This place could be amazing. However, they are out of everything, and it's Saturday night. They only have one wine available from a list of only a few. They're also out of silverware, but they rustled up some plastic forks. They didn't sell out, they just don't have any inventory. We had what was available, and it wasn't bad, but also forgettable. Was so disappointed in this place. It's cute from the outside and had heard good things about it. Was not good. First thing we walked in and saw the daily special. Meat raviolis, sounds good. Commented to the host, who apologized and said it was from last night. During our meal it was never erased from the board. We sit down and the fan is blowing harder on us than any restaurant I have been in. It was really annoying. We ordered drinks. While sparkling wine is on the menu, they were out. The red wine I ordered tasted like it had been open for few days: not bad but like it was just starting to turn bad. The table was dirty, had sticky red sauce on it. The whole place looked run down, including the faucets in the bathroom were not seated properly. And then there was the food. Tasted like frozen food. I had the lasagna. Food: all over the place. The best thing was the complimentary focaccia. The calamari was mediocre. The steak was good and the mushrooms on it were delightful. The fusilli with baked sausage was nicely cheesy, but the sausage was scarce. The eggplant Parmesan was awful--tough and flavorless, room temperature, with a scant amount of marinara and cheese. The sautéed vegetables served with it were wonderful. Service was incredibly friendly and super slow. The place wasn't busy, so it didn't make sense. We really enjoyed the old building. The high ceilings and beveled glass lend to its character. Unfortunately, the uncushioned wooden chairs lend to back and bottom aches, especially during an absurdly long wait. read more

It took a while to get our food out, which in my mind meant it would be fresh and hot, but sadly it was lukewarm at best, and not as homemade tasting as I would like. Review update: We went on 4/19/2026 at 6:30pm. It was a Sunday night. We went to celebrate our anniversary. There were only 3 other tables seated besides us. We waited a full 5 minutes before we were acknowledged and told to sit anywhere we wanted. We went to a table and waited again, while watching 2 servers walk through the dining room. One finally over came over and greeted us. The table we day down at had some left over straw wrappers still on it. When I mentioned it to the server, she laughed and said, "Oh! Kids were here." Really? That's what you say? We went ahead an ordered our food. They were out of the calamari (I was surprised) and they were out of meatballs -at an Italian restaurant? Ok. Things happen. We ordered the garlic bread and mozzarella cheese sticks/ ravioli appetizer. We split a full size Caesar salad and lasagna. It took 20 minutes for the garlic bread to come out to our table. She also brought out the regular bread which was supposed to come to our table as soon as we sat down. 10 minutes later, the cheese sticks & ravioli, Caesar salad and lasagna came out all at the same time. If I wasn't so hungry, I would have sent back the lasagna and told them to keep it warm. The food was great. The Caesar salad was outstanding. But the whole experience was off-putting. The food was rushed. We should never have had to wait for the bread. We shouldn't have had the salad and the entree come out at the same time. I was disappointed in the entire experience. We came here to celebrate a birthday and one of the drinks had many ants in it, we were not checked on at all throughout the meal other than getting drinks and our food-- even after asking for silverware which we didn't get until after we got our food, and overall it was a negative experience. I've been here before and it's been wonderful, so my family was shocked at the honestly bad service and the unsanitary drink. We were in town for the Oregon 70.3 Ironman race, we were looking for a place to carbo load and happy to have found Mangiare which was short drive from out AirBnb. We had made a reservation for 7 and loved that we had a private room as a we can get loud at times! The Great: Service was excellent and loved the location. Large menu with something for everyone in our group, pasta dishes, chicken, and seafood were ordered and enjoyed. Prices were very reasonable across the menu and quite the bang for the buck. The Good: Food was solid, I had the Gnocchi with added on sausage and meatball. The meatball was very dry and hard though, cooked through till the beef was a bit crumbly but still tasty. The adult beverage menu while not huge had something for everyone to enjoy. The Okay: Other then my dry-ish meatball everything was quite good. When I got the bill there was an extra charge of $6.75 for meat sauce. I figured they would charge me like I ordered the meat ravioli which included the meat sauce. I complained about the extra charge and they removed it, but why charge me in the first place? I feel like it was a classic example of price gouging. There were about 2 bites of squash, 1/8 of cup of peas, and about 2 oz of chicken and no mushrooms with most of it being pasta. It was heavily salted. The complimentary bread was disgusting. Ordered decaff coffee, had to ask for spoon, cream & sugar as these were not served with the barely lukewarm coffee, tasted like instant. Cioppino not served with soup spoon. I made a reservation to celebrate my mother's birthday and specifically requested Hailey as our server because she has consistently been excellent to us in the past. She had the private room ready, made my mom feel special. We ordered wine and soft drinks which were brought out immediately. Unfortunately, everything beyond that was unacceptable. The food took an excessive amount of time to come out. It was incredibly frustrating and honestly embarrassing to watch another table, who arrived well after us receive their appetizers and full meals before we were even served. There was no reasonable explanation for the delay. While Hailey was apologetic and professional, this was clearly a kitchen and management failure. Long wait times combined with poor food quality completely ruined what was supposed to be a special family celebration. Because of the extreme delays and disappointing quality, we will not be returning. A birthday dinner should not turn into a test of patience. read more

what a surprise in the middle of independence, oregon - GREAT italian food! I mean, a total carb fest.... and worth every bite! We'd heard great things about this place but decided (on mother's day) to see about all of this hullabaloo. Am I glad we did!! Everything we tasted was great. from the appetizer of sauteed mushrooms to the unique pasta dishes - every last bit of it was delicious! The salad would have been better on mixed greens rather than romaine with a few leaves of spinach thrown in, but let's be honest, I didn't come here for the salad. My hubs ordered the cheese tortellini ala zucca, which was rich and decadent. My mother ordered the fusilli ala gorgonzola which had just the right amount of tang - creamy, but surprisingly light and 100% yum!! I had the pasta classico - super good, except the shrimp were slightly over cooked. The flavor was spot on! We finished our meal with the panna cotta and the tiramisu. both were excellent - neither were super sweet and just the right amount of delectable! The staff was super nice and the fact that it's in an old hotel, just makes it feel authentic. I love the vibe here! We will certainly be back! read more

Been here a few times years ago and food & service was excellent. This time, the bread was fresh, soft and tasty. Our server was... efficient. The decor is mixed, but quaint - some beautiful elements like the old wooden doors that are used as room dividers, but with 90s sponge painting on all of the walls. Had their chicken fettuccine but it was bland. Friends shared a large calzone. They liked it but it wasn't fancy. Hubs had a pasta with shrimp said it was ok. Yelp offered a free dessert upon check-in but staff was reluctant to honor it b/c although several customers had mentioned it before us, they still "didn't know who authorized it". Eventually they said they would honor it for one of us (out of 4) but didn't have the tiramisu so they would only give a scoop of ice cream. Meh. Felt like the least they could do was honor 1 piece of cake to split but when asked, the answer was No. Will we return? Probably, no. read more

Mangiare was recommend to us by a friend who works in the area. The recommendation was spot on. The restaurant is very quaint and unassuming. Their staff was friendly, knowledgeable, and had just right right level of attentiveness. I had the Baked Sausage Pasta, suggested to me by our server. I was impressed by its flavor and simple presentation. My better half chose the chicken carbonara. She liked the dish, but thought it could use a little more flavor, such as garlic. Their dishes are very much in line with an upscale experience, without the unnecessary expense. We had a great time here last week! I haven't eaten at a restaurant in over a year, but I was visiting a friend in town and us and our partners decided to try their outdoor dining. It was really great. The tables are pretty spaced out, the food was delicious, and the service was phenomenal. They brought lots of bread for us which came with individually portioned olive oil and balsamic vinegar which was super convenient so we weren't all dipping together. The garlic bread only had one marinara pot, but we made it work. The garlic bread didn't stand out to me, but it wasn't bad. The corn chowder was more soupy than chowdery, but still tasty. Two people had the ravioli and made quick work of it. The carbonara had prosciutto and peas in it and was eaten in it's entirety! I can mostly speak to my dish: got the gnocci with vodka sauce and chicken and it was SO good. It had nice big hunks of chicken and mushroom slices with smooth (handmade?) gnocci and a very flavorful sauce. Just amazing. The drinks were alright. The sparkling lemonade unexpectedly had mint in it, which was pretty weird. The wine was ok, but the white and red we tried wasn't special. They had Italian sodas which my partner enjoyed. Our water glasses were never empty! Our server was exceptional. She was so kind and attentive and didn't rush over, she gave us time to get our masks on which felt good, to be able to respect her. This place have lots of potential for growth and improvement. It is located in a prime location and place in time to become really successful. The restaurant is located a short walk from a very new boutique hotel (The Independance Hotel) with soon to be completed condos nearby. It is also located a very short walk from a riverfront park property with venues for culture and community activities. It is perfectly situated for people to enjoy a nice meal and drinks and not have to drive home. Or for the people to enjoy a pre or post activity event dinner at the park. Unfortunately, the waiters and the cooks will need to up their game to leverage this opportunity to be a successful destination restaurant. My wife and I spend three nights at the Independance Hotel touring the area. On our last night we decided to stay in town and give a local restaurant a try. We decided on this one as everything else seemed to be fast food or pub food oriented. We ordered the following: Tiramisu, Seafood Pasta, Clam Linguine, antipasti, glass each of Pinot Nor, Pinot Gris. They served us free bread with oil and balsamic vinegar. I had the clam linguini, my wife the seafood pasta. The noodles (linguini pasta) on both of our dish were over cooked to the point of being mushy. The shrimp, clams, and mussels were all over cooked. Shrimps were gummy and the clams all but disappeared. My dish had no clam flavor. Lemon juice and hot pepper flake were the only flavor. The cook used canned clams and there were plenty in the dish. But no flavor and it too was cooked to the gummy texture. I didn't bother to eat any of my wife's seafood dish after trying one of her shrimp. We normally swap to try the other person's meal. I did notice her dish had lots of rosemary flavor with capers...but her noodles were mushy too...at least there was an attempt to have different flavor profile for different dishes... The antipasto lacked finesse...wish I had taken a photo. Big pieces of whole dill pickels and pepperccoines accompanying some rolled cured ham and slices of salami with provolone cheese. Pre-Shredded parm was sprinkled with likely bottled Italian dressing. Olives were ok. Informed our waiter, Frankie, that the food was bad...he was pleasantly polite and seemed sincere in hearing my critique. He said the main cook was off that day and why the dishes was bad. He conferred with another woman and they took half off our entrees...should be noted, Frankie appeared new and young...he said he din'nt drink wine or know much about the wine when we asked him about the wine on the wine list while placing our drink order... The Yelp check-in freebie half tiramisu would have been ok if for not the heavy pile of coco powder dump on it. I asked Frankie if he was the one who dressed it and he said no and offered that he did also noticed it was excessively heavy with coco powder. I asked him if he saw that, why did he still served it? He just said he was sorry. Despite the lack of expertise, skills, and experience by Frankie (he spilled sauce off the plate onto the table while serving my dish), I still gave him a nice $ tip...I hope they improve...I hope Frankie took this as a lesson learned and move forward and be more successful as a member of a successful waitstaff... Our meal cost $50...would have been well over $75...not worth it at all... So...sorry to the readers This is long and not well edit. On my iPad away from home still. read more

This place was super fabulous precovid but has definitely lost its charm. The food is extremely bland and the waitstaff is either clueless or uninterested in the job. We came in last night and ordered a pasta dish and pizza. We were there for 1.5 hours. Pasta was over cooked and missing some components, no lemon flavor, and despite many capers being in there they were absolutely drowned by tomato. Grossest meatball ever. It took over an hour to get pasta and a pizza. There were a handful of other patrons who ordered before us so it's possible that the kitchen was just behind. When we first came here we loved everything. This was a super disappointment and we won't be returning. read more

We're visiting Monmouth for the 4th of July and decided to visit this local Italian restaurant, about 10 miles from our hotel. We were seated very fairly, and were given the seat I requested (by the window). Water was brought to our table immediately. Our orders were taken promptly and they were kind enough to split a single order for the both of us to enjoy. Our salad & bread was brought shortly thereafter. Now the only problem we encountered was that the delivery of our order was very slow. However, once it did arrived, and it was the Clam Linguine, it was worth the wait! Very delicious! We even have room for gelato, which we again split! While waiting for our order, I was able to find some negatives about the restaurant. Dead vines gathering up dust, and hanging across the wine bar area. Toilets don't flush. I checked the other stall, and it wasn't flush either. Heck the men's toilet were out of order, too! read more
