The designs keep bringing you back into this place! Gorgeous colors, patterns and culturally significant designs. Prices can be steep for some items and reasonable for others. Service is always great and attentive here. Great selection of clothes, jackets, tops, dresses and men's wear.

Free tickets to the Hula Bowl at Aloha Stadium in Honolulu, Hawaii... My friend, Kuuipo, tagged me on Instagram for a contest to win 4 tickets to see the last football game of the college season. I didn't think I'd win... but... I did! I got a message from Manaola HAWAII to pick up the tickets TODAY. I was on my way to my mom's house for Lunar New Year dinner, so I had to take a detour to Ala Moana Shopping Center... haha! [Loosely translated: Mana = magical power. Ola = life] LOCATION: using Rena G.'s tip on the Yelp app, she directed me to Center Stage - by Big Island Candies. Wow...there was a big crowd outside because the shop was in the process of being blessed for the New Year of the Golden Rat. A Kung Fu Club was performing the traditional Lion Dance. Luckily, I had a red envelope (li see) in my purse so I could feed one of the lions! How exciting! I wasn't able to shop this time, so I'm looking forward to returning and getting a dress. The traditional Hawaiian patterns on the material have special meanings. The styles are contemporary and look comfortable and modern. If you look on Facebook and/or Instagram, the photos use the natural beauty of our islands as a backdrop. The ocean and mountains accentuate the clothing that the local models are wearing. Besides clothing, there were tote bags, clutches, body lotions, and more! I just gotta go back soon and take a better look at these treasures! Tips: there's free parking at Ala Moana Shopping Center - go to the Makai side, lower level. The clean, spacious store has several dressing rooms! Thanks to Kuuipo and Manaola HAWAII for the tickets to the Hula Bowl! BONUS: Designer Manaola Yap was at the store! He graciously paused to let me get a photo!

I pride myself on the choices my family and I wear especially when it comes to our matching attire. We shop at local businesses to help support in their own success and refer our family and friends when we feel that our patronage is much appreciated or that the products/merchandise speak for itself. But the biggest factor for me personally is the way we are made to feel and having our expectations met with disappointment or surpassed. We've visited the Pearlridge location once and the young man working there didn't even greet us. When I inquired about a product, he gave me a short answer and walked away. There was no Aloha, no Ho'okipa and I felt as if I inconvenienced him. The store was empty that day and he went back to using his phone behind the counter so moving forward I decided to only visit the Ala Moana location. When businesses hire, their employees become an extension and as consumers we expect a level of guest servicing to some aspect. I've been in the hospitality/customer service/retail/management industry for over 30 years so I will make an effort to write a commendation when it's warranted. A few years ago we visited Manaola and met a young man by the name of Tanner. When we walked in, he greeted us like we were Ohana and immediately welcomed my husband and I. He began explaining who Manaola is and his vision. Intrigued, I asked him how long he was with the company and to my surprise he was a recent hire. He had such a passion & respect for the business that you almost believed he was speaking as if it was his own. THAT kind of loyalty and passion is something you can't train or teach, it's either instilled within us or it's nonexistent. Over the next few years when my family and I would visit, it wasn't because of the design and don't get me wrong the clothing is beautiful, but it was because of Tanner's mana'o that he shared. You could see his ha'aheo when he spoke about the designs which persuaded us to purchase and our purchases became sentimental in value for us as Hawaiian's. It's difficult to find someone that resonates with their guests, that builds rapport, expresses a deep sense of ho'okipa with them, and epitomizes the company, the brand, and the business the way that Tanner has provided for my family and I over the years. We've referred so many of our family and friends because of this young man and I wanted to say "mahalo nui loa to Tanner for all your Aloha and Ho'okipa you provided consistently over the year's." We truly appreciate you! I hope the company sees you for your value, your worth, and what you so effortlessly have brought to the business! If this review was based on Tanner I would have given it 5 stars, I only gave it 4 because of the experience I had at the Pearlridge location. Hospitality goes a long way and so does loyalty and word of mouth.

Mahalo Nui, Tanner! We LOVE our MANAOLA Family Attire!!!

The Merrie Monarch vibes must have kicked in and I had to finally pop that cherry. I initially went with my hula family and used that time to soak everything in. The next day I went back alone to purchase a few items I couldn't stop thinking about. Both Nāpali and Hōkūpa'a hyped me up during my visit and all items I tried on was sold on the spot. Countless hugs and mahalo were exchanged during my encounter with them. Again, I had to go in a third time just to mahalo your (business) ʻohana during my trip to Hilo! Just about a week later I figured I would "window shop" again during my lunch break at South Shore Market and I was able to catch up with Hōkūpa'a. Then after some time of being educated about the items at the store I was sold again - resulting in me purchasing even more items than I did in Hilo! More hugs and mahalo were shared that day. I can't thank Nāpali a me Hōkūpa'a and the rest of the Salvage Public ʻohana enough for your continued legendary service every time I visit.

So much to choose from along with lots of clearance items making it a great deal shopping here is an experience to find clothing for the whole group. He didn't know where they got it from. Then he found a small in the other shirt he received and the male sales associate asked if he had a gift receipt. No, we didn't have one. So he asked "when did you receive it?" My husband said on May 19. He said "Oh, that's more than 30 days-we can't exchange it." Today is the 20th of June. Seriously!?!?! One day late and no grace period!?!??! So now he's stuck with 2 shirts that he can't use....So CAUTION! DO NOT BUY ANY GIFTS from this place. I know if the person he got the gifts from knew they had such a strict policy, she would have warned him to rush and exchange them. Horrible customer experience. The brand has a long history in street culture, and this location reflects that identity with a clean and minimalist retail space focused entirely on the clothing. The store layout is simple and well organized, which makes it easy to browse through the collections. Racks feature a mix of graphic tees, hoodies, hats, and other staple pieces that the brand is known for. The designs maintain the classic Stüssy style that blends surf, skate, and street culture influences. One thing that makes this location interesting is the connection between the brand and Hawaii's surf culture. Stüssy originally emerged from surf roots in California, and seeing the brand represented in a place like Waikiki feels very fitting. The shop tends to attract both visitors and locals who are interested in streetwear and limited releases. The environment inside is relaxed and focused more on the clothing itself rather than flashy retail design. What stood out to me most was how the store maintains the authenticity of the Stüssy brand while fitting naturally into the Waikiki shopping scene. Overall, Stüssy Honolulu is a great stop if you are into streetwear or want to check out one of the well-known global brands located along Kalākaua Avenue.

I would stock up on socks and sweaters with abandon from the Uniqlos closer to my home in San Francisco. That was why it surprised me that I would seek out this familiar store at the mammoth Ala Moana Center. However, I had seen a local vlogger's YouTube video where he showcased the Hawaiian-exclusive clothing they sell here. Jamie W and I decided to drop by when we were at Ala Moana. Although not at the scale of the Tokyo Ginza flagship, it's one of the global chain's larger stores with an expansive multi-floor space. They offer the Brands Hawaiian Loco line, which is quite a distinct array of T-shirts spotlighting locally renowned businesses like Leonard's Bakery, Hawaiian Airlines, and Zippy's. I even bought one featuring a bowl of Zippy's saimin called Zipmin (Photo 4). I also really liked their line of aloha shirts because designs came from top quality Japanese block prints. I fell in love with one shirt based on Hokusai's "The Great Wave Off Kanagawa". I had never seen one like that before. They even offer opportunities to customize T-shirts and tote bags using exclusive designs from local artists. There's enough here to justify a shopping expedition. If you think one Uniqlo is like another, reconsider and come here. RELATED - Exploring Hawaii? Here's a collection of places I've visited and reviewed: https://yelp.to/06Oa2Epa6T
