Good bagels---but the service is painfully slow. If you are trying to slide in on a weekday for a quick take-out, forget it. You will see four people behind the counter, all running around inefficiently and confused. However, these are excellent bagels. They also have tubs of flavored cream cheeses to take out and other items. Best bet is to order up a bag to take home on the weekend. The first time we went I rate it a 5: walked in with only a few people in line. I ordered a blueberry crunch bagel, lightly toasted with extra cream cheese. The bagel was toasted perfectly, it was super fresh with an excellent flavor, the cream cheese on the bagel was also very good. The interior of the building is crammed with Tables close together so we opted to go eat in the car. The bagel I had, had me craving another for a few weeks... fast forward to 3 weeks later. Out second visit I rate it a 3: We walked in with only 4 people ahead of us. The lobby was packed, which I read in other reviews so I wasn't shocked. The people ahead of us ordered the last of the blueberry crunch bagels that were on display, I ordered one anyway and they didn't say they were available. We also got cinnamon twists for the kiddos. The cinnamon twists were pretty good. They cut them in half I'm not sure if that's because we ordered it to go (so they could fit in the brown bag) or if that's standard procedure, but it worked out well because they are on the longer side. After we ordered the building got packed quickly. There was no where to sit and the area to stand around and wait for food is awkward because you kind of have to stand in front of the sofa machines which blocks them or stand in front of the people sitting at tables eating. They finished our order pretty quickly, so again we went to the car to eat. The parking lot was completely full so we left to give someone else a chance at a spot. After leaving I got my bagel out. My bagel was a tiny runt. Definite not the size of the bagel I seen on display, nor the size I had last time. The bagel also had very any of the crunch topping, which makes is so delicious.. comparing it to last time and the ones on display I was highly disappointed. They should have a consistent product. I will go back again to make sure it wasn't an off day and My area of delaware really Lacks good bagels so I was super excited to find a good bagel place. read more

This place has changed owners a few times. The current owners have owned it for a number of years and have done a great job! The food is always fresh and delicious and the staff is always friendly. I have been here quite a few times because: (a) the bagels are delicious (b) the book exchange is an awesome concept (c) there is always at least one table available (d) the television provides the news while I eat (e) I've never had a bad reaction to the food I can honestly say this place was a treat. The ONLY thing that disturbs me about the place is that there are ALWAYS flies in the building. ALWAYS. I've never seen the flies LAND on anything other than furniture so I can't make a factual correlation to any of the food, but that is the only thing that bothers me.....the flies. Recently moved to Middletown, DE. Stopped by this shop for a bagel and was surprised to see nearly 15 people waiting. The staff worked as hard as they could and the people kept coming. Seemed like no one minded waiting for their order. It took a while to get my order but the people at the shop were very welcoming, the bagel was well done exactly I ordered. I am not surprised that the shop was so busy. My thanks to the family who runs this shop for being there. They will be my regular stop for morning bagel with cream cheese. read more

My wife went up to the counter and ordered for herself and my son and I. After the food was delivered, I got up to fix my coffee and the owner comes to me and asked, "Did you pay for that coffee?" I of course replied yes. He then demanded to see my receipt. So without trying to start something my wife and I approached the register and immediately the cashier says, OK, I remember her, but him I don't. Two coffees were ordered but he didn't get it. I only go to Manhattan Bagel on the weekends, when I do have time to sit and wait for an order. I probably can see if you're coming here before work and are in a rush, it may not be a good idea to stop here unless you've called your order in first. However, this place still is way faster than the previous bagel shop that was here and the bagels are so much better. It is clean, delicious and I really enjoy the coffee. The staff is uber friendly. We stopped at this little bagel place for an on-the-go brunch from Dover to PA on a date day. The lines were crazy and the place was jam-packed, but everything actually moved quite quickly. We were in and out of there in ten to fifteen minutes, tops. I really appreciated the friendly staff. My husband asked the cashier about one of the bagel flavors, just wondering what his thoughts were on it or something. And the cashier gave a recommendation about that bagel along with a specific cream cheese spread (I believe it was a jalapeno cream cheese with garlic bagel? I don't remember exactly). Anyways, I was impressed at how friendly and helpful the staff was despite the overwhelming lines. They didn't seem phased by it and still gave us quality service and attention. The reason for only 3 stars on my review, however, is because I felt like the bagels themselves were just mediocre. I was a tad disappointed even. The bagels were really thin; I was expecting a Panera bread type bagel- something thicker. The taste was okay, but for the price I didn't expect a thin bagel. read more

Ive given them many chances but it seems that over and over again I am disappointed with this place. The food is passable but certainly nothing special and a major downgrade from the quality sunrise used to provide. My previous visit I ordered a sandwich and a bagel, handed him a 10 and a free bagel coupon I had.....cashier sets my coupon aside, charges me full price and hand be back a dollar or two and change. Ask the cashier if he didnt see the coupon? His response after looking at it with a stupid look on his face like it was his first day on the job was "you can use it next time" This was a bit odd...not sure if he just didn't know how to ring it up or what but was certainly not something ive eve been told at a restaurant before. I brushed it off and said OK. Flash forward to the next visit. I order the same egg sandwich and a bagel, hand the cashier who just so happens to be the same one from last time the money and the coupon. Now this time he gets some other employee who comes out and tells me they no longer are accepting these free bagel coupons. Keep in mind theres no expiration date on this coupon so there is no valid reason why they would deny it. This would have been fine with me had I not had them tell me to "use it next time" the last time I was in. I would have paid the measly 2 dollars and been on my way. After explaining to the employee what the cashier had told me last time I figured they would make an exception...after all, what does a bagel cost Manhattan bagel to produce? 10 cent? 20cent? Cant be much... Nope, Manhattan disappoints again. The cashier of course denies doing this the previous time and the new employee says no. I took my money and walked out. I guess the .25c bagel is worth losing a customer(s). To be clear, the 2 dollar bagel is certainly not the issue here, the lack of service is the issue. Good eats and good drinks, as good or better selection than nearby Starbucks (and cheaper as well). However 1 1/2 to 2 stars subtracted for tables that wobble significantly, something you don't want when enjoying a hot beverage (or any beverage, generally). I noticed a number of tables with napkins stuffed under the table feet (tables had center pedestal base with four cross legs/feet at bottom). I saw one couple change tables, theirs was so bad.
