I wanted to share my experience after searching for the right artist and shop for a tattoo I have envisioned for several years. Following the passing of my parents, I decided to finally move forward with the piece. After extensive research, I chose William at Mammoth American Tattoo. From my initial email to the consultation, the experience has been excellent. When I arrived at the shop, the staff was incredibly welcoming. William spent nearly an hour discussing the design and my requested changes with me. He provided great insights into color theory, explaining what would and wouldn't work to ensure the best result. I returned today to begin the tattoo, and both William and Ripley were fantastic. I am very happy with the linework completed during this first session. William also took the time to thoroughly explain the aftercare process. I can't say enough good things about this tattoo shop. Everyone was so kind and friendly, I felt so comfortable being there. Such amazing people who work there! My son who passed away two years ago was an avid skateboarder whose catch phrase was "Don't trip" as in don't worry about it, everything is ok. My son would also break his boards constantly and then hang them on his wall as art. I went in with a general idea of what I wanted, but Owlyn transformed my idea into something truly amazing. Flew to Denver to see Franti at Red Rocks. (Epic show!) walking to brunch this morning, we passed a tattoo shop and made a joke about getting lyrics tattooed on us to commemorate the experience. I checked yelp and the review that popped up was about a similar experience and had a picture showing the tattoo. Called & they said they take walk-ins. I highly recommend checking this shop out. I did a session with DJ Chilcote after seeing his work on Instagram. I genuinely appreciate the fact that he is extremely humble and honest. This was my first large piece and color piece, I feel that I couldn't have chose a better artist to do the work. If you want a clean tattoo that even you'll be shocked looking at every time, he's your man. He educated me on traditional tattoos and some of the more newer age styles that have been coming up, which was rad because it's something you don't really get to chat about that often. I also want to point out that they greeted me and offered me water or coffee. The atmosphere they've created at their shop is something you don't find that often. Guys. Save yourself the trouble of wondering where to go to get a tattoo in Denver and check these guys out at Mammoth. Flew in for a long weekend trip to see a show at redrocks and visit some friends and wanted to get a tattoo to commemorate my dad while I was here. There are sooo many tattoo shops in the downtown Denver area and I completely lucked out by finding these guys. They have an amazing shop back in a nice neighborhood on 26th st with plenty of parking and an open, friendly vibe. I came as a walk-in, and though there weren't any artists available when I got there, they told me to come back in an hour and they'd get me taken care of. The whole process was low key, and easy. Everyone I met (including the owner who is also a Va native) were chill, friendly, and easy to work with. Eric was the artist that took on my tattoo request and he absolutely knocked it out of the park. Such a nice human, and threw down a song verse consisting of super small text with absolutely zero issues. The other artists in the shop came by as I was getting my tattoo done and complimented him on his work too, and I really love that the other artists were all so stoked at the intricate work he was doing. Just such good vibes all around. I'll definitely try and swing back through the next time I'm in town to get more work done. I am SO happy I found Chad at Mammoth! I've been searching for the last several months to find an artist to finish my back piece, which is also a cover up. Chad was really honest and straight forward with me during our first consultation, and said we'd spend a lot of time drawing and discussing until we found something or we didn't. First session, he spent over an hour drawing on my back. We changed directions a few times, and he was really patient and worked with me until we were both happy with the final design. The tattooing went quickly and smoothly on my back - so much so that we even had time to do another small piece on the back of my arm. Can't wait for this to finally be finished by Chad! read more

Had a great experience with Jesse at Mammoth American. At the end of a 3 day hiking trip my brother and I decided on impulse to get a quick tat in honor of our father. Not sure if we'd have the time before our flight, these guys came highly recommended. Jesse reached out to his scheduled appointment and asked if he could push him back about 15 minutes (dude was super cool about it) and we both ended up getting our ink. A very simple image of military dog tags was brought to life by his artistry, attention to detail and obvious experience. He consulted with us individually at length (despite the last minute kind of a rush job!) and made adjustments to accommodate existing tattoos. Had a consult with DJ Chilcote, put down a $100 deposit just to talk about booking his time in the future. I finally get to a place schedule wise that I can get some work done and he says he can't give me an overall estimate. It's just take it or leave it $150 an hour for as long as he wants it to last... I say no thanks if you can't give me an estimated total or time I'm out. I'm not just going to sit there while you take your sweet time collecting that kind of money per hour. I ask for my "deposit" back and he says it's non refundable. So I'm out $100 just for giving this guy a chance. Wow and good luck with practices like that... William the owner has 25yrs in, and you can see it in his work, and how the shop is run as well. All artists here are high caliber, and cool down to earth people. I've had only positive experiences getting tattooed here. Pictures on instragram can't give you any idea of personalities or experience which to me at least, is a big part of it. Absolutely fantastic studio. William is my artist and I couldn't be more pleased. I've been working with him for a couple years now on a sleeve and at this point I trust him completely. I used to bring in pictures of ideas but now we just talk about it and I let him do what he sees. This is a very cozy studio in an old house and you get tons of privacy, you're not in a little both. William and Matt, another incredible artist at the studio have their own rooms upstairs which I really appreciate. If you're looking for true custom artwork this is the premier spot in Denver. Almost hate to review it for fear of a long wait list but these guys deserve the praise! read more

Never have I been so disrespected by a company or shop. I have been a returning customer of Michael Martinez for a little over a year now, but now I will never let him tattoo me or will never recommend him or this shop to anyone ever again. A few months back I scheduled my 6th appointment with Michael to do another big part of my sleeve he already had started for me. The original outline he drew for me I loved! I made an appointment that day to FINISH the piece in two weeks. Two weeks later I come back in, expecting to be there a while since that morning Michael told me it would be 150$ for our session that day. It turned out to be a 40 minute pointless shading session. When I asked him why he wasn't finishing it he told me "he didn't have time to today". I left the shop pretty upset and Michael did message me and apologized but also said he would "hook me up" next time, I told him I would message him when I had money for another session with him. A month goes by and I start to realize my piece isn't looking right. My lion had a 3rd left leg. When I confronted Michael about the mistake that HE made, all he could say to me was "it was an honest mistake" and he told me to stop being rude to him. I didn't realize that trusting a tattoo artist to not mess up his OWN artwork was rude, but okay. I told him I wasn't going to go back to him because of this incident. Another couple months go by and I had already told a few people about my experience with him and word got back to Michael that I was still really upset about it. He texted me and asked me if he could fix it, he told me he would fix the 3rd leg for free, but I wanted the whole piece finished at this point. I asked how much he would charge me to finish it and he completely forgot about the two separate sessions he made me pay 150$ each for and asked me to pay ANOTHER 150$ after he said he would hook me up apparently. I told him that wasn't fair to me and he asked for my opinion on what I should pay and we agreed on 60$. Just to reassure myself I wasn't going to get cheap work done because of the dramatic price drop I asked him and he told me that's now how he works. It obviously is though because I now have a regular 4 legged lion but with terrible color job. It is very light. The shades don't even look like realistic colors(like I wanted) and it isn't even completely filled in! You can still see my skin color in parts! I am so absolutely disgusted that someone wants their own artwork to look like this and also that someone would treat their very loyal customers like this. If he will do it to me he will do it to anyone. Do not go here. Ever. Disgusting. read more

I reached out to Dj Chilcote and he did more than I could have asked for. He gave me several options and made me feel important. I got my tattoo done that same day and he made sure I was comfortable and that I loved the design.
