Original review: I am South Asian myself, but I was not overwhelmed by the food. I felt like it was just fine. I could've cooked it at home. I probably will not be returning, but it wasn't bad. I think non-south Asians would really like it. Edit: I was going to delete my review, but I got a private message from the owner with a ton of attitude, asking me to take this down, but I don't feel like that's ethical. I don't think three stars is bad. So just to restate. The food is not bad. But I'm not going to take this review down because I don't feel like it's appropriate for the owner to message you privately with an attitude and try to strong-arm you into taking down the review. I have left plenty of reviews about restaurants in Little India, and not once as anybody messaged me with the tone that you have used with me. So I'm leaving it up. Live and learn. Edit: I got a notification that the owner continued to add to her comment, so to answer her questions, I don't remember what I got because it was several months ago, but I remember that it was just okay. Just picked up dinner here tonight - this is still one of my favorite local spots! I'm a junkie for the butter chicken and sometimes I'll try something new. They're always warm and welcoming, the food is always well prepared, the quality consistently high. My wife is more adventurous and has been trying out some vegan dishes. This spot has delicious Indian comfort food with a variety of options including healthy vegan options. The portions are really big and hearty as well. The chef was super nice and even allowed us to try a few samples before purchase. There's a small table for sit down meal but seems like many people order take out. The food comes out hot and fresh and quickly. The cabbage masala was delicious and had a yummy savory tomato flavor. I am so disappointed to be writing this review since the staff was so friendly and kind, but my partner and I got the worst food poisoning of our entire life eating here. We both ate the butter chicken, rice and naan and simultaneously woke up at 2am sick to our stomachs, which lasted until 7am this morning and had to take the whole day off of work today. Fever, chills, diarrhea, vomiting, the whole 9. Hoping this review will make the restaurant take better care of the food since it is so delicious, but definitely not up to health code standard. read more

We didn't get one of the entrees we ordered so my partner drove back. What a hidden gem, hiding under my nose for almost a year before I realized what wonders were awaiting within! :) AniKri is a small family owned and operated Indian takeout restaurant, with wonderful Mrs. Sangeetha at the helm creating fresh authentic South Indian recipes each day! From Butter Chicken (both my kids love it), to Lamb Korma (I really enjoyed this one, bone-in, but that's where the flavor and tenderness hides), along with many vegetarian dishes as well - their cauliflower and peas masala was so tasty and flavorful! If you haven't been here yet then you really owe it to yourself to stop in. Even more so if you're new to Indian cuisine as this is the perfect family friendly environment to test the waters in. When my brought my son in the last time they were more than happy to let him try samples of everything they were offering that day to help him select what he liked the most. It may have created a monster though, as he woke up and had the remaining Butter Chicken for breakfast before school. ;) We will certainly be returning, and I hope to see you there as well. :) read more

I'm so glad I found this spot during my annual trip OC! They serve some of the best Indian food with a focused menu that rotates every day, giving you reason to come back over and over to try everything that they offer. Not sure what you want? Chef Sangeetha makes you feel welcome as soon as you enter the store, offering samples to any new face that walks in or anyone who seems unsure of what they'd like to order. It's clear that she has a lot of pride in what she puts out. All recipes are her own/are passed down from her family and the taste & quality speaks for itself. On my first visit, my partner and I dined in for lunch on a Sunday and got two lunch plates; the food was so good that we were tempted to take an a-la-carte order of curry to-go even though I had planned an extensive food list for the rest of my trip. While I managed to hold off the first time, we actually came back a few days later craving some more Butter Chicken which rotated back onto the menu later in the week on Friday LOL. When we came in on Friday around 4:00 PM we saw a tent and seats setup outside the store front. Curious, we asked Chef Sangeetha if there had just been a catering event or a party that happened. That's when we learned that they sometimes host live cooking events of Friday nights from 5:30 PM - 10:00 PM where a chef will cook a rotating dish to-order right in front of you. That night, they were hosting an event and serving Kothu Parotta with veg/egg/chicken options, something I or my partner had never seen or heard of before but our interest was piqued. We decided to leave and came back around 6:00 PM for the live event and are so glad we made that decision. The Chicken Kothu Parotta was unlike any other Indian dish we had had before. It had addictive texture, almost risotto like, along with a strong fragrance and burst of flavors from the smoky wok hei, freshness from herbs, spices, raw onions, & tomatoes, and bright raita. All the flavors danced together in harmony. I encourage everyone to stop by and support this small business, especially during their live event nights. Follow their IG to see when these are happening and what the featured dish of the evening is. If you attend, come early before the line forms. Since each dish is cooked live and made to order it can get quite busy once the aunties and uncles come around, which we started to see around 6:30 PM. This place is for sure a hidden gem. My husband and I tried it for the first time today and we were so impressed. We both love Indian food and usually drive to the Cerritos "Little India" area when we're craving it, but this place is honestly awesome and I'm so glad we tried it. The food was fresh, flavorful. It is different from the Indian food we normally get (in the best way). I've never had this type/style of Indian food before. I ordered the Okra Masala and it was so good. They also have a rotating menu, which makes me even more excited to come back and try more dishes. On top of that, the restaurant is super clean, and the owner is incredibly sweet and welcoming. I have a new place to add to my rotation of favorite spots in Cypress! Brought my parents and we really enjoyed our experience. I only comment on service if it's outstanding or terrible because food is my main focus, but AniKri had excellent service. The woman who took our order (who I believe is the owner) warmly greeted us and explained the menu items of the day. She even offered us samples, which helped my mom choose a dish that was the right spice level for her. My dad loves goat but it wasn't on the menu, so she let us know we can find the specials online. My dad and I both ordered the lamb and veggie plate special (my dad got lentils and I got the veggie korma). My mom ended up getting the chicken stew she tried as a sample as a bowl. We also all got samosas. One thing I really loved is how they are very enthusiastic about explaining their dishes and helping customers find something they would like without compromising their flavors. The lamb was a bit spicy for my mom, but they explained it wouldn't be the same dish without the heat. They also explained how they do bone in lamb for more flavor. We all ended up loving our dishes. Everything was spiced to perfection and had a very homey taste. You could see them prepping the ingredients in the background so you knew it was fresh. A few notes to keep in mind: -As mentioned above, they really care about the integrity and flavor of their dishes. Just keep in mind that you will not be able to adjust the flavor/spice levels so it's good if you're flexible. -My mom has a low spice tolerance, so some things were a little spicy for her but the chicken stew was. I LOVE spicy food and the lamb had a slight glow but was more spiced than spicy to me. I feel like most people with an average spice tolerance will be fine, but if you have a low spice tolerance, you might find some things spicy. -The menu rotates every day so check out their website for the daily specials. -Most people seem to do takeout but there are two small tables. -No public bathroom Overall, really glad there is a South Indian option in Cypress now. Always been wanting to try this place as it's about a mile from me. Having this place down the street makes getting Indian food a lot easier instead of driving to Artesia for takeout. The owner was helpful and the place was really clean. Not only was there hot fresh food, but various market items. She gave samples and said everything is made with organic products. South Indian here and I have to say -- Anikri Foods in Cypress (LB-adjacent) is the real deal for very traditional regional South Indian cuisine. It's very different than north Indian and what you'll find at any of the restaurants in Long Beach. Please show Anikri Foods some love -- support a local, woman-owned, immigrant-owned small business serving up the most delicious traditional South Indian food I've tasted in SoCal. But the food is just part of what makes this place special- Today, I brought my four kids in for lunch and had the complete pleasure of meeting the owner and chef, Sangeetha. Sangeetha radiates warmth and strength, and since I'm nosy and don't meet other South Indians often we became quick friends. Once I heard her story, I couldn't stop thinking about it, I knew I had to share it. Sangeetha, is a shining example of resilience and heart -- a single mom, widow, and South Indian woman who is truly living the American dream through sheer grit, talent, and love. She was once a brilliant biochemist, living what she described as "a golden life" here in the U.S. with her husband and two sons. But 8 years ago, her husband was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer. For 5 years she juggled full-time work, caretaking, and parenting. Three years ago, he passed away -- and she found herself alone in a foreign country with two children to raise. Returning to India wasn't an option -- the life of a widow there would have been unbearable. So she stayed. After one particularly hard day at work, missing her husband and kids, she had a moment of clarity: she would pour her grief, strength, and love into her side hustle -- cooking for her local community. She quit her job and went all in on her dream. Here's what we tried: Goat Curry - My personal favorite. Deeply flavorful, tender meat that melts in your mouth. Shrimp Masala - My 5-year-old couldn't stop eating this! It's spicy, tangy, and packed with curry leaf goodness. Heck yes! I love Indian food, I've been a fan for many years, But I thought I had to go to Little India near Cerritos/Artesia for some good Indian food. I've been looking for a place I could go to get my Indian food fix. Sangeetha is awesome. Super friendly, and she specializes in south India dishes but she has a different experience every day. So you know she's sharing the love from home. I had the goat and chicken curry with rice and Garlic Naan I took one bite the the next thing I realized was I sucked it down. Spices and herbs were perfect. I'm definitely going to go back for more and excited I found this place close to home it's a definite must try. It's a small takeout restaurant with minimal seating, featuring an open kitchen where you can catch a glimpse of the cooking process. The owner is incredibly sweet and greeted me warmly when I walked in. She seemed very knowledgeable about the menu and offered some great recommendations. I tried the Manchurian and pepper chicken--both were perfectly spiced and full of flavor. While I typically eat mild food and avoid overly spicy dishes, these reminded me of comforting homemade meals. The chicken was moist and flavorful, and the Manchurian was crispy without being greasy. The curries had a bit of oil, but noticeably less than what I've seen at other restaurants. I'd definitely visit again, and if you enjoy flavorful food with a well-balanced spice level, I highly recommend giving them a try. I visited AniKri tonight and I thoroughly enjoyed my selection. I am a vegan and cannot tolerate spicy food. The chef/owner was nice to offer a sample of both vegan entree options, telling me in advance which was more spicy. I decided that I liked both and ordered a 2-item veggie plate (mixed veg dal & black eyed peas masala). I also ordered the samosa and dal vada, both of which I enjoyed. She also alerted me that the naan was not vegan, however the homemade roti is--the roti was fantastic.
