I've been consistently coming here for 20+ years and not once in those 20+ years have they messed up my order, served raw food that made me sick, or in any other way disappointed. Will this sushi change your life? No. Is this sushi delicious, decently priced, well-made, FAST (the other day they made my takeout order in 6 minutes...WHAT?!), and tasty...yes. I don't think anyone can really ask for more. Likewise I've ordered fried rice, lo mein, etc. etc.; and it's all consistently good. Few places in the area offer an agedashi tofu appetizer, but they do and it's always good. If Mannen ever closes they will ruin me emotionally; few relationships last this long. read more

We had no issue getting seated without a reservation but you may want to call ahead to be sure. I regret that I took so long to update my review! Mannen has been back to a full 5 star spot for me for awhile now. I order from them frequently and love their sushi as well as many of the hot dishes I've tried. The first time I tried this restaurant, I was very unimpressed with the size of the quantity given and the high prices. We had a $200 meal that left us still hungry. SO, I figured I would try again but instead for take out. Honestly, extremely disappointed. The Uni sushi & eel sushi was Polly pocket bite-size. Im a small person & I was able to take one tiny bite of the entire thing and it was finished. NOT worth it. The volcano roll is supposed to be a completely raw roll on the inside with tobiko and spicy mayo sprinkled on top. Instead, I got a warm roll with mushy fish and what I'm assuming is mushy tempura & spicy mayo with Sriracha squirted on top of. Topping on the cake, the softshell crab roll very smelly, full of cucumber and missing the avocado & eel sauce. I had to throw my $57 meal away. I try to order local to support but this restaurant is 100% taking advantage of the fact that it's 1 of 2 local sushi restaurants in the area. Shame on this restaurant- DO BETTER! read more

We have been to this hibachi many times and have always had great service. However this time was the exception. We arrived on time at 7 pm Friday. There were 5 adults in our party. Our chef just went through the motions I could have eaten anywhere and had more attention for a birthday None of the usual fanfare no saki no hype nothing. Hibachi is a bit nostalgic as my parents took me as a kid and I now enjoy bringing my daughter. Like me, she enjoys the "show" and many facets of the meal. I will say that I've tried a handful of different hibachi options in Fairfield county and this one is slightly one-flavored... meaning that even though I got a couple of proteins and the fried rice, everything kind of tasted the same. It's good. Good enough. Nothing exciting or creative -- this is Ridgefield, Connecticut after all, and choice of sushi restaurants is very limited. There are two sushi places in town: one with pretty good food at a great price but you'd never want to eat inside, the other (Mannen) with nice ambiance, but the sushi is on the skimpy side, and portions are small. So, it is what it is. If you're hankering for sushi and you happen to be in Ridgefield, this is one of your choices. Nothing spectacular, nothing to write home about, but enough to satisfy. Great experience! We were hesitant to make reservations because the reviews were so varying but I am happy to say that everyone in the party enjoyed the food and the hibachi experience. The filet mignon was our favorite but the scallops, shrimp and chicken were all great! All of the hibachi meals come with vegetables, noodles and two pieces of shrimp. Nothing spectacular sushi was fresh and the hot food we ordered (general tso chicken, bang bang shrimp, and hibachi chicken) was nothing to write home about. We've enjoyed Mannen several times over the years, but this past Friday 3/29 was a flat-out mess - specifically the wait staff's attitudes. (The hibachi chef was great, however.) 1- Called at 5:00 to make a 7:15 hibachi reservation, 3 people. Was told they only had 7:45 available. "It's only 30 minutes later, can't you wait?" The attitude was impatient and off-putting. 2- Arrived at 7:40 and was told we wouldn't be seated until 8:00. I reminded the server of our phone call, which she claimed I misunderstood. Only after we turned to leave did she agree to seat us. 3- After placing our order, we were served miso soup that was room temperature at best. Next course was salad. Server pushed a tray full of salad bowls at us and told us, "Here, take one." Okay...? We were seated at a corner so she had easy access to set the bowls down herself, but her main goal seemed to be speed, not service. 4- The hibachi chef was great, but as I watched him cook, I realized that the floor behind him was dirty - food on the ground but even worse, a pile of used linens (towels?) stacked up in the corner. 5- When the check came, we realized we'd been charged $453.30 - the entire table of nine! Hard to figure out how they determined that we knew the other six people, since we hadn't spoken to them (except to applaud their zucchini-catching skills). Gyoza was very good and my husband really liked the hot & sour soup... honestly the wings were pretty boring. Plain fried wings with duck sauce for dipping. I've been here many times - a couple for hibachi, and a bunch for dine in and takeout sushi. Every experience has been fantastic! The service is great, and everyone is as nice and helpful as they can be. The food is also exactly what you'd expect it to be - solid hibachi, solid mid-priced sushi. Also, they've been a saving grace for takeout! Everything is so well packaged, and pickup is always super smooth. I've been coming to this place since I was 9. I absolutely love this place for their sushi and miso soup. The miso soup is the best I've ever had. There japanese food is definitely better than the Chinese so if your looking for a Chinese restaurant this is a good option but it's not the best. I got the Asian pork belly buns today and they were amazing I also got the general tso's chicken which was really good. They have great service but the waiting time for your food is a little long because their making it fresh. The atmosphere of the restaurant is great it's usually very quiet and empty but when there is a lot of people it tends to get loud. read more

Often the sign of a wonderful, creative, Japanese sushi bar, is what you get when you order "omakase" chef's choice. One expects the very best sushi creations when ordering, and paying, for what is usually a delight. Last night, at Mannen's, the main variable between ordering a regular sushi and/or shamine plate, was that the chef increased the quantity of pieces, rather then the quality and imagination one expects from ordering omakase A true disappointment. Well what can I say I knew going into this it would be poor quality (it is Ridgefield after all) - but I did not know that the food wasn't even fit to feed barn animals. Add another one too the list, no one cares about quality. Make sure when you order "general tso chicken", that you specify you want white meat and not quote "the byproducts of what is left in the pan and then ground" - waitress "You must specify you want white meat" maybe it would be a good idea to write that somewhere on the menu?? I didn't know people enjoyed eating chicken feet and gizzard ground up. How can you legally serve that. I wouldn't feed that to a squirrel. This place is always so inconsistent for takeout. I don't know if they just rush through cooking the food or what, but it's horrible. I got sesame chicken and it was basically soggy chicken tenders that were flourescent for some reason. It actually made me ill. The salmon was melt in ur mouth fresh. I like to think I've had a decent amount of fresh salmon but tonight the bar was reset at where I should expect it every time. Mannen has hosted many of our birthday parties for our kids over the years. It was always our "go to" for a fun party. The last few times, the service has been horrible. There aren't enough waiters/waitresses. They are slow. They are unorganized. They seem lost in the hibachi room, running frantically from table to table. It's a complete joke. The hibachi chefs are great and always make us laugh. The kids love it. But the complete and utter chaos before the cooking "show" is unacceptable.
