We were traveling and seen this through Maps, decided to stop. The owner was incredibly nice. And Very friendly. Let's just say the he was honest in the fact his food was excellent!!! My family have been eating at the Camarillo location since it opened. We previously meet the owner at the Newbury Park location and he was friendly and very outgoing. But, my last interaction at the Camarillo location I delt with an female employee that I have never seen at prior visits. I attempted to order 2 chicken Shwarma plates ($26) and chicken/ rice plate ($10) for my son. I was then told it was $56 dollars I told her she did not add the order correctly since the total should be $36 plus tax. I was then told it was $46. I asked if she added the correct amount and I was told it was tax. I told her to cancel my order and left. I was really excited to try this place since I love Mediterranean food but I was a little disappointed... I ordered the tri tip wrap and it was so hard and dry tasted like leftovers from a few days ago. The pita wrap was good and the seasonings were good. The staff was very friendly and the food was done like in 5 minutes. It's not too pricey but again, the meat was extremely dry and hard almost tasted like jerky. I was starving so I finished the whole thing but I don't think I'll order this again. I might try it again because it's a healthier option than a lot of restaurants out there. I also had an allergic reaction to something in the sauce my tongue swelled and got numb so that was strange because as far as I know I do not have any food allergies but I am allergic to roaches which I REALLY hope they don't have any.... the place seemed very clean read more

Mama's Hummus is as close to Authentic Lebanese food as you'll get in the Ventura county region. I go there fairly often, both locations too, even though it's about a 20 minute drive. There's a movie theater next door too so I usually eat here before a movie. Their Chicken shawarma wraps are so good, I get two every time I go there. My wife loves their lamb kabob plate as well. As a middle easterner myself I'm so lucky to have a joint like this nearby. Every time I go there it reminds me of the food overseas. I think the price is reasonable especially when you compare it to similar joints in the valley. I would also say their ingredient quality is much better. Especially their meat, a lot of places will use the restaurant depot type beef and it's soooo disappointing, but Mama's Hummus uses the real stuff. Really nice staff, they take phone orders as well and the food is ready really fast. They have some TV's inside as well usually playing sports. I'll upload some photos of my food next time. This place is overpriced for what you get. I guess since Mama's is the only Mediterranean restaurant out in Camarillo, people are willing to pay the price over the mundane sandwiches from all the other places. The quality of the food is edible - not horrible - but again, the price compared to really good Mediterranean restaurants and this place, makes it not worth it for a 2nd visit. For example, a chicken shawarma pita wrap with no sides is $6.95! A toasted pita wrap and slices of chicken. Seven bucks. What?! no tomato? no salad? no little side of hummus? My co-worker was left disappointed and hungry! Honestly, Daphne's is better than Mamma's! In fact what happened to Daphne's? It closed down? Why?! Now people are forced to eat this crap. My co-workers and I are so bummed out about this place that we actually drive all the way to Thousand Oaks Mall where they have Hummus Brothers in the food court. You can get their chicken shawarma with lettuce, tomato, onion, & tzatziki sauce for the included price of $6.95! Add $1 if you want a side or $2 for sides. This is a "sister" location to the Mama's Hummus in Newbury Park, of which we are already HUUUUUGE fans. The owners are super friendly, and more importantly, they churn out quality food..... extremely tasty and delicious food. Such wonderful flavor. This newer location in Camarillo has the same menu, the actual restaurant is larger and maybe even a little more upscale in its décor, but the food is the same great taste. I am personally hooked on their chicken shawarma plate (comes with a generous portion of their fabulous hummus which is to be eaten with 2 huge pieces of pita bread, a mini-salad, and some fragrant, moist basmati rice. I also typically order their lentil soup, which is outstanding. WONDERFUL flavors and spices in that soup. That being said, when I first appeared at this location, it was for a late lunch, so I just ordered their chicken shawarma wrap. The garlic sauce that accompanies the chicken shawarma was a bit much for the pita bread, thus the sandwich fell apart and was a bit difficult to control. That being said, I still managed to finish it. :-) I would maybe ask for the sauce on the side next time.... but knowing me, I'll just stick with my favorite, the chicken shawarma plate. One word.. Authentic!!!! I am Lebanese with half of my family currently living in Lebanon & I can tell what real Lebanese food is supposed to be. Very thankful for this delicious restaurant being so close to my home. If you are looking for a healthy and fresh lunch or dinner this is exactly where you need eat! :) Very generous portions. My favorites include: chicken shawarma plate, vegetable combo plate, Tabouli, and lentil soup! I always mean to order something new, but it's hard when I love those items as much as I do! There are several restaurants locally that claim to be serving "Mediterranean food" but they fall very short of what is authentic . The owner is very nice and always hands on in the kitchen. Well hellllo Mama! My friend and I stopped in to grab some food to sneak into the movie, and although Mediterranean food is not your typical sneak into the movie theatre dish, we couldn't walk away from their menu. First of all Sam the lovely young lady who helped us narrow down all the wonderful choices was absolutely fantastic. She was sweet, kind, knowledgeable and very funny. She took the time to understand my flavor and tastes and I wound up ordering the chicken schwarma and a side of falafel and a side of hummus. When the food was ready just shortly after ordering we decided to head over to the movies. Unfortunately, the movie was sold out, but it didn't stop us from enjoying a great night. Four stars for the food, service, convenience and location. The food here is great! I personally haven't had anything I didn't like/love. Their garlic sauce is TOP NOTCH as well as the hummus. My go to menu items are the chicken shwarma plate, Kafka, falafels and shwarma hummus. I took 1 star away for the pricing. Over all I think most items are priced fairly but you are charged an additional $1 for some of the sauces. For instance if you order 5 falafel you have to pay for Tahiti sauce, you will not be given one. Not a big deal, or enough to keep me away just something I think is helpful to know. The service at the register is also very good. There is one particular cashier that is very friendly and rememebrs you if you're a regular, I like that. Overall, try this place. Ok, came in town from Denver for a convention and went to two different mamas hummus on separate occasions because yes it was that damn good. Meat and vegetables were fresh beyond belief and the prices match the portion perfectly. Very clean in both locations. Customer service was friendly but also a tad bit slightly no nonesense. Wish there was more of a vibe in here which there is not. Seems like the clientele and some staff are either super quiet or I'm just expecting a little more movement. Idk but it's was still delicious. Maybe the employees are stressed. No smiles unless I like forced it out of them. Oh well the food is delicious. Also the lamb is the only meat that is halal and if it's the cubes you should know it's come medium, not well. Yes you can ask them to cook it longer. But unfortunately the chicken and the beef is not halal. So if my friends only eat Zabiha and don't like lamb, it's vegetarian plate for ya! It's a chain. But damn good one. read more

My husband and I went to Mamas Humus a few weeks ago and were impressed with the food. My husband wanted to have dinner again there with my son and his wife. The food was nowhere near as good. Mine was quite dry and when I asked for more sauce, I was told I'd have to pay more for it. My wrap clearly had less sauce than the other 3. They also only gave us one napkin each. The CHICKEN SHAWARMA WRAP is amazing! The garlic sauce really makes it great! The wrap only has the chicken, garlic sauce, and pickles; it doesn't include lettuce and tomato like other places add but I think it's perfect the way it is. It is a pretty decent size serving and price. The HUMMUS is also amazing. It has a stronger tahini flavor than any hummus I've ever tried but I think that's what I like about it. The order comes with about a cup size serving of it. I still think it's a little pricey but it's worth it. The KIBBEH BALLS are another favorite of mine. They have an outer fried shell made of bulgur and are stuffed with ground beef. The order comes with 4 and lemon slices and some sauce that I don't know what it is. This is also pricey in my opinion but also very much worth it. I've been to the Camarillo location and the Newbury Park location. Both taste great to me, but I like the Camarillo location better because there is much more seating space indoors and outdoors. The indoor area in the Newbury Park location only has like 4 tables. What a gem. Stopped by this afternoon for some lunch to-go, and am so tempted to go back again for dinner. Highlights: Delicious, clean restaurant, full of flavor. After walking in, I was immediately pleased with how clean everything was. Food safety is very important to me, and for that reason alone, I would visit again. Aside from the cleanliness, the food was delicious!! We ate the Chicken Schawerma Wrap, Falafel Wrap and a side of fries. Everything was so delicious and full of flavor. We've both traveled through Eastern Europe and have been unable to find delicious Schawerma since. Finally! We can - finally - satisfy our cravings!! I was a big fan of Mama's Hummus in Newbury Park, so I was excited to try out this closer Camarillo location. Although it is just right down the hill, it does seem like the food is not quite the same. It could have just been that I tried this place out right when it first opened, but the taste was not as stellar as the Newbury location, and the meats were overcooked. However, it's still satisfying and the grilled trout is never disappointing. I recommend trying the grilled trout plate which comes with fish, tahini sauce for the fish, rice, pita, salad, pickled veggies, and hummus. It's delicious and is worth the money. As for the cost, things here are a little pricey for the amount of food you get. This is especially true for the steak plate. In my opinion I do not think the price is justified by the amount or quality of the steak, especially if it's overcooked. Their garlic spread is good too if you have a chicken dish, or you can just smear it onto your pita like I do. I wish they didn't charge for it since it's just garlic and oil, but oh well, it's worth a try if you haven't had it before. read more

This is my all-time favorite Mediterranean restaurant. I've tried many others, here locally and while traveling the United States, and nothing compares to Mama's Hummus. The hummus is perfect, the rice is amazing, the meat is always cooked just right. The portion sizes are great and the prices are on point. My favorite little bonus is the roasted jalapeno they give you with the plate to give it a kick of flavor. I had never had a falafel until one of the staff offered a sample to broaden my foodie knowledge. Now I'm hooked. I can't rave enough about this place as I've never had a bad meal here. This is a perfect place to grab a quick lunch especially after watching a movie at the Roxy! I got the falafel wrap which was amazing; the falafels itself was well seasoned and all of the condiments in the wrap complemented the falafels perfectly. It did get super messy at the end since that's where all of the sauce gathered, but that's what napkins are for! The price point of the wraps aren't too bad either (ranges from around $7-10). So nice to find a shawarma restaurant with the meat on a spit! The chicken was so tender and flavorful and the garlic sauce was delish. ***** Closed on Sunday for the month of August. Brilliant. as we sat eating our Baja Fresh we saw two couples turned away by the sign. Counting us, that's about $75 that walked away in the course of 30 minutes. So much for lunch and a movie here. I want to support local mom & pop business. But when they don't support me, the business goes to the chains. ***** My H and I are regulars at the Newbury Park location and like to go here too, now that it's open. Today's mother's day, so my son and I decided to go here for lunch. Not. Closed for mother's day. Party-foul, folks. They need to hire a staff that will work on "holidays". This review is within the context of the category of restaurant this is: a fast-serve, order-at-the-counter place with high quality ethnic food. I like the outdoor eating area at this location. It's pleasant, not too windy, has decent shade, and gets me away from the indoor noise. The food here really is about as good as Mediterranean food can be. The kafta is so delicious, seasoned properly with a variety of herbs (tastes like mint, parsley, dill, thyme, but far be it for me...) and enough salt. I hate it when restaurants are afraid of salt. Only on one or two occasions at the other store, have I encountered an under-cooked or under-seasoned kafta. I'm there a lot, too. 99% of the time, the food is perfection. This location actually seems to season their food a little bit more heavily and I like it that way. Their hummus is deliciously nutty, creamy, and authentic. AND their babaganoush is freakin' godly. Smokey, nutty, garlicy, amazing. I think the falafels could be a tad less... hard? I'd like to see them not scrape the roof of my mouth. The flavor is really good, though with a perfect amount of cumin. Their idea of tabouleh is a little odd to me. I'm used to it being dominated by the cracked wheat. Theirs is more like seasoned minced parsley. Maybe that's how Lebanese do it. The pita bread is OK, nothing to do two huzzahs and a back flip over. The restaurant is clean and, YAY! they actually bus and wipe-down the tables and sweep the floor. One of my pet peeves is when I'm expected to eat at a dirty table with crap all over the floor. Gross. Well, not here! They care about hygiene here. :-) A few suggestions I offer, to bump it from 4 stars to 5: - The music. Isn't it there for the customers? Then why are the employees selecting the most bizarre and annoying stuff ever? They should just find a station with "classic rock" or something, keep the volume low, and leave it. No club-mixes. No electronica. No mariachi music (seriously, it's happened). Face it, the demographics of the West Conejo Valley and East Camarillo are mostly regular working adults with the income to buy up-scale quick-serve food. Not angst-filled youngsters who can't wait for the hypnotic pulsating beat of a dance club. - The iced tea. It's a little watery and tasteless. I wish they'd just brew their own. They're so good with flavors at this restaurant, I bet they could come up with something amazing. Even if they don't... it would be nice to have more choices in non-carbonated unsweetened / lightly sweetened soft drinks... that aren't bottled / canned. Something infused or mixed, like lemonade or cucumber water would be good. Food this good can be ruined by Diet Coke. - Garnishes. I feel guilty leaving behind those lovely grilled tomatoes and jalepenos, as well as the marinated yellow peppers that are hotter than the sun. They put a half a tomato and a half a jalepeno on each plate, but few people use them. Compounded over a year, I bet those garnishes come to a significant portion of their food budget. If it were my restaurant I'd cut way back on the garnishes and increase the size of the salad that comes with the plates... OR, just make more profit and offer those things on request. The owner is a very gracious and knowledgeable lady who really cares about the product the restaurant serves.
