I came back here after 10+ years and they now have new owners. The food is chef's kiss. Being Peruvian, it's hard to find a Peruvian restaurant that truly has great-tasting food. My family and I came for Easter today, and we were not disappointed. Their freshly made chicha morada was so refreshing. The quality of the rice and the flavors in the chaufa, lomo saltado, pan con chicharrón, and tallarín saltado were all so well put together. We're in the middle of the hottest week and there's simply no reason to stand over a hot stove making anything right now. The restaurant is on the smaller side with the kitchen within sight. Friendly staff welcomed us, and asked if it was our first time, which it was. As usual, I wanted to try a variety of dishes: Trio of appetizers pequeo included fish ceviche, crispy fried squid calamari and potatoes in cheesy sauce. Trio of empanada (we got two chicken and one beef) piping hot and juicy delicious fillings , accompanied by a very spicy sauce. Tallarin verde (green sauced spaghetti) is topped by a thinly breaded steak that was cooked well done, still tender and quite tasty. Suitable for the child with us. The aji de gallina dish is served with a generous scoop of rice : sliced chicken breast in a slightly spicy huancaina cheesy sauce. Peruvian tamal was delicious and had shredded chicken in the masa. It must be cooked in a tomato sauce because it wasn't the usual yellow corn color. Would gladly come back. But be advised Airconditioning was not working and the sun was beating down hot through the glass windows. The curtains were drawn closed. I had seen the tik toks and reels on this location so I took a chance & made a reservation for Easter breakfast/brunch for our family, did not disappoint at all! Service was fantastic, they were both attentive and nice as can be, no issues with splitting a big group bill either which is always a plus, food was DELICIOUS everyone had nothing but great things to say on the taste and quantity. I would like to see the kids food expanded to maybe add tallarin verde or something else besides salchipapas but my kids still loved it. There are other restaurants in the area that have forgotten that Peruvian food is a mixture of great flavors and authenticity, I can confidently say we found our new O.C. The meat was overcooked to the point of being crispy, and the dish lacked a good balance of vegetables. The fries were slightly overdone as well, and the rice tasted stale. Saltado de Mariscos is one of my favorite dishes, I'd say in the top five. Found a Peruvian restaurant a few miles away and went to check it out. Started with papa a la huancaina, the cheesy sauce was perfect. My son loved the lomo saltado. I ended up getting shrimp only instead of mariscos (seafood mix) and I was so disappointed, the shrimp was over-cooked and rubbery. The server was so nice so I didn't want to complain. I was in the mood for Peruvian food, so decided to check out Chicama. The restaurant is located in a small strip mall with a small parking lot. The restaurant was smaller than I expected, but not busy when I went so it was cozy. The menu was fairly large, with lots of fun photos of their dishes on the wall as well. I ordered a Piqueo Chicama (appetizer sampler), chicken aguadito (small cilantro chicken soup), and cau cau (a tripe dish). The calamari in the appetizer was fried really well and was nice and crispy, though I did wish they had a few more leg pieces (not just body, though that's just personal preference). I swapped out yucca for the potato, and when they originally brought out potato, they realized the mistake and quickly replaced with yucca. The huancaína sauce was divine. The fish in the ceviche was a bit chewy, and the cau cau tripe was a bit fishy (tripe is hard to prepare). I also felt like the steamed rice was a bit hard. The soup was piping hot though, and a good-sized portion for "small." The ají verde (green sauce) was also very good. I considered getting chicha morada to drink, but since it was bottled instead of made in-house, I opted for the fresh lulo juice, which was excellent! Lulo can be hard to come by. Overall, service was friendly and attentive, and the food was pretty good. read more

Ordered take out from this place, place that we been ordering from over 10yrs when needing a peruvian fix. It was very clear this time that they have no real pride in what they put out. He charged extra $ for it. The chicken was perfect. Moist and you can taste all the spices it was marinated in. The salad dressing is also delicious same with the cilantro rice. I spotted this gem of a restaurant a while back and, despite its "hole-in-a-wall" appearance, I found it to be an excellent venue, especially since I had an itch for Ahi de Gallina, which another Peruvian restaurant up the street does not serve. Don't be off-put by it's location either; your taste buds will never regret what they'll never know/taste.... Even though we arrived here about half an hour before closing, the staff welcomed us with a smile! The service was friendly and quick! I found the Ahi de Gallina to be delicious, although the yellow sauce seemed a bit too salty. I also tried my wife's Lomo Saltado, which I found to be very flavorful! The only problem I have with this restaurant is what to order the next time I visit: will it be the Lomo Saltado, Chaufas, Pan con Chicharones, or the Lomo Saltacos? This place has such polarizing reviews, I was a bit nervous to eat here. So is it a 1 star restaurant or a 5 star restaurant? Honestly, I think it's as good as a small hole-in-the-wall restaurant can get. For context, I came as part of a party of 7 on a a Saturday evening. We called in advance as a courtesy but the restaurant was empty when we arrived. And maybe that worked out, because the restaurant is quite small and we took up most of its space. PROS: From my experience, the food was flavorful, freshly prepared, and the service was great. The restaurant is also walking distance from Stanton Central Park, which is a delightful spot to visit. The pictures of food on the wall and restaurant merch (which included mugs, shirts, and keychains) were quite charming. CONS: Personally I have no complaints, but just to set clear expectations: it's a small restaurant seemingly operated by two people, a server and a chef. Naturally the food took a while to come out, and it didn't come out all at once like a big fancy restaurant. Our group was totally fine with that, but I just wanted to make it clear for those who expect instant service. Our table ordered arroz con mariscos (both a regular and picante version which came with a spicy gravy), pesto pastas (chicken and steak), the half chicken, cilantro stew, and a fried fish. Aside from water and soda, we got maracuya (passion fruit drink), Inka Cola (which tastes like liquid bubblegum), and a fruit juice. Everyone seemed to enjoy their food. I loved my arroz con mariscos, especially with a bit of that delicious spicy green sauce. I also really appreciated that the service really was as good as it could have been with such a small staff. The chef (who I could actually watch from my seat) did an amazing job cooking 7 dishes and getting most of them out at the same time. There aren't many places I've had actual good lomo/pollo saltado besides from Caveman Kitchen in LA (my all time favorite to get saltados) but I was craving it and I now live in OC so Chicama was the closest place that had it where it actually looked good so I came and tried it. Definitely was not disappointed, and for the price, it's well worth it (as well as the 20 minute drive too). I ordered the pollo saltado as well as tried the chicken empanadas which were very good as well. For less than $15 each for the lomo & pollo saltado, the portion is good. I would recommend coming here, their menu has lots of other choices too but personally I just came for the saltado.
