My experience with William & Hugh Roofing resulted in a very satisfied customer! When I needed a re-roof, I looked around for different roofing companies on Yelp and was able to find a few. Hugh responded very quickly to my project and said he was free for a call. I took him up on that offer and we walked through some of the options. Given my roof's condition and via photos, he was able to give a direct estimate of the costs of the job. I don't think I can overstate how happy I am with the new roof that Hugh and Jorge and his crew just installed. Everything looks beautiful and perfect, it's almost a work of art and should be installed in a museum! The attention to detail applied to every aspect of the roof is obvious as soon as you start looking at it: the seams, the corners of the skylight curbs, the seal around the various roof vents and chimneys, the side flashing, the roof drain. To add to that, Hugh was willing to work with our specific building situation, the improvements I wanted to add, and was always interested, attentive and responsive. More detail: we have a 17 year old 3-family house in Brooklyn. The original roof wasn't installed right. The plywood decking was installed using short nails, that started pulling out, and the plywood started to warp. We hired a local roofing company to try to screw down the decking though the rubber roof as best as possible and to install a new membrane (their suggestion). That didn't really work, as the new membrane didn't go up the parapet walls, just stopped at the end of the decking, so water started getting in over the years and rotted the plywood. I started calling roofers for estimates last year. The estimates came in all over the map. Most were really expensive, while offering to just 'fix the problem" while "only replacing decking as necessary". I wanted to use this opportunity to improve the insulation in our "hotbox" apartment roof, but none of the other roofers wanted to add that to the job. Most just seemed to want to charge me as much as humanly possible, while doing as little as possible. Like I said before, Hugh was willing to work with our needs (replace the whole roof, add insulation) and was easy to work with, coordinate, communicate with, and generally a pleasure to talk to. Also, Hugh's foreman Jorge and his 3 man crew were hard working, very friendly and respectable, didn't mind me popping up to take photos for my dad (who used to do all kinds of home improvement jobs), and my questions and general interest. I was happy to let them use my apartment bathroom (who wouldn't?) and set them up with a cooler of Gatorade and water every day (how could I not?). So, would I hire Hugh again? Yes! I called Hugh on a Thursday, and told him that we have a flat roof and I think I have a leak by the drains, that's causing some moisture buildup in our 3rd floor bedroom. His pleasant attitude as well as his honest feedback over the phone prompted me to make an appointment for an estimate that weekend. He arrived early/on time, and he assessed the situation. I was actually the one asking/suggesting that we might need a new roof so that we can also correct/pitch a few areas that was collecting pools of water every time it rained. To my surprise, he explained to me that our roof is only 8 years old and in decent shape. He claimed that we could just patch the problem areas, and paint the whole roof to protect it and give us peace of mind for a few years. I'm not gonna lie, I was a little hesitant at first because the previous roofer that we've been working with for 8 years was good, but I felt as though all we were doing was putting bandaids every 2 years. Fast forward to this weekend when the project was taking place. Hugh and his crew came in and walked with me to point out the problem areas, and they got to work. Hugh and crew took care of the damaged peaked overhang above my 2nd floor window as well as the overhang above my front door. Both areas had suffered wind damage due to recent storms. Hugh's team demo'd, reframed (where needed), capped and shingled everything with high quality craftsmanship. They were able to salvage the original aluminum rain gutter and kept the dimensions so make for a super easy re-install after the fact. We also agreed to some general maintenance, sealing and silver coating of my flat roof - which was not in scope for our initial repairs but was added later on upon closer inspection. Good work at a fair price. Had a leak and was worried about having to replace the roof which was less than 10 years old. Since I had old gutters and read reviews on this company, I decided to get a quote. Hugh was very professional and offered to check and repair my leak if I hired him to replace my gutters. Jorge the foreman of the team did a great job with removing and installing my new gutters. He was also able to locate the crevice and hole on my roof and seal it. He also recommended that I have my gutter with 2 exit points to prevent overflowing of water due to heavy rains. This was all done at no additional cost and the fact that I wasn't upsold with work that I didn't need demonstrates that this company is a good one. I had a flat roof that's been in poor condition for years after my parents, who were too feeble in their later years to take care of the property, neglected it. Finally, in 2022, I was able to focus my attention on getting it repaired, since it was leaking badly in one corner, causing water damage to the two units on that side. After shopping around, I settled on William & Hugh Roofing based on reviews, and boy, am I glad I did. After sending out some pics, I was quoted a decent price. The day of the job couldn't have gone more smoothly. They came in early morning (and showed up right on schedule), worked, worked worked, cleaned up and were done by mid-afternoon. The workers couldn't have been more prompt, efficient and clean (no messes left behind, nothing) or Hugh any nicer or more professional. The completed work was nothing short of transformational. I've posted before and after pics so you can see how bad the roof was before they worked on it and the shocking difference. So far, it's rained heavily at least three times since the roof was completed and for the first time in years, I didn't hear the dreaded sounds of water plop-plop-plopping upstairs. WOW was it hard to find an honest roofer. I made appointments with many. Some never show up. Others arrive but only want to sell you a new roof. Others high ball you. That means, they take a job that they don't really want to do, and give you a pathetically high price, and hope that you fall for it. Finally I found William & Hugh Roofing . So, I called them on the phone, spoke with Hugh Sr. Very nice guy, who is well spoken and articulate. Told him I wanted all the flashing on the roof redone. (I had no leaks but I like to have maintenance done.) and also to paint my roof with that silver roofing paint.. Asked to make an appointment .He asked me the size of my house and said I didn't need an appointment. All of these two story brick houses are the same. All you need are the dimensions, (Spoke to his son also, Hugh Jr, and I guess apples don't fall far from the trees. He was just like his dad. Nice guy, articulate, same as his dad) I've done this myself years ago but no longer into it, but I DO know how it is supposed to be done. When they did the flashing, (that's a tar like substance that is used to seal the seams and cracks on the roof) they used MESH. You do the flashing, then put mesh over it and then more flashing. Roofs expand and contract with cold and heat of course, so you must use mesh with the flashing. TRUST ME. Many do NOT use mesh. If you don't use mesh, the flashing will crack via expansion and contraction. Then they painted it. VERY nicely. Hugh sent four of his workers over to do this job. ALL of them were professional and they were true gentlemen. I own a few buildings here in Brooklyn, but I only hired them to do one this time, to see how good their works was. I logged into this website on yelp webpage. I called the number and spoke to a representative. I gave him my home address figuring that someone would be sent to my house once a time and date was settled. Unfortunately, the quote I was given over the phone for asphalt roof replacement was ridiculous. I wanted a quote for asphalt and metal tile roof replacement. The quotes I received for asphalt was $20,000. He did not give a quote for metal but explained that it would be twice the cost of asphalt. All of my quotes up to now for asphalt roof replacement assuming the worst situation would have cost $10,000 - $13,000. I was delighted to read so many comments supporting the fair cost for installation and the high workmanship that this contractor provided. Speaking to the representative I found myself disappointed with the brush-off wrongly assuming that I had just started to price roof replacement and had no understanding about the process. I love these guys! Not only are they super fast, but they're also honest with you on what work you do and DONT need. A few years ago, we had leaks on our roof and spent a good five figures trying to patch the leaks with another roofer and the leaks weren't even fixed, we still had water issues. Called William & Hugh and they told us a new membrane will solve everything and explained that adding a new layer will be the cheapest, fastest, and most efficient route because it will essentially be like a new roof that seals all the cracks- which makes total sense - and they use some sort of fire retardant rubber fire fighters use. So we hired them - they were able to complete the job in a few hours for a fourth of the price and we haven't had leaks since- I wish we found them earlier! They're now our go-to guys for anything roof related. Fast forward 3 years later, a contractor had said we were getting water leaking in from the side of the building, towards the top of the building (not on the roof, but near it). Called William & Hugh again and they remembered us and came out to meet with the contractor. Told me their opinion was different from the contractor's and offered their own pov on what they felt wasn't necessary (i also didn't feel like some of their repairs were necessary) and suggested some things we could do instead to fix the supposed issue, since we were due for a maintenance soon anyway - all again for a fraction of the price. No unnecessary, inflated work and straight to the point. Needless to say, i went with their opinion and we just completed the job today. I highly recommend this company - i found them after contacting several roofers on yelp and i have to say i have not looked back since. These guys are excellent. Wow. RUDE RUDE RUDE. I called asking for a quote and if they handle a specific kind of service (a simple pedestal and paver installation on a flat roof). They told me to call the manufacturer to find someone who does this because a roofer doesnt do this kind of work. I explained that i have quotes from other roofers that do this (and had this done in my other bldg btw) and he rudely cut me off said "not really no" and proceeded to hang up on me. I have other roofing work that needs to be done as well on multiple bldgs and that conversation makes me not want to even consider this company given how they speak to people. read more

In the 2 years their commitment to excellence has diminished. First of all it took nearly 2 weeks for a response and when I finally was contacted it was 9:30 in the evening.
