People have been telling me for years to come here and we finally made it. Coincidentally ended up here on Pasta Night (Monday) and Mama's did not disappoint. Our server Ben was great, he provided the best service I've had at any restaurant in a while. My boyfriend and I shared the Calamari in Arrabbiata sauce, and then for $17 each we got garlic knots, salad, and our choice of Pasta (baked ziti and rigatoni bolognese is what we ordered). After dinner we had coffee and cheesecake which was part of the $17 pasta night special. The plates were definitely big enough to share, but we couldn't decide on just one entree from the 40+ options. I definitely recommend this place, and if you can request Ben you won't regret it. We usually go and eat in house at Mama's, but tonight we decided to door dash. We love this restaurant and have been going there for years. I went online on the door dash app and found that the Chicken Parm hero was listed as $21.00. I had called the restaurant to see if this was correct and they advised me that it was listed wrong. The first young lady I spoke to was very courteous, but whoever I was transferred was incredibly rude. I was nothing but courteous on the phone and just had some questions. My soft tone and kindness was met by "What do you want me to do " and "Im very busy, my phone is ringing off the hook". She would also cut me off before I could even ask my ONE question. I just had one simple question on a price. I understand the dinner rush and advised her there was no need for her tone or her dismissing attitude. My family owns a very successful Italian Restaurant (we like to support other businesses once in a while) and if one of my employees acted in this fashion they would be gone! The phone "ringing off the hook" is a good thing which means people like your product, but your employees are a reflection of your business. Never expected this from a family favorite. We were hosting friends who had just experienced a loss in the family and promised them some good food. Mama's missed out on a $100+ order tonight. Very sad that we were pushed away. read more

If you love the traditional Mama's owned by Grace and her husband then please take those memories, cherish them and never return to this place again because the new owners are ruining what was the most iconic Italian restaurant on Long Island! Grace and her husband took pride in this business and the new owner could care less. The food and menu changed, most importantly the attention to detail is no longer there. Grace made sure every single night to introduce herself to every table and if you mentioned one thing even if it was small being off she fixed it immediately and apologized till the second you left. Tonight I left in tears knowing I would never have this experience again; our table was completely covered in files which all of the other tables experienced too we told the waiter who informed us that they know of the issues which didn't make it any better. We finally had enough and went to leave but talked to the new owner on the way out who said that we should get used to this it's happened everywhere which is the biggest lie since we were out Friday and Saturday and go out every weekend and have never in our life experienced a bug issue like we did tonightZ I will take my memories of the old school Mama's owned by Grace and cherish them knowing I will never return again and I bet money that Mama's will not last much longer under the new ownership. read more

I really can't understand the big deal with this place. It's always insanely busy but the food is average at best. I can't say anything about their pizza but the pasta dish I had was not good at all- it was pappardelle with porcini mushrooms in a red sauce. My gf had the chicken parm and I will say it was pretty good but at the end of the day, it's still chicken parm. Tartufo for dessert was pretty good but it was obviously bought from an outside vendor so I can't give the restaurant credit for making it. The worst part about this place isn't even the food- it's the clientele. Head over to your nearest nursing home to get an idea of what it is like in this joint. read more

A 5 star rating for me is extremely rare but Mama's is a restaurant that deserves it. We stopped by for the first time ever on our way back from Westhampton this past Thursday night after hearing about it from my sister (who is also a tough critic). We had no idea that we would luck out and be able to go there on "chicken night" but we did (and we got there early so no wait at all!). They have a special on Mondays with "pasta night" and Thursdays with "chicken night." Well, for $14.95 you get a really nice salad with the most amazing balsamic dressing, a choice of about 20 different chicken dishes, a side of pasta, cheesecake and coffee. You can't beat this special price for the large, delicious portions they give you and the amazingly prepared dishes. I had a wonderful chicken parm and my husband had the best chicken pizzaiola ever. Their tomato sauces are great and the salad dressing is so good that I actually bought a pint of it to take home and I've been savoring it all week on salads at home. Yes, it's that good that I should be raving about a salad dressing. There has to be crack in it because I'm starting to get nervous that it will soon be finished and I will have no more left! Now for the garlic knots! I almost forgot about them. They are heavenly puffs of dough bathed in garlic and highly addictive. Definitely THE BEST garlic knots I have ever tasted in my life. The pizza choices at the counter looked amazing and the next time we go back on a non-special night (and there definitely will be a next time!), we have to try the pizza and the wonderful appetizers we saw going by as well as some of the great pasta dishes on the menu. The owner was very nice and extremely appreciative and the service was great even though it was very crowded by the time we left. I have no idea why some of the reviews said the service was bad since the waiters and waitresses we saw were all very nice and many of them greeted their customers as soon as they recognized them. I wish we lived closer but we will be traveling from Oceanside to eat here again soon because it was that good. On second thought, it's probably better that we don't live closer since I'd weigh 250 lbs eating there all the time! Go to Mama's and enjoy! read more

The sign says "Mama's Pizza", but the name is a misnomer, because this more of a sit-down family restaurant than a pizza parlor. We arrived for an early lunch on a Sunday, and we were presented with dinner menus, which did not even include pizza. The waiter who looks like the actor, Chazz Palminteri ("A Bronx Tale"), must be a stand-up comedian when he is not working here, because he subjected us to an endless barrage of quips, wisecracks, and remarks which he thought were very funny. However, he was not outrightly rude, and we eventually got everything that we ordered. While my companions had heavy-looking parmagana dishes, which they couldn't even finish because of the large portion sizes, I went with lighter fare, soup and a salad. The Italian Wedding Soup was a chicken broth with tiny meatballs, brasied escarole, and ditalini pasta. It was not too good. The escarole and the meatballs were cooked properly, but both the meatballs and the broth were extremely salty. The broth seemed to be made purely from commercial chicken bouillon concentrate dissolved in hot water, which, I suppose, is how one bowl of soup is "made to order, not premade in a big pot", as per the waiter's explaination. I also ordered the Salumeria Antipasto platter--romaine lettuce, marinated artichokes, roasted peppers, mozzarella, provelone, soppresata, frizzled onions, and balsamic dressing. This was not too bad, especially the fried onions, although the artichokes and peppers tasted like they came out of a can, and the few rounds of soppresata were thick and leathery. They really tout their house balsamic dressing, which was good. I can't comment on the rest of the extensive menu, but it is unlikely that I will eat here again. 2-1/2 stars. read more

Also, when you put a sign up that says "$3.00 off Sicilian Pizza on Wednesdays." you might want to honor that deal, and not tell me after the meal that it's "take-out only." Even though the sign did not say take out only. Owner was a real piece of work when trying to haggle the price. Eventually he gave in, but I think it was to get me out of the restaurant, as it was bringing a lot of attention to the other guests that this place was ripping us off. It's 2014. Free refills have been a thing for over a decade. I could have purchased five two liter's for the price they were trying to charge me for 32 oz of soda. Get real, Joe. read more

Came here on a Saturday night for an early Valentine's Day dinner. My wife and I had an amazing time and had great service by our waiter Greg. He made us feel very welcomed and really made our night out special. He was attentive to our needs, made us laugh, and we really appreciate someone who goes above and beyond. Don't be deceived by the name, Mama's is so much more than just pizza. The house salad dressing must be laced with crack because I swear I wake up sometimes in the middle of the night craving it. The sweet chili sesame calamari is a culinary delight that is second to none (my gf and I can make a meal out of just it). Often there are specials which are nothing short of inspired genius. But my personal favorite is their basic Italian dishes. I cannot go here and NOT order the Gnocchi alla Mama. Served with huge chunks of garlic I find myself sitting at my table dying every time I see an order come out of the kitchen and not be brought to my table. Oh, I almost forgot to mention that the portions are gigantic. Be prepared to take home leftovers for another meal or two. Now the downside. It is frequently crowded ... like all great restaurants.
