If you're craving Indian food, this is a spot you definitely need to check out. It's some of the best Indian cuisine I've had! The butter chicken and garlic naan are a must-try--packed with flavor. Their biryani is also one of my top favorites. While the portions may be on the smaller side, I still believe it's totally worth it. Service was good and very attentive. Thank you Baazi. I will be coming back.

Paneer Ke Sholey ($16)

Walked in on a Sunday evening for dinner - our first time in our neighborhood Indian place. We wanted to find out our go-to Indian restaurant and were hoping Baazi would hit the spot. Unfortunately it did not! Service however was pretty good and they have a very friendly staff. We got two glasses of wine and ordered Paneer Ke Sholey ($16), Amritsari Fish ($17) - which was absolutely excellent, 2-day Dal Makhani ($19) - their website has a typo in the price and this is not for $29! Food came within 20 minutes of ordering and the Paneer Ke Sholey was presented in a very nice way! Might visit again for the convenience of location and friendly staff.

Dumpukht Lamb biryani, Butter Chicken, Garlic Naan

Nice upscale Indian restaurant on the UWS w/ tasty food and good service! Ordered a couple things but the gosht biryani was my favorite- flavorful w large chunks of lamb. I liked the presentation as well w baked naan over the pot and served w raita (yogurt sauce). Their naan is so fluffy and served warm. We also tried a mango cocktail which tasted like puréed mangoes- delicious!

Came here on a pulsd deal $59 for 3 courses with a bottle of wine. We combined two vouchers and every meal was magical. I had the lobster dish, my mom had the branzino, my husband had the chicken korma and my step father had the butter chicken. My mom usually brings her own chilies to dinner and the server noticed and joked that they also have chilies at the restaurant lol he even gave her some more to eat her meal with. So needless to say, the service was fantastic. As for Ambiance, the restaurant is beautiful, it's on the smaller side but I noticed that there was an upstairs. All in all if you like indian food, I'd encourage you to try Baazi. Definitely get both the gulab jamon and the kulfi as well!

BANARASI ALOO ANGOORI TIKKI
Marina B.

We reserved a table for dinner but found their dining room full and were seated upstairs. It felt more like an event space and had a vastly different ambience than downstairs. There were empty cardboard boxes laying around and bright fluorescent lights (you'll see my food pics, I did NOT use a flash lmao). Service was pretty slow and we waited 15+ mins for a beer and papadums (two items with practically zero prep). The food, once we got it, was good. My favorite was the aloo angoori tikki. Could have been 4 starts if service and ambience had been any better.

Dal Makhani & Garlic Naan

Dined here on a Wednesday evening with no reservation. Almost all tables downstairs were occupied. During the meal I noticed they have seating on a second level as well. Slightly limited menu for vegans, which is what my friend is, because dishes we were considering had cream in them. They kept it out of the cauliflower dish so sure could have it. We ordered several dishes thinking it might be too much but we ate everything and enjoyed them all! Luckily we had a 4-person table so there was room for everything! We started with the Channa Samosa and Baazi cauliflower. The cauliflower has a nice level of spice. The samosa is deconstructed but loved the preparation. I could just eat this! For my entree I had the dal makhani, which I knew I wanted ahead of time (luckily I read in another review that the price on their web site is incorrect and higher than it actually cost). We also got garlic naan and basmati rice (rice is not included with dishes). Overall an enjoyable dining experience!

The tamarind mule was amazing! The naan, korma, lamb chops, and dessert was !Friendly staff! Great atmosphere in the place! Would definitely come back here for my dad's bday!

Paneer Ke Sholey

Excellent North Indian food, one of the best in Manhattan Valley. Kind of a hole in the wall with some cultural decor and friendly service. Order: 1.) paneer ke sholey -- DELICIOUS. I've never had this delicacy and I was so pleasantly surprised to try it. I'd return just to have only this again. It's sliced cottage cheese with a raisin-infused soft cheese spread over it. Cannot recommend more. 2.) the goat lal Maas (red meat) was excellent. Rich flavor, chef's kiss to the delicate cilantro infusion that came out every other bite. Drinks: Indian Summer was quite good because it had real mango pulp in it and couldn't taste the alc. The ginger margarita was also very good (spicy cup spicing).

Ate here at the recommendation of a relative. Chef Anand catered her close friend's wedding. Baazi is Asian fusion and delicious. The grilled paneer was delicious. The imli ribs were amazing but with ribs there is also layers of fat. Perfect to share. The chicken sirka pyaaz was very rich and flavorful.

Butternut Squash Kofta
Pratibha S.

This place honestly far exceeded my expectations - generally I tend to think fancy Indian food is overpriced, but was really impressed by the quality/innovation of the food here. The butternut squash kofta was an absolute must, so crispy and melted in my mouth. Also LOVED the mango cocktail (Indian summer) - literally tasted exactly like mango nectar, wish all cocktails tasted like this :)

paneer ke sholey

Food is delicious but portion size is abysmal!!! Like, We ordered the paneer and it was 2 small pieces. The biryani used to be great but this time it had absolutely no flavor. No salt. Terrible.

I generally don't eat Indian/spicy food. Someone arranged this place for a group, so I am heading there. What is not at all spicy that I should aim to order? I don't have any other food restrictions.

The restaurant is good at adjusting spice level. Tell them that you don't want anything spicy. On…

How could I not love a place with the name, Scarlet Lounge?…read more It takes a lot to get me to venture to this part of town and I honestly cannot remember the last time I had a night out on the Upper West Side, but Scarlet has been on my list since I saw owner, Michael Imperioli's announcing the opening on Instagram. I found myself in the area on recent Friday evening and decided to meet up with two friends here. I was smitten at first sight of the beautifully-appointed room, with seductive red drapery and gold accents. All I wanted to do was curl up on one of the velvet chairs and spend my entire evening captivated by imagined past lives of this space... Dorothy Parker holding court here with her Vicious Circle, sipping on Gibsons and martinis. You're going to have a glorious time. We were welcomed by a dashing gentleman at the door who kindly found us seating in the sultry little nook by the piano. Our server never left us wanting for anything and believe me, we wanted it all. Cocktail names are well-priced, especially for Manhattan. I kept to a decent bubbly and thoroughly enjoyed every minute of my time here.

ONE BARTENDER FOR THE ENTIRE BAR -- READ BEFORE YOU GO:…read more I've never felt more gaslit by positive reviews in my life. The people calling this place "amazing" are either Sopranos fans, personally connected to management, or grading on an unbelievably generous curve. I have absolutely nothing to gain from distorting my experience. And judging by reviews like Benny R's below, I'm clearly not the only one saying this: if you go to The Scarlet, expect to wait forever, get ignored, and leave frustrated. And the worst part? It's not even a one-off bad night. I've been to The Scarlet multiple times, and every single visit has been the exact same mess: one bartender trying to run the entire place alone while customers sit around waiting endlessly for service. Last night (May 20), there were around 20-25 people in the bar between the tables and bar seats, and a single bartender was expected to do everything: make drinks, take orders, deliver cocktails to tables, clear space at the bar, all of it. Unsurprisingly, service moved at a glacial pace. My date and I were seated when we arrived and after waiting 30 minutes without anyone coming over, I finally had to walk up to the bar and order my own drink. It was deeply uncomfortable and unprofessional. Management charging $25 per cocktail while refusing to properly staff the place is ridiculous. If you're going to price drinks like a luxury lounge, at least operate like one. MEMO TO MANAGEMENT - stop being cheap and hire another bartender. Your customers are paying enough to deserve basic service.

"Things to Consider":…read more 1. Food - fine if you want to pay hotel prices for food that you can get at a New Jersey or Long Island mall at much lower prices. Paper plates, plastic cutlery and pita chips warmed and served in the bags they came in. 2. Service - non-existent. No staff members acknowledge your arrival. You either have to wave madly or go to the bar and ask for a drink. The staff is always closing early with the staff excuse that "we are not busy" yet guests are routinely turned away. The staff is not happy and begrudge being there. DO NOT believe in the hours posted on the website. There is a built-in clientele but the staff can't wait to close it down. I don't know what is wrong with management but they have lost the plot. 3. Ambience - The space could be so much better than it is. The lighting is okay but the seating in the bar area is not appropriate. The adjoining cafe has a better feeling. Ambience has a lot to do with making guests feel welcome - this staff doesn't understand the meaning of hospitality but they should not be blamed. It is clear they have no training and are not held to any standard. If you want to go to a great space, go to the Wallace Hotel around the corner (I am NOT affiliated with them... have just gone there many times). It is so sad to see a place with such potential be so poorly run, especially as they have such little competition. The Arthouse Bar has the potential to be THE leading cocktail/music/late-night bar on the Upper West Side.

Usually that would mean that service is faster as the staff are walking out of the kitchen, but the service here was unbearably slow. We had to crane our heads to get our orders taken, to find someone to give us our bill, and to ask about our order. We ordered a drink (the second drink was sold out and my friend was uninterested in other options) and two appetizers and the drink came first, followed by a twenty minute wait for calamari. The calamari was probably the thinnest squid in the ocean and looked like shoestring fries, but the sauce it came in was delicious. There were approximately three zucchini sticks and four peppers in the calamari, which is on par with many restaurants, but less bang for your buck. It eventually became clear after another 10 min wait that our truffle fries were nowhere to be seen, and since we had to leave for our dinner reservation soon we struggled to flag a server, who then told us that they never put in our fries order. We obviously did not ask them to start making it for us, instead asking for the bill and then leaving. I wish I liked this place more than I did, but the service and staff here were so slow and hard to flag down it felt like we spent our entire meal looking around.

A Must-Visit NYC Gem: Incredible Music, Food, and Energy! If…read moreyou want the ultimate New York City night out, Prohibition is the place to be! We had an absolute blast from the moment we stepped inside. The whole experience--from the warm welcome at the door to the high-energy live music--was 10/10. The Food Experience: Truly Next Level The food here isn't just "bar snacks"--it's a full-on culinary experience. We tried several dishes and honestly, every single one was a hit: * Grandma's Sunday Sauce: This was the star of the show. It's pure comfort in a bowl and tastes like it's been simmering for days. * The Bacon: You can't go wrong here. It's perfectly prepared, smoky, and dangerously addictive. * The Burrata: So fresh and creamy--the perfect way to start the meal. * Crispy Shrimp: These had the perfect crunch and were packed with flavor. The Vibes & Service The host set the tone right away with a great welcome, and the service throughout the night was seamless. It's rare to find a spot that balances a sophisticated "speakeasy" atmosphere with such friendly, attentive staff. And of course, the music! The live band was electric and kept the energy high all night long. The "Roaring 20s" vibe is so well-done--it feels intimate but exciting at the same time. Final Verdict I would definitely suggest Prohibition to everyone! Whether you're a local or just visiting the city, this is the spot for great food, amazing service, and a vibe you won't find anywhere else. We'll definitely be back for more!
