    Delicious house red

Stopping here for lunch was unplanned, which is usually risky in a city as touristy as Florence, but we had a plan. We avoided menus that looked intended for the tourists and we looked for restaurants offering Tuscan classics like Pappa al Pomodoro and Ribollito and our plan worked. Mangiafuoco was a great choice that hit all the right notes. We enjoyed our two new favorite Tuscan bread soups, Pappa al Pomodoro with tomatoes and Tuscan bread, and Ribollita, with bread and vegetables. Both were hearty and delicious that were a welcome change from all the meat we ate the day before. I don't normally like the unsalted bread in Tuscany, but the basket brought to the table was used to mop up every last drop of both soups. We had a side of roasted potatoes and a bottle of house red wine that was inexpensive and delicious. We didn't get dessert because we had other plans, but we thoroughly enjoyed the meal and definitely would recommend it for lunch.

Really enjoyed ourselves here. Food was wonderful. Pastas and raviolis were delicious. Atmosphere was intimate and lively. Great experience. Would go again.

This is one of of the best places I have been to in Florence. The little restaurant is very cute and small, and it's a small local place. Starting of with the lasagna, after every bite it keeps getting better better and better! It is probably the best lasagna ever. The pesto gnocchi, it was amazing. Also probably the best gnocchi I have ever had. All of the other food is probably great here. I recommend you definitely come here. Please come here!

This restaurant was fantastic! Got recommended it from a friend of a friend. We made reservations for 5 people and got seated early, no problem. They had a great deal for 2 people- the Chianti Classico- where we got Florentine steak, potatoes, appetizers, dessert, coffee, and a bottle of wine for €100 I think it was.

This is the first restaurant we dined in Florence, it was recommended by our hotel'd concierge. It is a small restaurant, it has two floors, and it feels like a grandmother's dinning room. It was busy so service was a little slow, our server spoke English well enough, we ordered a full bottle of wine, but it got lost in translation and got a small bottle, no biggie, as we were able to try another brand as well. I ordered a pasta entrée which was excellent, it had prosciutto, mushrooms and a white creamy sauce. For my second, I had chicken, and my husband had some of the meat they are famous for. I myself am not a steak person so it would've been wasted on me but this is this restaurant's specialty. It smells really good and they bring it in a sizzling tray. My food was very good, The only complaint I have is mostly the slow service. Because they had large parties and they were busy, a party of two such as us really suffered. Other than that everything was great

Homemade pasta with shrimp and asparagus. So plain. Don't get it

Horrible service. Decided to dine at this restaurant because one of the waitresses in the front did a convincing talk about the food and "the pasta is really good" line. Waited over 10 minutes, no one came to take the order. Had to actually tell one of the waitresses that we are ready to order yet she said that her colleague Michael (if not mistaken) will take care of us. Waited some more until he actually came to our table. The food arrived, 3 different pasta/spaghetti dishes. Non of us finished the meals and no, it's not because of the portion. Let just say, the best thing on that table was the water and a free basket of bread. Waited awhile for someone to come to/around the table so we could get the check. Finally got our waiter's attention. He asked "what's wrong?" I told him how bad the service is, asked for another bottle of water from before we started eating until he clears the dishes, didn't get any. The food was plain. (The worst I have ever had to be honest.) He said, "I'm sorry about the water yeah" and left. What a good service mind. Got the check, €33. Gave €50 in cash, ask a waitress to take the cash, at 9:00pm sharp. There's a huge clock in front of me, yes I looked at the time. Waited literally 10 minutes, asked the same waiter who took care of our table for the change, he asked "Did you pay?" Yes, I said. He walked away and came back awhile later to ask the same question if we paid. He called his manager, I assumed and he asked us the same question. Seriously. Don't you communicate with each other in the Restuarant. Bottom line, it took longer than 15 minutes just to get the change alone. I'm giving one star because of the horrible service. The place was small. Not that busy. But it took so long to wait for each thing, from taking order, that another bottle of water that was never served, the check, the change. A big table next to us asked for the check 15 minutes after us and got to leave before we did. And, that the waiter didn't seem to care much about our table. The service was just never there.

I studied abroad this semester and my friends and I found this place one night. From the outside it looks quiet, but the inside is almost always filled with locals. The staff are so patient and sweet and the food it AMAZING. This was by far one of our favorite places to eat! My last week in Florence I brought my parents and they loved every dish they tried as well. Can not say enough good things about this place!

Wild Boar Ragu! This is the only photo I took but it was theeee best pasta!

Best romantic date night in Florence for us. Side story, our last meal was suppose to be at ZaZa, I had researched it before coming to Florence. Well with their host and getting seated was an absolute shit show we walked home. We passed THIS spot every day leaving our apartment and never did I think I NEEEEEDED to come here. So leaving ZaZa with tears and being sad, we walked into here. This places was probably hands down one of my favorite restaurants in the world! You hear me!? We had thee best wine, steak, and one of the best pastas, oh and GARLIC potatoes of our trip! We ordered a coursed steak meal. Crostini's, meats, and cheese, then followed by your own bowl of Wild Boar Ragu (which was my husbands and I favorite pasta collectively of the whole trip) Followed by a giant Tbone Florentine Steak, sizzling in all its juices with garlic potatoes. And I tell you.... by far my husbands and my favorite steak and potatoes ever. I want to know the secret. I didn't see any garlic and not heavily oiled. As if we aren't stuffed after this course haha it comes with our own desserts, and caffe. Thank you for the wonderful date and food, and for being our last meal in the magical place of Firenze

We ordered the 2.6 lb dry aged Florentine steak and gnocchi. The Florentine steak is a must try steak here. It was very juicy, tender, and it was bursting with flavor. The meat was nice and chewy. The steak was gigantic and it is bigger than my head. They first bring out the raw steak and weight it in front of you. The steak is enough to share for three people. The gnocchi was also very delicious. It was cheesy and rich. It was also in a way creamy and the cheese just melted in your mouth. One of the best things I've ever put in my mouth and eaten. The cheesecake is very famous in this restaurant. We tried it and understand why. The cheesecake was super creamy and soft. I had a great time and experience here. Definitely will be back sometime soon hopefully. This is a place I highly recommend to everyone. Come and try it out for yourselves.

He was awesome and had us laughing the entire night. We peppered him with a lot of questions about the menu, he answered everything and also accommodated my father-in-law, who is GF. He had his own GF bread basket and was able to order almost anything on the menu. We ordered a nice bottle of Montepulciano red for the table that was $48. Others had the Hugo spritz. For app I had the anchovies with roasted red pepper, sea salt and oil over grilled crostini, very good. I skipped first course and ordered the ribeye steak for my main course. Bone in, medium rare, sprinkled with sea salt and a side of onion marmalade. The steak was very good and had way less fat than I expected. The waiter suggested a huge steak for the table, but I was the only one ordering steak that night. Maybe next time. Others ordered the fillet and it was cooked perfectly, the angels and demons gnocchi, and the veal scallopini. Everybody was pleased Really cool spot with a very good wine selection, drinks, excellent food and a fun atmosphere that you don't find at many places. Nugo was an A+ server.

Wow, what a special place…read more Set inside a 14th-century tower near the Ponte Vecchio in Florence, this restaurant delivers an unforgettable dining experience from the moment you walk in. The atmosphere alone is worth a visit, but the food is what truly makes it exceptional. We ordered the ravioli, pappardelle with wild boar ragù, the Florentine steak, a mixed salad, affogato, and fresh strawberries with mascarpone cream. To drink, we shared a small carafe of red wine and a Pinot Grigio. Everything was spectacular. The Florentine steak was easily the best--and largest--I have ever had. Perfectly cooked, incredibly flavorful, and remarkably tender, it was the highlight of an already outstanding meal. The pappardelle with boar ragù was rich, hearty, and deeply satisfying, while the ravioli was beautifully prepared and full of flavor. Every dish felt authentic, carefully executed, and memorable. The wine was another pleasant surprise. Both selections were excellent and very reasonably priced, making the meal feel like an even better value. Our waiter was friendly, attentive, and incredibly helpful. He patiently answered questions, explained the menu, and guided us toward some fantastic choices. Although we thought we were too full for dessert, we're very glad we changed our minds. The affogato was fantastic, and the strawberries with mascarpone cream were absolutely delicious. One of the highlights of the evening was watching our four-year-old happily clutching two spoons and enthusiastically scooping fresh strawberries and mascarpone into his mouth. It was one of those memorable family travel moments that you don't forget. A terrific meal, a unique historic setting, excellent service, and a wonderful atmosphere. This was one of our favorite dining experiences in Florence, and I highly recommend it.

I went to the internet for the best Florentine steak and Trattoria Mario consistently popped up as highly rated. I reached out to the restaurant via email to make a reservation for a Friday. I wanted to get the earliest reservation possible, so the restaurant reserved me for 7:30pm, which was when they open. I was advised to show up on time - even a 2 minute delay would make me miss my reservation. I can see why Trattoria Mario was strict on reservations. They open on the dot, and then a staff member calls out each reservation at 7:30pm like a roll call. Seemed to me that if you don't have a reservation then you're out of luck, because there was no waitlist and the restaurant small and space was limited. Service was great. Our waitress was highly attentive and got us in/out of the restaurant quickly, which was what we were going for. Food came out in a timely manner. We ordered the penne al ragu, salad misto, and a Florentine steak to share. The penne was perfectly al dente, and I liked the meat sauce. I did find the pasta sauce salty, but it could've came from the grated parmesan. The saltiness was not a fluke. The Florentine steak was just pure beef and a ton of salt... too much salt for my liking. I also decided that I'm not a fan of Florentine steak in general.

Am I the only one that thought steak florentine was supposed to be served this way? Maybe that's was my mistake but I thought that's how it was prepared in Florence. Anyways, I was immediately suspicious when our waitress asked how we would like our steak cooked and her suggestions were medium or medium well. Uhhhh what? That goes against everything I believe in! The steak came out on a hot stone slab on top of a wooden box. The slab obviously continued to cook the steak so I immediately took off a few pieces to prevent this. The steak was thick and tender with chunks of large salt grains. It looked nice all sliced up but that's where the compliments end. It lacked flavor and ended up cooking to be more medium rare when I grabbed my pieces and then even medium by the time my dad grabbed his second slice. Our waitress seemed annoyed when we asked for the truffle sauce to accompany our steak (my dad forgot to ask for it when we placed our original order) and walked away with a huff to go grab it. The fries came out cold and limp with flavorless truffle shavings on top. I'm not sure why this place has such great reviews. Maybe it got too big for its britches and the quality has declined? The one saving grace was the crema bruciata! And the very understanding hostess who gladly pushed our reservation from 7:30 to 8:00pm due to travel difficulties. Whatever the reason, this place definitely missed the mark. You can't walk three steps without seeing a steakhouse here in Florence. My recommendation? Try one of those.
