I was starving after a 3-hour volunteer activity and looked up restaurants nearby on Yelp. I selected Mama's Kabab and loved the food! Everything was very fresh and obviously homemade - it looks to me to be run by a husband and wife. The lentil soup was excellent as was the falafel and dolmades. The best part (here comes my sweet tooth) was at the end when the owner came by and gave me an my friends complimentary baklava. It was fantastic. I wish that I lived closer by. This place certainly shines a positive light upon Armenian culture, which has suffered from a great deal of stigma and negative stereotypes in the West. The hummus. Grade AA quality you can tell by the dense and rich texture they don't skimp out by adding fillers. Baba Ganouj. Exceptionally unique. Their version does not have any tahini in it(which is common) but instead is a zestier take. The medium is both tart and savory which contrast the smoked eggplant delightfully. The shwarma. Nothing to write home about, I would say its sub-par for American Mediterranean food but above-par for OC Mediterranean. Get the lamb shank or kofta kebab instead. Lamb Shank is a must get. Its slow cooked to perfection till the meat is practically off the bone then finished off with a dusting of exotic spices. Kibeh. As far as kibeh goes this is a pretty standard dish. Deep fried dumplings stuffed with meat and pine nuts you either like it or hate it. Overall service is fine. read more

I was visiting friends in Buena Park and they Googled and found Mama's Kabab. I was not expecting anything when we walked in. Nondescript decor and you order at the counter. BUT THIS IS A GREAT FIND! Everything is made to order from scratch. It is all delicious, fresh and beautifully cooked and prepared. My chicken kebab was juicy and came with perfectly cooked rice, grilled veggies and a basket of warm pita bread, pickled turnips and pickle slices.I asked if I could get a little cup of the cucumber and yogurt dip (they call it something else there-something like "Dja...." and it's the BEST version of this dip I've ever had anywhere. The Baklava is house-made too and is excellent. Wonderful friendly owner and his wife does all the cooking. I wish this place was closer to me. I'm in Brentwood. Tried Mama's for the first time and was very pleased with the quality of food. I ordered the Chicken Swarma wrap and my husband ordered the Lamp Platter that came with rice and salad. He said it was the best lamb that he ever as soon as he took his first bite. I tried my wrap and I felt the same way but one flavor was missing. The garlic sauce! They forgot to get the order ready after I had called in a phone order, so I had to wait. I had asked to pay for 3 more pieces of pita bread, they mentioned it was 75 cents. I didn't have cash for it after already paying for my meal, so they shut me down on the debit card (I get it, merchant fees suck). But if my return business isn't worth losing a few cents in credit card processing fees over some pita bread, so be it. They didn't feel obligated to even slightly try to make up for messing up in the first place. I have a business of my own, and I would NEVER treat people this way. Dry personality on both people behind the counter. Sorry for making you get up on your relaxing afternoon at 4pm when there was no business going on at the time. My bad. I'm never ever coming back. I ate here last night with my parents and boyfriend. It was the first time for all of us except for my dad, who had previously ordered the combo platter for takeout (which he said is very good for trying different things out for the first time). This time, my dad ordered the lamb shank plate. He let all of us try some: it was so flavorful and tender! My dad practically licked his plate clean. My mom got Mama's salad (how fitting!) which consisted of romaine lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, and olives. She also requested feta cheese on top. It was a good-sized yet light salad but had a little too much dressing for our taste. Maybe ask for the dressing on the side? My boyfriend got the beef kabab, which he liked a lot. I got the beef shawourma. It was good, but probably better in "sandwich" form. We also shared an order of pita bread and hummus as well as a plate of baklava for dessert. Both amazing!
