We came here with fairly low expectations after reading some of the negative reviews, but we were pleasantly surprised. The food was outstanding and clearly made with high-quality ingredients. I had the Greek salad with jumbo shrimp, and it was absolutely incredible. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. Would I come back? Absolutely. Don't let the negative reviews discourage you--they don't do this place justice. The quality of the food is excellent, and while the prices may be higher than some other places, they're reflective of the quality you're getting. Definitely worth a visit. I'm going to start off by saying these people giving one star reviews to a new restaurant need to give them time and grace. We came in today (a Thursday around 5) we decided to sit at the bar and had a fantastic time. Our bartender gave great service and she was very friendly. Actually everyone we encountered was friendly. The restaurant is beautiful. I loved seeing the beautiful paintings on the walls. Now to the food! The meat dolmas with lemon sauce were delicious. I would get those over the regular rice ones. House Greek salad and dressing A+ The lamb, hummus, and tzatziki sauce on the gyro plate were great. I'd skip the fries next time and ask for rice. The chicken gyro plate was dry (great flavor but we wouldn't order that again) The margaritas were tasty and they offer non alcoholic wine! Yay for me! They also have happy hour pricing at the bar. This former Souplantation has been transformed into a Greek destination with large-scale murals, white tablecloths and a showcase bar. The cavernous space is perfect for large gatherings. Our server was pleasant and very attentive. My Greek salad was huge and beautiful. The gyro meat was hot but not overdone. Tzatziki was one of the best I've ever had. My friend's falafel plate was equally beautiful with fries, pita, tahini, hummus and tzatziki, served with her own Greek salad. She commented that the falafel were a bit dry. Bonnie and went to Stephen's Grill in Camarillo yesterday around 4:30 in the afternoon and Sat at the bar. The restaurant has lots of full and half booths and there are live plants and flowers, and the walls are decorated with murals of Mediterranean landscapes. Our bartender Jenny was fantastic and made our drinks to perfection. I really liked their glasses, Bonnie had a pomegranate martini, and I had my standard dirty martini. Now for the food. we are familiar with the location in Ventura, and the Camarillo location has what they serve and more. The Camarillo location has more emphasis on the Grill section of their menu. We ordered the Dolmades with meat; the picture we uploaded of them was after we had eaten half of it. The reason I mention that is because it had plenty of Pita bread and Tzatziki sauce served with the Dolmades and there were 6 of them. They were perfect, we loved the lemon dill sauce. We also ordered the Lucas Special which comes with Chicken Souvlaki, Gyro meat and your choice of side and a Greek salad or soup. The Chicken was cooked perfectly and so was the Gyro meat. I like the Chef Kazo sauce that was served with the souvlaki. The traditional souvlaki is olive oil, kosher salt, black pepper, garlic, Greek oregano and lemon. I think he just added smoked paprika to that and maybe a little red wine vinegar. You don't normally see a red souvlaki. We also ordered the Moussaka, which is kind of a Greek lasagna with eggplant substituted for pasta. It was very good and authentic; they nailed the bechamel sauce (white) and the Kima me domata sauce (red) was very flavorful. The portions were huge and we took enough home for another meal. For a newly opened restaurant in Camarillo, this place was operating pretty smooth on Mother's Day. They did not have my reservation for 6 even though I made it via phone a week beforehand. But we were quickly taken care of and the manager put a table together for us. For Sunday, brunch buffet is the only option. I liked the selection of food because it allowed us to sample many brunch items for $30, but the $30 price tag is steep if you have children that don't eat much (no children price) and drinks were not included (except for water and coffee). The ambiance is higher end restaurant with wine glasses on every table, but it stilled felt like the old Souplantation inside due to a lot of noise in an open dining room concept. The buffet area was also very small and cramped, despite its many offerings. We probably won't return to Sunday Brunch since our daughters won't enjoy it much and plan to visit again for lunch or dinner to experience their normal menu. read more

We have loved Stephen's in Ventura for years. So excited to have them in Camarillo! Well. Not. Higher prices, smaller portions: $17 for a (small!) child's plate of macaroni and cheese. No side veggies, no fries or chips, no drink. Outrageous! $27 for a Chicken Gyro Plate. Smaller than an appetizer plate, but twice the price! We stopped by this new Greek restaurant on their opening day. The food did take a little longer than expected, but that's understandable for day one while they're getting into the flow. The food was really good, and flavorful, and definitely worth the wait. I'm so glad we finally have a great Greek spot nearby and don't have to drive all the way to Ventura anymore. Stopped by Stephen's with my family on a Saturday night. Despite the restaurant seeming to be slow it took 20 to 30 minutes it receive fountain drinks and even more considerable amount of time to receive our food and when it did arrive the shrimp on one of the plates was still raw. The service itself is just fine but unfortunately it seems like our server was scrambling while what appeared to be the owners just continued to stroll around and talk to tables. Definitely think the staff could use some more help. Owners definitely need to change something at this spot, I was excited to hear about a Greek spot opening up in the neighborhood but this didn't hit the mark. I've always heard that you should NEVER go to a restaurant that just opened, but when this is Stephens second location, and I enjoy Greek food, so I stopped in on my way from home from work and ordered 2 gyros to take home for dinner. The interior of the place is gorgeous, but I did wonder why there were pictures on the wall of an Italian restaurant? The drive home was less than 5 minutes, and I was shocked at the horrible quality of the food! For $22 - the fries were SOGGY and cold, the Gyro was wrapped in tin foil, looked like a small burrito - the lamb slices, what there were of them... maybe 3 or 4 were COLD and lacked any kind of seasoning. The pita smelled of preservatives so I knew it wasn't freshly made and also very small and soggy. Maybe in time the quality will improve, but for my money there are much better choices in Camarillo including the one inside the Village Mark located on Las Posas. read more

My husband and I just went to Stephen's Grill in Camarillo. We arrived about 6 and didn't have a problem getting a table . They take reservations for parties over 6 . I had a gin martini and my husband had a double gin and tonic . Our waitress , who also bartends , Christi , was very attentive and accommodating. Both drinks were very good . We ate the Dolmades with ground lamb appetizer and it was very delicious accompanied with a gravy type sauce and Chef Kazo's special sauce. I could easily serve 3 people generously. My husband had the rack of lamb with Greek rice and I had the grilled lamb chops with roasted potatoes. Both dishes were very yummy . Our dinners also came with a choice of Greek salad or Caesar salad. I had the Greek salad and my husband had the Caesar . We ordered a bottle of the Crossbarn Pinot noir from the Sonoma Valley . It tasted great with our food .The lettuces were very crisp and the salads were unusually plentiful for a dinner salad. We ended the meal with their Baklava, which their Chef Kazo made . Came here today for brunch on Mother's Day, and it was beyond delicious, especially for the price. Everything we had was exceptional. I started with some sides like the creamy green pasta, shrimp cocktail, lox on a baguette, sautéed carrots, and a zucchini dish that I couldn't get enough of. Then you meet Javier, who greets you with a smile and carves the best prime rib, complete with au jus. There's also a build your own Greek salad station, several soups (the lentil was my favorite), the crispiest bacon I've ever had, flavorful sausages, and perfectly seasoned potatoes. Another table featured eggs Benedict, different egg scrambles, and Pastitsio. A Greek style lasagna that was surprisingly light and absolutely delicious. And of course, you can't forget the pastry table at the end. Everything looked amazing and tasted just as good. What really stood out was the atmosphere and service. Our server, Lindsey, was incredibly nice, and honestly, everyone we encountered was welcoming. One of the managers, John, was greeting guests and shaking hands, which made the experience feel extra personal. Before leaving, we took some baklava to go, and it was hands down the best baklava I've ever had. we went there for lunch. It was fabulous. sorry no pictures..we were with an 18 month old in a highchair. Being a transplant from New England where we eat a lot of lamb, it was so great to have lamb dishes on any menu! I had the lammb kabobs...they were perfectly seasoned and cooked. Roast lamb is also on the menu They came with roasted potatoes...also wonderfully seasoned and delicious, and a side of Greek or Cesar salad. We also had a Gyro plate that came with fries nd a Greek salad. shared some dolmas too. Everything was delicious and very large portions. I took home half of my kabobs and potatoes for dinner. the staff was friendly and really nice. The baby eats what we eat and there was plenty! The restaurant is large and well done. If I could give less I would. The quality of the food and the service were just awful. The gyro plate came out and all four of us had to return the meal because the meat was petrified tree bark. It looked and felt like really hardened beef jerky. They took all the plates back to the kitchen then brought them back out and eventually serving fresh side plates of new meat that was an improvement. Nonetheless, the fact they would even try to pass off the original meals to us is a sign of poor judgement and cheapness. The other two at our table had lamb and chicken complained of dry, unflavorful food. Very little pita was included in the meal. The waiter said the owner would not split our meals so we could pay separately because he did not want to pay the credit card fees. The least expensive meal we ordered for lunch was $24. Not an inexpensive restaurant. This place is out of business in six months or less. read more
