Elizabeth did us a one time courtesy by not charging us the cancellation fee on the second session & also removing the booking for the second session. Emily the operation manager allowed Elizabeth to take 20% off our first session. Which I don't believe was enough for what we paid, the women's whirl pool being down & the awful experience. Emily did not come out to greet me, talk to me or apologize for my experience. For all I know, Emily could be a made up person. The couples are unable to lounge together as the relaxation lounges are separated. The music had guitar riffs & made it difficult for my boyfriend to relax aside from the awful gentle skin rubbing. I refuse to call this a massage. IT WAS MEMORABLE IN THE WORST POSSIBLE WAY! Oddly enough, all the emails we received did not specify the names of our massage therapist. We checked. Came in for a facial. By far the worst facial I have ever had in my whole life. To begin, the "spa" is just a makeshift hallway that they are using while their real spa is undergoing renovations. So it is just a facial in a random hotel room that they put a table in. Second, the service itself. From the minute I laid on the table was a bad experience. First thing she says to me is that she wants to do a different facial than the one I booked. I don't even know what facial I ended up receiving, or if it was the same cost. I paid for a 70-minute facial, and I can guarantee I did not receive it, although the bad facial felt like it was at least 2 hours. Every facial I have gotten, they put a headband on to ensure the product does not get in your hair, but here they intentionally put as much in your hair as they can just to make sure you get to go wash off all of the $300 worth of products from the facial immediately afterwards. They use uncomfortable tools over and over until you ask them to just stop, waste 10 minutes of the time with a "red light mask" on your face while they just sit there, and another 5 minutes with little eye masks that you can buy at the store for $3, so essentially 15 minutes already wasted. The bed was crazy hot to the point that I just asked her to turn it off. Basically, 60 minutes of wasted time (even though I paid for 75) and $300 down the drain. After the first 20 minutes, I spent the rest of the time just waiting for it to be done, counting the money wasted minute by minute. Talked to them afterwards to tell them how disappointed I was, only to be told that they are willing to give me $50 off the service. That doesn't even amount to the automatic gratuity that they add for the service to begin with. Save yourself the extra $200 and just get a quality facial at home, where you'll get much more than a mediocre facial for less than half the price. read more

I've been to some of the best hotel spas, where everything about the experience was luxurious and phenomenal. I have to be honest: there was nothing luxurious or phenomenal about the services here. I had a 60-minute "customized" massage as part of a group experience to celebrate my best friend's milestone birthday. There was nothing particularly cozy, uplifting, or special about the decor or the relaxation room. You were greeted with a "Namaste" by the folks at the front counter and by the therapists (all except for mine) and it felt trite and inauthentic. Spa robes were made of cheap, course linen that was kind of see-through. The hot tub was not working. There was nothing relaxing about my massage, nor do I understand what was so "customized" about it. I was never asked what style of massage I wanted or preferred. My massage therapist just used heavy pressure and very quick strokes. She did help get the kinks out of my shoulders and neck but did not go as gently elsewhere as I would have liked. I suppose you could say that the staff at Mandara "customized" my massage their way, not mine. You would think for the $180.00 charged I would have enjoyed the experience. I did not, save for being there with friends. To add insult to injury, they automatically tacked on a $36.00 gratuity. $216.00 for what was a sub-sub-par spa experience for which I probably would have tipped less. Please do yourself a favor and go off the premises for a spa experience and do not assume that just because it's pricey that it's good. It's not. First of all, it's not a luxury spa, it's a basic spa you would find on the corner of your street. There's nothing luxurious or special about it. The waiting room is basic with plastic lounge chair and no towels. The prices are ridiculous for the service, the setting and the quality of service and product. I had a deep-tissue massage followed by a facial. Massage was good, although slightly less than the 60 minutes booked. Facial was okay in terms of skin care, however the aesthetician described at the start a "dry scalp massage" would be done while a mask set. She barely touched my scalp but managed to totally tangle my medium-length hair. I was working knots out with a comb for 30 minutes afterward. At checkout, I learned a 20% tip was included. Dona is the worst spa administrator, it is not her goal to make you feel comfortable and relaxed, instead it is to make you feel uncomfortable. The person in front of me had a wrong service performed, nothing was offered in exchange, she was arguing with the customer right at the front desk, that she did get the service even though it was a wrong service. My own experience is, I missed my appointment, I was fully charged but was not allowed to use the sauna, and she just turned me away, and she blamed it on her director that she was not able to extend the courtesy. I'm sure John - the director would've, he was understanding when we spoke over the phone. People are on vacation and can forget about time and appointments. There are two check-ins. At the second, they give you a robe and offer you slippers. The locker room was clean and there was nothing out of place. The staff swept through making sure everything was neat quite frequently. The bathrooms were beautiful and clean with plenty of hygiene products at your disposal. The lockers were easy to figure out- a staff member demonstrated how they worked before she left you to get changed. They had a private changing room if you preferred. There was a steam room, sauna, and jacuzzi in the Spa for you to use. There were also showers. When it was time for your spa service, you enter a dimly lit lounge room with big puffy leather furniture. There were beverages like coffee, tea, water and juice at your disposal as well as light snacks of green apples and a small cup of trail mix. There were magazines if you wanted to read. They call you in for your service and walk you to your room. I got reflexology for the first time, and i was super relaxed. Toward the end of my 50 minute service, I was half asleep and like jello lol. I would recommend getting the relflexology service! It is just pressing on the feet but it is worth it! Although we all understand Covid-19 safety measures, the fact that this establishment does not provide robes nor lockers for their clients makes no sense. I just had a 50 minute customized massage w/ scalp massage & perafin foot rub. I always ask for a female masseuse (just my preference as I'm female too). Last time I was at the spa I had a swedish massage w/ somone I can't remember the name sorry. And it was underwhelming. This time, they placed me with Keisha (not sure 100% if i'm spelling her name right). I AM SO GLAD THEY DID!! She is lovely, very professional and... extremely good! She really got into my achy muscles real deep. The front reception could be a little better. Because of covid, you can't wait (& sit) in the waiting area nor can you use the whirlpool, sauna, etc. Bummer but understandable. My husband and I stayed at the hotel for the weekend. They have two spas. I forgot the name of the other spa. Since they were booked up, they recommended we go the Mandara spa. I didn't read any reviews prior to make any reservations. They were almost booked up. We took the only appointment that was available. Even when we made the reservation, the front desk Spa check staff were aloof and not at all friendly. They asked to take a hurried tour of the spa. They did their jobs well in the aspect of keeping everything clean and well stocked. I do admit that the spa is very clean and beautifully done. When we checked we were informed that we could you the spa hot tub/jacuzzi for the whole day. Prior to getting the massage. I wish we known about the little bit of information, that would have helped us plan the day better. A female front desk employee took into front of the locker room and asked about medical history (pregnancy etc) and asked me to pick a scent. Truthfully they had about 4-5 scents but I only remember the lavender, I picked. It was calming and relaxing. I always pick lavender. Just for the fact, I like to fall sleep when I get a massage. I am pretty sure my husband had the same type of treatment and showed into the male locker room. I must say, it's spacious and clean. I think that's what you can really appreciate about Spa, the cleanliness. After I changed I was waiting room on a lounge chair which had coffee, tea, water bottles with magazines. My masseur came for me pretty quickly no need to read. She wanted to ask what areas required special attention. I mentioned my concerns and needs, then she processed to take me to the massage room when I met my husband. The room had average relaxing feeling. I say that because some massage rooms I have been with the easy you can fall sleep when you walk in. My masseur was ok, I definitely had better. It lacked pressure, even though I asked for more, I think she was trying to add more but failed. She was trying her best but I am a New Yorker and when we say more pressure, we mean put your strength and get through my muscles. When the time was up, my husband said he wishes his masseur focused more on his legs. He left he definitely had better with more pressure. I came here with a Travelzoo voucher ($100 for $200 worth of services). The spa was pretty busy even though it was a weekday but they had plenty of staff, and everything was very clean. The rooms & spaces are kind of cramped though. I felt like I was always having to move out of someone's way. There were only two bathroom stalls and one changing stall so there was usually a wait for that too. The relaxation room was quiet and dark, and stocked with water, juices, V8, apples, trail mix, and a coffee machine. Getting a treatment allows you access to the fitness room but I had to get a staff member to let me in, which is annoying because then you can't just walk in and out. I didn't get a chance to use the sauna, steam room, or jacuzzi but I thought the rose petals around the hot tub were a nice touch. I actually prefer the spa facilities at G Spa at Foxwoods because of the hot/cold plunge pools, aromatherapy steam, and better showers. I chose the 50 minute massage with lime ginger salt glow. My massage therapist was excellent and very professional; sorry I forgot her name though! You get the salt rub treatment first, then shower off in the shower stall which is in the same room. The massage felt like it lasted forever, and the masseuse did not try to chat me up (I hate that). At the end, she told me about the products used but also told me that I probably wouldn't need most of them so I appreciated that. I can understand peoples annoyance at the mandatory 20% gratuity before you even get your service, but that seems pretty common for spas. I'm not a baller so I don't know the next time I will be able to visit, but I had a great experience. read more

First and last time using this spa! First they called to move up the appointments that we scheduled. We complied. Then the day of the appointments when we stepped into the casino to board the elevator they cancelled one of the massages booked. The "blah sorry" attitude was ridicules. So I gave up my massage to the person. In my group they cancelled. Adding a basic pedicure that was $90. Not worth the money. The pedicurist was very nice and professional but that was worth $35 at best. And I requested a French pedicure. They had NO white polish in this posh spa for a French pedicure. I also had a facial $220 with the scalp massage. There really was no massage to my scalp and as for the facial it would be three stars. Most facials have at minimum a shoulder massage. It is not worth the money at this spa. Also we were told we would have access to the entire spa floor, However that is not the truth, you do not have access to the pool on that floor which is part of the spa. Only if you are staying at the casino. All the free comp'ed room people were there and those paying over priced under shelled spa prices do not get access! Awful! I wish there was a way to rate my esthetician Nicole because i would give her 5+ stars. She was great and my skin felt fantastic after a microdermabrasion facial, that included Bliss Vitamin C and Triple Oxygen products. Nicole was wonderful. The spa and spa experience itself was "eh, ok". For the prices, it was a disappointment. The "slippers" they give you are over-washed plastic flip flops. When I asked if I could get a bandaid, I was told they don't have any. For a high end spa I expect top notch service from the staff not just the person providing my service. It should be an experience, and Elemis, was not a good experience outside of my actual facial. The other upside was that as I was checking out I was told because I spent X amount at the spa I was eligible to get $50 in free product. That was a plus. The only thing is, my friend did not get the offer even mentioned to her, and when she asked about it they did give it to her but not without a discussion. Absolutely the worst customer service I have ever experienced at a spa, which is supposed to be a relaxing event. In these times of Covid, I completely understand that a business has to take extra precautions and follow state rules. However, the following is what I experienced yesterday when I arrived for my massage: I arrived 15 minutes early to check in for my appointment. I was told that I had to wait outside in the hallway and could not sit in either one of the two plush chairs in the waiting area, which was completely empty. I had no problem with that, but I found it a little bit strange and the girl was not friendly at all in relaying the information to me. I waited outside in the hallway for about eight more minutes and then went back inside and asked if I could check in for my service so that I may also have ample time to use the restroom. I was rudely told NO -- that I had to go back outside, and I said, "this is a little ridiculous. " There was a woman working behind the country with shoulder-length bleach blonde hair who snapped at me and said that they're "just following state rules and you I should blame the state." The way she said this to me was so completely rude that I snapped back and I told her she shouldn't speak to a guest that way. She proceeded to berate me in front of her colleague. I went in for my service upset that this blonde woman ruined my relaxing experience. Quite frankly, she has zero right working in customer service and should really be reprimanded for the way she treated a guest yesterday. I went for a facial and the lady was completely inexperienced, she wanted to talk the whole time and every time I said something about my skin she would go "eww.. oh no." The facial was just awful, she didn't ask me to fill out a chart with my allergies or asked me my preferences (They are lucky I didn't have any kind of allergic reaction or medical condition!). I specifically picked the facial with extractions and she maybe did one extraction. I left the spa and she kept gook on my face and said she wished she had time to tell me about products but she can't because she is late and left. No wonder they include 20% gratuity, no one would tip if they did not. My thoughts were that the place seems to spare no expense, so the spa must be good. The "deal" wasn't important, but the hopes of a quality experience convenient to the area was indeed intriguing. So much for hopes. First impressions included beer bottle caps and the reek of cigarette smoke in the elevator to the spa. This is on a weekday morning. Treatments and service were dreadfully disappointing. The mandatory 20% gratuity policy frankly shoots themselves in the foot as it precludes one from tipping more than that amount. Discretion prevents detailing the events in ghastly detail. The hopes for a quality spa experience convenient to the area still exist. One can hope. read more

I booked a massage for my wife online with a Female therapist. When she arrived in the room, she was greeted by a male therapist. She is a bit shy so she did not say anything, but afterwards, she mentioned it to me. I called and spoke to Emily - the Ops Manager. After explaining what happened, she told me that the online system was out of her control and either I booked it wrong or the system sent it through wrong. When I assured her that I had specifically booked a female, she again said I booked it wrong. I explained that her reaction was not exactly customer friendly, she said that she did not mean for it to come out that way, but it was still my mistake. I know folks are short on labor, but a Manager should at least have the basic skillset to apologize and ask how they can make it better - she did neither, but she did ask if I wanted to book again. Purchased Travelzoo special for two massages early August for a sister's getaway in November with the plan on coordinating the weekend seeing The Doobie Brothers performance. The vouchers expired at the end of October. When I called Mandara Spa I inquired if I could extend the voucher by two weeks and was informed it would not be a problem and received confirmations for my requested early weekend in November. Imagine my surprise to receive a phone call yesterday to advise me this would not be possible. I had already made hotel, dinner and concert purchases and would now have to pay the difference in spa treatments. (about $100 extra per massage). I was told to contact Travelzoo to see if they would authorize - which I did - and even Travelzoo upon calling them had no success to try and accommodate. Director of Spa Operations Donna needs to take additional customer service courses. Side note- I worked in the hotel industry for more than 20 years in AAA 5 star and Relais & Chateaux hotels. Let's just say I opted for the experience only because of the Groupon deal and left still feeling like I paid too much for what I received. Groupon was also offering 20% off any spa deals at the time so I paid $151.20 for the groupon. There is an automatic 20% gratuity included for the full price of services received at the Elemis that came to $71.50. All in all I spent $222.70. Naturally my only job was to meet my friend in the Mohegan hotel lobby for 2:30pm. Unfortunately, I was running late because I completely forgot to print out my groupon as the spa had specifically requested and had to turn around. We arrived at the spa right at 3pm and I felt horrible my friend was stuck waiting. The girl at the front desk wasn't very nice about it either and just said "you know this will cut into you service time." I understood, but felt like it could have been handled better. In my experiences you usually are offering a groupon because business has declined and you are trying to get people in the door. The spa was a ghosttown so I can't imagine we were really putting them out. The first hot stone massage was OK. Any hot stone massage is always nice but following the massage I was still sore in the same places and didn't really feel like it was worth the price, I've had better and more affordable hot stone massages done at local spas. The fact that it even listed aromatherapy seemed a mistake in advertisement because I didn't smell anything. Apparently the massage oil used had hints of lavender. The facial was the saving grace of my experience. I wish I remembered my technician's name because she was super welcoming, non-judgemental, and loved to chat just as much as I do. She also gave me some really good pointers for my skin. If I ever go back to Elemis it will be with a groupon deal, only for a facial, and I will definately request her! As for the facility, it is nice but could use some updating, the robes were light and cheap feeling, and they did not have much in the realm of toiletries in the bathrooms to use to get yourself dolled up for a night at the casino after. I also felt the customer service of the room attendants and front desk were lacking. This review is not on the spa side but it's Salon. I've had the pleasure of wasting some time and try to get pampered prior to attending a show at Mohegan. Originally tried to book a massage but for some reason they were fully booked..certainly didn't seem like it when I got there... Anyways. I decided to book a simple wash - dry - style, mani-pedi and make-up. Upon entering the spa (3rd floor) it appears fancy. The Salon side has a tiny little waiting area.. With 3 chairs nothing special and nothing to look at but a wall of shampoo, lucky for me Jenny McCarthy have just finished getting her nails done and I get to at least see her on her way out. The hair dresser did a great job and the mani-pedi came out great. Then came the make-up which I could've lived without. The girl who applied this face mask had nice natural looking make-up on so I assumed she would probably do a good job. Needless to say I had to wash it off. I was shocked that when I payed on the spa side the staff felt that it was ok to let me leave the Salon this way or to even charge me.. The fake eye lashes were above my actual lashes the eye color went all the way to my brow.. it was horrid. Bad enough that even the people who provided the other services were saying.. " well you look different", and "you brought make up with you to touch up..right?". Amazingly the person cashing me out didn't feel the need to not tell me or not charge me 70$ plus gratuity for that.. I'm glad I made her night as she was trying to hold back laughter. All and all it felt like your typical local salon. Today was my first visit to Elemis spa at Mohegan. I've heard great things about this place from coworkers and friends. The entire reason my boyfriend and I went to Mohegan and booked a room was for our spa day today. I must say I left very unsatisfied. I reserved this back in early February and when speaking with the booking agent there was no explanation of needing to arrive 15-20minutes early. Unfortunately there was also confusion around the booking time which we arrived 10 minutes late (noting I had it at 1130am but the spa said 11am). We immediately arrived though when they called since we were onsite. The locker room was packed so I had to wait to get into my locker and put my items back then wait in the waiting area. By the time we settled into the room and such with our therapist (who was great) we received just about a 20 minute massage. Nonetheless paid for two 50 minute massages plus they tag a 20% gratuity which I truly do not feel the spa deserves. I spoke with a lovely woman in the locker room who apologized for my visit and directed me to the manager. As she too noticed the locker room was packed which caused delay. The manager didn't seem willing to discuss anything about my visit and unable to work with me. I'm fine with paying the tip, especially since the woman doing my nails did a great job, but for a $40 manicure, I would expect more than just what I might get at my local nail salon, which only charges $12. Even their nail color selection is lacking- again, my local salon has about double the amount of colors as this salon does. I cannot even begin to complain about how overpriced the rest of their services are. The place itself is relatively nice and clean but absolutely does not warrant the outrageous prices. We have tried both sides of the spa: massages last year. These were extremely hard to book. The spa itself was beautiful. Nice lounge and we enjoyed the steam room afterward but the massages were rushed and you could tell the ladies giving them would rather be somewhere else. Recently I opted to get the gel manicure... There weren't a lot of color to choose from. The paint job was so unprofessional... Swirly lines of uneven paint... And there were actually little sharp bumps in the polish. My manicurist had no personality either and she seemed almost afraid to use her tools. Way over priced... For that price I expected a much more professional experience . I had a facial here while staying as a guest. It was superb and you get a free full day access to the men's spa. Men's side is a steam and dry sauna and showers and whirlpool. Great lounge with snacks and amenities and secure lockers. Did encounter a rude make attendant. He was a tall black dude who wanted to text on his phone instead of helping me. The other guy was super nice. Take a book and have them order you lunch by the pool. You will need swimming attire for the public pool but the men's spa allows nudity in sauna and wet areas. You get the entire day here as part of your service and you can leave and come back as you want during the 8 hour period. Hotel guests get a 30% discount card. You have to present the card and really make sure they give you the discount. The girl tried to not give me my discount but I reviewed my bill and asked again. read more

Had a terrible massage here. The therapist was very nice, but she talked the entire session (not very relaxing), and I asked her to ignore my legs and focus on my neck. She did the opposite. When I complained to management and asked for a real massage (since my neck was so sore), they had the receptionist tell me no one was available (manager refused to see me). They refunded me the mandatory 15% tip and that was all. I've gotten better massages in a nail parlor. Don't waste your time or money here. read more

I didn't spend much time using the facilities in the spa as I went strictly for the massage, but I found the public areas to be clean and the amenities provided were ample. The deep tissue massage I received from therapist Susan was one of the best I've had! Days later I'm still feeling the good effects. Thank you Susan!! read more
