Having a roof over one's head is high priority for shelter and a essential. I noticed pieces of roof shingles on the ground where it belongs on the roof which is not a good sign. Signs and symptoms cannot be ignored. The roof has been previously fixed numerous times in the past (botched jobs). My family called several roofing businesses to compare pricing bids and Manhattan Roofing was the only business who promptly responded coming on site to verify and survey the situation. We found Manhattan Roofing from a local newspaper print ad as my family is elderly who continues to rely on traditional printed newspapers. Keep writing! At first a man came and stood on the street to speculate the situation, but we urge him to go to the rooftop and physically see and access the situation with his own eyes as my family provided him a ladder (ergo, no excuses). George Stewart, business owner did provided a honest assessment of the situation which brought immense grief stricken and sorrow of news regarding our house but we needed to care for the immediate problem on demand: prevent water intake damage leaking inside, prevent extreme stagnant water pooling, maintain a dry roof, keep the interior dry, and remove/replace damaged roof shingles. He provided a quote which was excessively overpriced and outside our budget. The actual work was completed within two days and his team clean-up the premises which is quick as I thought it may take at least a week. George is accommodating to client's schedules and work weekends. Our immediate need is satisfied as George is professional. The result: no leaks from the roof, no roof shingles fallen onto the ground and interior dry. We were desperate for grace. I went outside to tell him that the services weren't needed at this time. I then questioned where they were from because their accents didn't sound like NYC to me. I do this as I have my reservations when a company just shows up to your home. And that's when the truck driver asked for the business card back, which I wasn't going to give him (seriously, you want your business card back?). I let a few choice words fly to which I was told that's how they breed them in the Bronx and when I attempted to take a picture of the truck's rear license plate as there wasn't one in the front (turns out they have temp plates), the driver called me fat. I would NEVER do business with such rude assholes. Who would want this sort of trash doing work on their home? You don't like Bronx then get the eff out. Originally his job was only for the garage roof but as we were doing a final inspection on the garage roof he did a fantastic job of up-selling me to also have him take a look at my building's roof by pointing out some visible deficiencies in my building's roof. Have been doing a lot of repairs and remodeling to prepare Jersey City property for sale and left the roof for last, thinking all we had to do was gutter clean and some minor sealing work. I come across this mom & pop roofing shop after I had a recommendation from a friend of mine. I was living in a pretty old townhouse down in lower Manhattan. It was 1pm in the afternoon, My housemate and I were couching and watching Netflix before I felt a drop of water hitting my cheek. I thought it was only a minor leaking until the water kept pouring down and getting worse after several minutes. I told my roommate to check the rooftop but he is scared of height. Having no experience with any handyman work, I have no clue to fix a sink let alone rooftop problem. I told him to come right away since the leaking has gotten worse. Without any hesitation, he told me that he could come in 30 minutes with his crew.
