I'm from Philly, and Van Horn's takes the cake for the best cheesesteaks in the area, in my opinion. I currently live in Delco, and as a result, I've frequented the same places for the last twenty-five years. Then I stumbled onto Van Horn's one day, and my cheesesteak experience hasn't been the same since. I stuck with the same steak for a while -- I highly recommend the blackened chicken cheesesteak. But recently I ventured out to try something new, and once again, Van Horn's didn't disappoint. The fact that you can get your chicken cheesesteak chopped or chunked is another nice touch. It's rare that I pay for something I'm used to paying a little less for and feel like I actually got my money's worth -- but that's exactly the case here. I've talked to family and friends, and we'll gladly rank Van Horn's as the best place in Delco, hands down, against any other contenders. For lunch we decided to order out from van Horn's steak. 1st I had the Satchmo, ribeye, mushrooms, fried onions, seeet peeper with cooper sharp on a seeded roll. 2nd Classic, ribeye with cooper sharp and long hots 3rd classic pork. Braised Italian pork roasted peepers and sharp prov. With a large Fry All were hot and delicious. Cheese was nice and melted in the steak and pork and the seeded roll was very fresh. 2.5 stars. - not rounding up. Poor service, little too pricey for what I received. Very unorganized kitchen and staff. Overall missed the mark. I ordered the Satchmo, a buffalo chicken, Italian hoagie, ham hoagie, 4 chicken tenders and fries which came to a grand total of $85. Phew. This was my first time here, but I've heard the food and cheese steaks were great so I was ok with things at this point. I placed my order for pickup and was told it would be 20 minutes. I came in around the 20ish minute mark and waited for 25 more minutes. There was only 1 other person waiting with me. I did see 3-4 other people come in pickup and leave while I waited, but it wasn't busy by standards. While waiting is when I when I observed how unorganized and dis shoveled the staff were. The lady upfront was kind, attentive, and seemed to be running the show putting orders together. But, when she asked for help she didn't get any. She asked another staff member to help bag a specific sandwich for an order, several times, and it went in the guys ear and right out the other. I could also hear them scrambling in the back working on my order, and complaining about how many Italian hoagie orders came in right at the same time. Maybe they were behind, maybe they accidentally let mine go with a different order? This is all speculation but they were definitely overwhelmed and it shouldn't have taken that long for my order. The cheese steaks were good, and the Italian hoagie was very hearty! They do not skimp on meat, but the hoagie bread was so hard most of it was thrown away. I don't care for shredded gums. Overall, not a good first time experience. Minus a star for the price, minus a star for the delayed pickup time, and minus 1/2 for the rock hard Italian hoagie bread. This place knows how to sandwich. That's the only way I can put it. The chicken parm sandwich was easily one of the best I've had. I usually like a thin cutlet but this one was a little bigger. Let me tell you though it was cooked PERFECTLY. Juicy, tender and a great portion. Roast beef sandwich with the honey horseradish (incredible combo) was lights out. Vodka meatball was very good. The meatballs were outstanding and honestly remind me of my mom's which for any Italian, that's a huge deal, but I wasn't a big fan of how spicy the vodka sauce was. Personal preference though. This is primarily a cheesteak place but they do have other options-- that sounded very delicious. The place is small, but there is some seating. Fast service and good portions. Had lunch for 2 at Van Horns. The staff was very helpful and friendly - and the owner stopped by to ask how the meal was. I tried the Philly Philly because it sounded interesting with the addition of kielbasa - it was delicious and I could eat half - so the other half was a delicious day after lunch. The seeded rolls were spot on and the meat and cheese mix was one of the best I've ever had. My friend got the classic cheesesteak and the same occurred - it turned into 2 delicious meals. Had the truffle steak with bacon. Quality meat- juicy, tender, flavorful, same w the bacon, seeded roll texture and sauces add to the sandwich. Maybe one of my faves steaks in addition to the Classic Dalessandro's. Has white and black truffle (oil? Probably) as white truffle is expensive and in Italy only apparently. A friend told me white truffle is banned in many food competitions because it is that good. Staff is friendly and restaurant looks like it was someone's home converted partially into a pizza shop. What a breath of fresh air. Cousin was in town and wanted a cheese steak to eat during the Eagles' game. My wife found this spot. Funny enough, tried this location last year, different owners, and was left uninspired with their steaks. Van Horns was great. Wife surprised us with dinner steaks, and there's a bunch that made us go back for seconds. I went with the classic cheesesteak, added fried onions and chose Cooper American for my cheese option, very good and very filling. At first I thought damn this is small for the price, probably 10", but it was full of quality meat, tasty and filling, so well worth the price. Chose shoestring fries as a side, asked for well done, also very good, perfectly crispy, salt & pepper added just enough flavor, had a side of their housemade cheese to try it out, also very good. I won't tell you what ingredients are in the housemade cheese is, ask and they will tell, trust me it's good. Staff was very friendly, food was ready exactly when we put on the online order, 5:45pm on a Friday night, expected it to be a busy shit show, but it wasnt, I was in and out. Highly recommended if you are in the area. Give them a shot! Recommendation, eat it quick, as it probably won't travel very well, the juicy good steak takes some over the rolls dough if left in the wrapper too long. Once you open it up, you won't take long to eat it, it's that good, honestly the best flavor steak I have had in awhile. So much for tradition, because the best cheesesteak I've ever had came from a place that opened up a week ago. Pillowy soft ribbons of shaved ribeye, a homemade cheese sauce that will make it difficult for me to ever try "wiz" again, and Corropolese rolls stacked by the register. Not the largest steak I've ever had, but I really shouldn't be eating them to begin with, so not a big deal. And yes, they are a bit pricey, but this is the time we live in. Food is expensive and workers deserve better pay. It makes for more expensive cheesesteak. Can't wait to try the pork next time. You must try Van Horns!! The past few times I've come here, Mark the owner has been so accommodating! I have an obsession with truffle fries and though it's not on the menu he makes them for me everytime! (I've tried every truffle fry on state st, and none compares imo) The inside is very tidy and homey, with customers always stopping in anytime I'm there. I got the kids chicken fingers and truffle fries, and both were cooked to perfection. A lot of seasoning and the tenders tasted like the cutlets my grandma used to home make! Swear. Pretty good, but not great cheesesteaks. The meat quality was fine, but the Hallmark of a good cheesesteak is knowing the proper ratio of meat to cheese, etc. , and this thing was way too heavy on the cheese. It overpowered everything else. I saw boxes of corropolese seeded rolls, but by the time the cheesesteak made it to me, the normally dense and chewy roll that I'm used to Was soft and pillowy, kinda like a hotdog bun. Weird. Almost like it had sat in its wrapping too long and steamed itself, which is weird because we ate there. My guess is that they made the cheesesteaks, wrapped them, and let them sit on the counter getting steamy until my daughter's chicken Parm was ready. Only reason I'm giving three stars instead of four is the value. I know we are in a world of $15 cheesesteaks, but usually when I pay that much for a cheesesteak, it's almost too big and heavy to finish. Not here. The $16 cheesesteak was not particularly weighty or large, just typical size. So definitely overpriced. read more

The cheesesteak was overpriced and I could hardly tell if there was cheese on it. The king cutlet was very bland and the cutlet itself was ice cold. I did enjoy the house made cheese sauce with their fries. However, the fries were cold.
