My fav beach for miles around, up and down the coast! Great view under and on the pier. I was here 2 days ago and there were nice waves. There's a small aquarium at the end that your kids would like. Whenever I'm here, which is usually on a Thursday, I go to The Kettle. They have this broccoli cheddar soup that they only serve on Thursdays. There's also the Manhattan Beach Creamery. They've got chocolate dipped ice cream cookie sandwiches, frozen bananas, cotton candy, caramel apples, and lots more! There are also a couple of restaurants I would love to check out. read more

Such a lovely walk out over the water! After visiting Santa Monica Pier, I have a hard time determining what makes a pier awesome... so much goes on there. But this is about Manhatta Beach Pier...and how there's an insane amount of comfort and beauty in the views there. This pier walk is beautiful, as is. On one end, you've got views of where the ocean meets the sky, surfers looking to catch their next wave and even a cool little aquarium to tour! On the other end there are views of all the houses with direct access to the beach...even the bouses beyond the front line structures...appearing to be situated theater style to observe the happenings of the beach. The aquarium at the end of the pier is small but informative. With a small donation (optional, but come on...support a free educational establishment) you can pet some starfish, view some eels and see some marine animal sculls. Super cool! I look forward to my next visit to the Manhattan Beach Pier! read more

I have to admit im biased to the old rickety wood pier down in Seal Beach which seems to be much longer than this one. Over there, a diner, over here, an aquarium sits at the end. It's however wide, concrete and stable. Not too much action as this time of year the swells are low and you've got a weird mix of tourists and locals jaunting about. However, it's still nice to be over the ocean and watching/listening to the waves. read more

Manhattan Beach Pier is one of my favorite places to go to. Usually I'm there with my best friend after we teach our classes in the evening after 10pm. Sometimes we'll grab food at The Kettle and take it to the pier to enjoy. Whether it's sitting on the pier or having a moonlight picnic next to the water, it is a great place to unwind. The Aquarium is a nice little spot to enjoy marine life and learn about The Pacific. read more

Beautiful beach with a well maintained Pier. Not as crowded or touristy as the Santa Monica one. The neighborhood is very scenic and is perfect for a long walk on the beach or on the walkway. We went at sunset and it was beautiful! read more

I stayed in Manahttan Beach my last trip out to LA (recently...as in, earlier this month). I'm kicking myself for not going to this area to see a California sunset, so that's on my list for next trip. My friend and I went to downtown Manhattan Beach for brunch our last day in the area before heading to Vegas. I wish we could have spent more time here, it's truly beautiful. As for parking, if you want to park CLOSE to the pier... it's based on luck. There is parking, I'm sure it gets full early, and throughout the day. We parked in a meter lot about two blocks away, it was no biggie. The pier itself has fishing and an aquarium which the fee is based by donation. We didn't go in there to check it out, but it looked like a cute place to bring kids. The beach below the pier is clean, and again... just a beautiful area overall. If you are in the area, visiting this place is a MUST!!! read more

I've always like Manhattan Beach over the other south bay beaches. The pier is nice and it has a little aquarium museum at the end. A lot of shops and restaurants are just down Manhattan Beach Blvd. You'll have professional volleyball tournaments, events, surf, the beach to enjoy all year. The only negative which is the same for all the other south bay beaches is the parking. Parking is very limited and it can get crazy crowded on hot summer days. Other then the parking, Manhattan Beach is good to people watch, eat, swim, sunbath, and a lot of other outdoor activities. read more

There are plenty of things to do within walking distance: Food, pubs, desserts, etc. Great place to take a stroll either by yourself or with a date. In this case, I came here with a date at night. Although it's not as nice as compared to Santa Monica Pier, it is still quiet and peaceful. Great place to just talk and spend time with someone you like, or even with friends and family. If you appreciate photography, you can capture some nice views here, depending on your photography skills. Recommended! read more

I'm from San Diego so I'm familiar with good beaches and this one is great. I was surprised at how hilly it was so have comfortable shoes if you're going to walk around. Food choices are excellent and we loved the sushi restaurant Katsu-ya. You can't go wrong. Melts in your mouth. The gelato place was awesome too and they weren't shy on the serving either. This beach is famous for their volleyball tournaments and it's definitely family friendly. Lots of space and easy waves for beginners to surf. The pier and aquarium are nice features. I was surprised by the list of toxic fish "not to eat" at the end of the pier. What's going on in the water? Besides that it looks like a perfect place to spend a day at the beach. read more

First off, know that this beach is very populated, but not overwhelming crowded, it's very spacious after all. My girlfriend and I came during late evening to take pictures under the pier and the lighting just worked perfectly that day :) No one seemed to be taking pictures when we got there to our surprise, until we started to and then shit got real. Good thing I took a million before the crowd came hahah. It really is beautiful though, especially when the sun is setting. This particular day however, was a day after there was a fire in a nearby city and the skies were insanely weird. The sun was an odd red/orange and the skies were dark. The waters feel great especially during the summer; a bit cold at first but you adjust really quickly. If you get the chance, also walk the pier and go into the aquarium if you can! It's small but cool to check out, not to mention free! Donations accepted though. PARKING: parking is almost a nightmare since this area is so populated. Stay away from the area where all the restaurants and stores are. I drove up one block where there were residential housing and I was able to find parking easy peasy. No limit, just read for street cleaning (most likely morning times). read more

Such a picturesque beach!! With it's beautiful pier and historic roundhouse aquarium, this beach is perfect for the family, a sweet date, or to hang out solo. Lots of Public Parking available (at a price, of course), and there's also Downtown Manhattan Beach right up the hill with lots of boutique and small chain businesses. read more

This is a beautiful pier with excellent views of the surfers, and of the entire coastline. There's an aquarium at the end of the pier, and there's also a place where you can purchase refreshments. Parking during the holidays is free at the parking meters, which is a great perk! read more

Great beach + pier! - Pier to walk on and see the surfers close up - Surfers (always nice to just people-watch, yeah?) - Adequate parking - Lots of eateries and coffee shops all within walking distance - Cute homes to walk by - nice walking paths along the beach The best part of my morning traveling here, was the peaceful feeling. It's not overcrowded, nor dirty. I'm used to Santa Monica, but I decided to come here since I'd never been. It's not as "pretty" because I really like an overflow of palm trees in my photos =) BUT, it's clean, relaxing, and easy to walk around... and it's just nice to not be around a bunch of tourists too.. (this coming from a tourist herself) I'd come again if I was in the area again! read more

Love Manhattan beach!! Our grandma lives literally 5-10 mins walking distance from the beach and it's always great to come here when we come to grandma's. The beach is beautiful!! It's never crowded when we go, so that's a plus! This is the first time I've been to the pier and I love how to has a bar at the end. They serve drinks, smoothies and ice cream. Alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. There's also a little aquarium at the end and they take donations to help maintain the place. Great if you have kids. There's also another pier on the other side which is Hermosa Beach pier. Tons of restaurants and hang outs. read more

I really really enjoy coming to this beach. I'm just glad that it's a 15 min drive from my house and that's so convenient! Every time I come to MB, it feels like home :) I usually come here to hangout with friends or tan haha I usually park at the underground parking structure on Morningside Drive. Parking is pretty cheap and the meters accept card as well. If you want free parking you may have to park a little further near the park or police station if you are considering that option. What I like about this beach is that it's super clean and very relaxing. Redondo is super janky but Hermosa and MB are the nice ones haha. I just prefer MB bc the parking situation is a little easier than Hermosa. It definitely gets busy during the weekends or summer so expect huge crowds! Also since it's MB, a lot of these people are pretty wealthy LOL. Definitely make a visit to MB when you have the chance! It's IG worthy in my opinion :) read more

A classic pier southern California pier. Parking can a little more difficult compared to other Southern California Pier's but it is well worth it. It is not as busy or as over run as other piers but there are still great places nearby for some beer or food. There is a small aquarium and coffee shop at the end of the pier. On clear days, you can probably see some of the other local piers. Of them all, this is probably my favorite one. read more

Pros-We hung out here for a few hours before a flight. The pier is super cute and the free aquarium was a nice added bonus. The beach area was not super crowded, but there was still lifeguards, which was nice. We hauled our suitcases down to the sand which was not so fun but it was nice to change in the restrooms and rinse the sand off. My daughter found a sand dollar and loved watching the sandpipers. Cons- There was a lot of seaweed washed up on the shore and small bits of trash. Some parts of the water looked a little foamy/ brownish- but maybe it was from the seaweed? It didn't look like oil but wielded me out a little. Also, it smelled like shrimp- not rotten- but for sure fishy. I would for sure come back. We had a lot of fun. read more

Great, family friendly beach. Came here this weekend with the kids and we all had a blast. It doesn't get as crowded as some of the other local beaches. We literally had about 25 feet all around us of unoccupied space, which is pretty rare for a summer weekend in SoCal. The beach was clean and parking was easy, at a nearby lot. All in all, everything we were looking for a relaxing day at the beach with the kids. My only complaint: the bathrooms were pretty atrocious. My boyfriend said the mens room was clean, but the ladies room had vomit in one of the sinks and all the stalls were a mess and out of toilet paper. They may need to step up the cleaning crew on the weekends... read more

One of the best places in SoCal to see the surfers and watch the sunset! Plus there is ample parking at the foot of the pier if you time your arrival right. Manhattan Beach has always been a favorite for its wide esplanade ad sandy beach. The nice bike lanes and car parking spaces really help expand the universe of folks who can come here and enjoy the natural beauty of this tony beachfront community. read more

Lucky for me, it was a beautiful day when I visited Manhattan Beach. The beaches in So Cal are way nicer than the ones in SF! They are really clean (beach and the water) and there are actually tons of people out and about. I loved how we were just able to walk down the long pier to enjoy the waves and watch the surfers. It totally reminded me of Baywatch when I was there for some reason. Too bad we weren't dressed properly to do that but I was glad to just get some sun. I didnt get the chance to stay here longer. I just wanted to see how its like... But i really like how the beach has nice sand and it wasnt too dirty compare to santa monica.....the water wasnt too clear but it wasnt too cold so it was okay...overall i had a lot of fun staying here for a little bit...=) i will definetly come back to check it out again in the future read more

This is by far one of now favorite benches. It's 10x more cleaner and not as crowded as the other beaches we've gone to for example: Venice, Huntington, Laguna etc The park we love most is that parking fee is not ridiculous like the others, you fed the meter and pay as you stay. For a total of 4 hours we only paid about more or less then $6. Can't wait to come back soon! read more

This is my favorite Los Angeles beach / pier! Best sand LA has to offer, with a nice golden hue that feels like clouds when dry. When wet, it really firms up so that you aren't slipping and sliding into the water. Beach is kept very clean and not as crowded as some of the other LA ones. Definitely better than Santa Monica if you just want a nice day out. The pier offers some pretty good views up and down the coast. At the end is a small shop, watch out 'cause birds sit above and will throw stuff down from the roof into your food. They also have an aquarium back there that's pretty cool for kids. Only thing bad about this beach is finding parking, which is usually 2hrs paid maximum and super rare. Even the parking garages fill up and it's worse on weekends. And don't stay over the 2hrs, they chalk the cars. read more

I love this beach so much! It is so clean, volleyball nets, with friendly gorgeous people! I brought a canopy, 5 of my best friends, a blanket, food, and beverages and the mindset to swim. I went into the water and was coaxed by a friend to swim behind the waves to the calmer waters.Unfortunately, I got caught in a rip currant and realized that no matter how hard I swam back to the shore, I was being pulled out to sea. My friend who was swimming with me was trying to drag me back in but couldn't. I looked toward the shore and saw two lifeguards watching us. The lifeguards waved to us to come back but it was to late. They ran into the water and swam to us and pulled us out! I was relieved! Thank you Manhattan Beach Lifeguards for saving my life!!!!!!! read more

Kids running... :) Old guys fishing... :) Seagulls pooping... D: Those 3 things will account for 99% of what you'll see at the MB Pier, which happens to be one of the most gorgeous locales in southern California. While the MB Pier may not be the biggest pier around (and trust me, I'm not a size queen), what it lacks in size, it makes up for in breathtaking beauty. Just look around at the white sand stretching for miles in every direction, fields of volleyballers, gorgeous homes perched on the hills of MB, the Santa Monica Mountains in the distance... If you don't find any of this impressive, then you probably have a lump of coal where your heart should be. There's also a little aquarium at the end of the of the MB Pier... It's pretty small and unimpressive. You're better off spending your time gawking the surfers and praying that they don't have any violent collisions with the pylons. That would be even messier than the seagull poop... D: read more

My favorite beach in Southern California. The boardwalk is excellent to gaze at the ocean on one side and admire the homes on the other. Flat easy walk. I am not sure but I don't think wheels except for strollers are allowed so you won't be run over. read more

It's a beautiful sight from the top of the hill, during the day or lit up at night. The highlight of Manhattan Beach Pier is the historic 1920's roundhouse at the end of the pier, which contains a small aquarium & a restaurant. The pier offers great views of beaches and distant hills, as well as surfers. Photos say it better than words. read more

For our mains, we shared the Love Letter Discoteca pasta, Whole Branzino, Angus Ribeye, and both the Japanese Mushrooms and Spicy Soppressata pizzas. Everything was flavorful, well prepared, and perfect for sharing. Unfortunately, the rest of the experience fell a little flat. The dining room was very loud, and we were seated right by the front door, so there was a constant flow of people walking by. I understand every restaurant has a few less-than-ideal tables. I worked in restaurants myself but it definitely affected the experience. If you're dining with a smaller group, I'd recommend sitting at the bar instead. From what I remember from previous visits, the bartenders are fantastic, and I actually prefer the atmosphere there. I had also noted on my reservation that we were celebrating my birthday. I wasn't expecting a complimentary dessert or anything, but I was surprised that neither the host nor our server acknowledged it with even a simple "Happy Birthday." It's a small detail, but thoughtful hospitality goes a long way in making a celebration feel special.

I've been blessed to hear Pennywise, Weezer and Reel Big Fish perform here in the past. I was delighted to make a reappearance this year for Everclear. Art Alexakis of Everclear always had a special place in my heart. Several of his music lyrics during the times he performed with Craig Montoya and Greg Eklund had deeply touched my soul. Any event with the word "free" entails large crowds, which equates to hard-to-find parking. It's always a chore to look for parking in Hermosa Beach, in general. We parked our car in Redondo Beach near the Catalina. Just fyi, metered parking units there didn't take cards or bills so bring some change. Redondo Beach and Manhattan Beach also offers free Summer Concert Series. Check them out at Southbayevents.com

Behind the counter stood a short, fat girl with black hair stuffed into a tight green shirt that looked like it was one deep breath away from a catastrophic explosion due to the stress of holding so much fat in one shirt. Next to her was another lazy, arrogant coworker who also couldn't be bothered to serve anyone. Fat Green Shirt immediately announced she felt "overworked," wasn't getting paid enough to deal with customers right now, and told us to come back later. We politely asked if we could at least get drinks while we waited. She snapped "NO!" and basically declared she wasn't serving us because she was too busy "catching up" after running out of pizza slices. She ordered us to go somewhere else. When we asked for the manager's name and contact info she flat-out refused. Meanwhile our non-minority friends walked up, ordered without a single problem, then promptly threw up and are now at urgent care. Either the food was prepared like a science experiment gone wrong or it was already past its expiration date and fighting for its life. Save yourself the misery and take your money somewhere it's actually appreciated. My dad attended 6 hours of pen lectures on Saturday, including old-school penmanship lessons, an entire lecture about ink, a talk from a pen repair guy, and much more. Then on Sunday, we both attended the exhibition, which took place in 3 rooms. There were tons of pen dealers from around the world selling new and antique pens that ranged from $5 to $3400+. My dad purchased a couple vintage Parker pens and I got a Lamy Safari fountain pen. Admission to BOTH days of the Pen Show is only $6. It was a great time--totally weird but guaranteed fun for all you nerds out there.

CAVEAT EMPOR. The public portion of the event is Sunday only. The other days are devoted to…read more"traders", and the entry fee is $65. I saw mostly vintage pens, no one to do nib work, and few new pens. The brochure is misleading.
