Goodness, gracious I wish I could come here every day. I do genuinely believe that this is the best Thai place in the Spokane Valley! I first got to have mangrove during last summer, I went out for breakfast with my sister, and we stopped here on a whim. Was a little apprehensive at first because the restaurant is a home (not used as one though:) ) we shared their breakfast crêpes, I bought the fruity version and she had the savory version and we just split them down the middle. These were the most delicious crêpes I've ever had. The fruit was so fresh, delicious and sweet, I hadn't had fruit like this since I last visited Florida. And their portion sizes are pretty decent too. I was able to try their lunch menu this last Wednesday and I was genuinely in awe of how delicious the whole menu was. The kaosoi soup was out of this world. It was so rich in flavor and the spice was perfect, really coconutty and a beautiful curry base. I had so much that I was able to eat it again for dinner. I ordered a cup of rice to dip into the soup. The Thai fried rice was also delicious. It has a seafood base which tasted amazing with all of the citrus and to finish off our meal we had hot ginseng tea, which I'm surprised I haven't tried sooner because I love herbal teas. It has now been added to my shopping cart because ginseng has such a full body flavor that I can't get enough of it! The way they decorated this was adorable, the owner's personality really comes out in the way they set up the place. There's a lot of seating, but I don't think it would be good for a group bigger than four. The customer service is also great. The husband takes all of the orders and his wife creates all of immaculate dishes. They're a sweet older couple, hence the odd hours as they're slowly moving towards retirement. It's hard to describe how truly wonderful this hidden gem is. Tucked away off of Bowdish Road is a garden with this boutique restaurant in the middle. The owners are sweet and adorable. The chef (wife) is from Thailand and cooks the best Thai cuisine that I've ever enjoyed in the US. Check the website for hours because while Yelp and Google might assure you that they're open, reservations are generally required for the evening. You may show up to find they cannot accommodate you or they're closed. By the way, we had the cashew chicken, chicken pad Thai, and my husband and I split their spring roll. Each was amazing. Well, this is an amazing hidden gem in Spokane. A friend and I wanted Thai Food, so we googled the restaurant and found this restaurant. We did not realize that it was by reservation only, but the owner had some availability. I ordered the Red Curry dish that was AMAZING! They add slices of fresh pumpkin to it. When I say fresh, I mean that the cook (his wife) went into the garden and got a pumpkin! How cool was this!? They are only open for a short window, but all money is donated to help elephants. I waited far too long to try this magical spot. It is in the valley which is far for me but honestly soooo worth it. The couple that own this place are the absolute sweetest. The garden outside, the cafe vibes inside, the decor and ambiance all make you feel like you are at grandma's house. Which is exactly how it should be. Lots of space for seating and a full patio that is beautiful, we sat inside for lunch and ordered Thai teas with coconut milk and they were SO delicious. Try the coconut milk. It is a game changer. Between the 3 of us we ordered the fresh rolls, THREE TIMES. They were that good that we kept sharing and needing more. Same with the spring rolls. You will not be disappointed. The server was an incredibly nice man who happens to be the chef's husband! (That's when you just know a place will be good.) We found this wonderful place just by searching yelp, and I'm sure glad we gave it a try!!! It is a renovated house that is beautifully decorated and quaint with a gorgeous garden out back that has outdoor seating and lights (very garden party). The pad Thai was awesome!! My husband and I ate here a couple weeks ago. It was fantastic, very cool funky house feel, with beautiful artwork displayed. In the summer there is beautiful garden patio seating. I wish I could remember the name of the dish we had sorry it slipped my mind it was like cashew chicken, but better! I'll update on my next visit. WOW That Cashew like chicken I would give a 5 star serious yum factor! We also had thai fried rice it was good but I've had better. The jasmine tea was delightful! Service was timely and our waiter was friendly. I'm surprised more people don't know about this spot. So there are not that many GOOD places to eat in Spokane Valley, but this is one of them! They repurposed a small house for this business. Yesterday was the first time I've eaten here where the flowers in the back were in bloom and it was just a lovely view. The food is so good. It's a bit different than other Thai places around here, but I can tell they make it all since I've had glimpses of the items in their kitchen as they're cooking. They also put more care into their plating. Their dinner menu offers more Thai food options. For lunch, they have baked goods, full service coffee, bubble tea, crepes and quiche. Their chicken pad Thai is my go to although their fried rice is also delicious! Service is always good for me. They're always really warm and welcoming. I'm usually greeted by the cool when I leave. Awesome patio but the food was pretty bad. Solid service. Smallest portion of Pad Thai I've ever received at that price point ($12.50). It was smothered in a sweet sauce that tasted straight from a bottle and surrounded by heaps of raw cabbage. A dozen odd shreds of dry pork. Pretty to look at but not good. The kids got something that looked and tasted like mushy lo mein. Really sweet and really meh. They did get really cool kid's plates with divided sections though. A really nice touch. Wife's soup was probably the worst thing. Heaps of rubbery egg noodles in a lemongrassy broth. Tasted like dry seasoning rather than actual lemongrass. Spring roll was great but at $5 each (each!) it was grossly overpriced. As mentioned, the patio out back is beautiful. They've put a lot of time and attention back there. Tons of flowers. Statues. Fine sitting area. Frankly, I was really expecting great food based on the patio and high prices which is part of the reason I am so disappointed. I definitely would have come back time and again. Portions LARGE. Thai salad with fruits and veggies & beef, fresh and tasty. Phad Thai flavorful, not overly sweet, just heavenly and had a great veggie they said was like a small squash called "chai-yo-Tay"? Unique and wonderful and I'd never guess was squash. Really great. My buddy had a chicken veggie dish he enjoyed, definitely good, but not in his all-time faves. He likes spicy dishes and opted for medium heat and it was just right heat. The rooms are cozy and the surrounding gardens are beautiful. I can only imagine how beautiful it is in the spring. The green curry was absolutely delicious. The vegetables were fresh and cooled perfectly and the sauce was complex and delightful. I only wish we had the option of how spicy it was. It was already fairly spicy, but I like it nuclear-spicy sometimes. The shrimp fried rice was fresh and delightful. The rice had tons of flavor and the shrimp were fresh, big, and cooked just right. Deep fried spring rolls were big and flavorful. I like that they cook them until they're brown, in some places black/kinda burned. It added richness and flavor. A hungry belly and a quick Yelp! search turned up this little gem of a restaurant. The stellar reviews sealed the deal and I headed down the road some five and half miles to see what I'd see. A drizzly night with high road glare made the journey a bit challenging, but, as you'll read, well worth it. As I parked my sporty little MINI Cooper, I began to wonder if I was actually parking in the correct area, but eventually turned off the car and thought in resignation, 'Meh, what the hay. Let's do this.' The outside entrance and surrounding area was inviting even for a dark night and upon entering I was kindly greeted by a gentleman of a mid-fifties appearance. He asked if I had called in an order, to which I replied that I had not. Hot on his heels was the energetic cook, I presumed, a bubbly and pleasant Thai woman with a flare for the food of her people. She immediately talked me into starting with the super silky Thai Iced Tea (Cha-Yen). Not that she had to twist my arm or anything! The tea is so good and is an excellent antidote to a spicy dish. Now, because I'm a bit of a stick-in-the-mud when it comes to food at times, I was aiming for the all too usual suspect of Pad Thai, and thankfully, the do-it-all hostess/server/chef/dishwasher/owner talked me into trying something different. Her recommendation? The amazing Kai Pad Med Ma Moung, which is a spiced to preference Cashew Chicken dish that makes tastebuds shake themselves loose from one's tongue and dance around like unstable molecules that have just been introduced to the ecstasy of soulful food for the first time. So, while I sit here eating, I thought I'd better share my experience with you all in-between bites of awesomeness and drinks of heaven, which is pretty much how the whole experience has made me feel. This family owned Thai place was amazing. Chicken PadThai, beefMussaman curry cashew chicken and chicken satay. Everything was delicious,we just finished it off. My wife always has no bell peppers so I asked for them to be removed and they asked what I would want to sub in for the peppers, so we added broccoli. This is the best Thai food I've tasted in the United States, on top of the amazing food, the owners are delightful, genuine, and put their heart and soul into their business and food. The owners came out to check on us several times to make sure our food and experience was perfect. I had the drunken noodles and my fiancé had the pad Thai. The vegetables tasted like they were fresh from the garden. We inhaled our food, it was delicious! The cherry on top was the beautifully decorated restaurant and picturesque garden surrounding the restaurant. What a dream! This is a gem out in Spokane Valley. Amazingly authentic but with a few twists. The food was superb without being outrageously large portions. We went in on Cinco De Mayo and they even had a Mexican quiche special that was delish! What thoughtful menu choices and per my norm it will always impress me when you have a small menu of only fantastic items rather than a huge menu with some ok things. The space itself is so charming. This old house has been utilized well. Every nook and cranny in it seems to have a purpose. As our host said when we walked in, "Find wherever feels right". The back garden patio is a solid win too for those lovely PNW days. If you're in the area you should really know about this place. In a converted house with a large garden, this Thai place is one of the best ones I have ever had. We had to have the Thai iced Tea and Prawn Spring Rolls to start and both more than lived up to our expectations. We followed up with a cold dish, Yum Woon Sen that was also amazingly fresh and flavorful. To finish we had red chicken curry and rice. All of it was made to order with lots of different vegetables. The cook came out to make sure the Curry was just right. Whew spicy. Yummy. With tip it was around $55. We will go again and tell all of our friends. We had a large party for April birthdays last night at the Mangrove café and bakery. I believe there was probably 28 orders in the kitchen. Although it is a small kitchen -they handled it beautifully. The food was cooked perfect and was very flavorful. The presentation of the food on the plate looked like it came out of a magazine! This is a hidden gem in the Spokane Valley. I'm anxious to try it for the bakery and for lunch. Reservations need to be made for dinner because I don't believe they are open in the evening.
