the meal but they told her that would be an upcharge which we thought was odd. We got our food and it was tasty, but even though the menu mentioned having jalapeños on our meals, we had to ask for them as it only arrived with bell peppers, to which the staff had to go and see if there was any. I ordered the seafood fajitas, but they didnt have the mix so it was only shrimp and tilapia. My meal arrived without tortillas for the fajitas. Once it was time to go, we paid with cash and waited for change. To which the staff came back and started giving us back our money. We were confused, we wanted change so we could tip but not the entire amount back? So she went back and the three staff members kept counting over and over, confused and saying we dont have this kind of cash to tip back loudly infront of the restaurant. My dad said, 'can you just give me ten back? You can keep the rest.' It was like they had no money in that restaurant or never recieved cash before. We were offered no other options like ones, or fives. Yet the place was full of customers. It felt bizarre to assume that no one there was tipping lower bills. They also all did speak english. My husband and I ate lunch here on our way into Syracuse. I can confidently say we will return. Upon seating, we were served chips and salsa. The chips were hot and fresh and the salsa had great flavor. The staff was extremely friendly and, look at the pictures, the amount of food (and this was lunch) is so generous! My son and I dined on a Monday just before 5pm. We were greeted and seated immediately by a friendly gentleman. Margaritas on special 4-6. I ordered the traditional, that and tortilla chips and salsa were served promptly. Love the festive Mexican atmosphere, so bright and welcoming. My son had Quesadillas he asked for no vegetables, also came with rice and fresh Guacamole. He had dined once before with his Father and they both loved it! I had enchiladas with guacamole, food fresh and authentic! The margaritas are a refreshing perfect sweet, sour, and salty bitter. I was offered a to go cup they are generous portions. Recently tried Rancho Viejo with a small party. We were able to make a reservation for a party of 5 earlier in the day and were sat immediately when we came in. Chips and salsa and waters brought quickly. Lots of choices on the menu, but it's basically the exact same menu you see at every Mexican restaurant - I've yet to find a Mexican restaurant that doesn't have the exact same dishes as everywhere else. Our food was brought quickly and while nothing was bad, no one in our party were blown away either. Everything was very average, from the portions to the flavor. I got the primo special - a burrito filled with chorizo & chicken, my wife got fajitas. One of our party got birria tacos and felt the consome was bland. Our service was not great either. While our food was brought quickly, our server was apathetic and made us feel like we were bothering him. When our dishes were brought out, they were brought out one by one with several minutes in between instead of together, which we just found odd and made for an awkward experience. The restaurant is decorated nicely, there is a small parking lot with easily accessible parking spots. We probably would not return, as we've simply had better food and service at other similar restaurants. read more

Great restaurant! The food portions are very large. The menu prices are not low, but also not terribly high, and the portion sizes are great. Our server was awesome and attentive. We went on a Tuesday at 6pm and when asked, they said they had happy hour with $5 off their house margaritas (medium and large). My mom and I love coming to Rancho Viejo on nights out for dinner! We ordered some super yummy drinks (Margaritas, obviously) and had a delicious dinner. It was a little bit busy, but despite this staff were super friendly and helpful. This place had a classic Mexican-restaurant feel which is fun! My family and I came in late to celebrate my sisters birthday , the drinks were made to perfection our waiter Alex was the coolest guy we could have asked for . --We had thought they were open for another hour when really they were getting ready to close . With 45 left they had made us feel in NO rush , they told us several times to take our time and even let us stay past closing so we could finish our meal . 10/10 on Coustmer service they were so beyond nice it made our night and memories that will last forever with our family . This is a very affordable, pleasant restaurant. I love Mexican culture and the decor was well done. The price is outstanding for anyone looking for a good low cost meal that is filling, $16 for la bandera which is the enchiladas supreme. I didn't get any pictures of my meal as it was late, I was very hungry and catching up with my mom. It was 3 enchiladas with rice and a side of lettuce, sour cream and guacamole. Fresh chips and salsa you can tell were homemade. The salsa is not spicy at all, so most kids will love this and people who don't like spicy foods. The salsa was flavorful. I am pretty sure the chips were salt free, so good for people on a low sodium diet like my mom. The staff was extremely nice! I adored the staff and felt like they were sincere in their kind greetings. When I ordered the 3 taco combo of pork, chicken and steak, I asked the waiter if I could substitute the pork for shrimp and up charge me as shrimp is more costly. The female manager later approached and basically scolded me saying she would "allow this one time but to never do it again." She then approached the table with the bill showing me the up charge. The entire restaurant was watching as I was seated in the middle. I was fine with the bill but then the food came and my chipotle tacos were nothing but the protein on a soft taco. The shrimp one had 5 little shrimp on it. I asked for the chipotle sauce and the toppings and were told those were extra. My husband ordered street tacos and they too came out with no toppings. Again, was told the cilantro onion and cheese were extra. I received a tiny dish of the chipotle sauce, about 2 tablespoons worth and again was told it was extra. Taco Bell serves better tacos! We've been there before with no problem. This time though was a terrible experience and that female manager needs to be retrained in customer service. If I was told NO, we cannot substitute a food item, I would have ordered something else. Very simple. Of note, the up charge for the shrimp was $9.00 and the chipotle sauce (which it should've come with as advertised) was $6.00 for the couple of tablespoons worth. We wont be back. read more

Allow me to walk you through my experience here. We had a reservation for 11 people and the restaurant expressed no concern for the size of the party. Upon on entry the food smelled good, we walk to the table and first thing we see is a spider on the table underneath the pile of cutlery! Okay... swiped it off the table no problem. About 10 minutes later another insect on the table! This is getting concerning. Finally about 30 minutes later the waitress comes to take our order for food and drinks. We sat around for probably 45 minutes to an hour waiting for our drinks.... our food comes out one by one first. Took about 10-15 minutes to get all the food set out. We look around parched... still no drinks! Whatever we say and start to eat. Might I mention someone in our party had to wait a while for the tortillas that came with her fajitas. Food was okay, nothing to run home about. Eventually our drinks came out after half of our food is eaten. We are thinking the worst of it is over. No. Took about another hour for the waitress to sort out our bills. I felt like I was in the restaurant for 10 years at this point. Remember the tortillas I mentioned that come with the fajita meal.... we were charged for these tortillas?? At this point we just wanted to get home so we took the loss. I would recommend this place if you're coming by yourself or one other person. Any more in the party than that might cause some issues in the efficiency of the service. It also does not help that we witnessed our waitress taking shots behind the bar before we even had our drink orders. If you want a decent sized strong margarita for a good price this is a good place for that! However, I do not think I will be returning to this establishment or recommending it to other people. read more
