I first discovered Mandola's at their winery in Driftwood and have been a fan of theirs ever since. So, I was so excited to discover their Hill Country Galleria location closer to my Casa that also happens to have a dog friendly patio. After a crazy day it was so nice to sit out on their patio in the warm sun with my pups and enjoy a glass of Merlot while devouring a fancy grilled cheese. I got the Caprese Panini toasted on homemade focaccia with homemade mozzarella, thick cut tomatoes, fresh basil and EVOO and added prosciutto for 1.00 extra. In the past I have had the Frito Misto App and it has always been a hit: fried Mozzarella, Zucchini and rice croquettes (mixed with prosciutto, peas and mozzarella) served with a yummy marinara. And, their Minestrone always hits the spot on a cold day! Their market is a great place to stop for goodies before a picnic or a day out on the lake. read more

Went to location in Bee Cave a few nights ago. Not what I expected. It is more of a cafeteria type environment, rather than a "sit down" restaurant. You walk in and order from a counter, carry your own drinks away, get your only dinnerware and paper napkins, but they do bring your food to the table. The decor is very cluttered and overly cheesy (no pun intended). Given the setting, I would expect the prices to be a bit lower especially given the quality of the food and portion size- $11 for a pretty small bowl of Fettuccine Alfredo that was OK but honestly not any better then I've had from a frozen box and 4 buck add on for a "salad" (small amount of lettuce with one piece of tomato and one olive - will say the creamy parm dressing was yummy). The free bread is ADDICTIVE, but pretty greasy. The "market" part is a joke. Overpriced and offer nothing you can't buy at Central Market or even an HEB. Had to sample the gelato and it was legit. Might go back for a quick lunch sometime, but certainly there's better Italian food in this area?! Cons: overpriced (hubby and dropped $40 for the two beers and dinner), small portions, cafeteria feel, not the best quality food. Pros: very kid friendly if that's a plus for you (even have diapers in restrooms), lots of gelato flavors and other pastries, quick dinner (like fast food), all staff was really friendly. read more

My husband and I frequent this location when we are in the Lakeway area. We love it just as much as their central Austin store...same cozy atmosphere, same great food, same pleasant staff. I love how there's always families here dining in and/or eating on their outside patio even when it's later in the evening. Recently, when I was eating a late dinner there around 10 minutes before closing time, the staff came around and gave everyone deviled eggs and baked quiche on-the-house to take home. Um, yes. Entree size salad was more like side salad sized with lukewarm grilled chicken. Fettuccine alfredo tasted like microwave Lean Cuisine. The spaghetti sauce that came on the spaghetti and meatballs was watery and orange instead of red!? Only plus is that the food came out fairly quickly. read more

I remember the first time I tried Mandola's several years ago (at the Triangle location) and being impressed with the food. Maybe my tastes have changed or perhaps this location isn't as good, but my dinner here tonight seemed rather pedestrian. I'm not saying it's plummeted its way down to Olive Garden's level - not even close. But the meal did feel closer to chain-quality than I'd remembered. I will give them credit for having great bread, but when that's the highlight of my Italian dinner, that's a bit disappointing,. The gnocchi was sort of plain and needed more sauce which also could have used more meat in it. I realize this stuff is handmade and ingredients are getting more expensive, but for $13 they really could have eased up on the skimping. She is the reason I'm giving this place 3 stars. We forgot one step paying for our ice cream, which happened to be the tip, and she called us back over and said "I just wanted you guys' eyes as witness to see this, but I'm pressing okay on the no tip." I was in the area for the day and as craving Italian and decided to stop in to this casual place. Being from Houston, I have been to most of the Mandola family restaurants. The first thing that caught my attn was a sign while waiting to order for homemade italian sausage. I ended up ordering the Italian sausage panini. This really isn't the typical panini by any means since it comes with thick bread and isn't pressed flat on both sides or toasted. The sausage is pretty good though. Most homemade Italian sausage is going to be good anyway. I thought the gelato scoops were kinda pricy for the size you get. They also sell beer and wine. read more

They have a lunch menu M-F 11-3PM! You can get personal sized pizza with a choice of soup or salad for $7, or a half (dinner portion) of pasta with a choice of soup or salad for $9! I ordered the Spaghetti & Meatball lunch with Italian Wedding soup - it was delicious... and the pasta tasted freshly made, the meatballs were really fresh as well. My friend ordered the Half Sandwich + Soup lunch special with the Hero, and the sandwich had a good portion of deli meats... We went here for a group lunch, we had about 8 ppl and still finished in under an hour. The portions are good for the price. The only thing I would suggest is, if you decide to go with the Mista Salad, you may want to ask for your dressing on the side... the ppl in our group that ordered the salad mentioned that it was over dressed. read more

I have lived in this area for nearly six years and regret that this was the first time I visited this resturant. When I first moved here the reviews were in the 3-Star range which probably discouraged me from stopping in. But I am giving them a full 5-Star rating today. I originally thought this was a Pizza resturant only, but found that they have a variety of wonderful authentic Italian dishes, an Italian deli and even some very flavorful gelato. The manager, Christian, was also a very classy personal guy. He has been the manager for the last two years and is clearly a big factor in the rating improvements. Thank you for the great experience. So this afternoon 3:30 I took my wife to Mandolas for a really early dinner ( the same one we have about once a month ) . There were few people there in the front room which is why we go early . The rolls and salad didn't arrive so I sought out the person at the counter who turned out to the " general manager " he said and he said the bread would be right out . When it didn't arrive I asked again and then told him to turn down the music . This obviously offended him especially since I pointed out I was the customer and he then told me to say please or leave . I absolutely enjoy eating out at Mandolas to the fullest! You have your delectable pizzas and pastas and fun italian sodas and are served bread AND you have a desert bar to have the option to buy italian treats AND the Gelati bar! So we've tried a good number of dishes and the lasagna is amazing! Very tasty! This cheese is the real deal=very strong. Also the chicken parmigiana is one of my faves. You can't go wrong with any of the choices really. And the Italian Cream Cake is my favorite treat. The Gelati: almond and coconut are my favorites. Like I said, you can't go wrong. We also really like the pizza. It's so authentic! Plus, you can buy their fresh pasta noodles and fresh cut meatspace DB cheeses. They also have their own wine vineyard so you can buy bottles here. I could eat the bread with the dipping oil all by itself and be content. It's always so soft and fresh. I've tried a few dishes and you can taste the fresh ingredients. The complementary focaccia bread that they bring to your table while you wait is a family favorite and often the deciding factor of why we select Mandola's for dinner in the first place. I know, I know its an Italian restaurant but I go here for one of the best fried chicken in Austin (Damien's Chicken man); only every Saturday, capish? They also have an Italian deli; I have bought my olive oil and Italian deli meats here, not to mention pasta. Oh they have a gellateria also so the kids can and parents can enjoy some great gelato! The service is always great here, they have an order and pay before you sit down kind of service, really a very unique and efficient way to deal with the regular long lines they have here. Look for Mr. Christian manager, expediter all around good guy! Let's me also mention Mr. Miller also the manager who is also a friendly and helpful person. Can't believe it took me a year to find this place!!! Wow this became my favorite Italian restaurant. We ordered a little too many items but couldn't stop eating! The bread is magical and I loved the spaghetti meatballs as well as the margarita pizza my wife got. Then as I couldn't take in any more, the manager came over with a plate of the Tortellini Modo Mio because he overheard me asking the waitress about it and thought I might like to try it. Who does that!? And it was incredible.
