(L-R) Chicken Tikka Masala, Chicken Kali Mirch, and Kadhai Goat

Random walk-in to try their lunch buffet on a Sat afternoon got us here. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Old skool Indian restaurant; dated interiors, old bar that still serves Indian classic cocktails, and a buffet that surprisingly manages to justify its $21 price tag (half-priced for kids under 6).[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Poonam, our hostess got us seated and we went straight to grabbing our food, Their buffet selection was limited, but felt perfect. Snacks included Samosa's and Chicken Pakoras with a tasty green chutney, and mains focused on dependable classics like Aloo Gobi, Saag Paneer, and a rather bland Dal Makhni. They had one Indo-Chinese mains - Fish Chilly, and non-veg mains included Chicken Tikka Masala, Goat Curry, Chicken Kali-Mirch. They also had Biryani Rice and Choley Bhature, but the Bhatura's were very thick and disappointing. They served naan and rotis on the table and the staff was friendly. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Restaurant had a good amount of foot traffic throughout our stay![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Will definitely be our local go-to-Indian restaurant in the neighborhood!

We came to manhattan valley to celebrate Diwali with our friends. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's a small and quiet restaurant, mostly families enjoying dinner.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The service was great and the staff was super friendly. We started with the vegetable samosas which were delicious because it wasn't too veggie. The salad had a great dressing with a light kick. I ordered the shrimp tikka masala and the sauce was perfect, not too creamy. It came was 5 large pieces of jumbo shrimp. For dessert, the staff sang happy birthday to my daughter with a plate of pistachio kulfi. That was surprisingly so yummy and the mango as well!

Met a friend at this lovely, cozy restaurant for their Indian lunch buffet, which was only around $20. The place was spacious, full of artwork, along with a very peaceful ambiance. For my drink, I inquired if they have Rose Lassi, and they made it for me. It was too much artificial rose flavor. I should have stuck with Mango Lassi. The buffet had a little bit of everything: Crispy fish, lamb, chicken, goat, mixed vegetables, lentils, curry potatoes, spinach with paneer cheese, samosas, naan bread, chickpeas with poori (puffy), biryani rice, as well as 3 desserts, including Indian Vermicelli (thin, sweet noodles in a creamy, milky, syrupy soup), Gulab jamun, and rice pudding. I really enjoyed the taste of each dish, especially the lightly breaded and perfectly crunchy fish, the tender and well seasoned lamb, fresh veggies, and the soft, fluffy, still warm poori. Out of the dessert, I liked the vermicelli best. I found the Gulab Jamun to be overly sweet, though the balls were well made and just the right consistency. Service was good. Our waiter was welcoming and on top of it, making sure we were well taken care of during our time here.

The food was delicious and it was a good amount for lunch. The service was great, the hostess was the main person that we saw and she was super nice especially since we were with a baby. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The ambiance was better inside, the tables were really nice but the tables were a little cramped.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We had to move the table a little to be able to sit properly.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]The ambiance was great. They had warm lights, flowers, and cute paintings.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The service was also pretty great, I went alone and the server kept coming to ask how the food was which I appreciated. The food itself was pretty good. I am used to authentic food so it wasn't perfect. If I could change something, it would be the Chicken Tikka being cut into smaller pieces and less sweetness in the curry.

    Lamb Chops ($22.95+)

Manhattan Valley is a great Indian restaurant on the corner of 100th St and Broadway. The ambiance was wonderful, with upscale decor and large tables with white table cloths. It's the perfect spot for a date night or a nice family dinner. We ordered: - Lamb Chops ($22.95+) - Chicken Tikka Masala ($16.95+) - Naan Bread ($3+) The food was well-presented, tasty and reasonably priced. I loved the naan, but the rice that came with the Chicken Tikka Masala was nice, too. If you're looking for a solid Indian place in the neighborhood, I would highly recommend it.

Curry King is: -…read moreInexpensive - Authentic (to Pakistan and north India). I could easily imagine purchasing this food on the street in Delhi. - Low brow: Think fast-food style cooking for the middle / lower middle class masses in Pakistan and north India... or for broke college students in Manhattan. Ingredients are roughly cut and minimal, with cuts of meat that include all the bone, cartilage, and gristly bits. Seasoning is very bare bones, including only the minimum of what you need to make a dish what it is. You won't find the "luxury" of a cilantro garnish for instance. - Very oily : There'a a thick layer of oily orange tane on top of every dish, which you'll find at many eateries in north India. (I think tadka / spice tempered oil is a near equivalent in south India, though we've never seen tadka in such generous quantities, even at fast food type street vendors.) In our experience, food that's served at home in middle to upper class families isn't usually this oily. - Meaty: There are a sprinkling of vegetarian dishes available (along the lines of paneer or channa dal, bit little actual vegetable matter), and meat dishes tend to be meat only, or meat and potatoes only. We ordered this food by delivery and at home, we had to chop some cilantro to sprinkle over our food, and eat substantial salads alongside, so we wouldn't feel as though we would immediately die of heart attacks + scurvy. Maybe if I still had a college-aged kid's metabolism, I'd be able to eat this kind of food -- and maybe even drink a quarter of a keg while I'm at it. But now, I worry about heart attacks and scurvy and heart burn and ulcers. I grow old ... I grow old ... I shall wear the bottoms of my trousers rolled. Going to leave this one to the young guns.
