I was diagnosed with cataracts and was referred to Mann Eye. I had to go though the same testing and changed more for these tests. My insurances isn't paying for anything. I didn't care for Dr.Barker, he didn't even introduce himself or talk to me. He seems too Arrogant and full of himself. First impression. I'm driving in from out of town and sent to their north location, extremely out of my way and an inconvenience just to make a payment which I paid in full, $4643.56 out of pocket! Due to their mis-scheduling for my second eye surgery follow up and attitude. I can't be given next day notice or time TBD to come in. I had family members who rescheduled their work schedule to transport me to and from. I cancel and going to the Barkley Eye Center in Katy, Texas. As for my refund, for doing nothing but dilating my eyes they are keeping $582.36! Nothing but crooks! read more

Amazing!! My LASIK experience could not have been better. Everyone at the North and South locations was so happy and friendly. It was the best team of medical professionals I've ever delt with. They made me feel comfortable and confident with my decision and I'm so happy with the results. I wasn't particularly motivated to get Lasik ... until my husband had his done last month at Mann Eye, and he raved about the experience and the results. So I figured, what the hell? Might as well get perfect vision for 2018. Scheduling the free initial consult was easy, just a few minutes online. They email you three forms you can print and complete in advance, so the check-in is a breeze. Every single staffer I met was courteous, professional, and prompt. The team explains everything thoroughly, so you can make the choice about the procedure and payment method. Dr. Cessac is the director of the center and also performed my exams. She was kind and patient. After meeting her, I was reassured that they use the very best technology and standards of care to ensure optimal outcomes. The day of the procedure, everything is like clockwork. They explain everything beforehand, and then a dedicated staffer is right beside you to explain everything as it's happening, too. My husband got to watch the whole thing on the monitors. The true measure of a business is how they respond when things go wrong -- I had a very, very rare complication the morning after my procedure wherein my eyes became dehydrated and my corneal flaps slipped. Fortunately, they see all their patients the morning after the procedure, so it was addressed quickly (there is also an emergency number patients can call). Dr. Cessac rehydrated my eyes and very thoroughly explained what happened, what she did to treat it, and what I could expect going forward. My surgeon, Dr. Mike Mann himself, called me at home a few hours after they fixed the dehydration to make sure I was well and to answer any questions. They also had me drop by the following Monday for just a few minutes, to triple-check and reassure me that everything was great. Dr. Tremblay did that exam, and his bedside manner is impeccable. I work nights, so scheduling things among daywalkers is often a problem. Not so with Mann Eye! The staff has bent over backwards to make sure my appointments are convenient for me. They are masters of efficiency; I never have to sit around like at any other doctor's office. But you're never rushed, they are patient with as many questions as you may have. I wouldn't send a friend or loved one anywhere but Mann Eye Institute. It was a fantastic experience from start to finish. NEVER again order a pair of glasses from them!!!!! It's been 6 weeks since I ordered (and paid for) my new glasses, was told that they would be ready in 3!!! I've been calling since the 4th almost 5 week and am told every time (5 times now) that someone will call me back!!! NOT ONCE has anyone returned my call to SIMPLY let me know where my glasses are!!! I've been eyeing a relatively new procedure for the treatment of keratoconus (yes, I recognize the pun) for a few years. When I finally decided to investigate it to have it done, I first went to another practice to whom my optometrist referred me. (I'm sure you'll find a few similar stories regarding the same practice on this page.) The scheduling process was simple and painless -- they had me scheduled to be seen in two days with their corneal specialist (Dr. Tremblay)! I got there a little early because I knew that I would need to fill out some paperwork. The staff was tremendously friendly. Each introducing themselves by name, making sure that I was comfortable, and answering any questions that I had about anything along the process. Dr. Tremblay is a super nice gentleman who also knows his craft! I had a few questions to ask him (even with all my research), but I didn't even have to ask them because he covered it all when I was talking to him! When I stated that I wanted to get this procedure done and not wait, he had me speak with Roland, their patient counselor. Roland helped me schedule the procedure (for next week!), answered my questions about payment and follow up appointments, and just made me feel even more comfortable about the procedure and about Dr. Tremblay. Not only do I have a new ophthalmologist, I believe I will be getting my optometry needs served here too. I highly recommend them. Medical issues are stressful. Having someone who recognizes that and calms your nerves makes a world of difference. I'll post an update after my procedure, but all in all, thank you already! read more

This is the best place in South Austin for routine and advanced eye care. I had my cataract surgery with them and I have never been able to see better. I have to say that I'm disappointed with the results of my wife's Lasik surgery, especially when you consider the cost. She had her Lasik surgery done 3 1/2 years ago and started experiencing problems with her vision around a year ago (had a baby, so just didn't have the opportunity to get another exam done). We recently visited our optometrist and it turns out she now needs glasses again. I myself had Lasik done 10 years ago (not from Mann Eye) and my vision has remained perfect, and I paid about half the cost of what Mann Eye charges. I called Mann Eye to see what they could do and we'd be looking at paying another $1,500 per eye for a refinement. I expected we'd have to pay a fee for a "refinement" but that's completely crazy for what amounts to a few hours worth of work. UPDATE: I upgraded this to 2 stars because a representative from Mann Eye reached out to me (almost immediately) to address some of my concerns. I definitely appreciate the fast response and they are willing to work with me on the costs as well as doing a free eye exam to re-diagnose my wife. I will update again when there's progress. UPDATE: True to their word, Mann Eye took good care of us and offered us a great discount for a corrective procedure. They explained thoroughly why my wife's eyesite had degraded and I feel that we are partially to blame because we didn't act sooner when the problems first surfaced. Whatever the case, I'm pleased with the follow-up and that they were able to work something out with us. read more

The consultation went fine. Scheduled the procedure. Arrived on time for my appointment. Sat around in the waiting room past my appointment time for awhile just for them to come out and tell me the lasik machine had broken and they were waiting for technician to come fix it. They told me I could wait in the waiting room with everybody else waiting for their appointments or I could go home and come back in a few hours. My friend who came with me (since you can't drive yourself home afterwards) and i told them we would be back and we went across the street to catch a movie that was starting right then. Before the movie was over they were calling me asking me where was i. "Um... you told me it was going to be a few hours." "We're ready to go and we need you back here now so we can shut down the office." I was the first appointment that morning and I ended up being the last one out. I then went in for my follow up appointment a couple days later and they had my records all messed up. They thought I was there for my initial consultation. I had to tell them multiple times I was not there for my initial consultation. At the end of that appointment they had me schedule my one year follow up appointment. Something was presented as part of the procedure. I scheduled it. Fast forward a year and couple days before the appointment they call me and tell me they have to reschedule and they push it out two months. Now it has come time for my one year and two months follow up appointment and they are telling me that it will be an additional $200. My suggestion to anybody looking at having lasik done; don't go here. Don't go to any Mann Eye location. They're all run out of their Houston office and they do not have their act together. read more

I had my LASIK surgery two weeks ago with Dr. Mann. I had the best experience ever. All of the staff was amazing. From the moment I walked in for my pre surgery consultation the staff was amazing. The day of the surgery my amazing eye doctor, Dr. Manesh Patel at Today's Vision, was there to watch the whole procedure. I had 20/20 vision as soon as the procedure ended. The procedure itself was so easy and smooth thanks to all of the staff. I am recommending this procedure at this facility to everyone I know. The day after my surgery I was doing great. In December 2019 I met with Dr. Barker because although I did not wear glasses, my night vision was hindered by all the bright lights. My vision was tested along with a special light test. Based on the testing it was recommended that I have lens replacement surgery and I chose the Active Life lens plus laser and ORA surgery in both eyes. I was told the lenses and laser surgery would correct the astigmatism I had in each eye. In late May 2020 I met again with Dr. Barker and decided to move forward with the lens replacement, this time the lens was the ERP, along with the laser and ORA procedures for both eyes. The surgeries took place in June 2020. Post-surgery, at one of my follow up appointments with Dr. Barker, I mentioned that on a recent rainy and gray morning, I noticed all the car headlights had multiple rings around them and distracted me. He said, "oh, that will get better". Since it was summer and also during the pandemic, I had little opportunity to drive after dark. Once fall came and the time changed, I was driving more after dark and was hampered severely by the rings around all the lights that seemed to blend together, which made it difficult for me to judge depth and feel safe driving. Furthermore, my right eye was not seeing well at a distance, I could not read the signs that my left eye could read. This was never the case before surgery. I went back to Dr. Barker in November to tell him I did not feel safe driving at night because of the splay of lights in the vision of both eyes and additionally, I was not seeing distance well out of my right eye. Also, I was noting a floater or something flashing on the right side of my right eye. I was told there was scarring on my right eye and that YAG surgery was needed which would help with the distance and floater issues. He also told me that a "side effect" of having the multi-focal lens, was the rings around the lights I was experiencing, and just a trade-off to have the good close-up vision. This was news to me. I had the YAG surgery on my right eye on December 1. The YAG surgery did not help my distance vision nor the light or floater issues and furthermore, gave my eye a constant dull ache. I went to see another eye doctor and learned I still have an astigmatism in my right eye, a fact I am certain Dr. Barker knew although never disclosed. I also learned that because of the YAG surgery, there is no way to replace the lens in my right eye because the YAG surgery destroys the membrane on which a lens can be placed. I am now told I need additional laser surgery on my right eye which will cost at least $3000.00. In the fall of 2020 I sent a letter to Dr. Barker and Mann Eye with this same detail. To Dr. Barker's credit he reached out to me by phone and did some follow up exams confirming what I had learned from my second opinion. He said unfortunately I was in that "nth" percent when procedures did not work like expected! Needless to say I am dumbfounded by and extremely frustrated by the fact that I was misled by and had negligent care from Dr. Barker and Mann Eye Institute. My big issue was how bright lights effected me at night, Dr. Barker knew the lenses he recommended and put in my eyes would cause the halos yet he did not make sure I understood the tradeoff. I am 65 years old - I have been to see Dr. Barker more in the last year and a half than the sum of my visits to other eye doctors in my lifetime. I have spent over $15,000 and now have poorer eyesight than I had prior to coming to Mann Eye Institute along with a lack of security in my driving after dark. Make sure you ask the questions regarding the down sides of lens replacement before agreeing to the procedure. read more

Sure you can pay less elsewhere which is great because insurance companies aren't involved, but it's hard to beat the quality of care that Mann provides. My eyes, my poor eyesight is no longer an issue! I can see clearly 1 day after my LASIK surgery and I am sooo happy! I consulted 3 places in Austin, all of them telling me I am a great candidate and prices all within the same range give or take ~$100-$200 but ultimately chose Mann Eye because I felt like the people working there as well as the facilities were much cooler and neater for the same price point! Courtney at the arboretum office quoted me$2500 each eye + $195 diagnostic fee with 5% off from my vision insurance was amazingly awesome with $1000 in house discount. Total was $3985 put on my credit card for rewards points to pay off instantly but if you don't have the full amount to pay, they certainly can help with financing through Care Credit. I went to the Arboretum location for my initial consults but for the pre-op, surgery and post-op visits, they were all at the South Central location. (FYI: they're serious about not parking anywhere in the garage with "reserved" signs posted in the parking spots there so make sure to look carefully!) I was at a -7 in both my left and right eye with -2.50/-1.75 astigmatism and 1 day after I can see pretty amazingly with my right eye but my left eye still being a bit fuzzy. One concern I had initially that went away was I never got to talk to Dr. Mann before the surgery but on the day of he was around and introducing himself to everyone before the surgery was to be done. They have many other doctors around to facilitate and check in on their patients progress but Dr. Mike Mann or Dr. Paul Mann with be your final surgical Doctor. Dr. Paul Mann operated on me and he let me know as a fellow Houstonian that him and his father switch off doing surgeries in Austin and Houston every other week to do them! Surgeries are done Thursday's and Friday's so you can rest easy through the weekend and they do 1 day post op check up on you Saturday morning when you do surgeries on Friday. I picked Friday afternoon so I could still work the morning of my surgery day. My husband watches me get my procedure done and then drove me home so I could take a nap before my anesthesia in my eyes wore off. During the surgery I was very worried but they provide you with Valium and ibuprofen 800mg so you'll be fine during the surgery. The first machine they move you under is the laser that makes the incision for your cornea, right then left for me. My left eye I struggled with them inserting the suction so my eyeball wouldn't move and thus caused some minor redding to occur as my blood vessels there bruised. Then to the other laser to correct my vision and astigmatism and each eye was 24 seconds, I could smell something burning while the second laser did its work but I read about this with others so I was prepared. In the background during all this is happening, I heard the medical assistants reading numbers aloud and Dr. Mann also talking reading the metrics. After my left eye finished everyone was awesome and congratulated me on my successful operation!!! Laying down in the room was cold so I was glad that I came in long sleeves, but they provided me with a cute pink fuzzy stuffed elephant, Jenny, to hold onto and a thick blanket to cover me as well as a cushion under my knees so my legs wouldn't be tired. They are seriously thoughtful and I appreciated every little thing. Kristin at the South Central location checked me in and beamed with smiles and regaled me with her own personal journey of going under which definitely helped me on the day of surgery feeling nervous. I know folks are wary of Mann eye being a machine and churning in and out people going in surgery and out those day but honestly you are taken care of and each patient is seen and given the amount of time necessary and they don't rush you! No backlog so all was great! Handing me back my glasses and my goodie bag of sunglasses to wear and all my eye drops and instructions, everything was good to go! As someone with a heavy prescription I was very worried and afraid something would go wrong but everything I had concerns about were alleviated easily and I am so happy I made this choice. I will continue to update as I continue on with my next 1 week post-op visit and so on as they do them frequently to ensure you are healing as expected. Oh, and enhancements and fixes will be covered up to 2 years from your surgery date so long as you make all your check in appointments which is really neat! Aside from some starbursts and light sensitivity at the moment 1 day after surgery, I am beaming with joy!! It's only going to get better from here on out and I'm so stoked!!!! Ps. I had blade-free Lasik in November of 2007 at Mann Eye Institute. My experience at the office was nothing but positive, with a friendly, informative staff. Dr. Mann had been my grandmother's eye doctor for something like 30 years, and he has a good reputation for a reason. Within about a week or two, my vision was at 20/15. Why am I giving it only 2 stars? Well, 6 years and around $3000 later, I'm back needing glasses. After a bad experience at another clinic almost shut me off of LASIK, I have to say that I love this place. My LASIK surgery was one of the best things I've ever done for myself, and it was also a great experience thanks to Dr. Mann and his staff. First, I thought I'd never have the guts for LASIK because I pass out every time I need to have blood drawn. Actually, sometimes I pass out while the nurse is prepping me to have blood drawn, even before a needle touches me! It's a very embarrassing situation that I've had to live with my entire life so to actually volunteer to have a procedure done to me was a big deal. So how did I survive LASIK and why am I so happy? The staff: Wow, the staff here is amazing. From the moment you schedule your first appointment, to all the follow up appointments you have, everyone here is consistently giving customers their 100% best. They're kind, understanding, cheerful, and caring. They're also clearly very happy to be working here which gives the place a good vibe the moment you step inside the office. I also met Dr. Mann the day of my procedure and he is probably one of the coolest doctors around. (Good vibes do spread down from the top). Decor: The waiting room has a lot of good light and is pretty spacious, which is good since a ton of patients come through here. It's not uber fancy but it's clean and well-kept, and there's plenty of magazines and water, and even snacks sometimes. You won't be sitting long though, they're on schedule here. Procedure: First, I love how hygienic they are here. Regardless if it's your first appointment or your 4th, they always consistently wipe down any surfaces your face will touch with an alcohol pad. They also made me feel comfortable during each appointment, patiently answered any questions and even educated me on my eyes, so I was not concerned about the LASIK procedure during any of the initial appointments. The day of the procedure I started to feel a little nervous (the same feelings I get when I'm about to give blood which also includes dizziness, shortness of breath etc..) they gave me a valium, and it worked like a charm. I relaxed immediately. There's also multiple staff members and doctors, as well as Dr. Mann, which all stand around you while your having it done (you're not alone in a dark room like in the scary movies) and hearing them talk to each other was the last touch I needed to put me at ease. The procedure was painless and quick, actually the procedure was so quick that I didn't even have time to process that I just had LASIK surgery. The surgery was over and I thought there was more to do. lol (The only thing I felt was a slight pressure on my eyes which lasted 2 seconds per eye, so if you close your eyes and touch them with your finger, that's what it feels like). After that I went home and slept for the rest of the day. One of the best sleeps ever too. I woke up, drank some water and went back to sleep without testing my vision. But the next morning, wow, it was like night and day. I had perfect vision, what a surreal experience. I did need to use a lot of drops during the first week of recovery but it's been a while now and my eyes are perfect. It's like I was born with perfect eyes just like everyone else who has perfect eyes. To this day I have 20/15 vision and the best part is that I no longer have to waste time and money buying contacts, solutions, waiting in line etc.. plus putting contacts on, taking them off, having red, burning eyes, or dealing with glasses, cleaning them, fixing them etc.. such a hassle. My life is SO much better now, that LASIK was more than worth every penny. Thanks to Dr. Mann I had a LASIK procedure at a much more affordable cost than other centers, and returning for follow up appointments was always nice because the staff is so gracious. Overall: This was a wonderful experience and one of the best things I've ever done for myself. ** Note: I had a bad experience at Dr. Dell's laser center and I ended up not having my procedure there because the staff was SO rude and careless. Not to mention I had to ask them to wipe the surfaces of the machines which were filthy and they didn't even have any alcohol pads! I used a kleenex from my purse and the surface was covered in make-up and someone else's skin oils. Gross! They are also a lot more expensive too, so I said goodbye. (I almost quit having LASIK done at all until fellow yelp reviewers as well as a real life friend recommended Dr. Mann with raving results, I'm very grateful for having taken their advice to give Dr. Mann a try.) read more

Im a month post-op from my lasik procedure. All is going well. I have 20/20 vision as if yesterday and everything seems fairly crisp at this point. The entire staff seems nice. The facility is clean. Initially it was kind of difficult to locate the actual building. The price was higher than most I have heard. Dr Barker was extremely nice, and he did my procedure. The first day I met him was the day of the procedure though, and I havent seen him since! Every time I have been in for a follow up I see a different doctor. The front desk lady, kristen is seriously the sweetest person ever and is always helpful and keeps everyone posted on any delays. I have been in multiple times and only once were they running behind. The day of the procedure went smoothly. I arrived at the office with my designated driver. All the paperwork was signed and the payment remitted. I talked to dr barker and he explained everything and then offered to pray with us, which was a nice touch in my opinion. I received two valium and an ibuprofen. I was very relaxed. Almost too relaxed - I was laughing when the procedure started and was scared my eyes wouldn't be able to hold still. They then clamped this device to my eye - which literally felt like a toilet plunger on my eyeball. It was a very firm pressure, not painful though. I lost track of time, but the entire procedure took less than like 4 min according to my friend. When i stood up for the first time I literally could see but everything felt as though I was looking thru tears or opened my eyes underwater. The dr checked my eyes and placed the shields on and we left. I pretty much slept for the next three and a half hours and only woke up when I felt tears rolling down my face. I took off my shields and was amazed I could see. I started using my drops and everything was fine. I only felt a minor stinging sensation but I would not describe it as pain. I worked on my laptop without any issues. The Dr called to check on me in the afternoon. Once night set in - that was a different story. I saw halos around the lights and every single light or light reflecting device was glowing like crazy. I immediately felt buyers remorse. At my first follow up I mentioned it and they said it would improve with time, and true to their word, it did improve and today I feel like my vision in regard to the lights is perfectly normal - mild halos if any. I would give Mann Eye 5 stars. I still have my eyes and my vision. I wil At my follow-up today (8/22) my vision is now 20/15 in both eyes! Super exciting! And my eyes still feel great. read more

My husband and I went for the free consultation for LASIK and scheduled him for the procedure. Julie was extremely helpful and helped with some rescheduling issues and a lost prescription all via email. The day of the procedure, we arrived at 3 o'clock for his appointment. We waited until 4:10 until a young man gathered everyone together to go over the drops and post-surgical instructions. While they were going over everything, my husband was called to the back, but wasn't able to go when called because of this. I felt this was a very poor use of time and after waiting for so long, they should have been done going over post-op care long before. Once in the back, the technician came in and cleaned his eyes with a gauze with no gloves on and she left the room without washing her hands. I saw several employees in the back operatory hallways walking around with Starbucks and in a medical facility that needs to be kept in the break room. I got to stand outside and watch the surgery on a tv monitor. It was quick and even though my husband was not very happy immediately after, his memory of the procedure is fading quickly and he's ecstatic that his vision is basically perfect three days later. He did complain that he didn't meet the doctor until the day of the surgery and he felt as though he was "scolded" a bit during the procedure. Upon completion of the treatment, he was shuffled right out the door, no time to decompress and no one to ask questions to on the way out. This is a kind of "get-in-get-out" place that seems to have a huge disconnect between the front and back offices. I think they still deserve four stars, but for my surgery I will be looking for a smaller, more compassionate office. read more

Rated as one of the top Laser Surgery Centers in the country and the top in Texas (based on my research) I wasn't about to leave my vision in the hands of an amateur. The Drs here were FABULOUS. They were knowledgeable & friendly. There are many other medical institutions that could learn a thing or two about customer service from Mann Eye's example. The "dad" is who did my eye surgery, I was fine up until I laid down on the table for surgery, I mentioned I was a little nervous and he took a few extra minutes with me to talk me through the surgery, explained the procedure and really comforted me. The surgery was very quick. I was reading license plates on the way home...I left my glasses there and never looked back. Where do I even begin? I've had horrible vision my whole life, getting my first pair of glasses at 9yrs old. I spent the next 20yrs spending thousands of dollars on contacts and glasses, appointments and screenings. I had heard that lasik was amazing, it would change my life, best decision ever, we've all heard the speech but when I finally made the decision myself to correct my vision it was more than I imagined it would be! The team here is WONDERFUL!! They all worked so hard on making sure I was comfortable, happy, and confident every time I walked in to the office. BRI and LINDY at the front desk were always so kind and welcoming. They brightened my day and would make me laugh before I even sat in the waiting room! I felt like I was seeing old friends every time I came in. The wait was never long. They'd call my name within just a few minutes of sitting down and then Dr. Barker (my surgeon) would ask me about my day, my life, my eyes of course but I felt like I was being welcomed into a home, not just another eye doctors' office. The entire process from beginning to end was amazing. I couldn't be happier to be a part of the Mann Eye family and with beyond perfect eyes (literally, I now have 20/15 vision). I had LASIK done at Mann Eye last Friday (March 13th) by Dr. Barker. Like many others who have posted, I researched 3 different spots in Austin and eventually settled on Mann Eye. I did this for a number of reasons including the facilities (top notch technology and clean office space), friendliness of the staff and ultimately the cost. I worked closely with Courtney and from the start literally ever person from her to the last person who said bye to me day of the surgery was extremely nice and comforting. Dr. Barker was great and made me feel comfortable through out the whole process. He called me about 6 hours after the procedure to check in. I feel blessed that through almost all my recovery I never had any real discomfort to complain about. It really is insane how quickly the procedure is done too. I was pretty nervous going into it but in hindsight (which is 20/20 like my new vision HA- ok sorry bad joke) there was nothing really to worry about it. As of this review it has only been a little over a week so I will try and write an update in a few months or even a year to tell everyone how I am doing. I would recommend Mann Eye and the whole team to anyone considering LASIK in the Austin area but ultimately they are your eyes and you should do plenty of research and make sure you feel 100% comfortable with the location you chose. For me that ended up being Mann Eye. Also my wife who is a dentist in town had a patient who went to the original Mann Eye in Houston and 20 years later still had a good relationship with his doctor and raves about how great they were then and how they still carry their great customer service through as he gets ready for his refinement. read more

I just got Lasik done yesterday. Some people complain about the in and out type of business ... i wish i had that type of experience. I had to stay there for 3.5 hours on the day of surgery. I was expecting it to be a bit faster, but I understand since it was on a Friday and there were a lot of people getting Lasik done that day. ymmv. Besides that, the rest of the experience was 100% positive. Dr. Cessac was the one checking my eyes the day before surgery. I was free to ask questions, i didn't get that rushed feeling some other mentioned in their reviews. She walked me through everything. Day of surgery, Dr. Mann checked out my eyes and did the surgery which takes like 5 minutes... it's the waiting around and presurgery tests that takes the rest of the 3+ hours. No pain, and everything went smooth. When i got home, took a nap as suggested and woke up with constant flow of tears. This lasted for maybe a half hour. Everything from then on was smooth sailing. Vision was probably at 90% on left eye and 70% on right eye by the end of the day Post op was today and everything checked out, Dr. Cessac explained to me why my right eye wasn't seeing as clear (it was due to more swelling on that eye vs the left). Vision is getting better by the hour. I fully expect to see perfectly in the next week. All in all, i would highly recommend this location to anyone looking for Lasik. Kristin, Roland, and all the other techs and doctors are amazing. The level of customer service was absolutely outstanding. If i go blind suddenly in the next couple years, ill be sure to revise my review using a brail keyboard. **update** it took a couple months for me to see 20/20 but mann eye checked up on me every month. absolutely worth your time and money. read more

I'd initially set up an appointment because I needed a vision exam and I wanted to check on LASIK. The receptionist told me happily that they could take care of both and scheduled me for a Friday apt. When arriving on Friday the receptionist said they only did Lasik exams on Fridays and I'd have to schedule another apt for an eye exam M-Th. This is extremely inconvenient for me. Friday's are my only days that I can schedule appointments and if I would have known this, I would have went else where. So from the very beginning, I already feel like I'm wasting time and I was lied to. The Lasik exam was fine. The tech who gave me most of the exam wasn't very friendly, seemed rushed. The Dr. took maybe 5 mins to examine me and seemed very nice. I've had other quotes and am shopping around but I've gotten prices as low as $2,000 for the exam. $ 4,600 is crazy and I didn't appreciate the "if you buy with in 30 days, we'll stay at this low rate, other wise much more expensive" come on? Who falls for this tactic? I'm offended by this tactic and I didn't like that my insurance specifically says that I get a reduced rate by a min of 5% off of the promotional rate. Your offer was supposedly a promotional rate and Roland said that they didn't honor it. Also a thing to note. They didn't give me heads up as to what or how the dilation drops would change my vision temporarily (I've never had them) until after the drops were already in my eyes. They sent me on my marry way after the apt and had I not been going straight home and needed to use my phone for gps, I would have been very bad off on figuring out how to get directions for myself. Mann Eye completely changed my life. I went from being practically blind to better than 20/20 vision in a matter of a week. The doctors are extremely pleasant and very knowledgeable. Even the staff at Mann Eye are first rate, very personable and friendly. The actual lasik procedure was completely painless and only took a matter of minutes. This place really does care about their patients, even after 6 months they still schedule post check ups to see the progress of my vision. The facilities are very clean and comfortable as well. I was hesitant to use a Groupon, which Mann Eye offered, on my own eyeballs but I really ended up saving a lot of money in the end. I had Lasik here 8 years ago and was extremely happy with the process and the results. I still have 20/20 vision 8 years later. I continue to go back yearly for General exams. They are punctual, which means a lot, everyone's time if valuable. My husband just had Lasik surgery done yesterday and after the follow up appointment today, he now has 20/10 vision! I'd say that is incredible. My husband went outside last night and cried because he could see everything clearly. He spent 20+ years behind glasses and contacts, and Mann Eye has made his dream a reality. The doctors are professional and the staff is friendly. All in all, it was a great job with an even greater outcome. The ONLY reason I am not giving this 5 stars is due to the staff failing to notify us when his surgery began so we could go back and experience this special time with him. Jara, one of the assistants, stated she would come get us before the surgery and it never happened. We had the camera ready and front desk knew this as well. I felt like that robbed his family and myself of this life-changing moment, especially his parents who have been waiting years to be able to afford this for him. She did apologize today at the follow up appointment but it doesn't take back missing out on that experience with him. My wife had cataract surgery here. The doctor was great ! The rest of the experience was horrible. We should have known our out of pocket expenses up front. Mann Eye utilizes SurgiCare of Austin to perform the surgery and there is a huge disconnect. We did not know how much we were paying SurgiCare until the day of ! We thought we just paid Mann Eye and they paid SurgiCare, or if there was any other incidentals, we would find that out. We end up paying $3k to SurgiCare, and just under $2.5k to Mann Eye ! Our insurance calculates and reports to us what amount we owe out of pocket, it shows we were over charged and they contacted both SurgiCare and Mann Eye for refunds. Great. We never heard anything from either company, so I had to contact them. They have no record of owing any refund!? We also get a bill for over $600 more from SurgiCare ! I call and they give a long winded answer about amounts not submitted to insurance since they knew it wouldn't be covered, so we still owed more than the insurance company states we need to pay out of pocket... :o In any case, I think a professional operation lets you know what your costs are up front. Mann Eye should know the fees from SurgiCare and if they mark those up, fine. But the bottom line is we should be given the total amount due, pay one company, in this case Mann Eye. Mann Eye can pay SurgiCare. Done. Be wary and make 100% sure you know what you are getting into and there is no hidden fees ! These facilities should submit the total to insurance and let the insurance company come back with what they will and will not cover. Then, the patient knows exactly the amount they are to pay out of pocket ! June 2014 - Update Ok, so it seems most of the confusion was on SurgiCare's part. I hate the annoyance and discomfort of contacts and glasses, so decided I would investigate Lasix. I heard the advertising campaigns on the radio and thought I would try it. Superb customer service. I felt very safe and well prepared. They fixed my vision with Lasix to PERFECT in less than 11 min. No pain! And I can even drive the next day!!! Fabulous staff and physicians. Highly recommend. There seems to be a rumor amongst the community that you have to wait a year after your first evaluation when getting Lasix, but that's not true. I went in for my first evaluation on a Monday and had my procedure that week. High grade and up-to-date machines. Financing options allow 18 months no interest. Sweet deals! I can't believe I didn't do this sooner. It is so wonderful to have done something nice for myself. Now, I can actually appreciate the high definition television on my HDTV, and I won't have to sit in the front row at Broadway shows or movie theaters. Thank you!!! read more

Having worn glasses and contacts most of my life I finally made the choice to go for Lasik surgery. Who to trust my eyes with was a difficult one. You see Lasik for cheap. You have do some research and talk to others that have gone through it. Considerations are what type of equipment is being used and the qualifications of the doctors. I went with Mann Eye Institute and I am a very happy I did! When I scheduled my complimentary consultation on the phone Victor was more than informed on the procedures and answered all my questions. When I arrived for the first time I was met by David and he greeted me by name even though I had never been there. Kevin the counselor sat down with me and explained the screening process, what to expect during the surgery and financial options. What I really appreciated is the fact they are honest if you are not a candidate for the surgery and what your other options may be. In addition, no long wait time in the lobby. You are seen at your appointment time with great efficiency. My surgery was a little more complicated then most and both eyes could not be done in the same day as planned. I was disappointed but was rescheduled to come back the following week to finish up. They promised it would be done and they delivered! Apparently I have a small left eye that posed a challenge. Dr Mike Mann did not give up and his support staff was wonderful. At one point someone came in to hold my hand and boy did I squeeze (not from pain but anxiety)! After several attempts Dr Mann was able to create the flap and then on to the laser. My right eye was easier and it took less than 5 minutes. I can't even describe the elation of seeing out of both eyes now with no assistance. Dr Cessac is also a pleasure to have as the pre and follow up doctor. She's a little bundle of energy and so positive! Thank you to the Mann doctors and their wonderful staff! I would recommend them to anyone considering Lasik. read more

I really think there should be more than five stars for an organization that gives you perfect eye sight. I was very scared to get lasik, and I'm now so glad i did it. Dr barker was amazing and so were all the staff there who answered my innane questions and comforted me throughout everything. Especially Kristen at the front desk. They have the nicest people and aren't pushy and the quality of their work is superb. If you're on the fence just do it, go in for a consultation and you'll see what i mean! My recovery time was literally a 3 hour nap after surgery. My eyes were dry for a few days but zero discomfort and i was sans glasses driving to my follow up the next morning. read more
