Dear Anar, Thank you for the best indian food in new york city. For the delightful experience and wonderful pleasant service of the entire front staff. For the delicious flavors and wholesome ingredients from the chefs. For the lovely atmosphere of fresh table flowers to the melodies of the soundtracks. For the perfect location on the upper west side with plenty of parking and transportation. For the incredible pricing that is unmatched anywhere else and perfect portion sizes. You will always be my favorite indian restaurant and no one even comes in close. with Love, All of us

I'm really disappointed with this place. I came here hungry and Yelp also led me to believe this place is good. This place lacks flavor in everything. I had some of the worst chicken curry I've ever had. Lacking complete flavor. The chicken wasn't even enjoyable. My Lamb karma was extremely chewy. The sauce on that was actually good, but that was the highlight of the meal sadly was the sauce. We got the Samosa chaat as an appetizer. Kind of like Indian nachos in a way. That was good. But our entrées were totally awful. Good None. I feel usually like Indian food is always good, until I come to this place. It lacked flavor, lacked the Indian spice that I know in love, and that is common in a lot of restaurants, and I was super letdown when I was super hungry and spent $65 on a meal that wasn't good in New York City. I would not come here. I would not rely on being filled with good food here. The portions are good. Everything on paper or at least visually looks like it'll taste good, but it was really disappointing.

The coconut chicken curry I had didn't really taste like coconut at all. The garlic naan was good. It's a pretty good price, and it was pretty crowded when I went on the weekend. It's nice inside, and the staff are great.

Takeout: Vegetable Samosa - 2 pcs. Vegetable pakora, Paneer Tikka Masala

I haven't had Indian food in my area yet, but this was the closest one to my apartment, so I decided to try it out on Thanksgiving. I was pleased to know they were open on the holiday. I ordered a vegetable samosa, vegetable pakora, and paneer tikka masala. All of this cost about $30, which I thought was a little pricey for how much I got... well that's new york lol! It took about 10/15 minutes for my food to be ready. The food: - vegetable samosa: kind bland, didn't really have any flavor to it. - vegetable pakora: pretty good. Could have a little bit more spices to it, but pretty good. - paneer tikka masala: loved this!! So good!! I just think it deserves a little bit more rice. Overall pretty good spot in the uws. Rate: 7/10 Price: $$

Shrimp Curry, Aromatic Basmati Rice, mixed green salad, Chana Masala

My job ordered Anar for lunch and it was amazing. Although I didn't sit at the restaurant I had the chance to try the basmati rice with shrimp curry, mixed green salad and Chana masala which was delicious.

The Indian restaurant near the University of India is out! Lamb curry The mutton has no smell and is a little salty. It's okay to mix rice. I like this nann very much. It's very chewy and fragrant. The side dishes are also suitable and won't get tired. The location of the restaurant is really good, the scenery is very good, and the attitude of the service staff is also good. Almost all of them are Indians. I packed, but I felt uncomfortable after eating it. Hahahaha, I don't know if this is the reason.

There were a lot of people here when I walked by. My friend and I decided to try this place and were seated right away at the only open table. Appetizer 4/5 Samosa chaat - my favorite of everything we ordered. Its essentially a deconstructed samosa with sauces on top. Very flavorful, a little too much flavor actually. It could use a little more carbs to balance out each bite. Would totally order this again. Entree 4/5 Chicken tikki masala - sweeter than expected, good flavor. I enjoyed this. Would order again 2/5 Lucknowi Lamb Korma- there were fatty pieces on the meat (not a lot) but it bothered me a little so i ate around it. Everything else didnt really make an impression on me. Would not order again Other 2.5/5 Mango lassi - this was fine. I expected the first sip to be more refreshing than it was. It got pretty sweet 1/3 of the way through. I didn't end up finishing it 3/5 Rosemary naan - never seen this anywhere! Was pretty excited for this but the rosemary didnt make much of a difference They advertise BYOB. The table next to us finished two bottles of wine! We were here for about two hours. It was a really pleasant atmosphere to chat in despite it being a little loud. The staff politely gave us our bill, then politely told us they were closing. They closed at 9:45 but didnt ask us to leave until after 10p at which they asked everyone to leave.

I really wanted to enjoy this place, but I have to say I was a little saddened with the quality. I think the service is probably the best thing. I've had better indian food in the city. The staff was extremely nice though! The best thing on the menu that we got was the garlic naan. It was garlicky, the bread was soft. We did enjoy their fish dish :) but their combo plate had various meats that were pretty tough, and were overwhelming in flavor. Some of the lamb was kind of not edible sadly because it was grounded and didn't taste good.

Very good Indian food, good service in a store front restaurant. Had samosas, and tikka masala. Both were delicious. Recommended.

Before I ordered over the phone, I checked online and saw that we would get a free dessert with the entrees. However, we didn't get it when we ordered over the phone. The bread basket/ order we got was 1 garlic naan and 2 plain naan. We didn't receive the paratha; not sure what happened. The food was alright. The chicken in the butter Chicken was tough not tender but the sauce was good. Palak paneer was good. The garlic naan didn't have much garlic taste; it had more cilantro than garlic. I was excited to orderfrom this place because we ordered food from them before. I was a bit disappointed this time. I think the food could have been better.

I could easily imagine purchasing this food on the street in Delhi. - Low brow: Think fast-food style cooking for the middle / lower middle class masses in Pakistan and north India... or for broke college students in Manhattan. Ingredients are roughly cut and minimal, with cuts of meat that include all the bone, cartilage, and gristly bits. Seasoning is very bare bones, including only the minimum of what you need to make a dish what it is. You won't find the "luxury" of a cilantro garnish for instance. - Very oily : There'a a thick layer of oily orange tane on top of every dish, which you'll find at many eateries in north India. (I think tadka / spice tempered oil is a near equivalent in south India, though we've never seen tadka in such generous quantities, even at fast food type street vendors.) In our experience, food that's served at home in middle to upper class families isn't usually this oily. - Meaty: There are a sprinkling of vegetarian dishes available (along the lines of paneer or channa dal, bit little actual vegetable matter), and meat dishes tend to be meat only, or meat and potatoes only. We ordered this food by delivery and at home, we had to chop some cilantro to sprinkle over our food, and eat substantial salads alongside, so we wouldn't feel as though we would immediately die of heart attacks + scurvy. Maybe if I still had a college-aged kid's metabolism, I'd be able to eat this kind of food -- and maybe even drink a quarter of a keg while I'm at it. But now, I worry about heart attacks and scurvy and heart burn and ulcers. I grow old ... I grow old ... I shall wear the bottoms of my trousers rolled. Going to leave this one to the young guns.
