Stopped in at Space Room Lounge. They have a parking lot in the back of their establishment with a few parking spaces. Minors are allowed in until 3pm, but they can't go to the bar to place orders, so when I ordered our sodas, I had to make two trips to carry them back to the table. I was told the wait was 45 minutes for the sandwich week Banh Mi, but it turned out to be an hour and a half....an hour and a half for 4 sandwiches. The theme is pretty cool, the bartender was okay, and it was questionable about how clean the establishment is. The Banh Mi was good, but not good enough to wait 1.5 hours. I probably wouldn't go back, at least not with my kids. The bartender was talking about doing d*ugs very loudly. I don't recommend this place for children...maybe not even adults. read more

This place has always been kind of dingy but the fishbowls have been fun in the past. Service isn't the greatest and the bathrooms are a little scary. We were nearby for burger week which is the reason for my recent visit. Hadn't been there in a long time and doesn't look like anything changed. Facing a long-ass line of mostly polite but occasionally dumbfounded (me) customers waiting to get to the bar (I know, who waits in line at a BAR?! Portland is so annoying sometimes), and still they handled it with grace and efficiency. Anyway, with that out of the way, it's basically a dive bar with an odd layout -- it looks big from the outside but there's limited seating inside, up front, and a waaaaay too small bar in the back. On the other side there a fairly big game room with pinball and other arcade games, and on the other OTHER side is a giant covered patio/outdoor area (that's great but there's no bar out here; you have to go inside and stand in that bizarre line). Not a bad joint, not great, prices are reasonable and food looks like standard issue bar fare, and pretty big portions. I'm just not down with the whole bar setup. read more

Okay heres the tea in this place. I gave it two attempts and the first time it was a drag brunch and the dude was RUDE. I actually think they're joking and it's apart of the gimmick because there's no way they hate themselves THIS MUCH. The curly hair girl literally was so rude I just walked away. But the guy during the first encounter was just as equally as miserable and I was able to get a picture of him. But honestly, that girl was giving jealous so me and my husband dipped. What a trip down memory lane! I visited Space Room Lounge tonight with some friends from out of town. Very little has changed in the ambiance in this longstanding community favorite hangout on Hawthorne. The alien-inspired, blue light enhanced murals and artwork still dominate the space, but the inclusion of the game area and expansive outdoor seating really elevate the overall experience. I think the highest praise for a restaurant comes in the form of long-term community support, and the community comes out in droves to continue supporting Space Room Lounge. The place was packed on a Wednesday night, full of happy and energetic customers who all seemed to be having an amazing time. This is a really positive place to visit! (I have a theory it might be due to their very stiff drinks! They certainly don't cut corners in that department!) The main entrance is on Hawthorne, but there is a dedicated parking lot around back. If the lot is full, don't fret. Folks can generally find street parking, although you may need to venture out a few blocks in this busy neighborhood. read more

UNTIL some couple who doesn't mind ruining their - and everyone else's around them - hearing with a game of ear-splitting, migraine inducing air hockey. I'm sure the reason they don't place the air hockey table outside is because anyone living in the neighborhood would complain. Put it in a room with nothing but acoustics, and you will be so goddamn angry you even went to this place to play pinball. You will wish for all your money back, but won't complain (because you're a nice person). Do not come for the pinball. Or if you do, pay for an air hockey game just so you can hide the puck. It's so, so awful, and everyone I've talked to who has played pinball there agrees. It's a great place for the deaf community to play some games. Air hockey is $1.00 per play, most pinball games are $0.75 or $1.00 per play. There is one air hockey table and several pinball machines. Way to drive away revenue. read more

What an interesting place. The art on the walls is definitely unique and nice to look at. Plenty of video lottery terminals for playing machines and a pretty decent happy hour. I got the happy hour nachos for $7.50 which is an amazing value these days. It was pretty standard nacho cheese and chips with some jalepenos and black beans. I've been here a good amount, they host Bridgetown Trivia on Thursday nights outside. They bring a lot of people in for Trivia, so my review is only based on Thursday nights, your MMV depending on the night. The pros: The food is really good. Far better than almost any bar I've been to, they have a wide variety of options, and they have a couple weekly specials that are typically must try for a couple of us on our team. They have Bridgetown Trivia, which is the best trivia in town. They also have a ton of seating, which is nice, including a large patio area outside that is covered and is really nice to eat at on a nice day. Cons: most of these are minor, but some bigger than others. Parking is difficult, and some of my team members had issues parking in certain areas at night. The bar wait times are long, there is no table service, and you can count on waiting 5-10 mins to place an order, and to pay at the end of the night. The smoking outside. Most nights it feels like every person, in portland, who smokes, is at Space Room. And not casual smokers. Chain smoking, and because over the cover, it feels like the smoke lingers. It became one of the biggest factors in us playing somewhere else. Also, the cover started to become leaky this fall and we had noticed ourselves getting wet. Neutral: The staff. Some are friendly, some seem like they DGAF, some would appear to have a slight disdain for customers. Overall, kind of a bummer. This is one of the tougher places to play trivia, the competition is stiff, and this was the food place we looked forward to every week and it was nice to play against a lot of teams, but the smoke, parking and not being covered from the elements led us to find a new spot. read more

Not sure what the name is on the menu because this is a late post, but absolute fire. Really hit the spot. Almost gave it 3 stars, but just couldn't justify it. Do not go on busy nights (Fri, Sat, & somewhat Tues). No table service & the QR code doesn't work. So you have to go to the bar. They have 2 bartenders but it's still a good 30 minutes in line to get a drink. If you're smart, order 2 drinks. It's tiny inside, but a huge patio outside. Probably 20 tables. And it's all a smoking area. And since it's all under 1 tent, with very little free air flow, everyone gets to smell the smoke. The tacos I got were the Tues special of $1 each. What can I say about probably my favorite place in Portland? The love of my life has been taking me here regularly since we met, and I just think about all the wonderful memories I've had with her here. The food is always great, my go to is a few of the pork tacos with whatever soup of the day they have, and they have not missed once. She always gets the Mac and cheese with fried chicken and is obsessed. We've been obsessed with going to drag bingo on Tuesdays every chance we get, and I had to "lip sync for my life" at the last one and had a blast. The drinks are usually always pretty good as well, I normally get beer, but I've mixed it up and got bloody Mary's and their jalapeño mango tequila in a margarita and both were awesome. I'm actually super bummed to be writing this review. This year, I decided to choose this place for my 27th birthday celebration. I invited about 18 people because I knew the big outdoor patio would accommodate us all and be spacious! My partner and I arrive and head inside to meet my best friend who wants to order me a drink, so we head up to the bar. Now mind you all of my friends are all already outside waiting for me to come out, on my birthday. First off, the bartender demands to see all 3 of our IDs. Ok yeah, it's a bar. Just felt... abrupt. She gets to my partners ID, who just got it FINALLY renewed (after 5 separate trips to the DMV due to insane wait times, no available appointments, and inaccurate information given, so it was an exciting moment for us that they finally had it) and who currently only has the paper copy the DMV gives you to use while they wait for the real one in the mail. She won't accept it. My partner and I are both really confused. We literally used it the day before after they got it at a bar AND a dispensary. It has the barcode on the back printed, it literally scans. We're scrambling and as my partner starts looking up the rules and regulations of this stuff, I try to explain to her that it's my birthday. I have 18 people waiting outside for me. We literally just used it elsewhere. It's what they give you to use in the meantime???? Like literally the government gives it to you for that reason? She says they don't have a scanner to scan the barcode, and that without the old 3-hole punched ID given back to us from the DMV, she cannot accept it. They didn't even GIVE us his old ID back with a punch in it. I'm begging/talking, very confused and scrambling as I've just arrived, it's my birthday, and I have a bunch of people who took the time and effort to come out waiting for me. She claims I'm arguing in the rudest way and I explain I'm just trying to talk this out with her and get her to understand where we were coming from. Doesn't matter. Ok fine, literally whatever you can't accept the ID, we don't say anything rude or mean to her, we're just kind of standing a little away from the bar 30 seconds later as I'm scrambling with my best friend and partner to figure out what to do, and she literally won't even let us stand inside for 2 minutes and talk and figure out a plan. She also won't even let him or us sit outside on the patio to talk to my friends to figure out a plan. Oh and it's freezing outside. Like she literally will not let my partner even stand inside for a few minutes, he has to leave. OH, and apparently? I have to leave, too. Even though my ID is fine and I have an entire table out back. So we literally just have to leave. This all happened from start to finish in less than 10 minutes, quick. I then have to stand outside of the establishment while my best friend tries to rally up all my people and find a different location to go to and how to get there, etc, while my partner cries on a curb corner halfway down the block. SUPER bummer. What is frustrating about this experience is NOT the fact that they were following the rules, or that the worker was doing her job (I work in the service industry, so I get it), but how it was handled and the complete lack of empathy, and the embarrassment and humiliation we were made to feel without any grace, kindness, patience or understanding. When you first walk in the bar it is super dark. You will walk through a row of video poker machines, then you will see the bar and a couple booth seating areas. If you walk past the bar you'll see a door for the outdoor patio are on your right. The patio is super spacious and has a lot of tables and benches to sit on! They even have a area for corn hole/bean bag toss which I thought was interesting and a fun little outdoor game to play while you are grabbing a couple drinks with friends! FOOD: Happy house food is all $4 a plate! Which is an amazing deal! +Pork Tacos: They come with 3 and even come with avocado slices on the top! SCORED! This was my favorite dish! The pork was delicious and flavorful! Came with a lot of meat on each taco! +Mac & Cheese: Really cheesy and came with bacon pieces inside! This was my second favorite dish! +Cajun tots: The tots were fried perfectly but could use some more Cajun seasoning.....that was lacking a bit. -Mac & Cheese Bites: They looked like mini corn dogs when we first got them! They were fried nicely, but I didn't like the Mac and cheese inside.....tasted weird and it was orange on the inside. -Thai Chicken Wings: I had higher expectations for these.....they were fried really nicely on the outside....but the flavor was lacking....I didn't taste any Thai seasoning.....I only tasted plain chicken...almost like plain boiled chicken...my least favorite dish we got.....it came with 4 wings.....I wish they would had use more seasoning..... Also the outside patio there is no music which I found kinda odd. But overall I did love how their happy hour runs so late, later than most places so you can actually catch it in time if you work 8-5 hours during the weekday. When he rang me up the total wasn't right and I asked what did you ring in? And he says a breakfast burrito and a sandwich, which I replied "oh, I ordered a taco" he starts arguing with me loudly that I didn't while changing my order. While standing there, I noticed food going out and the English muffins and toast didn't look toasted, so I ask him if he could write on the ticket to please toast my English muffin, which he replies "we don't do modifications or substitutions!" The happy hour food menu starts from open to 5pm, if you're in the mood for a snack meal. I like the $2 tacos ...and I'm partial to the marinated pork. There's also chorizo, chicken, and tofu. Upcharge $1 for carne asada. I've tried the Space Balls and liked them but I can't really do deep fried food. My dining buddy lives the fried chicken strips and fries for $8. Holy good breakfast, Batman! I've been wanting to try Genie's for ages, but never wanted to brave the line. Not for your standard breakfast fare, anyway. Enter Genies Too! When me and my posse came in the restaurant at 9:30am (prime brunch hour), the restaurant itself was maybe 2/3 full, and the lounge was completely empty! When we left at 11am, the lounge was still basically empty, and the restaurant had a few tables free. No wait! I really wanted to try the scorpion Bloody Mary, but I knew I would be eating sweet stuff, so next time for sure. So these are the lowlights. Let's get them out of the way first. The Genies Bellini is pure sugar. I love my sparkling breakfast cocktails, but this was like someone added sugar to an already sugary drink. Blech. Now I know, don't order the sweet drinks. It also took 10+ minutes for them to come. This seemed odd because the place was so empty. But the food was great! I tried and shared some blueberry pancakes (which aren't on the weekend menu but they're happy to accomodate), the banana cream French toast, which tasted as great as it sounds, and the piece de resistance, the Monterey omelet. This was stuffed with a ton of shrimp, bacon, tomatoes, Brie, and covered in hollandaise. The breakfast potatoes, with onions and peppers, were great as well. The savory definitely won on the food menu as well. So very, very good. Those three dishes, plus four drinks, and tip cost me and my mate $80 total. That's a lot to spend for breakfast, maybe, but we ordered a bunch of food. Service was friendly and helpful, but they could use another server or two. The food is worth the hype, for sure. This place is not bad if you are looking to grab a drink and chill with some friends. The bar side is usually kept dim with little bright lights hanging on the ceiling. We carne when the was only one worker tending to the bar and also serving on the other side. You order the drinks fron the bar and then just find a place to sit and chill or watch the local sports that's playing. What's also neat about this place is that they have several infused vodka that you can try out. Ther drinks are fairly inexpensive. read more
