Finally, a Mediterranean grill for those of us on the west end of Camarillo! I've been going to Village Mart for their great craft beer selection for a while. Today, after a few months of renovations, they've opened a Mediterranean grill in the new expanded area. The menu is what you'd expect from a Mediterranean grill. I tried the chicken shawarma plate and lamb shawarma plate. The garlic sauce, hummus, and pickles were all fantastic. The french fries had a tasty seasoning on them, but I wish they offered ketchup with them. The lamb and chicken shawarma were quite flavorful, albeit a bit dryer than I would've liked. The portions were enormous for the price, and they didn't skimp on the protein at all. Since this is only their first day of service, I think there is room for improvement, but I'm really excited to try the rest of the menu -- especially the breakfast burritos, wraps, and falafel. Woah. This place far exceeded my expectations. It's a counter top, to go order in the corner of a liquor mart in the strip mall next to Ralphs. You go up to the counter on the left and order, they give you a ticket that you take to the cash register, and then you go back and pick up your order from the counter. They're only like 12 feet apart so it isn't a hassle at all, and the people who help you are so nice I could have gone back and forth a few more times with no problem. I ordered the chicken shawarma which comes with rice, pickles, pickled something else, hummus, garlic sauce, and pita. It was only like $13! I'm only like 1/4 done with it and I'm stuffed, but can't stop eating it. I have to say, it's probably in the top 3 Mediterranean places I've EVER had. So flavorful, the chicken is well done on the outside and tender on the inside. The rice and hummus are buttery and the garlic sauce adds so much to the dish. Even the pickles are superior. I really appreciated that the staff wore masks and gloves, and they had plastic barriers to keep everyone safe. I can't wait to go back and try some more options, especially the fries! Ordered a shawarma plate and a half chicken plate and both were delicious. The shawarma plate was my favorite. I loved just how juicy and well seasoned the chicken/lamb was. I also loved how they served the meat over the rice so that it could soak up all those delicious flavors. Overall, I am really surprised on how much I liked this place. All the young dudes at this place are chill, but there's was an old man tending the register today. I asked him to check my scratches for winners. Keep in mind it was not busy & he had a TV set up directly across from him to watch the World Cup games. He rudely said I could check the winners myself at the scanner 4. Beware of this place when checking your Lotto tickets. I had the attendant check my numbers got $2 back and then he threw away my ticket even though I wanted it back. He threw it in trash with dozens of other tickets too difficult to see which one was mine. Next time ask the patron if they would like their ticket back before throwing in the trash. Not cool. Eat here only if you have no where else to go. This is not Mediterranean food the meat tastes like Mexican taco meat and doesn't come on a Kabo. The rice has carrots not Mediterranean. Green Olive makes good food, but this market is the worst. Every time I pay, there is a mysterious extra charge added to my bill. I was told that there was a $0.50 fee for using my credit card (after I had already paid and questioned the cashier), but the numbers still didn't add up because more than $0.50 was added to the total. This is not the first time an unexplained fee has shown up on my receipt - the last time it happened, I also asked for an explanation and was told that it was "tax"... however, the tax appeared separately on the check, so this also did not make sense. Secondly, the cashier was not wearing a mask even though they are again now required indoors. Bottom line: employees need to follow mask guidelines and stop scamming patrons with hidden fees on every transaction. It might only be an extra dollar that they charge you each time, but it's just not right. Dishonesty and a lack of respect for others make this place a no-go. Take your business elsewhere. read more

We have been four times since they opened, it's that good!! We have ordered falafel wraps, chicken schwarma and hummus. They are great! Hummus is the best we've had in years. The falafel wrap is huge and delicious . I went in to pick up my order and asked about baklava and they gave me a free sample! Again delicious! They also gave me free garlic sauce and pita on another trip (I've tipped a lot extra at the counter for such great service.) This liquor store is more than meets the eye from the outside. The variety on their alcohol is awesome, I say this because I went searching for Everclear everywhere and I couldn't find it but I found it here. I'm a candy FIEND so when I came in here to get something, the options where endless. You want M&Ms? They have Mint, Peanut Better, Original, Peanut, and Pretzel. Same goes for the Skittles, there are so many options. With each brand of candy, there are plenty of options, not to mention the Mexican candy they offer! What a unique find in an area I was clueless about. Aside from having quality snacks, the most Bang flavors I've ever seen, walls of liquor, this place also has a kick ass middle eastern kitchen. The chicken shawarma platter was delicious and the hummus was smooth. I felt like ordering more but had to temper myself because I look forward to trying their lamb shawarma next time. I wish I could have this style of corner store in my neighborhood. I definitely think it makes it worth making a trip to Camarillo. I saw an advertisement on Facebook and had to try it asap. Ordered a whole rotisserie chicken plate and falafel plate. Everything was so tasty love that chicken so tasty. It's awesome to have Mediterranean cuisine a lot closer to home I would have to go all the way to the other side of town for that. Will definitely be coming back. I had been patiently waiting for them to open their Deli, and today wifey and I decided to give them a try. We are glad that we did! I ordered a Chicken Shawarma Wrap and she went with the Tri Tip Lamb Shawarma and both were lights out! Juicy cuts of meat and flavorful seasonings & ingredients made for a tasty early lunch date. Make sure you try their garlic and tahini sauces with your meal as they both really helped bring out the authenticity of their dishes. Literally took my last bite and just had to write this review. Food is AMAZING. Dessert AMAZING. Had a falafel wrap delicious and big portion. Ate half will enjoy the rest tomorrow for lunch. Husband had the chicken shawarma wrap, it was big, burrito size. The greek salad was refreshing and the lemon bars OMG I had to lick the container it was so delicious. Male Cashier was so rude telling a customer to "hurry up" while choosing some scratcher tickets to buy. They should have placed the scratcher tickets upright on a display cabinet so people can see them while waiting in line so as to save time in choosing or add additional cashier if the line is being held up by a customer because he/she is choosing to buy items behind the counter. The male cashier then started talking bad to me about that customer in front of me. I was so turned off by his attitude that I told him that I was a regular there and had witness his rudeness twice already and that they've just lost a customer. The other time was my own experience with him months prior. I had 15 cents change and he didn't give it to me. I had to ask him for it. His reply was, "It's just 15 cents!" I've been stopping here for beverages for many years and when the new crew bought it the REALLY did an amazing job renovating, redesigning and reinvigorating the old place! Today I was driving by in the parking lot and caught the unmistakable scent of roasted lamb. I'd spoken to one of the managers, Michael a ways back and weekly tracked the progress of the beautiful kitchen they'd commissioned and expressed how excited I was to try one of their first Shawarmas. For context, I've spent about 7 years in the Middle East as a contractor and I've had no less than 700 Shawarma sandwiches not to include the hundreds of Shawarma platters. This Shawarma is undoubtedly in the top 5 I've EVER had!! The perfect carve of the lamb and TRI TIP medley (resulting in a proper chopped texture) The fine parsley onion mixture, the coarsely chopped pickled veggies, the super thin pita bread (making for a high meat to bread ratio).....
