Great Neck is one of the last stops before you get into the real meat of New York City. It's like a bridge between worlds. It feels more like NYC (far out Queens) than Long Island to me, but what do I know. Besides, Queens is technically on Long Island. Speaking of Long. But anyway. The station is pretty average. It doesn't get as busy as some of the others. Much like my Aunt.

It's also one of the only LIRR stations in NYC with a crossing, so don't be running rate if you're catching a train on the other side of the platform. Purchase your ticket ahead of time. There's no indoor waiting area and there's only one shelter, but the platforms rarely get crowded, so it only really matters if it's super cold outside. There's also a decent-sized parking lot with a cab service (wouldn't recommend the latter unless you're in a hurry or the Q36 isn't running). Speaking of that 36, it used to wait for the Queens-bound trains to arrive during the evening rush. Don't know if it still does. The surrounding area is safe, so there's no need to have anxiety taking a train here at night. There's really nothing around the station except a little deli where you can grab a quick sandwich or drink before you depart.

To get to the Westbound side there are two options the overhead walkway (entrance located mid platform) or across the tracks at the entrance of the parking lot area. If you're running late it is highly likely you will miss your train unless you're already on the platform and can run up the stairs and down quickly. Be sure to leave enough time to buy tickets if you do not have any as the machines are located by the entrance of the parking lot which is on the East bound side.. there is one machine also located across on the west bound side. Parking lot has a fee for the weekdays but weekends it is free.

The train is usually on time and I ride off peak where the prices are cheaper and the LIRR mobile app is a breeze to use to purchase tickets and get an updated train schedule and service information in real time. The train is dated and can use some new equipment and furnishings. So I don't arrive in style, but I do arrive in time to watch the puck drop at MSG.

WHY NOT JUST HAVE A NORMAL CHECK-IN COUNTER/line and stop the madness!?! :( It's no wonder all the JetBlue customer service team are GROUCHY AF and all of them act like they HATE their lives. You get what you pay for. STAY AWAY…read more Two of the worst driver experiences ever. For the trip to the airport, Lawrence E. showed up early and was rushing us the whole time. When we got to the car, instead of saying hi or being professional, he rudely told us we were making him late because he had to go to Smithtown after us. Then, he drove us to the WRONG AIRPORT. For the trip back, I got a text from Damian Smith when we landed, telling us he was running late. I appreciated the heads-up. He said it would be about 35 minutes, which would have been only a short wait for us after getting our bags, but it ended up being over an hour and 40 minutes. We kept checking in with phone calls and texts and he always said he was very close and would be there soon. At one point he said he had stopped to get gas. Then he said he was very close and that we should come outside. So we waited another ten minutes in the cold with our newborn baby after a 2 hour flight and he still wasn't there. I called him and demanded to know where he was, explaining that my newborn was cold and hungry and he hung up on me. Not knowing what else to do, I called the company to complain and cancel the ride. Just as he was pulling up, the company hung up on me. Damian now wants to talk to me "man to man". He said the safety of his passengers is his number one priority and that he had to get his wheel fixed, as if I should have both known that was what was really going on, and that I should have been grateful that was the reason he was late, instead of doing the right thing and letting us and the company know so other arrangements could be made. He denied hanging up on me. And felt he had to explain that he was in the right because the wheel needed to be fixed. He also told us he had to drive to Canada the next day. When he got us home, he said "See? You're home safe." As if he was a hero. Worst experience ever.

Why would I be alone in a car with someone for over an hour if they were associated with a manager that unstable? Why would someone at dispatch answer the phone by screaming loudly in someone's ear? I was so surprised that I instantly hung up without so much as uttering, "wtf....?" Scary. Going to schedule an Uber and a Lyft and hope for the best even though it's a 3 am pickup.
