I rarely go here because the owner is usually so rude. Only stopped in today because I hadn't had any breakfast and was in the area. The bagel was fine but the owner, once again, was his typical rude self. I have no idea how this location stays in business. Wish there was an Einstein Bagel closer than Paoli because the people there go out of their way to provide outstanding service as well as a great bagel and good coffee. read more

Been there this Sunday 06/16/24. It was 10:15 AM and they were out of all the bagel types except honey everything bagels. So I ordered breakfast sandwiches with that bagel which was nit ideal. The very adamantly told me that this is it.. no more bagels for the day. Then I proceed to get coffee. I could only fill my cup half way through. All the other coffee types were also out except decaf. When I asked if they can make more coffee they very bluntly told me that that's it. That's all the coffee for the day. This seems to me ridiculous: Manhattan Bagel runs out of coffee and bagels at 10:15 AM in a Sunday morning. The place seemed so discombobulated, run by a bunch of kids who appeared to be in high school. The phone was ringing constantly without anyone bothering to answer. And to cap it all, I pay for cream cheese which they forgot to add it in my paper bag. So disappointing. Not worth going there. I'll get my bagels and coffee from the ACME next door. read more

Quite frankly I can only imagine that this is a franchise location that is an embarrassment to the entire company. They're not friendly and they do not care about the quality of the food that they are putting out. Wrapping a croissant in tin foil and then pressing it down does very bad things for your sandwich. Serving hash browns that are a lethargic White and glistening with oil could only mean that the oil was not up to temperature before they were put in. I've attached before and after pictures of the hash browns, the after pictures are after 15 minutes of my home air fryer to actually cook them. I've been going to Manhattan Bagel more often lately due to my favorite bagel place closing down. In all, I like Manhattan Bagel's offerings. I've had better bagels, but these are still decent. I have always enjoyed the fresh breakfast sandwiches straight from the grill. I have recently also become a fan of their Autumn Roast coffee. Food-wise, there's not much complaint. This particular branch, I witnessed a couple of operational things that turned me off. When I visited last Friday, they seemed to be out of some bagels at 9:30. Perhaps they had a run on some that day, but I was also informed by the staff when I asked about egg bagels (which they've had before) that they hadn't had any egg bagels for a week and a half. Now I have to call them out. What reputable bagel place doesn't have egg bagels for a week and a half? Secondly, the day I visited, I witnessed the manager on duty yelling at a member of his staff out in the open behind the counter. Now, I didn't see what happened if anything. I don't know if the staff member did anything to warrant a talking to, or if the staff member is a problem in general. My very brief observation of the situation didn't spot any egregious behavior. In fact, it appeared to me that the staff member didn't seem to understand what the problem was. And I get that sometimes you have to crack the whip as a manager. But, I'm of a simple belief... air it out in the back room if there's a problem. This wasn't a simple prodding to work faster because it was busy, this was creating a scene. I don't need to leave your place of business feeling awkward. You're not Georges Perrier running a high-end restaurant who can get away with berating a staff member in the dining room because that's part of his charm and reputation. You're a chain bagel place that can't even figure out which bagels to stock. But you still make good sandwiches, so I'll go easy. 3 stars is right. read more

I don't make a point to review chains but despite the fact this is a chain, inclusive of the word "Manhattan" in its name they have... pork roll and use real egg on their sandwiches (if I recall correctly). So, if you're hungry for a pork roll, egg and cheese on a bagel (naturally), you can come here and get one at any hour. read more

Extremely disrespectful manager, lied to me and yelled at me to leave and never come back just because I asked a question - all while I was with a toddler & being very calm and respectful to him. Their register has higher $ than the menu board- and the manager would rather call me names than fix the issue. You're much better off going to the Panera next door. Here is what happened: I went this morning with my toddler - got 3 different bagels and coffee. I was charged a number higher than what I expected - when the worker rung me up and was about to throw out my receipt - I said I wanted to see it. I saw I was overcharged for one sandwich and calmly asked why the number on my receipt is different from what's on the board. The lady pulls her manager to look at the register. Manager rudely asks what I want, says he is very busy etc. I asked him the question - he then says it's due to tax. I point out that the numbers for my other 2 sandwiches match what's on the menu. They then say they charge tax for some sandwiches and not for others...then the manager tells me he is too busy and I need to leave. I then give them back the food and said ok - I would like my money back. I was just asking a simple question. At this point the gentleman behind me steps in - looks at my receipt and the board, does the math on his phone and then tells them they've overcharged me $3, tells them 'this lady has been nothing but nice to you, you're wrong, she's right and that this whole thing should be on the house.' The manager starts yelling at him too. But only then does the manager come back to the register and give me cash back (I paid on credit card). He then tells me to leave and never come back to his store. I ask him for the copy of my receipt back - he tells me he threw it out. Customer behind me told other customers what just happened- they over charged me and don't want to admit it. Other customers tell me to call the BBB. They are super rude! I called to order for pickup and the guy was impatient and unfriendly. Whenever I come in, they all have scowls in their faces, it's so uninviting. I could definitely tell who the owner was and I could tell by his voice that he is the one who picked up the phone. First time to the Newtown Square location. Have been a regular at the Chester Springs location. Over the years, I've been disappointed with the service at the Chester Springs location, which tends to be very unreliable, regularly serving incorrect orders, but a place I found to be a particular value for someone who might be eating low carb. I could go there and order eggs and bacon on a plate, without the bread. I got an egg plate with 2 eggs and 4 strips of bacon, or 3 eggs if I wanted. Today's visit to the Newtown Square location, was disappointing again. It didn't bode well when the staff person ask me if I wanted who when asking me if I wanted a bagel, and I said no, asked me how I wanted it toasted... I was given my egg plate, incredibly, on a tiny 4 inch paper plate, with foil on top. No to-go container, which they said they didn't have. Imagine me driving and eating this this way. Second, noticing the pictures, the two measly strips of bacon. I asked if this was standard, and I was told yes, that all 2 egg plates come with two strips of bacon, whereas at the Chester Springs location they come with 4. I don't know what is true or not, but whatever is the case, the franchise does not seem to be able to maintain a quality standard between locations, and this location should not be sending customers out with food on 4 inch paper plates. Having just moved to the area of Newtown Square, I won't be visiting Chester Springs again, and it is unlikely that I will be visiting this Newtown Square location again either, unless I hear that things have changed or hear back as a result of this post. read more

I don't usually write reviews. But this really is a consistent happening at this store. They are always out of bagels. And it isn't when they are about to close. They are out of bagels with 3 or 4 hours left until closing. Why can't they make more bagels? This always happens when my children come home and we 'd like to get a dozen or so. It is extremely frustrating. I even get up early to call and order and the phone is always busy. Today I have called 25 times which makes me think the phone is off the hook. The only reason I'm giving 2 stars is because I've had good experiences here. When Joann works, the place hums. Coffee is made, coffee pots are filled with coffee, workflow is smooth. The problem is, she works only 1 or 2 mornings during the week. When she's not there, things are off. Orders are wrong, coffee pots empty, employees are surly. If it wasn't for the good experiences I've had here, my review would be echoing the negative reviews. read more

Not a place I would return to even though it seems to be fiscally solvent based on the steady stream of people combining and going on a Saturday morning and five very busy workers behind the counter. This is probably one of the worst tasting bagels I have eaten with the exception of the frozen kind you get at the supermarket. Coffee is self-serve out of thermal, pump-action decanters and were almost empty and not very fresh. Cream thermoses were close to empty as well. Very disappointed. I just left there I like going here because the atmosphere is typically nice and its location is close to my job. However from time to time things happen and my order gets messed up sometimes. However today was the last straw. I order an egg and cheese bagel with salt pepper and butter. I received and egg and cheese bagel with salt pepper and ketchup. Now since this isn't the first time this has happen so I check my bag before leaving the parking lot . I go back in bring it to the owners attention and he looks at me funny like what really ? I am immediately alarmed, and I no longer wanted them to make my sandwich which I was supposed to consume. When I get back to my car again Its wrong AGAIN I go back in an after that look of death I received from the owner before I just asked for a refund I no longer wanted them to make my sandwich who know what would have happen then. I've been going to this Manhattan for many many years however over the past couple of months I have experienced the coworkers, but mainly the one male owner, being very rude and a lot of times messing up my orders or finding lots of hair in my orders. I've still continued to go there though because of its convenience and how good the bagels usually are but after how I was treated today I will never be going back. Last week my boyfriends card got declined on two separate occasions and they insisted that it was his card, not the machine, when he very well had a good amount of money available each time. Today my card also got declined and I said this happened to my boyfriend could you please try again so they proceeded to try it a couple times while giving me attitude and it kept getting declined even though I was just at the bank and I know I have money on it. I even went as far as to show them my bank account on my phone. At one point one of the younger girls who has seen me in there frequently tried it on the other machine and said "this happened to a woman the other day and she said she had over $6000 in her account it's definitely our machines I don't know why it's not working." She said I'm sorry it's up to my boss for whatever she wants to do. At this point an older woman who was not the boss says "we're not doing anything too bad it's her card not us" I then said how are you going to try to still say it is my card when it happened to multiple other people. She said "too bad there's a Mac machine down the street you can go get cash." I continued to then try to talk to the owner where I wasn't even looked at in the eye and just being blatantly ignored. After a minute of trying to talk to her the same woman who was previously telling me "too bad" came over and grabbed the bagel from me and threw it in the trash saying "I've had enough with this s#*t you need to leave, get out now" At that point I said this is absolutely ridiculous & I threw my coffee away and walked out. Since then I've been trying to find a corporate number to contact but have not been able to do so. This customer service and the way I was talked to was the worst I have ever experienced from ANYWHERE in my whole entire life. From years of experience working in customer service and having to deal with many angry customers, NEVER have I spoke to a customer like that. At that point, it should've been an apology that it wasn't working and something along the lines of "this ones on us but if it happens again we won't be able to do anything" Especially when they had about 4 bagels left and they seemed to be getting ready to close. I have had many friends who have also experienced the coworkers and owners being very rude, one of them even saying to my friend "have a nice day lady, don't ever come back".
