I'd give it 3.5 based solely on my families experience. The service was very good, atmosphere was nice. They unfortunately kept it freezing in the place on a 52 degree day, wasn't happy about asking for it to be turned off 3xs n being told its off when the air was blasting on us. As for the food, kinda pricey for a pizza place restaurant. My family ordered shrimp parmigiana, a couple of chicken dishes n my brother of course got the veal chop. They all liked their dishes. I had the shrimp and chicken arreganata duo over whole wheat pasta. I found it somewhat flavorless and the 3 small/medium shrimp were over cooked. This place was busy but the 4 of us found a table. The jumbo shrimp appetizer was delicious. We all opted for fish over pasta. The sole and flounder dishes were enjoyed by all. We've been coming here for years. Like when it was the smaller restaurant....and the original pizza shop before that....So a really long time. It started going downhill when we took food out during the pandemic. Our order was wrong but we knew that things were crazy so we let it go. Until there was a water bottle cap in our food. Especially during this pandemic with the whole germ thing that is a big turn off. We decided to give it one more shot and go out to dinner. Our waitress didn't pay attention to us. My dad ordered a pasta dish which was supposed to be papradelle pasta and it came out and it wasn't. THEN, they now charge a 3% fee on your bill if you use credit. All fine and dandy I get that, but we used debit (which it is illegal to charge a debit card like a credit card) so my dad made sure to tell them it's a debit card so don't treat it like credit (we had a big group so the 3% was a giant chunk of change) and the waitress said okay went and swiped his card like credit. Safe to say after a long argument and having to go get cash to prove our point, we will not be going back. read more

One of the best Italian restaurants on LI. Food portions are enormous, and you can usually make almost three meals out of them. Their pasta dishes are great, and even come with a garden salad. The garlic knots alone are a reason to dine here. Their gorgonzola sauce is excellent with a penne and crumpled sausage dish. Only four stars instead of five, as they are very inconsistent when asking to substitute the sauce used in the pasta dishes. Every other Italy rest I've dined has no problem switching a red sauce for analfredo or pesto if they offer it with other dishes. I've only had a 50% success rate when asking for a substitution. read more

Love this restaurant, great food and great service most of the time. Would get another star if not for last night's experience. Went with six friends after a film as we usually do to Mama's, and wound up having an awkward and unpleasant time by the end of dinner. Had a young waiter named Gino who seemed new, was messing up a bit but we didn't make a fuss, we've all been in those spots. Most of the food came out as it should, except a couple of dishes which took much longer than they should've, but the food was delicious as always. Problems occured when I asked for a water, got the water but it looked tinted, seemed the waiter accidentally pressed iced tea button so some got in. As we pointed out it wasn't water, he left the iced tea water at our table for some reason, and said we should experiment with it. As he left to get another water we looked at each other as that was a strange thing to say. Also took about four times asking for balsamic dressing for a salad till he finally remembered to bring it. Best part is here, couple of friends asked for dessert, as they were having dessert he brought over the check. We paid in cash, doubling the tax, which we felt was being generous. He comes over to clean up the table and asks us if his service was good, we said it was fine, just trying to be nice since he was obviously new. He then surprisingly asks why we screwed him on the tip then. We couldn't believe it, It's not like we left a $5 tip. He then starts in that it's tough economic times and everybody's struggling and we could've gave him more. I argued that everybody is struggling, not just him. He was relentless with saying we weren't good people because he didn't get a few extra bucks. I had to leave very quickly since I was getting extremely angry and as we left I had some choice words for him. Still recommend going to Mama's for the great food, and usually great service. If you go make sure you ask not to have this waiter if you don't want a glass of water to get messed up, ask for items many times as food is getting cold, and if you don't want to get hassled about your tip. I'll still continue to go, but hopefully won't see this waiter there next time. read more

Not feeling this place at all, the food isn't good it's just plentiful. I'm not interested in having a huge portion of food that's not passable. Just about every item we ordered had a problem. My husband and I ate at Mamas for the first time last night. The food was absolutely delicious and the service was the best. Our waiter, Giuseppe, was extremely personable and so very helpful - He took his time to help us make just the right choices for dinner and dessert. The staff was also very attentive and friendly. And our meal was a delightful experience - The chicken panzarella was out of this world and the tres leches cheese cake was extraordinary. Even my decafe cappuccino was smooth and delicious. Two stars means I have experienced better. I have, and it was right HERE! We have been coming to Mama's for over 20 years, and after the last three visit's, I'm afraid it seems like the things are changing, and not for the better. Two things stand out for us. First, the pizza is not the same, delicious pie that made this place our favorite. It seems of inconsistent taste, never the case before. Each of the last 3 visits, the pizza was different every time, and none of them the way it used to be. Second, during the last two visit's, ALL the music being played, and much too loud btw, was a mix of reggae/hispanic songs. I really do not think it is unreasonable to want to hear something besides this mix of music. It is, after all, an Italian restaurant. I would'nt go to a sushi restaurant and expect to hear Sinatra! Sorry Mama's. I think you forgot your roots. For the first time in 20 yrs, I would not recommend you to anyone. I might try one more time, or maybe just leave it to be a good memory. read more

Don't go during lunch unless you want to wait on a huge line. I called ahead my simple order of a large pie and was still instructed to wait on a line that reached the front door in order to pick it up. The whole point of calling ahead is to avoid the line of people waiting to order. They only have 1 register going at the busiest time of the day. They've lost my long time business. read more

Horrible to start we give our name because there was a wait which is fine But after waiting and seeing people being seated who came in after us I went up and asked the women said we where next, we'll another half hour passes go up again and same response well it took 3 times and an hour later for her to realize she crossed us off a,d the buzzer did not work. The food is delicious (just like home cooked meals) and the staff couldn't be more courteous and professional. The portions are so generous, it will feed you for days and great value! I have brought family, friends, and colleagues to Mama's every time I can to enjoy the ambiance, food, and my favorite, Peach sangria! I have catered food for holidays on several occasions and the quality of the food is consistent - DELICIOUS! On a regular, we buy the balsamic salad dressing - our favorite! They have fed our community and family during hurricane Sandy and during this pandemic have donated food to our men in blue and heath care workers. Last night my family went to Mama's for my son's 24th birthday. We were 8 people. We were waiting on 2 people in our party to arrive but we were told "cant seat you till all are here." We were on a time constraint so I told the hostess that they would arrive in 10 minutes . She went to get the owner. I proceeded to tell the owner that I was going to order their food and they would be here before the food came. She batted her eyelashes at me and said then I will seat you in 10 minutes. So now she not only lost out on a table of 8 of which 6 are over 21. She lost out on drinks, appetizers, and dessert. She seems to forget that at one time she was a small pizzeria and customers like us made her as big as she is now. I will never go there again and I hope people read this and feel the same way. So I'm reading about this grand place and was recommend to go here by several people! I looked at Yelp of Course, and it said that they take reservations! I was thinking great! Because it was for my Mother's Birthday on a Sunday and we where a group of 6 people! So I called them up and asked if I can make a reservation for 6. The guys, tells me "no we don't take reservations!" Wait what??? So fast foward to Sunday, my family and I show up there, and I ask for a table for 6 and they said we would have to wait some time, and that next time I should call ahead to let them know of a big party! Mamas should be the greatest but it 's fault is in trying too hard in the wrong places ordering a pizza there on this occasion with mussrooms and onion the pizza man used (with the best of intentions i am sure) a 1/2 mushroom unsliced this resulted in th center of the pie crust being sodden and doughy , i saw on a cooking show the world pizza competition in Italy and the prime rule is less is more this evening i wa hungry and went in to sit down at the restaurant with the intention of ordering a simple classic linguini and clam sauce . i read the menu and pointed out to the waiter that it listed as ingredients clam linguini white wine and parsley what came was a plate of roasted garlic linguini and a chiffonade of basil with 2 baby clams on the shell and no chopped clam on the linguini . i pointed this out to the waiter and he returned in 4 minutes with a plate that had again at least 2 entire bulbs of roasted garlic a hand full of coarse torn italian parsley and only 2 clams . after eating for a while looking for the actual clam i realized there wasn't any and what i had been serves was actually linguini and roasted garlic with a hint of clam i asked the nearest waiter to speak to the head waiter and he replied "there is no head waiter " i describes my experience as documented above refused to pay and walked out. in front i was confronted with the head chef and i told him what i ordered and what i got and left him with the admonition that is not a dish of Naples you served don't mess with the classics . i am NEVER going ack to Mamas . anyone who likes this place and would go back is probably a customer at the cracker barrel or friendlies this in spite of its trappings is not a real restaurant . what i hoped would be an at least adequate meal totally ruined my night and my composure (i never complain at restaurants preferring to pay and not come back this was really incompetent ) read more
