We came, we saw, we conquered the bistecca Florentine! Every bite was more delicious than the bite before. We were able to slide into a middle table around 9pm without a reservation. This was a pleasant surprise for me in Florence. I was about to give up hope of finding decent food here. I was shocked how bad the food is. And the reviews for some of the places I went seemed completely disconnected from the meal I had.. Anyway back to this spot. I had the chiantigiana, it was a red wine, pepper, pecorino pasta dish and it was delicious. First time I've had something like that and boy was it good. Totally impressed. I would for sure have that again... We then had some chcilem with Spinach, it was very tasty oo. Maybe a tad salty but otherwise good. Dessert was panna cotta which was very tasty. Went to Angiolino at the recommendation of a friend after a long hot day of touring Florence. This IMO was the best dinner we had in Italy. There is a certain upscaling of every dish we enjoyed at other restaurants in Italy that made the same or similar dish just a tad better! We shared the tomahawk steak, penne, spaghetti and ossobuco with none disappointing. The osobucco was super tender bursting with flavor. The tomahawk was cooked to our perfection seasoned strongly with salt, pepper, rosemary and thyme, so good. The two pasta dishes used fresh pasta and the perfect amount of sauce to make each bite delicious. Unfortunately we had no room for dessert this evening! What a lovely place for our first dinner in Italy. Great food in an informal atmosphere. The Florentinos and a fair number of tourists were there last night. This is a place where you can bring your grandmother and your kids. We split the following: - Fried zucchini blossoms. Excellent. - Panzanella -- bread cubes with tomato + cucumber. Huge portion. Lovely. - Pasta tartufo. Tagliatelle with amazing truffle sauce. Life changing. For dessert my wife had biscotti with vino santo (a Florentine degustation) and I had affogato (vanilla gelato with espresso). Add two glasses of wine and we had a fabulous dinner for 76 Euro. The wait staff was attentive and helpful. The ambience was convivial and the opposite of stuffy. Call to make a reservation ("prenotazione"). Angiolino was busy at 8:00, jammed at 9:00. read more

Americans in Florence! You will need dinner! You will need reservations! EVERWHERE! Angiolino was a lucky find for a guy who is great at making reservations but decided to take one night off... in June, in a city full of tourists... not smart. Luckily we were at the wine hole down the way and Angiolino 13 was kind enough to fit us in. What a lucky break. Yes there are a lot of great restaurants that are on the radar in Florence, but this one is a little off the beaten track but still within the city center. Absolutely outstanding service, and absolutely outstanding food. Our first meal there was so good that we made reservations for our final night in Florence on the way out the door, and that night did not disappoint either. We tried multiple pastas and none disappointed. The osso bucco was amazing as well. A very well appointed wine list that I encourage everyone to take it advantage of as the prices, as you may have found by now in Italy are ridiculously low compared to back home, and not having a nightly bottle of wine with your dinner is a tremendous mistake. Service was fun and friendly, but be warned they don't like to waste time as they are busy all night long. When that menu hits your table, start going through it immediately lol. When I return to this fair city, we will definitely stop in for a third meal and possibly a fourth! Florence dinner spot was recommended by our Home Away host, Guglielmo - wonderful food! Although this is tucked away off the main waterway and won't give you a view of the river or cityscape, don't let that fool you if you enjoy an awesome meal! Personally for me, having a table near the kitchen was a prime location as I saw the Chef cook and make final plate presentations for EVERY main entree being served to guests ... yes he ensured they were all perfect! We shared Caprese with field greens and a fresh Baby Spinach salad with Parmigiano and balsamic, both were enough for 4 of us to have a nice sampling plate. But the highlight tonight were the main courses, Tagliatelle with Bolognese, Seafood Risotto special (one of best I've tasted), and Veal Milanese with fresh tomatoes. Wow, all were amazingly tasty, freshly prepared and served right from the kitchen the moment the dish was ready. My only disappointment was that I wanted a side of pasta and they did not let me order it to pair with my entree, perhaps taking away from the flavors and not complimenting the meat dish - I respect that but still would've liked an extra side. Nevertheless we had plenty of wonderful foods to eat! And of course the Vino de Casa Rosso was Merlot, very easy to drink, smooth and not too heavy. My husband and I dropped in on a Sunday night without checking Yelp first. Yelp should always be consulted. One order of bruschetta, the house white, truffle pasta, and steak rosemary later...disappointment. The steak was fatty with no seasoning. It had potatoes on the side but they were bland and dry. My pasta was covered with truffles - always an awesome sign, for me - but was doused in unseasoned butter. Very underwhelming. The house white wine was good but comes in half carafe for 7 euros. Lunch is amazing. Dinner is a blessing. We had two meals here while we were in Florence. We would have eaten here every day, but we were staying up near Fiesole at Bencista (which is really nice). I have never eaten eggplant in my life. Didn't like it, but I tried my sister's and took it away from her. The eggplant is sliced very thin, breaded and fried. Then the sauce and cheese are placed on it under a broiler. The result will put you in a trance. The specials included a "Florentine" paella. OMG. So good and rich in flavor. The shrimp pasta was great with head-on shrimp so you could suck the great juice from the shell. Buttery and rich beyond belief. Both meals, we sat right by the kitchen and watched the staff prepare everything. Oh yeah, and that Caesar Salad they create is like no other in the world. It is absolutely the perfect fuel for the after-lunch trek back across Ponte Vecchio. Dinner is a little more intimate and very sweet. All the house wines are fantastic. This was our first meal in Florence, we found this trattoria by walking near our Airbnb and were at their door hungry right at opening for dinner. I think for that reason we were surrounded by a lot of tourists but it didn't matter much because it was good food! My spaghetti with arrabiatta sauce was spicy but good and my husband ordered pasta with real truffles and was impressed with how many he got for the price. It was all very fresh. We also ordered the eggplant appetizer which was really tasty! Service is on par with other restaurants in Florence, it was fast but not overly friendly but I think that's generally how places around here are. Food: Good food, open kitchen. Beautiful plates. Interior: NO AIR CONDITIONING, inside has AC but AC in the main room is not on. The day we ate there was super humid and 97 degrees, made the experience very uncomfortable. Waiter does not bother to even explain why they are seating all the customers in the area without AC (AC broken?) Service: Our waiter was rude, ignores your question and walks away multiple times while you are ordering food. We ate at small places without any service before, not just trying to be a whining tourist here. Also saw an angry local Italian customer walked out, and a waiter chased the customer out and continued to argue with the customer on the street, not sure why..... It seems this restaurant gets a lot of customer from people who could not get into II Santo down the street. read more

Whereas other people hunt the real David statue, I hunt food. This led me to Trattoria Angiolino on Santo Spirito. They were advertising Ribollita (€7) and Fagioli all'olio o all'uccelletto (€4). These were rare finds so I was properly excited. They weren't open yet (be prepared for Italian restaurants to appear open but really aren't), so I waited and watched the Tango Spirito dancers for another hour. Finally, their opening hour arrived and I was starving. Reservations are encouraged, but they were able to seat me and my second (my large backpack). I do recommend making reservations for Santo Spirito restaurants. They are very popular and receive much foot traffic. Trattoria Angiolino has a fantastic interior. The exposed stone, murals, Tuscan colors, dim lighting add to its hushed atmosphere. Respectful of this, I glanced around and sneakily took pictures. My food arrived remarkably fast. First was the Ribollita alla fiorentina. Links show that Ribollita means reboiled, was originally leftover minestrone reboiled with bread, and features inexpensive vegetables. It is a simple dish with white, green and muted red colors. There were light Italian spices present. Overall, a simple hearty dish presented with a triple layer of plates. Along with this came bread and cooked white beans. The bread was part of the cover charge (€3). The white beans confused me for a while. Fagioli all'olio o all'uccelletto should come with meat, yet this was just white beans. Then I remembered how I ordered. Oftentimes at restaurants I'll say the beginning of a dish's name so I'm less embarrassed as I butcher the foreign words. The short, bald Italian repeated back to me: "just fagioli all'olio?" I replied affirmatively, therefore I received Tuscan white beans with sage and olive oil. D'oh! They were quite good and satisfying. The bread was dense and chewy. I even mixed the table olive oil with the bread and beans. So good, so smooth. My bill came to €11 which meant they subtracted the cover charge since I erred my order. Thank you for the grace. So, if you're looking for traditional Tuscan fare on an interesting thoroughfare filled with street vendors and possibly tango dancers, go to Trattoria Angiolino. They also serve larger dishes perfect for sharing. read more

We had high hopes with this place but our experience could not have been worse! First off, this place is super touristy. Our waiter barely spoke any english and was snappy and rude. We asked if we could order a carafe of wine, since it was just the two of us. He snapped "No! No carafe! Bottle only!" and pointed to the bottle on our table. We figured that was our only option so we drank it. Five minutes we look around and literally every table in the restaurant is drinking a carafe. Haha. As a vegetarian it was definitely challenging trying to look up all the ingredients in my phrase book. When I asked whether a risotto had meat in it, our server yelled it's "salad risotto, salad, salad risotto!". I ordered it, not wanting to be yelled at anymore, and turns out what he meant by "salad" was "olive". It was olive risotto. I don't even like olives. It was a joke, and really bad. The service was horrible. The food wasn't good. And we spent close to $100. We left hungry and felt like we were robbed. Literally everyone in the restaurant was an American tourist. And most people ordered big platters of steak - so if that's your thing go for it. If you're looking for something simple and authentic then JUST DON'T DO IT. read more

If this place was anywhere other than Florence, I may give it more stars. But surrounded by so many amazing restaurants, it just doesn't measure up. The food was good. It just didn't blow me away. The decor is really cute, it's open and not too crowded like some other places we visited. And the service was attentive. We had a good time talking to our waiter, his English was great and he actually took time to talk to us and to other tables (we got there right when they opened; there were only a few tables occupied at first, it got busy by the time we left). We ordered the Ribollita, a pasta dish, and the meatballs. All were good. We also had a bottle of sparkling wine which was good. Maybe we are just spoiled 6 days into our Italy vacation and we want to be blown away every time. Now with a new management it's literally embarrassing: it smells like sewers, waiters really rude and conceited, food really bad and they deliver it after ONE HOUR and also one dish was missing!!! While we waiting for about 15 minutes for anyone to even acknowledge us, we did get one of the last tables. We were a bit intimidated at first, as the servers were well seasoned, older men, but once we had the English menu in our hands, we were golden! I had the spinach and ricotta ravioli with sage & brown butter sauce - amazing! and then i had the lemon chicken. my husband had a steak which was delicious and we even had leftover for a snack the next day! the bathroom was quite old, small and rather dirty. This was one of our favorite dinners and all of our trip. We knew we wanted to try the t-bone steak that Florence is famous for, and our hotel recommended this restaurant. They called ahead and made reservations for us and we were given a lovely table for two. The house wine was inexpensive and very good. The steak was more than we could've ever expected. The service was wonderful, we felt well attended to and appreciated the guidance provided by the staff. To top it off this was the most economical T-bone steak we had seen on any of the menus in Florence. The dining room is open to the kitchen so it's wonderful entertainment. I have been eating at Angiolino in Florence Italy for almost 20 years and the food was always consistently perfect. Unfortunately, the restaurant was sold around the beginning of the year and the new menu, the new cook and the new owner are as bad as you can get in a horrible tourist trap or bad cafeteria. This is NOT the Angelino of last year, far from it. Here is the long version of our experience. We went there last night (our second night in Florence) and noticed that they had remodeled and all the employees were new. I asked the waitress/hostess if they had a table for us. She almost had a nervous breakdown. After about five minutes I walked to the cashier and asked if they had a table and he said yes. I usually walk away from restaurants that do not have a professional greeting the guests, but my wife insisted that we stay and unfortunately we did. After we sat down, it took the waiter a good 20 minutes to get us the menu and another 15 minutes to take our order and to bring us water and bead. I usually get an order of tomato bruschetta which is very simple dish (chopped tomatoes on grilled bread). They brought two small pieces of cold burnt toasted (not grilled) bread with Parmesan and mozzarella. Needless to say that our twins were so hungry by then that I did not send it back. We ordered a tagliata (steak cut in long thin pieces) for two and Milanese for the twins. After another 30 minutes, the Milanese came but the sides and our dish did not. I asked the waiter and he immediately got the steak but not the sides. The steak was nothing short of horrible; we ordered it rare and it was over cooked in a pan (again not on a grill as it is always done in Florence); it was as bad as you can get. I did not say anything and after another 10 minutes we finally got our side dishes. After the meal, the waiter asked me how the food was and I told him it was not good. He said he is sorry but they have expanded and have to serve 200 people, hence the bad food. He asked me to talk to the owner (which was at the cashier). I tried to talk to him about the experience, but he could not be less interest in hearing about the bad food (I guess he already knew) and was abrassive. I thanked him and walked out. To close, it is a shame to have lost a good restaurant that we loved. The current owner should not be in the service industry and needs to learn to listen to his customers. He also needs to hire a chef that actually knows how to cook or send the chef to cooking school. read more

Best meal in Italy so far! We had no trouble making an 8 reservation, but the restaurant was full- however, it didn't seem overcrowded in the least. The waiters are great and were quick with a joke, but also attentive and helpful. And they have all-English menus in addition to the Italian ones- it was touristy but not AT ALL a ripoff. Now for the food: for appetizers, we got the fried polenta with meat sauce and the artichoke salad with Parmesan (the latter, I think, was a special) and both were phenomenal. The fried polenta was a great deal-6 €, and it could have been the whole meal! The artichoke salad was flavorful and a great texture. for primi platti, we got the tomato bread soup (papa pomodoro) and the rice with asparagus and lemon. The tomato bread soup was not at all creamy, but rich and hearty and I could eat buckets of it. SOOOOOO good. The rice with asparagus and lemon was good, but honestly, I've made better risotto, and I'm not even Italian. If you aren't used to risotto it's good but kind of disappointing if you are. Get the tomato bread soup, or basically any other plate, cause they all looked amazing. secundi platti- we got the special sea bream with artichokes. The fish was flavorful and filleted impeccably, while the artichokes were soft and basically perfect. The person I went with hates the taste of fish, and yet still devoured the artichokes! For dessert, we had the cheesecake. As a native New Yorker, I am picky when it comes to cheesecake, and this satisfied me. I hate it when restaurants not in or near New York try to make New York cheesecake- they always fail. I didn't have one good cheesecake in London (I tried at least 5 New York style ones!) but this was obviously an Italian style cheesecake. I'm pretty sure the cheese was ricotta, and it was super fresh. A success on the cheesecake front! For a 4-course meal with more than enough food for 2 people, it was 73 €. So not cheap but for the amount of food and the quality definitely worth it! Eat here and you won't be sorry! read more

I read some of the other reviews where the service was criticized...but that was not our experience. We were early, 7:30, so perhaps that could be due to the restaurant not being too busy. If there were 6 stars, this place would've gotten a 6! We came late in the afternoon about (2:30). Not a lot of people in the restaurant so we were seated right away. Our server Mauricio (I think that was his name) took great care of us. We ordered from the Chef's Special menu Risotto with asparagus and lemon sauce and the SPAGHETTI WITH PRAWNS AND CLAMS! My mouth is watering just thinking of it and we just left the restaurant 10 minutes ago! I'm a light eater and I started with the caprese salad, ate all of my spaghetti (plus half of my husbands risotto) and did I mention we shared the tiramisu? Best tiramisu I've ever had! Mauricio also gave us a little taste of a dessert wine. A little too sweet for us after that delicious tiramisu (maybe we were too full)! We wanted a trattoria style dinner near our hotel in the Oltarno. The concerige recommended Trattoria Angiolino. It was fabulous. I had a wonderful ribollita to start -- incredibly hearty and good. For dinner, I had the slow cooked beef in red wine sauce. The waiter was a nice older Italian man and helped us pick great dishes on the menu. It's a great place for a good tuscan meal.
