    White jollof rice with lamb
    Cotrane P.

I'm not very experienced with west African cuisine but I'm an open-minded eater. I'll start with customer service. I ordered online from their website. The website menu shows that there are certain things that are available on the menu every day, and other items, including Jollof rice, that are only available on certain days. However, on the actual online ordering menu, it shows everything. So when ordering you need to be sure that what you want is actually available that day. That said, when I placed an order for a menu item that was not actually available today. My phone rang almost immediately, and when I answered, it was the restaurant telling me that they did not have that item today and suggesting a similar replacement. The woman I spoke to was very kind, courteous, and apologetic, and we were able to update my order quickly and easily. I'm leaving this issue out of my rating, but just be mindful of ordering online. I ordered the white jollof rice with lamb. The rice is not actually white. It's more of a brown color, but a major contrast from the more traditional red jollof rice. It is sort of a broken rice, like you might find in some Asian cuisine and I t's more of a dry rice dish, but not in a bad way. It was very tasty. The lamb was tender and came with a boiled egg, some sautéed onions and a few other vegetables on top. When I picked up my food, I was asked if I wanted spicy. I thought they were asking if I had ordered it with extra spice, so I said it doesn't matter. He went to the back and came back with a small container of what ultimately reminds me of a very spicy, but smooth type chili paste. It was quite hot and also had some deep flavorful smoky notes. While I did not eat in the restaurant. I can say that it was very clean, spacious brightly colored and had a cheery atmosphere. The staff was very nice and offered samples to some people who were at the register trying to figure out what they wanted to eat. I would absolutely recommend trying Tima if you're over in East Charlotte or if you wanted to make a special trip. I think it would be worth your while.

Excellent food and service. Reminded me of my time in Senegal. The Dibi was absolutely delicious, as was the Ginger Juice. The music playing was great as well. I'll definitely return when I'm back in Charlotte

But Tima's food is also quite different, since Tima serves dishes from Francophone countries like Mali and Senegal.

On this particular visit, I sat on the patio, which I had never done before, but it was nice and quiet and very relaxing on a Sunday evening. I ordered the cheesecake and it was garnished with caramel popcorn, which added a nice touch to look at, but the popcorn was stale so I don't really think it was necessary, but it did make the plate look pretty. The cheesecake was delicious. Couldn't finish it all, but I took it home and finished it the next day. Our server was great. She was very attentive, friendly, and gave good suggestions. Love Crave and I'll again and again.

But a good friend of mine said that they go all the time and haven't had any issues and wanted to get me to try it again. So, we went on a Saturday evening around 6ish. We didn't necessarily have any issues getting in, but the hostess did say that her security might have an issue with the shirt my friend had on, even though he was very dressed up. It made me uncomfortable and seemed threatning almost. But she let us in and everything was fine. I don't understand why Crave always acts this way. But then when I walk in I see people of non-color dressed any kind of way, casual, etc. It just really rubs me the wrong way and for it to happen to me EVERY time I go, only leads me to one conclusion... So, anyway. We were there and we ordered hookah drinks and had a good time. Our server was super sweet and chill. She really saved the visit. I had a good time, but I most likely will not be back again.

Flavorful, with both very savory and yet light ingredients which made it perfect for an entree. Not too dense but also filling enough for the wait until dinner. Then the salmon a la plancha. The salmon was cooked to perfection and not overdone, which is unfortunately often the case. The perfect portion along with the tomatoes and kale to keep it rich, but still somehow light. Ended the night with their signature (and recommended) le citron lemon dessert which was to die for. The waitress also brought me some madelines with an adorable little personalized message to complement my little mom's solo night out. 10 out of 10 and certainly can't wait to come again!

The fries were battered and very crispy. These are the best kind! Complimentary Puff Pastry (4/5): These had the flavor of the bread at Brazilian steakhouses but with a different texture. The pastry was crumbly and there was a chilled gruyere mousse inside. Nice way to start the meal. French Onion Soup (3/5): Thick soup with lots of flavor. A little too sweet and tangy for me. I liked how much cheese there was on top. Duck A L'Orange (3/5): The duck wasn't that great. The skin wasn't crispy and it was a little too gamey. There was also very little meat in general. The orange sauce was runnier than I expected and very subtle. Good amount of potatoes and green beans which were solid. La Ricane (4/5): Reminded me of a Snickers ice cream bar but instead of ice cream it was a fluffy nougat. Good, but hard to justify the price when the ice cream version from the store is better and much cheaper haha Complimentary Madeleine (3/5): Nice that they gave these out at the end of the meal! Soft and bready with a light lemon flavor. Service was pleasant and quick, and you can't beat the value (12 cookies for $8 instead of $24). We will have a few to enjoy over the weekend now. I would definitely return. @azfitfoodfun
