This is one of those places that you really want to gatekeep because once everyone finds out how cool it is the charm wears off. It's a downstairs bar with art deco and speakeasy vibes. Picture dark moody lighting with gold and green accents and pinkish colored curtains at the booths. If I lived closer this would be my go to spot. They have a full bar so you can get pretty much whatever you want. They have a few speciality cocktails but most of them were made with gin, not my fav. The drinks during happy hour were really reasonable and the food was priced similar to other restaurants in the area. I had a ham and cheese panini with the pilsner and both were pretty good. The bartender was really nice and made the whole experience easy and enjoyable. Also jello shots for $2. Can't go wrong there! read more

Mame is a relaxed, understated place to enjoy drinks, quality food, and time with friends. For me, the standout was goat cheese, rolled in black pepper, served with olive oil, garlic, sliced baguette, and olives. It's one of those things that's going to interfere with exploring other things on the menu. Finding elegant comfort food in a low key basement space is delightful. Mame bar is a gem. You go downstairs to a Cute speakeasy vibe! Clean inside and has such a cool atmosphere. Bartender was very friendly and helpful, even after a long day. They had an event they were part of earlier and we came when it had wound down. We ordered a "Once in a Blue Moon" based on other Yelpers reviews and it was delish and "I'm your huckleberry" and it was light, fruity and refreshing. They had leftover Jell-O shots from the event with pop rocks and had to try that! It was good, loved the addition of the pop rocks. Last drink of the night was "Oaxacan on Broken Glass" and it was perfectly blended with a hint of the smoke from the Mezcal. Bartender was a great mixologist! Will definitely come back when in Portland! read more

A cool underground bar below Hazel Room. The inside is modern and moody with black an green decors. The seating layout is a bit awkward though with a few large booth tables and bar seatings. Hard for a small group to feel comfortable taking up a lot of space. Bartenders were friendly and efficient. Drinks are reasonably priced and they had very tasty paninis. This was a very chill place to stop in. The dim lit place is cozy and feels very upscale but they had very fair prices. The bar was mostly empty when I was there but we were Informed a dj was going to be playing later that evening. The bar tender was very kind and welcoming. The service and inventive cocktail are fabulous. The bar food (particularly the soups) is a cut above the standard. The location, in the basement of a converted house on Hawthorne is beautifully and has tbe cozy feel of a 1920s speakeasy. I highly recommend it! read more

Just popped in for the first time, unfortunately did not have my phone. .Gorgeous bar from ceiling to floor, including the bathrooms! Service is impeccable, and those drinks! We had the Pretty in Pink which is very refreshing and full of beautiful, pink glitter. For mezcal fans the Oaxacan cocktail is a must, the tajin rim blended with the mezcal is delicious. Best semi-hidden gem on Hawthorne! Low lit and beautifully dressed. Great spot for a date night or solo hang, too!
