Deducting a star because of the wait time. I think their lunch special is very popular. Good portion, delicious flavor, and kind staff.

Butter chicken tastes like ketchup. I couldn't finish more than 4 bites of this or the garlic naan, which was also very odd tasting.

Amazing food, mainly a carry out place, has few tables for dine-in. We decided to dine-in, food was served hot and delicious

Great takeout. I ordered the aloo gobi which was amazing. Portions are large and it's quick.

Yet, for some, the undiscovered remedy is Indian food. Not just any Indian food, but the kind that will make one swear off every last bit of water retained in the body while the brain forgets the hangover in attempts to fight over the insanity of the spice level ordered. Here comes Mughalai for the job. Lunch specials are excellent, offering a few courses to savor the flavors of this small establishment. Some of the best lamb vindaloo out there is found right here. Truly spectacular flavor alongside the intense spice. Wonderful samosas. Mulligatawny soup that does not disappoint. Mughlai is a casual spot that hits every parameter while delivering the kind of flavors that are hard to find outside of India.

Had we known, we would have chosen to dine elsewhere. Unfortunately, the service that followed was extremely disappointing. We felt rushed throughout the entire meal. The lights were turned on and off while we were dining, creating an uncomfortable atmosphere and making it clear that the staff wanted us out as quickly as possible. I barely had time to enjoy my dinner before feeling pressured to finish. To make matters worse, as we were preparing to leave, I went to use the restroom and was told by the manager that it was closed. Considering that I had just spent over $100 on dinner, I found that response both surprising and unacceptable. I work in the food and beverage industry, so I understand the challenges of restaurant operations and always try to be respectful and understanding. I was polite throughout the evening, yet I felt like I was treated as an inconvenience rather than a paying guest. To be fair, the food itself was excellent. However, great food cannot make up for poor hospitality. Based on my experience, I would not recommend dining at this location. The behavior of the staff was unacceptable and fell far below the standard of service I would expect from a professional restaurant.

It wasn't very crowded on this particular night, so I was seated and taken care of pretty quickly. The butter chicken tikka masala was so rich, creamy, and delicious! The chicken was incredibly tender, and the sauce was packed with flavor. The garlic naan was also excellent fresh, warm, and flavorful. It was perfect for soaking up every bit of that sauce. Great food, great atmosphere, and an overall enjoyable experience!

The one thing that stood out for us was how the staff and patrons all interacted like a family. The wait staff had a true camaraderie and seemed to interact with each other like an well-oiled machine who truly cared about their jobs, the patrons, and one another! How refreshing. As for drinks and food, you likely can't go wrong with any of their menu selections. "Must try" items include the Lemon Dahl -- a.k.a. yellow lentils (trust me; get this) -- the Chicken Tikka, and Seekh Kabab (ground lamb). But every dish we saw come out to nearby tables looked yummy!! I can't wait to go back and try even more dishes! The interior is eclectic and feels cozy! We sat at the bar during our visit, but DM would definitely be great for a date night, too, because it's so intimate feeling inside. Try Drunken Monkey if you are ever in the UES and on the lookout for some unique Indian food! We'll definitely return for another visit soon!

But the workers are very dour, almost as if they rather you not be there. I don't like to feel like I'm bothering or harassing wait staff if I ask for something. The place is also extremely dark. Coupled with their depressing demeanor, it's just not a good atmosphere. I had to ask for condiments (the green mint and chutney sauce-it should automatically come w my meal. Then it took them forever to bring it-as my food was getting cold, I had to get up and ask for it again. Mind you, there was only three ppl including myself in the whole place-wasn't busy at all. I also asked for the red onion relish which used to be complimentary-they charged for that. Fine, but it shouldn't take all day to bring out. They need a little more decorum!

The food is good and filling - if you get the "combo" between 4 PM and 9 PM. I can always tell when a new cook is in the kitchen, though. Sadly, "the heat" (the spiciness) is not as strong. The last time I ordered Chicken Shahi Korma, I had to add my own chopped pepper. The chicken samosas aren't as good anymore either. The dough seems different, thicker maybe. They need to put somebody old school back in the kitchen!
