I have eaten here several times over the years. Mandu is in the 69th St. area where H Mart is located. The restaurant is grabbing go you can eat in the food court. The front area of the restaurant is very clean. The menu is laid out nicely above head on monitors. I was unable to get a clear view of the back where the food is cooked. Sundae(blood sausage) with rice was unique I enjoyed it. I also tried a crispy fried chicken with rice and vegetables that I found delicious with chicken was cooked to perfection. 1. The goon mandoo here is better than J's BBQ in Honolulu (though I do miss you, meat jun/mandoo combo!). I am convinced that they double up the wrappers to make the perfect thickness for frying. 2. They have the SPLIT BOWL here. Obviously, Korean Noodle House is going to have better jajjangmyun (it has myun=noodle in its place name), but this is an excellent option when I can't go to Cheltenham. 3. Everything comes on a doily. I don't know why eating fried food on a doily (in a food court) amuses me so much, but it does. read more

Three years ago I wrote a review saying I'd be back. I've been back numerous times. Here's what you need to know. No matter what I get here in this food court, I make it an absolute point to stop here for the dumplings now. I'm addicted to them. I get the packages they sell from the counter which are quite fresh. Veggie or pork, it doesn't matter. Both are phenomenal. Might be best dumplings I've ever had. They're 5 star worthy dumplings. I've had the half jjajangmyun half jjampon noodle and it was quite good. Price is reasonable- 8.50 after tax. I personally prefer the jjajangmyun over the other one, but there's little protein in it so I'm just gonna order the seafood jjajangmyun alone next time. Jjampon is also good with lots of squid (shrimp was not very fresh, but what can I expect from food court food). Overall, I would come back. read more

I was craving jjajangmyun today so two of us dropped by Hmart Food court, our staple spot for quick Korean food. I ordered the gan jjajang which was pretty good and filling. I've been to better Korean-Chinese restaurants in the Northeast area but this place is solid for a quick bite in a food court. The owner seems sweet and the food comes out pretty fast. I visited on Sunday afternoon. I ordered 6 pieces of Mando. The two casher kept coughing while they were steaming my foods. I thought I should get a refund, but I was in my traditional mode that means I couldn't ask take the food back nor get a refund. They stopped coughing when they took another order. I felt like they intentionally contaminated with my food. .. Do they know that they are spreading their germs?? Do you know I was not aware of behavior? I will definitely stay away from this particular restaurant due to the lack of sanitation. I am sorry I gave you a one star but I take my food matters seriously and my food sanitation. You come here for four things: jajangmyeon, black bean noodles, including all its derivatives; jjampong, spicy seafood noodle soup; tangsuyuk, koreanized chinese sweet & sour / orange chicken or pork; and kkanpunggi, koreanized breaded sweet & spicy chicken morsels. Believe it or not, there are places that will mess up these basic staples of koreanized chinese dishes. This place is far and away not like them and THE BEST in the area. Now, if you come here and order anything else on the menu, like "normal" Chinese food or dumplings (despite its namesake), you, my friend, like to live dangerously. I came cuz of the great reviews and I wanted to pick up some of my new Korean addictions at the Hmart. The woman at the counter is super sweet and lovely- I only picked up a king size dumpling because I was in a rush, it is a steamed bun style and is sooo Delicious!!! Even after two days in the fridge. So different than any type of dumpling I have ever had -veggies,pork, cellophane or potato noodles I believe, tofu and everything else! Very tasty and huge one by itself can fill you up no problem. I am a big eater and I felt satisfied. And $1.90+tax perfect! read more

So it looks like I'm the second Anthony W. to review Mandu Roo with 3 stars at that. It's okay... I don't need a prize... unless you're gonna give one. I don't even know how I ended up here, but my curiosity about this place is satisfied after having passed by the outside for years. It's a shame I can't tell you the name of what I ordered (19, 20, 21?)... but I'll describe it. Chicken and rice fried up to a spicy orange color with plenty of chilis and chili peppers and other well chopped inoffensive little pickled vegetables with some mysterious sides (daikon maybe?). It came out on a steaming hot skillet... definitely not what I'd expect from a food court, but I liked it. The skillet itself had seen better days, but it beats styrofoam by a mile. So I caught up with an old friend and ate about half of my food there. Despite having a half swollen mouth and a fresh wisdom tooth, I thought the food was pretty good. The condiment options were either fish oil, soy sauce, chili oil sauce, and more crushed chilis. It wasn't until I ate the rest a couple of days later with some duck sauce packets I had in the fridge that it really came to life! I prefer fresh Asian food especially authentic. I'm not sure what the consensus is on the authenticity of duck sauce, but it saved the day. I say that because what was offered here is what I usually see offered in Chinatown and in South Philly. I think they had a pork belly (or maybe regular pork) version of this dish that's no longer served. That's what I really wanted. It probably would've been 4 stars. read more

Disappointed in the 6 for $4.99 "steamed" dumplings. Ordered to eat-in, they were microwaved in the saran wrapped package. Without much moisture in the package they were dry and rubbery. And the dough was really thick, too. Also, if these were homemade they were remarkably consistent, almost machine-like in their uniformity. Maybe I ordered wrong here. read more

Decent Chinese-style Korean food, similar to the kind found in the north-eastern region of China (Manchu) bordering Korea. As with the other H Mart food court spots, the food here is clearly a cut or two above what you would expect for fast food. My favorite is the spicy fried chicken -- breaded and fried, then cooked with a tangy sweet-spicy sauce, served hot-off-the-stove with generous helpings of rice. They also have a nice selection of dumplings and steamed buns, both Chinese and Korean style. Their jjajang noodles are worth a try -- cooked with a dark and savory sauce that's found in both Chinese and Korean cooking. They also have some distinctly Korean options, like the kimchee dumplings and various hot soups and noodles. The items are prepared with care and the quality is consistent. We came here because we were hungry for dumplings and I saw them make them by hand. So, of course we ordered dumplings and entrees. My friend ordered fried dumplings and General Tso's Tofu (which they easily exchanged tofu instead of chicken). I had steamed dumplings - pork and vegetable and Jeng-Ban-Ja-JANG FOR 1 (Pan fried noodles with shrimp in black bean sauce.). It was HUGE. And tasty. The girl at the counter probably thought we had a BIG party coming, as it was a lot of food. All very good. The girl at counter wasn't surprised when we got "to go" containers. I come to this food court spot for the Jam-ja myun - the split bowl of jajang-myun (noodles with black bean sauce) and jam-pong (spicy seafood broth with noodles). They are both good - the noodles are decent, good chewy texture. The broth in the jam-pong is spicy and mouth-watering good, with great flavor. It has a good mix of veggies and seafood in it. It's perfect to order this dish to share with my 2 year old - I get my spicy fix with the jam-pong and my 2 year old eats up the noodles and makes a huge mess and we both leave happy. My husband gets the kan-poongi, which I think they do really well here. I'm korean, and it reminds me of my mom's. Servings are generous here, a great value for quick korean deliciousness. read more

They make tasty Korean-style Chinese food. I love their shrimp dumplings which have lots of shrimp and garlic chives. They make great noodle dishes. The menu on the wall is really two menus. The top two rows show Koreanized Chinese food and I stick with that. The bottom rows which appear in your local Chinese takeout are the Americanized Chinese food. Most diners need a box for half their food. I usually go after the gym so I finish my shrimp dumplings. read more
