I had two discount coupons. One for downloading the Ace app,…read morea second one for my birthday. When I tried to redeem them while buying supplies the manager refused to honor either of them. No explanation other than the products I was purchasing were already discounted $1. The coupons had a discount value of $15 dollars. I explained to him through the cashier, as he would not come to the front of the store to talk to me to resolve this, that I called the night before seeking clarity on the restrictions of the coupons before driving to the store. I was told on that phone call they were straight dollars off coupons, any purchase, no restrictions. My purchases would have exceeded the value of both coupons. I put the products back on the shelf and left. Two weeks earlier I called to check to see if they had a product in stock. The employee was very reluctant to check the inventory and confirm if you had it in stock. I purchased products from this hardware store for years. It always had higher prices but good service, what happened to it? News Flash, for the same products, stores like Lowes and Walmart are 20-25% cheaper and the customer service is superior. These two incidents' let me know your employees really don't care about getting my repeat business. Your Choice.

Good gravy people! Some of you are acting like you want to NOT have anyone to EVER help you! If that is the case...GO TO LOWES! They will be happy to NOT give you any assistance, and they hire plenty of people who have no earthly idea how to do anything other than play on their phones. E&T Hardware is a gem! Elgin is lucky to have a great place where we can go get what we need quickly and have people there who know what they are talking about. And so, some of the prices, not all, but some are a little more than the big box stores. The way I look at it is, my time is worth more than saving a few bucks here or there. I value my time and will continue to give E&T first shot at just about everything I need and only go to Lowes or HD when either E&T does not have what I need or the price is such that I have no other choice.

However, I was very disappointed this past Saturday when I pulled up into the parking lot at 4:36 PM pulled on the door handle and it was locked .Peered through the tinted glass door , and a male individual signaled to me that they were closed. I immediately thought I must've read their hours wrong for a Saturday. As it turned out, I hadn't read them wrong. Their hours said they would be open until 5 PM. Boy I felt like I had been punched in the gut. It wouldn't have been so bad, but I made a special trip from out of town. I really felt unappreciated as a customer. Maybe the owner needs to realize that customer service is more than just assisting people inside the store, but also entails giving reliable information to their customers.
