I'm not sure how this restaurant is rated so highly. We came at 6pm on Thursday. Food was mediocre at best. I had eggplant parmesan which I normally love at most Italian restaurants. The eggplant was soggy and the side pasta was cold. Hubby had chicken parmigiana which was also underwhelming. Kids had kid's fettuccine alfredo () and kid's ravioli. The ravioli dish was the only one that was enjoyed. Summary: disappointing and not worth the drive from Steiner Ranch. Ps. I've eaten at the Lamar location several years back. Popped in for a quick Sunday supper, extremely hungrily - love the relaxed vibe, the Italian regional flags and the Valpolicella - the bruschetta was excellent, the calamari was definitely not. Portions were so gigantic that despite raging hunger we boxed up our mains to go before we'd finished our apps! I've been coming to Mandola's since they opened in the Triangle while I was in college in the mid 2000s. I live near Lakeway so I come to Bee Cave now. I used to love the food here but is has really gone down hill ever since they started opening up additional locations. Maybe it's just the Bee Cave restaurant. Maybe it's because Damion crashed his golf cart at a winery and fled to Italy to avoid charges for stealing wine and slashing tires. Whatever the reason, it's not what it used to be. read more

Every time I go here I'm consistently impressed by the level of quality that this place has; let alone the knowledgeable staff who help me navigate the food & wine menu. When I came in an employee named Dominic greeted me and saw that I was unsure of what to pick out, and after getting some basic questions into what I preferred in wine & pizza he hooked me up with an amazing pinot paired with one of the best pizzas I have had in a very long time. Eat here all the time. Haven't had a bad meal yet although sometimes their bread is hit or miss. The best fried mozzarella I've had. Salads are great, sandwiches are great, pizza is great. It's tough being so consistent but these guys have it down (except for bread sometimes!). read more

This is my favorite dependable quick serve Italian restaurant. And believe me, the food quality is well above that of a quick service place. This is the place where I bring the out of town visitors. Lasagne is excellent. I never really cared for lasagne. Ever. Even in some of the finest Little Italy joints. This place changed my mind, but set the bar pretty high. The free focaccia is nice bonus. But my favorite dish has to be the Parma pizza. Often imitated, but never duplicated. Many restaurants have their own version here in Austin. But none of them can come close to the delicate balance of this minimalist pizza. Fast food that doesn't taste fast. The service is always good. Never had them screw up an order. Never encountered a rude soul. The lemonade tastes homemade. Meatballs that make you say, "mamma Mia!" Desserts so good, it'll give you good reason to undo your belt and button. With all this in mind, remember; taste is subjective. What's "too salty" for one is bland for another. So, grab the fam or friends and go! read more

This place is so cute! Stumbled upon Mandola's while out running errands. Had a great experience with Nathaniel who is the cashier. He was so kind and informative on all the options. Very disappointed when restaurants try to get the bleach going before they close the doors to restaurant patrons. I walked in 45 minutes before the closing time (8:15) on Sunday. A very reasonable time to go to dinner .. there were at least 4 tables eating and the place smelled like cleaning products .. and not nice ones .. I don't love smelling bleach when I'm eating . Maybe I am the only one, I don't know. Seems logical. I recommend if you want to go home early go ahead and lock up the doors so nobody comes in while you are cleaning . read more

Let it be known that I love Mandolas. I lived on 45th street and went to the location at the Triangle at least twice a month and anytime a guest wanted good Italian food. When I moved out to HWY 71 I was super excited to see another location close by. I went tonight, and I was very let down. I went with my fiance and his brother, and we all shared a table number. I paid my $21 for eggplant parmigina and Merlot and waited for my food. My fiance's brother's food came quickly, shortly followed by my fiance's. I figured my food would be there soon, no biggie. I was wrong. Bread wasn't even available to me until 20 min after sitting down. The boys shared their food with me and we continued waiting. When they finally brought my food, after I had watched people seated way after us receive their food, the server tried to not even acknowledge that it was extremely late. I had to point out the fact that the rest of my party had already finished eating. He apologized, took the food away, and took it off my bill. I was never approached by a manager, and I never ate dinner. My fiance and his brother had delicious food, the bread was overbaked, and I am hoping that it is better when I try again. If it is, I'll update this review. It may be worth the drive to go to another location. read more

We've been loyal Mandola's fans for years and have eaten here more times than I care to admit (like weekly for a while), but our last experience is disappointing and downright sad. It's almost like they hired a consulting firm to tell them how to make more money and be more "efficient," and the effects are disastrous. They've made significant changes in their portions, what seems like serving half of the portion they served last year, but the prices have stayed the same or gone up. They now dole out measured servings of their yummy herbed olive oil, instead of having it self serve. There is no love in what the food looks like coming out; like they just threw it in the bowl. A lot of our favorites, including the gnocchi, have been removed from the menu. But that's not the half of it. When we were there, we witnessed an employee getting yelled out AT A TABLE in the main dining room. Literally, the supervisor and the employee were sitting at a table near the restrooms where customers were sitting. We could see the supervisor showing the guy evidence of his misbehavior with incriminating photographs. The employee wouldn't even look the guy in the eye, he just stared straight ahead. I don't blame him. It was humiliating for everyone. No wonder there is no love in the food. When we went to get our kids gelato, there was a manager-type manning the dessert area. At first he didn't want to help us and called another person over. Then he did want help us, but didn't want to give our kid one of the cookies in the gelato, saying with a crappy attitude that they were "part of the gelato display." He later made the rounds in the dining room, going from table to table asking people disingenuously how they were doing. He walked right past our table and didn't say a word. Another manager-type (I say this because there were a few guys not wearing the uniform, but instead nicer clothes) was busy standing near the serving area checking Facebook on his phone. It's just too bad. Our entire family has enjoyed eating at Mandola's for many years. Heck, we've even celebrated birthdays here. Not any more. It's just a bummer to be in this place. read more

The food was incredibly salty though we did like the bread and they were kind enough to bring out extra marinara to dip the bread in. My toddlers ravioli was covered in Parmesan so we had to scrape it all off to get him to eat it. The music in both bathrooms was exceedingly loud. The service was excellent. I got their hero sandwich. The bread was old and there was zero oil and seasonings. Not as described. It was dry and I could not eat it all.

Mandola's is a nice addition to the area and my hubs loves their crispy thin pizzas. I appreciate their gluten free options and salads. Their focaccia bread and olive oil dipping sauce is sinfully good for those lucky enough to eat gluten. The only reason I left three stars is because for the price I wish they had full waiter service and a gluten free pizza option would be stellar. The whole stand in a long line for someone to end up bringing my dinner to my table is annoying. If they had waiter service I'd give them 5 stars as we've always really liked their food. Well I just dont know how to begin this...Lets just say, dont go to this place. I mean, ok ok, the atmosphere of the place was pretty decent. But our waiter literally hated his job. When he set down our dishes, they practically broke in two from his fury. and the food (all dishes delivered to our table) was undercooked and I could not even finish my pasta. My experience with the Bee Cave location was from an afternoon at the barn. Had been craving their pesto pasta with chicken, stopped by for a ToGo order... I felt that was more appropriate then sitting at a table with the essence of eau de equine on my person. When I got home (less than 10 minute drive). I sat down at my own table (the cat doesn't mind the barn funk), and dove into my dish. The chicken was EXTREMELY dry, the pasta was sticky, and the sauce was lacking. This is NOT what I remember from my beloved Triangle location! I've toyed with giving it another try, but the offending dish was probably enough to make me want to spend $5 in gas just to drive in town to the other location. read more

When my husband and I first discovered Mandola's a year ago it was great. Certainly not "fine dining" and-- like most of Austin's Italian restaurants--not wonderful cuisine, but it was fine and fun for the price. They must have changed chefs or management, though, because 2 recent visits this summer were very disappointing. The menu has changed, eliminating our favorite fritto misto and cannelloni, and each time the food was overly salty. Staff and service are nice and friendly, but be warned that it gets very noisy when there are a lot of families with young kids and the restaurant can get quite dirty. We STILL need a great Italian restaurant in Austin. (I'm from New York and have traveled fairly extensively in Europe so I'm admittedly a little picky!) Just wish this place was better... or at least as good as it used to be. read more

My mother and I stopped in today because we just wanted to try a new place to eat! We were instant fans. All of the people who work here, from the gentleman who took our order, the waitress who delivered our food to the bus "boy" who cleared our table, all were friendly and welcoming. The focaccia bread was served with with oil and pepper and I could have eaten an entire loaf! We enjoyed eating the speciality of the day, the Cannellon. It was delivered piping hot in stoneware serving dishes to our table. We finished off the meal with a slice of chocolate caramel w, sea salt cake. It was to die for!! . Went here for happy hour and it was probably one of the best deals in Austin for the quality and quantity. Got the Bruschetta Bascaiola, meat and cheese tray, and Pugliese pizza with anchovies. $15 total and it was awesome! Loved the brushetta loaded will all that mushroom goodness. The pizza was extraordinary and loaded with anchovies.....my fave! It is friggin huge for $5. Meat and cheese tray was a miss for me. Did not really seem that special. The olive oil sauce that you can get yourself near the soda machine was really delicious. Scoop the bottom to get all that veggie goodness. Come here for HAPPY HOUR 3-6pm!!! You won't regret it! We had never eaten here--new residents of Bee Cave. It is my wife's birthday and she wanted try it. We were very pleased. Went around 2pm on a Sunday afternoon; busy but several tables available and staff were quick to clear vacant ones of plates, etc. The bits of Italian bread and an olive oil dip were terrific. I told the waitress that if they had nothing else I'd just order more of that! My wife had tortellini and I had eggplant Parmesan. Both excellent. Wife had a cannoli for desert. Pleasant casual dining with excellent food. All around high marks, but special praise to Isabel, our server. I'll keep this one brief. Pros: -Nice atmosphere, especially on outdoor patio. The guy playing the accordion took our song request! -Good Mista salad (after asking them to hold the celery--yuck) -Soft, salty bread -Tasty noodles -Mint chocolate and chocolate hazelnut Gelato, and the guy serving it. He was a delight. Cons: -Somewhat unprofessional staff: felt pressure to buy wine from the inappropriately firtacious cashier; bussers and waiters had an "it's not MY job" type of attitude when we asked them for things. -Salad came out before our bread and utensils. -Accordion was so loud outside that I had to ask my boyfriend to repeat EVERYTHING. -My spaghetti carbonara was too salty (but otherwise delicious--I ate it all). I am giving this place all the stars because of service. Food is pretty good too! We headed out 8 adults and 8 kids. It was Friday happy hour and we all got there early at 4pm. Went up to the line and ordered and it was a fantastic deal, including a carafe of wine! The food came in 5 minutes. A couple of husbands came late when the place got really crowded and busy. The line for food orders was out the door. One of our friends ordered a beer and they ran out of cold beer mugs so they said they'd bring it to the table. 20 minutes passed and it didn't show. We asked a server about it and he went and got us not 1, but 2 beers, one beer for another guy that arrived way late and didn't order a beer. And even brought him some limes (at a self service restaurant)! Then 10 minutes later, he came back to ask if he can help us with anything else. I think the guy's name is Justin. When we finished and took all 8 kids to get ice cream, the guy behind the counter was more than helpful and nice. What I had expected to be a chaotic happy hour outing, it turned out to be fantastic. The service is excellent. The food was very good, we ordered 7 pizzas for our table and had very little left overs. The bruschetta was a table favorite...cherry tomatoes and a spread over toasted bread. Seemed simple but delicious. The garlic fries were great too. Gelato, one of the best in town. I love the market/deli atmosphere of Mandola's, and it's become a regular destination for us, especially on nights when the accordion player is around. The food tastes fresh and authentic, and the service here is *top-notch.* Everyone from the guys behind the deli who cut up cheese and meat to the food runners to the gelato scooper is unfailingly helpful and friendly. My two complaints are that they occasionally oversalt their dishes (the main offenders are the soups and a few of the pasta dishes) and that they've been messing with some of my favorite dishes. The baci di dama cookies in the pastry case were my favorites, and then they stopped making them. Then, they went and combined the zucchini fritti (our favorite appetizer) with the calamari fritti (which my husband won't touch with a ten foot pole). And apparently the way its prepped doesn't allow special ordering with just the zucchini. I wish they'd thought about seafood allergies, vegetarians, or kosher diets when they made this change. :( Anyway, it's not so bad to bring the rating down since the service is so great, but we may cut back our visits if they continue to tweak the menu this way. read more

On our first trip to this restaurant, we walked in and felt immediately comfortable. It very much feels like a cafe/market in Italy. It is a warm, friendly, family place. It has everything from Italian market items, a homemade gelato bar, Italian bakery items, and great food. We had pizza and the grilled chicken panini; both were taste perfection! While waiting for our food, they served us a large basket of the best fresh baked garlic bread, with oil and balsamic to dip in. We loved our lunch, the service was excellent and we will definitely be regular diners. read more
