I ordered Kare Kare and laing with pork belly yesterday. I was so disappointed with the Kare Kare. The sauce lacks the peanut butter taste, the color was too light. The only vegetable were three slices of small eggplants. There's no tripe, sitaw (long beans) etc. I drove from Belmont all the way to Pineville to fill this craving and was very disappointed. As for the laing with the pork belly. The laing tasted good and pork belly was a perfect pair. I took this time to write a feedback in hopes that Manila Grill is reading the reviews. I hope they will look into their Kare Kare recipe and improve it, between the taste and incomplete ingredients, this is the reason for a two stars. read more

Manila grill is located within the Alley 51 food hall. I'm actually just really happy to see Filipino food being available and not at absurd prices. The service was quick we got so lechon and rice and of course had to get halo halo. Dessert was the highlight of the meal, in my picture you'll see all the toppings that were included. They did not skip out on anything! Service was friendly, and overall being in the food hall, vibes were really relaxed and I like being able to grab food from the different vendors and try a little bit of everything my family ordered. read more

Take out is their business. Sent my husband for halo halo at $7.00. I wanted only the ice separated as it would melt and water it down by the time it got home. So the attached photos is what I got. 1 1/2" of fruits in a separate cup they had 1 tablespoon of ube & a 1x1 inch square of flan. so I have maybe a total of 2" of stuff that goes in halo halo. But they did not include evaporated milk! Now I have to go out and get evaporated milk?? Bottom line is they did it wrong and I won't ever order this from them again. Ambiance: 10/10 - great mural, lots of seating Service: 7/10 - the young lady taking orders this evening was very sweet however the woman behind her packing dishes had a bad attitude Food: 6/10 - was not at all impressed by the sisig which was a weird greasy stew, definitely not what sisig is supposed to be. Halo-halo was loaded but made with crunchy, snow cone type ice instead of shaved ice. It melted quickly and turned into a soupy drink. For the non-Filipino, Manila Grill is an introduction to popular Filipino cuisine. For the Filipino, it's not what you were hoping for. I was excited to eat some Filipino food in Charlotte. It's been a while since there's been a Filipino option in this city and there was a lot of buzz when word got out. But my visit was lackluster. Sisig Lumpia Shanghai Chicken Adobo Palabok Chicken BBQ The lumpia was the best item. This is tough to write because I want them to have the opportunity to get better. Food is way overpriced for such poor quality. Spent over $80 for 8 lumpia, an order of pansit, Sinigang and pork adobo. I paid because it was a family outing and there isn't much Filipino restaurants in charlotte. The lumpia was undercooked (pork was still raw), pansit was very bland and same for the adobo. Only thing that was decent was the Sinigang. Overall we left pretty disappointed and underwhelmed. It's unfortunate because I would love to support a Filipino restaurant but the quality is just not there. read more

This is the first and only family-owned authentic Filipino cuisine food hall in the Charlotte area whose menu serves variety Filipino dishes that's similar to your mother and grandmother's recipes back home. If you've never had Filipino cuisine, I would suggest start with chicken adobo (bone-in chicken marinated in soy sauce, vinegar, garlic and bay leaves served with steamed Jasmine rice), pansit bihon (stir-fried noodles with chicken and vegetables), beef tapa (marinated beef strips) served with garlic rice. They have a new "boodle fight" box which you can get at a very reasonable price. Especially if you can't decide what to get - this is such a deal! The staff is very warm and friendly, their decor are pieces from Philippine history with a portrait of their national hero Jose Rizal. The mural created by a family member and was inspired by their hometown in Manila which is the capital of the Philippines. Their prices are fair. Lumpia taste fine. But should be a quick service item and it took more than 25 minutes to get. On top of that we ordered one bbq skewer which should also be a quick service item. We didnt even get that they told me when i had to check on my order after 25 minutes that it was going to be another 6 minutes for the bbq. They have been open for a year! This is in the Alley 51 Food Hall. I have eaten the beef Kare-Kare twice. It usually takes about 20 minutes or so for them to make it. The first time the peanut sauce was very nutty, the second time it was less so. The second time they only had plastic spoons, I probably should have asked if they had another utensil as the cabbage was hard to cut with the spoon. Craving for Filipino food and have not had a chance to cook. Went to this chain among all the Asian foods chains. I was disappointed with all the food I ordered. First no wow factor that a Filipino food has with all the menu they have. I spent $67 and went to trash. Their rice which is one of an important staple is not cooked well. It really lacked water when they cooked it. The only good taste is the egg roll. This is a first time I am placing a review for a Filipino cuisine. The name does not speak for itself. I have eaten here twice. The food is decent but the service is a travesty. Yesterday I took my 3 children and the total was over $130. I just paid because my kids were present. I'm pretty sure that I am being robbed every time I go there. The quality is about par with McDonald's and feels shameful that a little shack with no service would be so expensive. My friends and I are from Chicago and we came to Manila Grill to have dinner. Let me tell you, we had a fantastic experience there. The service was impeccable. Food came quick and the serving portions were very generous. Everything that we ordered tasted great (and I am a true blue Pinoy who is very picky when it comes to Filipino food). So disappointing that this might be someone's first time experiencing Filipino food. Don't get me wrong I was really looking forward and excited to see a Filipino restaurant near by, but I feel that the food could have represented the Philippines better. The pancit is one of the biggest staples of the Filipino cuisine and it had the aftertaste of the water from the can green beans that they have used. There is long beans available in the Asian market right beside them, why not use it? The short cut of using cheaper canned products is affecting the flavor! The Bbq skewers is pretty pricey. And the halo halo...where's the milk?! And looks like they served it on the smallest cup they could possibly find. Please do better. read more

The food court is attached to an international market which was pretty cool. The menu looked great but the dish that I wanted (meat marinated with spice and pineapple juice topped with an egg ) was not available so I ordered lechón kowali, which is deep fried pork belly served over rice. The order took at least 20 minutes, probably closer to 30 and the rest of my party were almost done with their meals. While tasty, they were big chunks and there was a huge amount of fat. Since I never had them before, I have nothing to compare it to. The rice was tasty with pickled vegetables and a vinegar sauce. I bought the sweet cheese corn - not knowing what to expect as well. It's canned corn with some kind of sweetened water and what looks to be Kraft cheese powder placed on top. The woman at the counter advised me to mix it before eating. A hard no for me. And believe me I tried. Finally, the food court area is clean, busy and overall a nice place to head to for lunch or dinner.
