I'm newer to the neighborhood and was looking for an affordable hair salon that could cut curly hair well. I had called ahead to see if there was availability and decided to walk in--best decision ever! Sue welcomed me in and made me feel right at home. She gave a quick assessment of my 3B curls, asked me what I wanted, and guided me through the process as she cut, shampooed, conditioned and dried my hair. She was very familiar and experienced in cutting curly hair, and she managed to cut out all my split ends and restore bounce and shine to my hair! She was very professional but approachable so I always felt comfortable. The products she used on my hair were plant-based and smelled good, and I love how my cut turned out! Lasting Impressions has been a godsend during COVID-19. Please support local businesses like Lasting Impressions during this time! Before the pandemic, I got my hair blown out twice a month in Manhattan, where I worked. It was standard procedure in order to maintain the moisture my hair needs given my thin but African American hair texture. I walked past this salon one day and peered in when everything was shutting down in March and Sue welcomed me in and found a spot for me in her appointment books. I got the blowout with the Olaplex and it was exactly what I was looking for. Healthy, shiny hair maintained. When they opened back up, I immediately went back to Lasting Impressions and haven't stopped going since. Sue is careful with you - asks you questions on what your hair goals are and what you are looking for in your service and then delivers every time. This is more so a review of the Brazilian Keratin Treatment rather than a review of the salon. I won't take up much of your time here- it makes my hair hella shiny, but it sucks. My hair acts the same as it would if I just flat ironed it straight and gets poofy just as quickly as humidity. Finally glad that I found a stylist that I can trust. I've been here twice and have been extremely satisfied with the outcome both times thanks to Sade. The first time I went, I got an ombre done (shown in my picture). I expressed to Sade my worry with having an ombre and curly hair as I have seen it in other girls with the same type of hair and just looks bizarre. However, Sade did a wonderful job and my hair looks great straight and natural. The dye she used didn't dry out my hair nor did it cause breakage. The second time around, all I asked Sade to do was to cut off around 4 inches of hair. Although she cut off around 4 inches of hair, my hair doesn't look short or choppy; it still has a lot of length to it. I highly recommend coming to this salon. This review is in regards to their scheduling and time management. I made a Friday 5:15pm appointment at Lasting Impressions. I arrived on time. Sometime around 5:45pm I got my hair washed. I waited and waited. And then I waited some more. By 7:10pm I was still seated on a couch watching my overscheduled stylist work on other clients. She was apologetic, but it was really not an acceptable situation. I'd have preferred she told me she was overbooked before washing my hair. I would have made other plans or just done my hair myself at home rather than waste hours of my time. On the plus side, they have a nice selection of Aveda products available for purchase. read more

So, I'm only going to write a review about Patrick, whom I LOVE! Like legit love. Hence why this is the longest review EVER. I followed Patrick to this salon actually. I was going to Monica's on Washington when he was there, but when he quit, I was with him. Anyway, I have been with Patrick since 2008 -- I had recently cut all my hair off, but still had a perm. The man does a phenomenal wash and wrap. Always compliments. Then as I started to grow out, he and I noticed a little breakage -- my hair is very fine and fragile and perms just weren't working for me... This had been a trend for YEARS. So I went natural. Patrick also works with women transitioning from relaxed to natural and, of course, with those who have completed the transition. He tried all different styles on me -- Rod sets, twist outs, flat ironing. Before I went natural, we had also done wash and wraps (as mentioned) and wash and sets. The only two times that I was ever unhappy with my hair in the last 3 years were once, when I got a wash and set and he did exactly as I requested, but it just didn't come out as expected, and a second time when i got a twist out and it just looked a hot mess. This second time, I told him I didn't like it and he let me come back later that week and did a press for free. I have gotten several of my friends to come to Patrick for weaves (the man can SEW) and one friend actually flew him to MN just to do her and the rest of the bridal party's wedding hair. He has such an extensive skill set (he also does locks, twists, interlocking, keratin, etc.), it's hard to believe that only one person on here has actually gone to see Patrick as opposed to the others that work in the salon. At any rate, I started going less frequently when I started practicing doing my own hair, but I still go to him for my trims, coloring, and I stop in whenever I'm in the area to say hi. Patrick is very pleasant and courteous. He is also not pushy which is how we bonded as I cannot stand when someone ignores me to do whatever they want with my hair for my money. He is a highly skilled stylist. The downsides to Patrick are that 1) Since he's not pushy, sometimes he won't tell you if something won't look good. I think it just requires that you ask him what he thinks, then he'll tell you the truth. 2) He actually works in Florida and Atlanta as well, so he flies out every other week which means that you may not get him when you want him. 3) He get's hella busy and you can be there for hours, though that has not happened to me in about a year. 4) It can be expensive. Based on our longstanding relationship, he still charges me the lower prices that he was when I first started going to him, but his prices have increased since then. I would tell you what they are, but I honestly have no idea. Finally, I cannot speak on the rest of the staff really. It's generally pretty quiet in there when I go -- me patrick and the tv. But sometimes the other women are in there. They've never been anything but nice to me, BUT as a Caribbean woman myself, I realize that sometimes West Indians can come off a bit harsh. At the same time, if you felt offended that's obviously unacceptable customer service. But I don't think Patrick would have been the offender. Long story short, go to Patrick for almost ANYTHING hair related. The man is ill. OH and in terms of making an appt, I have never called the salon. I just text him. But I'm sure you can ask for him specifically when you call. read more

Since this place is right around the corner frm my apt, I really wanted to like this place but no way! the customer service is a joke. When I came in the owner? head stylist? was sitting out on a lawn chair in front of the salon gossiping w/ some random and me approaching them for my appt seemed more like an intrusion. once inside, someone else washed, shampood and flat iron'd me. this stylist burned me more than a few times w/ the iron b/c a few days after leaving the salon, my scalp had scabs on them! as if I got a relaxer and was chemically burned! The first time going to this Salon by reading everyone's posts they really seem to impress, however after repeating a couple more times I started to notice price fluctuating, standards dropping and absolutely no customer loyalty. The salon is absolutely beautiful!! The decor, atmosphere and artwork blow me away. My appointment schedule was right on time, I was offered tea, coffee and water for comfort. The music was at the perfect level and well rounded to enjoy. I had no idea what I wanted done to my natural hair and didn't even know my hair type. My stylist gave me a free consultation and educated me about my own natural hair. She spoke to me and even went online to give me an idea of her vision for my hair and I loved it. I adored Sade - love love love her vibe and warm personality. I needed some love put into my natural hair after my mom took me to her place for my birthday and my hair subsequently fell out... Even after I went to Sade my hair was reduced to a patch but the protein treatments definitely helped the breakage come to a stop and more than all I appreciate her honesty. Nothing can compare to a stylist that is as invested in your hair as you are. I plan to go back to have her put in some faux locs or crotchet braids when I have more confidence that my hair can handle the tension. I went in as a walk in and Sade immediately greeted me. She asked what style I was looking to do, asked me questions about my hair. She really took the time to do an assessment. I was able to get an appointment within the week, and she called me a day after I booked to see if I wanted to come in for a consultation first. I love this salon because Sade saved my curls! I have been going to Sade for a little over a year. When I first went to this salon I had color damaged natural hair and needed a serious cut because of all the damage. My hair was dry, splitting and honestly falling out. The thing I automatically liked about Sade was her professionalism. She didn't speak badly about my hair even though it was a mess and took her time working with my hair. She didn't try to up sell me during my consultation and gave me simple advice for my hair that has worked wonders! There is a disconnect between the receptionist and the stylists. The stylist was obviously over booked and I decided not to count that against her. I wanted a relaxer touch up and she told me she thought my hair wasn't ready yet. I though - ok maybe she just wants to protect my hair. I waited 30 minuted before I was shampooed. The girl who did it got water all over my face and soap in my eye. Then she put too many products in my hair. The blow dry was awful - she continually burned me. Then the stylist finally got to me and did an awful job straightening my hair. It was dry and I could have done a better job. I was really surprised because the first time I came to the salon , the stylist did a wonderful job on my relaxer. In ALL fairness, I TRIED to wait and see if things would improve because the Salon carries AVEDA product, which is amazing for my hair. The first time I tried this salon was in April. My hair came out amazing. The Owner, Sue (who by the way is so obnoxious, she practically works by herself).... The second time my hair came out very nice as well, so I decided to go back. The next two times my hair came out average and only lasted for 2-3 days. The last straw was when I paid 120 for a weave and it LEGIT started coming out DAYS later. Sue is RUDE, has POOR customer service, ARGUES with her clientel, and is just inconsiderate. I will admit she has a few customers (older) who faithfully come to her. For the salon to be so beautiful, its always EMPTY. Sue hired a new man, who is AMAZING. I watched him do someone elses hair, and I was PISSED I didnt choose him to do my hair. I do NOT reccomend this Salon to ANYONE. While Sue has been in business for 10 years, she is too lazy and arrogant to fully concentrate on her clients needs. She comes off as very knowledgable, which she IS... but her words do NOT match her skills and presentations... to top things off, this the salons prices are ABSURD for the results...
