I went there today & was warmly welcomed by Anela, Keaulani. They were VERY helpful in assisting me and gave me advice as I tried on several dresses. They provided excellent customer service & I felt comfortable talking to them. I love my dress & it will be perfect for the occasion. My son purchased a shirt here last year for a family gathering and I was very impressed with the print design, the fit and the quality. So when shopping for a gift for my father, I thought immediately of stopping by the Manaola at Ala Moana. The staff welcomed us upon entry and made as feel valued as customers. We really had no idea what we would find, but happily settled on a very nice shirt with a front pocket. (My dad likes to have that front pocket to put stuff in.) They have a good selection of apparel for men and women and even though I did not buy more than that one shirt, I was certainly tempted. Some of the prints had limited inventory so be aware of that. Honestly, I much prefer to spend on a quality item here, than going to a department store or a fancy European boutique, of which there are plenty at this mall. I usually buy a shirt to wear at Christmas that is locally designed. I was planning on going to the same store as last year. I was telling my daughter and she mentioned that I might want to check out Manaola's shirts. She also said there was Manaola Hawaii store that was within walking distance of my Condo so I decided I would. It was three days before Christmas and I wanted to avoid the crowds so I made a point of getting there just as the store opened. Manaola Hawaii has a nice vibe and the merchandise is displayed well. His fabric patterns are so beautiful. It's Hawaiian in a unique contemporary way. There is an area where the Men's shirts are. I especially like how the men's shirts are cut. They start in X small and go on up. I'm usually a Medium in most Aloha shirts, which often are just a tad too long in the sleeve and shirt length. A Manaola shirt is cut so a men's Small fits me perfectly in every way. I tried on several shirts first in Medium and was about to leave, I loved the style but it didn't feel right. That's when I decided to try a size Small which also had a larger style selection. When I tried the first shirt in Small and the fit was so perfect, I was actually excited to try on more shirts in size small. I did finally find that perfect shirt. I went in specifically to just get a shirt, but there is a nice selection of women's clothing and other items worth checking out. My goal was to get in and out of the mall and get a shirt. I have only been here once. The purpose of my visit was to check out the inside of a purse I had seen on their website. I didn't want to invest the $$ until I see what options I had. (I NEED pockets in a purse.) I was already at Ala Moana, so I decided to follow Allison D. to Manaola. She had been there before & is a big fan. Their store is located on the ground floor Makai side of the mall. It is next to See's Candies. The store wasn't busy when we walked in. I looked around for the bag, but didn't find it. What I did find was beautiful clothing with awesome designs. I found a romper that I just HAD to have. The fabric was light and had plenty of flow. It fit perfectly! When I did remember that I was here for the purse, I finally asked the sales associate for help. He explained to me that some items are online only. He did bring it up on the website to verify which bag I was looking for. I confirmed and he proceeded to show me the lining in a similar style. That's great customer service! This past weekend was our very first visit to the new location in Ala Moana. I was Christmas shopping with my mother, two sons and other half. Upon entering the store, we were not greeted by any of the four employees that were there. I saw them asking and helping literally everyone else with finding items etc. I did a loop around the entire store and was interested in a large tote that would have been perfect for the traveling we do and my mother was interested in a men's aloha shirt. She was walking around with it in her hand and we got to the front of the store and still no help! I told her to put it back because we get better customer service walking into the Disney store! She agreed, put it back, and we left. It's unfortunate because we do frequently like to support local businesses but will do so with other shops such as manuhealii which we do often. Elijah and Tavia were extremely helpful and provided outstanding customer service. As we browsed through the store, they both were attentive and so oluolu. Their knowledge and willingness to teach us about the different designs was very impressive. I could tell that they take great pride in their work. They treated us like ohana and helped us pick out the perfect dress for my daughter's senior prom. Stopped in early this morning looking for a gift for my daughter-in-law. Manaola's clothes are ALWAYS beautiful but what amazes me the most is KAINOA! He is truly the BESTEST sales associate EVER! Every time I go to Manaola he never fails to give true Aloha! He's super friendly & helpful even my GF's enjoyed his company so much that they didn't want to leave! My first time and with my 'ohana and friends made it all the more special. Located near the food court of Ala Moana mall next to Sees Candies, the store itself was beautiful. A little tight space but lucky enough we were the only ones in there for the first half hour. There were three workers and they were very helpful. One could even 'ōlelo Hawai'i! Excellent service with a personal touch. I took my wife shopping at Ala Moana to cheer her up because her car was recently broken into and some things were taken. I didn't even realize there was a Manaola store, but I also rarely ever go to the mall. As soon as we step foot into the store we were immediately greeted by one of the employees, Kainoa. He was so kind and welcoming, and asked us if there was anything in particular we were looking for. We didn't have anything in mind so my wife gleefully perused the beautiful garments and fashionable styles. I quickly noticed how each article of clothing was so intricately designed. Back to Kainoa. I'm not one to shop for clothing. I let my wife do that for me as my fashion sense seems to be lacking. Fortunately, Kainoa was a wonderful conversationalist. I learned about his background and his hobbies, and I shared mine. We talked stories the entire time my wife was shopping and trying on clothes. He still gave great attention and care to the few other customers that came in. I noticed that he has a unique ability to make people feel welcome in such a short period of time. As my wife made her decision on an alluring top, another employee, Keaulani, assisted us with checking out. Like Kainoa, she was so friendly and created an environment that made us feel like ohana. Being someone that enjoys learning of others, I asked her about her aspirations. I was surprised to learn that at such a young age she works full-time in order to put herself through college. I wish at that age I was as driven and motivated as she is. Such an inspiration! As Keaulani rang us up, Kainoa wrapped up my wife's new top. Even the way he packaged purchased merchandise was intricately done with aloha. I made a comment that it looked like a tightly wrapped laulau. My wife and I will undoubtedly be shopping at Manaola in the near future. Both Kainoa and Keaulani are great assets to the company. This was my first shopping experience here & I was very excited to shop being that Manaola is a HYPE right now in Hawaii. I'm very disappointed at customer service I received here at Manaola (Alamoana Downstairs Location). They made me feel very shame & uncomfortable. My MIL had bought me a dress, at an event called OHA which Manaola was featured at. Unfortunately it didn't fit me correctly. I called the store in the morning around 1030am spoke to a lady name U'ilani, she asked if my MIL had a "Profile" & from there she looked up her name, asked me the type of dress it was, I told her & she advised me that I could bring it in and exchange it. I walked into the store around 330 this after noon, no one greeted me the gentlemen & the young female at the register just kind of stared at me. I walk straight to register & let them know my situation, (as I previously explained) put the dress on the counter & for about 5 mins they were starring at the register/computer not saying anything to me, talking quietly amongst themselves. The young female walks to the back & gets another female associate & they continue to stare at the computer. I finally said I'm going to walk around, as I'm walking around I notice other customers are coming into the store. They're being greeted, they're being asked if they need fitting rooms started, but no one asked me if I needed help & by this time I was also holding 4 dresses, I let my self into a fitting room. I found a dress I liked & as soon as I step out of the fitting there was another female standing right there to tell me that they can't exchange the dress because it's past 30 days & the top we have in the system is for a different color. Now I'm confused & a little disappointed. I go to the register & I hand the young female a dress that I tried on & would like to purchase I let her know the dress I brought with me could be under another name. Stood there for another 5 mins as they attempted to look up the name. Mind you they're other customer waiting behind me. They're still giving me the run around & I'm telling the females I'm willing to pay the difference for the dress I want. Finally I repeated what I had said when I first walked in & they were talking like "you talked to who ?" "You talked to U'ilani, ok we will call her" As if what I was saying was a lie. The young female gets off the phone (I'm guessing with U'ilani) & now they're willing to exchange it. I felt like I was being judged based off my appearance, I felt like no one was listening to what I was saying. I wasn't trying "be that customer". But this is the worst experience I've ever encountered shopping. I do work in retail so I do know how customers should be treated & I also do know the customers isn't always right but in this situation if they didn't allow me to exchange they would've lost out on a sale being that I paid the difference for the dress I wanted. read more

Best customer service I have experienced. I started my bag collection with Manaola. I'm a support local kind of girl. Why spend that money on mainland companies? I had the honor and privilege of winning the Black Friday gift card and used to gift bags to loved ones. Yes I said bags. You made my mother happy and now we don't have to boycott the brand . We are all fans of the product and love supporting other local businesses and will continue to do so. My only recommendation would be to empower your employees more. This could have been resolved quite simply at the store level if the workers there felt confident they could make decisions in good faith without facing negative repercussions from upper management. A simple exchange that was outside of your normal return policy but with extenuating circumstances, in my opinion, is not something that should require two levels of management approval. I visited the Ala Moana store this past Saturday (12/21) and I half-heartedly grabbed a couple of pieces to try on. Elijah set me up in the dressing room. When I came out disappointed, he listened to my concerns, suggested a few new pieces, and encouraged me to try on styles I never would have looked at. I walked out with a beautiful dress, neatly wrapped. The mana'o card was an added touch and made my purchase extra special. Elijah was awesome and made my shopping experience a positive one. I have many years of retail and Customer Service experience and I know the importance of great service and customer attentiveness. Manaola is lucky to have Elijah and I'll definitely be back! I came in the store ready to check out the styles I've seen online, and ready to purchase clothing. However, when I came in the store. I already felt judge by my appearance, no greetings at all. But when the other customer who had branded clothes on were greeted and were asked questions. It felt like it was a slapped in the face for me. I had clothes to try on and hopefully buy. But, nobody seemed to mind about what I'm doing. The designs were amazing and comfortable. But customer service wasn't so pleasant. I working in the past in retail, I've learned to never judge customers by their appearance or clothings that they used. Because no matter what they are, they're customers who would probably buy so much more. And in all honestly, it's true. I've had customers that didn't have any bling on, but bought the most. So, to whoever is hiring these people. Don't just hire people because you know them or are relatives of yours. Make sure they know the brand and REPRESENTS the brand so well that no customers feel so left out and judge. Hire someone who actually smiles, too. And treats their customers with respect. The designer is talented but with associates who can't even work professionally and kindly, it'll definitely ruin the company. read more

I went to both their pop-up and main stores at Ala Moana. The staff at both locations were very helpful and friendly. My main reason for going there was to check out the men's shirts because my sister wanted to buy them for her husband and son. After getting permission to take pictures so I could send them to her via text message, she chose the ones she wanted. I bought them and was able to have them mailed to her. In addition, I bought one of their bags for myself as a bday present. I left there a very happy camper. read more

Being part of the hula community, I am always looking for different "Hawaiian" wear to add to my closet. One day, I decided to visit Manaola. As soon as I entered the store, I was immediately greeted with a pleasant hello by a male employee. He was extremely friendly, and "talked story" with me the entire time. After I made my purchase, he explained the mana'o behind the print and wrapped my new bag so neatly and carefully. The next time I visited the store, the same male employee was working. He remembered me and was again, so pleasant and friendly. He was also very helpful and accommodating, as a different size was needed. He made us feel so welcomed; like we were family. I visited this store for the first time looking forward to an amazing experience. They are not helpful, no one asked if I needed help in fact as I approached the counter, the two sales reps walked away. I was stunned as I have visited Manuhealii with so much aloha the minute you enter their store. It's a small store with extreme limited quantities of anything. Any design or pattern I liked, there was nothing in my size. I went with two other friends so size small medium and large were represented for women and men's medium, large and extra large was needed. None if us found anything. Tonight we were lucky to find some beautiful pieces. On top of that we got to meet the designer himself. Growing up in Hawaii, you go to many events that require a nicer outfit. Many people wear their nicest aloha wear. A popular choice of many is Manuhealii, but recently, my friend, who is an avid hula dancer for a very well known hālau, introduced me to this wonderful shop, Manaola! I realized that I have seen their prints all around the many Hawaiian-based events I go to and how I have always admired their pieces. I went to their pop-up shop at Kamehameha School's alumni lūau and bought my first item from Manaola: Kapakai Pant in the print Nanaka. After that, I truly became obsessed with their stuff! Whenever I go to Ala Moana, I make sure that I stop at their store. When I started buying their headbands, there was no stop to me spending my money on them; They are just too cute and comfortable! Although I love this store, I do think they are a bit expensive. I do not mind spending the money on the clothes, however I do think if something rips or breaks, they should be willing to replace or fix. My friend bought one of their headbands and absolutely loved it. Recently, the elastic in the it snapped, so she took it to the store, but they would not fix it or offer her a new one. I understand where the employees are coming from, but I believe they should help out the local population and replace broken things. If the people of Hawaii are willing to spend that kind of money for Manaola's clothes, I feel like they should give back if one of their customer's items break in anyway. Anyway, their clothes are very special to me, being a native Hawaiian. Being more on the pale side, I feel like wearing Manaola makes people realize that I am of Hawaiian descent. Also, their patterns are so beautiful. They are fairly simple looking at them from a distance, but when you look at them up close, they are absolutely stunning. They have such intricate detail that makes you stand back in awe. Hopefully you decide to shop at Manaola, however, be ready to pay a good amount of money and take care of your items with all of your might. My brother purchased a black and gold small $315 buckle zip bag from Manaola on May 7, 2017 along with other items totaling about $500 and I fell in love with all of it. I got many compliments on the purse, color, design and style. After 2 weeks of regular daily use, I noticed the seams at the top of the bag starting to come apart. The glue that was holding the seams together split apart the different layers inside and outside of the bag. I called the Manaola shop in Alamoana on May 22, and kindly asked to speak with someone who could assist me and see if I could bring the bag in for repairs or exchange it for another one (its only been 2 weeks and come on, let's face it, it's a $300 bag). I was told by Macy, her managers just left to Bali and she would have someone contact me via email or phone. After two weeks of no contact I called the store back on June 7th, 2017 to follow up. The person who answered the phone referred me to her manager "Macy" who I spoke with before. Again, I explained my situation with my bag and this was her reply "yah, I remember you, our crew just got back from Bali and that's where they take the bags to do repairs. If you want your bag fixed you will have to wait a YEAR because they only go once a year". I expressed my disappointment and told her I wish I had known about the quality of these bag and had I known of this earlier, I would have NEVER spent that kind of money. I asked if I could speak with another manger who may be able to help me out in any way but she said "I am the manager". Macy had a very PILAU attitude and showed NO aloha. Nothing close to anything I have EVER experience in Manaola before. Prior to this incident on May 12th, I went in to purchase more items and met the owner Manaola himself and he had so much aloha, compassion and respect. He even took the time out to share with me the history and making of the Hawaiian traditional 'ohe kapala and explained the gold and black colors being of royalty. I can simply glue the bag together myself or have someone repair it but honestly that's besides the point. I'm writing this review to let others know of my experience and pray no one spending this large amount of money ever goes through the same issues. I WISH I knew about the quality of the bags before making a purchase. I will warn all my family and friends of this incident as I said I would before Macy graciously gave me her approval saying "yah, that's fine". I LOVE the prints and the clothing line, I usually have no problem with the sales associates here, always very friendly and willing to help, however this last time that i entered the store there was an older lady that greeted me. I believe her name was Patricia, I could be wrong, but I was inquiring about a certain style I wanted where my size was not available. At first she seemed to worry about my wants and needs, however when she started pulling out styles or colors that I personally didn't like on my complexion she started to get a bit too pushy for my liking, saying "just buy it" kind of pushing the sale down my throat even after i had said that I liked the style just not the color. Called their store bad customer service they said because it was purchased at a pop up shop in Maui they can not help me. So then I said do I have to fly to Oahu for a refund or Exchange. That young thing was not helpful. She then said she will get back to me and never did. It took about three months to get some one to help. This was my first time coming to the Ala Moana location as I did not know there was another location in Pearlridge. If I knew, I would have gone there since it was a lot closer to me. I Received a gift from a dear friend for Christmas and was so happy as it was my first Manaola. Unfortunately, the gift (bag) was a bit too big for my style so I decided to return it and get something I would be able to make use of. As I walked in, I thought about walking around the store to see what I could exchange for and a really nice top caught my eye. Price tag was surely high for my budget, but maybe, I could get it with my exchange. Ended up going straight to the cashier. He asked me for my gift receipt and I told him I had none but the tag was still on there. He asked me if I had a name of the person who gifted it to me and I proceeded to give the name of my dear friend. He looked it up and I heard his co-worker saying that she purchased a lot. He looked for the item I wanted to return and found the item she purchased and to my surprise, I was told I would not be able to return the item as it was originally purchased as a "Special purchase" and all sales were final at the time of purchase. His co-worker had a phone call and whomever she was talking to, she asked the cashier for my name? (which I thought was really odd). The more I think about it, the return would need to be approved by upper management perhaps? All I would ask for is a store credit and even that was not allowed. I was so disappointed and walked out of the store thinking this is a terrible store policy!!! Management should really rethink their return policy as the gift was given for Christmas and not everyone will have the same style. This makes me so sad and disappointed that I'm not able to return the item I was given, I'm stuck with a bag I have no use for. Manaola lost out on a good customer and gained a bad review from a very disappointing customer. I would NOT recommend shopping at this establishment. Went in the store today with my wife feeling excited as I've seen the commercials and followed the fashion shows and wanted to support local, but what a dissapointing experience. First impressions are always the most important, so what's up with the haole guy worker with attitude? When we walked in he was at the front and just looked at us up and down and didn't say a thing. No greeting, no aloha for us locals. We walked out disgusted. I understand high makamaka mainland/foreign stores treating us locals like that, but a local designer store? We need to support each other, not act like we're better than each other.
