Dr. Leonardi and the PA Elise were always perfectly nice to me, and I never had to wait for a long time in the waiting room. So, those are the pluses, and why I'm giving them three stars instead of one or two. However, I decided to look into switching doctors after a weird experience w/ this office's front desk people last month. On a Friday, they called to confirm a Monday appointment. I arrived for the appointment on Monday to find the office closed. What's more, right outside the elevator door, was a huge puddle of wet cement with no warning sign or anything, and I slipped and fell. I was fine -- and really I would say this was their building's fault, not the office's -- but I'm pregnant, so it fell extra scary to fall, and I'm lucky it wasn't worse. I called their offices to complain about the whole thing and they blamed me. They denied they'd called to confirm the appointment and said they'd notified me by phone a month earlier that the appointment had been moved to a different day. I don't recall ever getting that call a month earlier, and not sure how I could've mentally fabricated them calling to confirm the Monday appointment the Friday before. Anyway, the whole thing prompted me to research other doctors. This place had been recommended by my GP when he diagnosed me, via blood work, with a possible autoimmune disease. Dr. Leonardi put me on a synthetic thyroid medication and I went in for blood work and a quick check up periodically for two years. The medication was occasionally increased. As I never had any symptoms of any kind of issue, and didn't feel better or wors on the medication, I didn't think about it much: I went to the appointments, took the pill, and was glad when they told me that my numbers seem to look good and I should continue to take the meds, etc. However, in researching other doctors, and eventually finding one I like, I realize how much more there is to autoimmune diseases than I ever realized. I don't feel that Dr. Leonardi ever really helped me be a more knowledgeable patient. For instance: There was never any discussion about the role of gluten in my diet and how it can impact the degeneration of my thyroid, and never any discussion about non-synthetic thyroid hormone replacement therapies. She never talked to me about how one autoimmune can lead to another if not treated the right way. I think the fact that I am one of the lucky few that has no symptoms of autoimmune disease made me sort of complacent and lazy about taking my health seriously, and I think made it easy to be fine with a doctor whose approach seems, basically, to be "just take a pill." So, in a weird way, I'm glad that their office screwed up, and that I nearly killed myself slipping on cement, as it forced me to research doctors who have a more holistic perspective and are more willing to talk through various options and protocol. read more

Before going to this doctor's office, I was reading reviews on Yelp and on other web-sites. I did not know what to expect, because some reviews were really bad - just 1 star. However, I was very impressed by the doctor. Although, Dr. Leonardi appeared as "cold, rude or dismissive" to some people who wrote bad reviews here, I found out that the contrary is true - Dr. Leonardi is warm, welcoming, intelligent lady, who listens carefully. This doctor genuinely cared about my health concerns. I noticed that she was very knowledgeable. During my appointment Dr. Leonardi was thorough: I brought with me related medical records from other doctors and she went through all of them and discussed in details all of my concerns as well as ordered necessary tests. Moreover, she was interested to dig into my health issues to see a whole picture of my health and submitted request for medical records from my previous treating doctors. I like her enthusiasm and desire to really get to know all facts before coming to a conclusion. Receptionists were friendly and professional. Waiting area was nice, with huge TV on the wall. read more

I had a horrible experience with this doctor. I went to 4-5 appointments in the span of about 6 months and each appointment I was seen at least 20 minutes late. She is late every time. The last appointment the doctor was 50 minutes late (and I had the second appointment of the day). She is definitely not a warm person. I'm sure it's a cultural difference but that matters to me. I had zero connection with her and feel that I had just been going in to get shots. I never once received consultation on what to do to make my hypothyroidism better or reassurance that everything will be ok. I called her in January to tell her I was pregnant and when I went in to see her she didn't read her file before I came in and forgot that I had told her that. She went about the appointment as if nothing was different until I had to stop her to remind her I was pregnant. All of these instances I let go and gave her the benefit of the doubt until I went in after my miscarriage at 16 weeks. She forgot that I had called to tell her that I had the miscarriage (just a couple days before). She started the appointment asking how I was doing on the 85 mcg dosage of my medicine. I never went up to 85 mcg because I had miscarriage and was kept on 50 mcg - all things she herself prescribed and should've known before I walked in the room. Considering that she is well aware that I came to her strictly to lower my levels to get pregnant, this is pertinent information that she needs to know before walking into an appointment with a patient. I was consistently disappointed by her lack of knowledge about me and coldness towards me as a patient and my situation. read more

I have been seeing this doctor for about 1.5 years because she was recommended by my OB. At first I liked and appreciated that she takes early morning appointments given my very busy schedule. Unfortunately, the 3x I made an appointment for 7:30 or earlier, she was always late. I have never been seen before 7:45 and I rarely get an apology when I am there before the doctor or any staff show up. I also recently had some changes to the way my insurance covers prescriptions. Only after 2.5 months and over 6 calls and a visit to the office is my new prescription correctly going thru. To say it has been a frustrating experience is an understatement. The doctor herself is perfectly fine however when you combine all factors together, it just isn't worth the hassle. read more

Waited for over 40 minutes and there was absolutely no one in the waiting room. No communication from staff or doctor. I traveled from uptown Manhattan during a pandemic to see this doctor and had to leave because of work commitments. If they were busy I would have understood but that was ridiculous. Dr. Leonardi is quite nice. I don't find her to be cold at all - rather I think she is direct. I've been working with her for a few months now in an attempt to really tackle my pre-diabetes and I have no complaints. She has been a lot more thorough and knowledgeable than previous endocrinologists I have visited and I'm quite happy that my PCP referred me to her. It was easy to get an appointment as a first time patient and as an ongoing patient I make 7 am appointments. This allows me to get to the doctor and still get to work before 8 am. The location is very convenient to public transportation. I take the PATH to 14th Street, but the office I also quite close to the MTA. As mentioned by other yelpers, her office is small, but quite nice. Whenever I call, they answer the phone quickly and are quite helpful. I highly recommend Dr. Leonardi. read more

Holy. Cow. I was willing to give this office a pass for being twenty minutes late to telehealth visits at least 3 times in a row because you know, people get busy and it's not like there's consideration for others at the moment. But I draw the line at AN HOUR AND A HALF WAIT to see the doctor. When I showed up, another patient had been waiting forty minutes. my wait ended up being an hour and a half for literally zero reason. I'll give Dr. Leonardi credit that she has excellent bedside manner and was thorough once she arrived. But her office staff isn't doing her any favors. In the time I was waiting they said she was running twenty minutes behind (like I didn't just hear another patient saying she had Been waiting for forty) and then I proceeded to hear the entirety of another patient's medical record including her diagnosis, date of birth, full name and insurance. I just saw Dr. Leonardi for the first time after my previous endocrinologist moved from NY. I found her to be extremely professional and thorough. I had read some other comments indicating she wasn't "warm." Though her demeanor is quite reserved, I wouldn't say she is cold or uncaring. In fact, I was surprised at how much time she spent with me, going over my medical history personally and asking thorough follow-up questions. For me, attentiveness and intelligence matter more than being a humorous, chummy personality. I feel like I'm in good hands with her. read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Leonardi for over 7 years now (when she was still part of St Vincent). I praise her professionalism and knowledge, but she has no people skills and you will feel like a client, a number, rather than a patient. I go on follow ups every six months and I don't remember any appointment lasting more than 5-8 minutes. She's also not proactive, I have nodules on my thyroid and I had to prompt her a number of times to have them checked, just in case right? A few years ago, she treated me with iodine and when I told her I was still showing levels of radio activity after a number of weeks (very unpleasant experiences being stopped at airports and train stations), her answer was "it's not possible". I guess I had to look very upset, so she agreed to have me come back the next day and asked her boss (then head of the department at St Vincent) to see me. I was not looking for comfort or sweet words and he just confirmed everything that I thought, and just added "you don't need to worry, you will be fine" which worked much better than "it can't be right". That's all I needed to hear. Yes, over time I could have gone somewhere else (which I am in the process of now), but I didn't because 7 years is a lot and every time I go back I kept thinking things may change. I only kept going back because my thyroid has been stable for a while so I thought to myself why change. Now that I am showing new instability in my TSH levels, found out by a regular physical, I went back and realized I need a doctor who cares a little bit more... If you just need a "check the box Doc", go there because honestly she won't even pretend to care (someone below mentioned a cold façade and I entirely agree). But if you want someone who will provide you with proper care and more than 5 minutes of real face time... I'd highly recommend to go somewhere else. read more

I have Hashimoto's thyroiditis as well, and I have been to several different endocrinologists since my diagnosis four years ago. Dr. Leonardi is professional but also kind; I think she is very sensitive to my emotions without making those faux sympathy noises some doctors find necessary. She usually runs right on time, only once was she behind schedule. The one time I got the appointment time wrong and showed up late, they still slotted me in fairly quickly. The only thing that would make visits better would be online appointment scheduling. read more

Speaking with her on a very serious issue, I never got the sense that she cared. This was confirmed via her analysis of my test results. Pros: - She orderred a full blood work to determine the results Cons: - She reviewed the bloodwork, and told me nothing was wrong - HOWEVER - when I took the same results to a different endocrinologist, she sent me for a follow up test and it turns out I may have issues that could be treated and were missed! - The above reinforces that point that this doctor does not care. Its one thing to 'seem' like you dont care, its another to not care when you review test results. Conclusion: Look - she may have been very busy, and she is human so she may have many other things going on in her life. If the issue I went there for wasn't so personal and serious to me, maybe my review would be better. read more

I had second thoughts in regards to following up with Dr. Leonardi. ive only seen her once where she did an initial thorough work up after i have discovered i have Hashimoto's Disease but wasnt completely 100% satisfied with her. I gave today the benefit of the doubt and saw her again. First of all, there was a mix up with my appt date. I arrived there and was informed by the receptionist that my appt wasnt for today - feb 1st but on march 1st instead. i said that has to be a mistake because i marked the date down on my calendar and my phone. i never had an issue with the secretary/receptionist - i find her efficient enough whenever she dealt with me and she basically runs the office by herself. Im glad i wasn't turned away. i live in midtown east and it took me 30 mins to get to her by train but looking back, i was probably better off seeing another endocrinologist instead. When i got to the examination room, Dr. Leonardi saw me for probably less than 5 minutes. She took my bp and drew one tube of blood. Being an nurse for more than 5 years, I knew it's very important to ask your MD any questions about your health. You are the patient and that person is the health care provider. I expected so much more than a quick brush off from a doctor of her stature but honestly, i shouldnt have been so suprised. As a clinical asst professor from NYU for endocrinology, Diabetes and Medicine, i expected her to answer my questions thoroughly and easily provide some patient teaching. i was hoping for a discussion in regards to why i am unable to gain any weight and why i have sleeping problems and tire very easily despite eating healthy and exercising. I was very concerned and asked what else I could do to manage these issues if they are directly correlated to my diagnosis. But she quietly just stood there and told me that she will keep in touch with my results. i pressed on and quickly asked more questions before she was out the door, asking "so with hashimoto's disease, does the thyroid function just decrease with age" and she said "it could go both ways and said thank you." i couldnt believe that i was already being dismissed. I work with interns, residents, surgeons and attendings on a critical care unit. I have no doubt Dr. Leonardi is intelligent and knows her specialty but her bedside manner is severely lacking. From my experience, she treated me as a case or a number instead of as a patient holistically. Personally speaking, her treatment is as cold as her office. I called the office half an hour later but no one answered. I have every intention of taking my medical records and seeing another specialist instead. . if i will be treated as a business, i will take my business elsewhere. read more

I'm not going to go into detail of how unprofessional or how insensitive she and her staff is. What I can say is I know she is not the type of doctor that I want to deal with. I'm a type 2 diabetic and I take it very seriously. Even more so because I lost my father to it couple of months ago. Being the type of person that I am, I am scared of hospitals and I really wished she and her staff was more personable and treated me not like a number or a case. I feel like my existence to them is another case to charge a fee to. Having said that I called them today and got a months worth of meds filled and I plan on finding another doctor. On second thought I would not be surprised to see if there is a direct correlation of patients/ex patients who have had poor experiences with her and her staff and their background. I came here about a year ago to see Dr. Olga Leonardi because I have PCOS and wanted help with the symptoms, such as acne and hormonal imbalances. I saw her once, she did not ask me any questions, did not examine me at all, and quickly prescribed me a medication. She continued filling this medication for a full year, without ever seeing me again. That doesn't seem right, does it? I just received a bill for what I believe was a blood test that she ordered. Not only was it over $1,500 with the wrong address and phone number attached to it (the letter said they were going to send my invoice to a collection agency because they couldnt reach me. mind you, that negatively effects your credit and ends up costing even more), but she didn't even send them my insurance!!!! Dr. Olga Leonardi is a LAZY doctor. I didn't find her to be particularly cold, but she just doesn't give a sh*t. Plain and simple. read more

I've held myself back from writing a review for doctor leonardi for some time only because she herself and her PA are very nice and have great bedside manner, however my patience has run out. I have been going to this office for about two years and at this point it's purely out of what I thought was convenience and proximity. The front desk Staff is incredibly rude and always has been. Wait times are always long but today they pushed me over the edge. The patient who had an Appointment after me maybe arrived two minutes before me, therefore they took him in first. I told the receptionist I am only here for a blood test and have another appointment shortly after. She told me just a few more minutes they are finishing up. I waited a total of 1 hour and 5 minutes. This is incredibly unacceptable for a 5 minute appointment. I will be looking for a new doctor and proximity no longer matters since with dr Leonardi I would have to at least allocate 1 hour of waiting- this can be my new travel time. read more

I spent two years looking for a good endocrinologist to help me with low thyroid, and Dr. Leonardi is the one. She was warm, helpful, knowledgeable, answered all my questions, seemed up to date on the latest research, and ultimately stabilized my thyroid. Plus, she is conveniently located for me and her staff is very efficient and professional. I've recommended her to others and will continue to do so. Of all the endocrinologists I saw and rejected, she has been the most proactive and communicative. I've never had to wait a long time. On occasions I've had problems with my insurance company, and both Dr. Leonardi and her staff, helped me problem solve. Lastly, she called in a prescription for me while on vacation. So I read some of the other reviews on Dr.Leonardi......I can see where one might think she is cold but I actually think she is shy. She is the first physician that calls with test results on Saturdays and evenings.....which I loved! For the most part she always answers my questions and I don't leave feeling uninformed. I was referred to her because we were having problems trying to conceive a child......it turns out I have Hashimoto's Thyroiditis something that my PCP missed even after I had brought up several complaints of feeling tired and unable to focus visit after visit. My husband was diagnosed as a diabetic by her in October 2012 and he is doing SO MUCH BETTER since seeing her. Her staff is personable too. She arranged for us to have a free nutrition seminar after my husband was DX with Diabetes. Her straight shooting demeanor may not be for everyone but she pulls no punches. She is honest and I like it.........even when the news it is hard to hear. The last 2 times I saw her in the office they were running late.......I believe they were isolated incidents because she is typically on time. She is not a hand holder so if that is what you are looking for I suggest you find a therapist instead of an Endocrinologist. She gives you the facts and the tools needed and it is up to you to do the work and make the lifestyle changes. read more

I just spoke with someone in her office about getting my prescription refilled and it was the most unprofessional and horrible experience I EVER HAD dealing with a doctor's office. The receptionist cut me off as I was trying to explain to her what I needed and then proceeded to berate me (as if I was a piece of trash on the street) and say that the doctor is not going to give me the prescription because "it's not under my profile of meds I'm taking" but yet the this same doctor who prescribed to me several different diabetic meds and KNOWS THAT I TAKE METOFORMIN along with the meds she prescribed to me to control my sugars. When you come to any office, they ask you what meds are you on and you list them, which I have done so with her. I guess this office staff and doctor don't know how to do their jobs or take the time to look what forms I have filled out since being there. A waste of time. I wouldn't bother coming here. I'm actually looking for a new doctor at this moment because of this. Avoid this office like a plague. read more

I was recommended to Dr. Leonardi from a close friend. During my first appointment with her she was incredibly brusque and didn't say much to me. I figured at first this was because there wasn't much to say yet as she didn't have much data for my case. She was my first appointment with an endocrinologist ever. She did scan my throat and saw my thyroid had three nodules. I was sent to get a biopsy on those. I had a follow up appointment not long after my first appointment where she diagnosed that I have Hashimoto's. Oddly, the same autoimmune disorder my friend who referred me has. I didn't know anything about it though so I tried asking questions almost all of which were brushed aside. I was told to take Vitamin D and Selenium even though most people have actual meds for this condition. Not being aware of what the condition entailed I took her recommendation and went and got the vitamins/supplements and started to educate myself on what Hashimoto's is and how it effects people. My biopsy came back fine and I was told to come back 6 months later for another scan to make sure nothing was changing with the nodules. So six months passes and I am feeling increasingly terrible. My energy levels are low, my depression and anxiety worsening, my skin is getting drier, constipation, my whole body is aching on a regular basis- particularly my knees and hips and elbows. Puffy face, ankles, fingers and almost 20lbs having been gained since the summer of my initial visit despite not much change in my foods. In December 2016 I felt like I had been hit by a truck. I thought I had a terrible flu of some sort but then I looked up Hashimoto's flare up and I had almost every single indicator. I scheduled to see her again- realizing this was around the six month mark for the follow up scan. I went in, told her I had felt so incredibly bad- increasingly worse since we had first seen each other. She hardly responded at all with any human feeling even as I told her how I had been struggling. I said it was clear that my Hashimoto's was flaring up or progressing and I wanted to talk about taking actual meds for my thryroid. She negated or pushed aside almost everything I said to her about what I was experiencing. She scanned my throat again and wow- surprise surprise- one of the nodules had grown aggressively since she had seen me before. I felt like surely now she would see this was serious. I then asked AGAIN about meds since this was a clear sign to me that obviously I am not making this up. She said she didn't want to give me anything until more blood work came back- which is reasonable I suppose in regards to wanting to be specific with dosing. She inferred I needed to watch my diet more (which I do), and exersize more. I felt subtly that she was fat shaming me on my body but I wrote it off as me feeling sensitive. Later when asking for recommendations from other friends to find a different endocrinologist I found out that the friends who have seen her who are thin or average in body have had AMAZING experiences with her where she gave them amazing service, her personal cell phone number, readily prescribed meds or even GAVE them some meds free of charge that she had on hand and the two other friends who have seen her who are slightly overweight or heavy have been treated like garbage and given next to no treatment at all. I don't need a doctor to act buddy buddy with me, I would prefer they be thorough and more business like if it means better care- but the bottom line is I felt ignored, not listened to and not treated for something I CLEARLY HAVE. I felt like she didn't give a damn that I was obviously suffering when I told her so, and even after she had proof from my weight gain and the growth in my nodule. I would not suggest going to this doctor. Find someone who gives a damn and doesn't pick and choose who gets a real unbiased action plan to help treat their issues. I hate myself that I didn't do some research about Dr.Leonardi before letting her treat my hypothyroid. If possible, I want to choose negative rating about this doctor. About in Nov 2011, I was referred to Dr.Leonardi by my infertility care provider because my TSH was 4.5, and for getting pregnant the TSH has to be in normal range (0.4-4.5) but lower than 2.5. I began my treatment with her soon after the discovering of my hypothyroid. During the following 1.5 years, I took branded medicine every early morning just after got up, and did follow-up with her every other six weeks, but my TSH was always in fluctuation (changing from 4.5--to...0.02--to...4.38). That was mainly because she doesn't care about her patients at all. Every time I visited her, she just did some nurse-work to me, exactly to say including measuring blood pressure, temperature and drawing a tube of blood, no talk or little talk only if I had questions; several days later she or her receptionist would call and tell me to increase or decrease the dose upon the lab result; or I had to call to ask for the results. She didn't explain why she couldn't stabilize my TSH after so many follow-ups, or sort of to blame herself a bit for her inability. That's because she doesn't care about her patients or can't recall what treatments and how long of that treatment she had given to her patients. Your visit is solely the opportunity for her to make money. Please note she provides low quality and within at most 10 minutes (including reviewing your previous medical records) treatment per visit, but the claims were filed to my insurance company as "Office consultation 60 mins", what a shame! I actually don't care how much she might get from my insurance company, because I was planning to get pregnant, I purchased very good medical insurance, but her this dishonest behavior makes me feel sick. Please also note she is a so-called specialist, so if you have doctor-visit's co-pIay, you have to have as double or more as your primary care doctor-visit's. I regret very much that I didn't look for another endocrinologist earlier. The main reason that I'd been hesitated to do so was I didn't want to risk or probably waste at least another 3 three months to let a new endocrinologist catch up my health situation and probe the right dose of medicine for my treatment, as we all know the older, the slimmer my chances of getting pregnant. In this past March, I couldn't postpone to do IUI or IVF and couldn't fool myself anymore to still keep hope on Dr.Leonardi, so asked my OB ( I pretty trust her) to refer me an endocrinologist. With the same medicine this doctor adjusted my TSH to 1.16 in my second follow-up --the tenth week since my treatment with her (and stabilized it later on), and she made it very clear at the beginning that what we are going to do together, such as our target is to let TSH very close at 1, my height and weight are factors for deciding the dose, to draw blood for this kind of lab test has to be before 11am, etc. read more

I think Dr. Leonardi is a wonderful doctor. She is a small office, which means they are receptive to calls and requests. She never wastes time, but she lets me ask any questions I feel are necessary. I also believe that she is intelligent and aware of current research on thyroid and pituitary issues. I highly recommend her. read more

I've been seeing Dr. Leonardi for my Hashimoto's thyroiditis for five years now, and I love her. I can count on one hand the number of times she's run late; in fact, a few times if I arrived early, she took me early. She does the blood work herself in her office -- no schlepping out to a lab for a separate appointment. She's a little bit on the quiet side, but I like that better than a chatty Cathy who makes inane small talk while poking and prodding me. She'll answers all my questions and does a thorough examination. Her staff are courteous on the phone and in person. When I was pregnant with my second child Dr. Leonardi kept a close eye on all my levels and made sure I got regular sonograms to track my baby's progress. When the baby was born she was totally fine with me bringing him in to my first post-partum appointment when I had no childcare for him yet. She's kind and knowledgeable and a very, very good endocrinologist. Can't recommend her highly enough. read more
