So here's the good: the restaurant was clean and they had some ok choices on the menu. The not so good: while I can appreciate the fact that someone likes horses, this theme will not resonate with everyone, including myself. Based on the name and logo this would not have been a place at which I would've chosen to eat if it were not in the same shopping area as crumbl cookies and we decided to just go ahead and eat here as opposed to driving down the street to Firehouse. The restaurant it replaced (Which wich) was much better and had more creative sandwiches. If they left, I'm not sure how this place is going to succeed. The service here was ok, a bunch of kids, not very friendly. The decor as someone else stated is very sparse and appears to be maybe family photos involving horses? A bit awkward. And the music was not pleasant and way too loud. It didn't even suit the decor. With Firehouse down the street, I won't be returning to the Mane Course. Sorry. read more

What a wonderful establishment! You begin with being greeted by cheerful order takers (two different young women on the two days we visited there in one week), who are trained to emphatically ask if you would like a pickle with your sandwich . Assuming that the pickle would be either enormous - or - extremely unusual in taste, shape, or color, it was underwhelming in a funny way that all that showed up on the tray was a typical slice of pickle found in the majority of sandwich shops/deli's/restaurants across the country. Aside from the quirky pickle situation, the service is outstanding and the sandwich size quality and taste produces an excellent well priced lunch experience. It appeared to be a family owned and run lunch restaurant with the owner and/or father of some or most of the employees. Very congruent group. Service and Food was so well done that after it being highly recommended to us as out of towners by locals, we in turn introduced Mane Course to another out of towner a couple of days later! read more

When we heard Jack Johnson as we walked in the door, we knew we weren't in a regular sub shop. Our Under Saddle sandwiches with pickles and chips were fresh and not too heavy for lunch. Glad we followed their signs coming into Charlottesville. read more

The bread is very good and the service was very friendly. Sweet tea was excellent! The sandwiches are completely average, nothing special at all here. The prices led me to believe it would be special or somehow unique but it was underwhelming. The decor is sparse and horse themed. read more

We ordered to-go. The Mediterranean nachos were just not good. My boyfriend described the gyro meat as "rancid." Personally, I wouldn't go that far, but I do feel like they stole $10 from me. It was really just a salad with some chips and some weird meat. I'm not sure what composed the meat, but it wasn't good. It tasted like lamb prepared by someone who didn't know how to prepare lamb. And I will say it's easy to mess up lamb. Whatever this mystery gyro meat was, it was messed up. I had the Nashville Hot Chicken wrap. My fiancé had the Nashville hot chicken cheesesteak. It was basically the same thing except mine was in a tortilla and his was twice as long on bread. It was medium at hottest. I mean no bite at all. My sweet mama who can handle NO SPICE, wouldn't have thought it was spicy. Also, Nashville hot chicken is fried. This chicken was grilled. My fiancé and I are currently debating what sort of sauce was put on it. He guessed Buffalo or Tabasco, but I don't think so because it literally had no kick at all. It definitely had the runny texture of Tabasco, but the flavor of...the most mild taco sauce in the world. If you've ever eaten at a Taco Johns (where are my fellow midwesterners?) it tasted like their mild taco sauce. There is hardly any meat on the sandwich. They get a big price. $19.13 for a sandwich with a soda . That is a ripoff. Service is very good but they have to. The taste is fine but the meat portions offered on the three sandwiches we ordered were comically small. My so-called Philly Chicken Cheesesteak had less than a half inch of actual chicken. I don't know where these negative comments came from because this place it LEGIT! Huge sandwich, fresh crusty bread, a REAL dill pickle, quality luncheon meats and cheese, very nice sub sauce and of course the usual tomato, lettuce and onion condiments...super delicious! Definitely, worth the cost and not at all overpriced for the quality. One cannot compare this to Subway or any other franchise deli sub restaurant because Mane Course is 10 times better. I was excited to try this place as they have vegan and vegetarian options that are clearly marked on the menu. I tried the plant-based meatball sub and it was pretty darned good. My wife had the fresh avocado veggie sandwich; we determined that you should definitely add cheese to that sandwich, if you aren't vegan, because it tasted like it was really missing...something. I am also docking a star because the smoothie we ordered had absolutely no flavor; it tasted like crushed ice. All in all, it is nice to have a deli shop in the neighborhood with vegetarian options. read more

I was initially excited when I read the menu and saw "vegan Philly cheesesteak" but when I went to place my order they asked me if I wanted white or wheat bread. So I asked which was vegan, to which the checked and not a single bread they carry is vegan. They all had eggs or dairy in them. So now I'm concerned they do not know what plant-based and vegan mean. They asked if I wanted the sandwich on a salad and I did not want to chance it. The "vegan" Philly cheesesteak is served on dairy or egg bread which means it is likely the "plant-based" chicken and "vegan" cheese was not actually vegan. My coworkers were all eating there so I ended up with a bag of chips. I do not recommend this place to vegans. It should be okay for vegetarians but the fact they are offering a "vegan" sandwich on egg or dairy bread is false advertising and could lead those with dairy intolerance to having allergic reactions. I gave two stars for the effort of trying to make vegan and vegetarian options, but they still have a ways to go in understanding vegan vs vegetarian. read more
