Extraordinary! I can't believe that the best Japanese restaurant I've been to in the last 10 years is in this odd location in New Fairfield. I honestly feel that this is Nobu competition, maybe better. You're gonna pay more but it's worth it. We ordered all of the signature rolls. Each was unique but the Sandwich, topped with crab, was insane. We ordered several single sushi items. The tuna melted in your mouth, orgasmic! The restaurant is dimly lit and quite cozy. I was not expecting to be impressed but I was wrong. Tucked away in New Fairfield is this super fresh and super authentic Japanese sushi restaurant. While they have fancy rolls for people who are into that... I always just get sashimi or sushi. Don't miss the yellowtail, madai and botan ebi. Just delicious! This time around, we chose to dine at one of the three pleasant, umbrella-shaded tables on the patio, though it was a very warm evening, since our pup had us in tow. Our server, who happened to be a former vet tech, ably managed all guests, including canine ones. Despite the heat, Chef Edwin graciously came out to say hello, as did our lovely server from our previous visit. We so appreciated their deep sense of hospitality. We all ordered "omakase" set meals this time (three ten-piece meals and one five-piece meal). All of the neta were again excellent -- by far the best we've found in the area -- and sweet, silky, buttery, or firm as appropriate for the cut of fish. The omakase / set meals included an interesting and varied array of nigiri. [Most memorable to me: botan ebi, hotate, uni (if I had to guess, I'd guess from Maine?), ika topped with uni, hirame, toro, akami zuke, madai.] Chef Edwin (who, it seems, is always present... I truly hope he gets a few days off a week to spend with family) was an incredibly generous host. He threw in so many extras (extra pieces of nigiri, edamame, and gorgeously deep fried botan ebi heads) that I felt both blessed and embarrassed by his largess. I don't think these extras influenced my review, but do have to admit that we like this taisho a lot as a human, hopefully independently of all else. Just a personal note: Our picky eaters are are extremely averse to "fishiness" and sensitive to neta that is less than pristine. (At most "everyday" sushi restaurants, they stick to maki for this reason.) On our return visit to Omakase, however, both kiddos insisted on ordering nigiri -- quite a ringing endorsement if you ask me! read more

Super fresh, quality sushi! What a win for New Fairfield. The chef definitely knows what he's doing. The decor is the same as the cafe that was there previously, with a few oriental touches. 5-stars with a few caveats. To set expectations, this wouldn't be the same score in NYC or even New Haven. But between Danbury, CT and Woodstock, NY, this is the best sashimi I have had. The head chef has serious knife skills. The cuts were excellent. The fact the Botan Ebi (sweet shrimp) heads were delivered fried instead of discarded was a nice touch. If you're looking for flashy rolls this is not the place. Same if you want a wide sake selection. The sashimi and, thus the sushi, is the standout. The sashimi is better than Yasuda Kingston, Tokyo Tavern, Yokohama Danbury, Osaka Rhinebeck, or Medo Woodsock. However, unlike those other staples, Omakase is still figuring it out thematically. I hope they do. Worth the drive. read more

Unfortunate 1 star. We had 2 rolls & 2 Omakase orders, the fish was not good. I don't know if it was old or just awful quality? They had flounder on their omakase, and weird combinations to try and mask the off flavor of the fish. I do not recommend. We personally could not eat more than 1 roll and 2 pieces from the omakase. Went back again. Even better. I had the Tri Light as well as the Botan Ebi! It was fantastic. I'm a New York guy. This place is legit. A real find for the area. How lucky I feel that Omakase opened in my neighborhood! My friend and I ordered the chefs choice after a first course of delicious edamame. All of our fish was beautifully fresh and gorgeous to look at. We wanted more because it was so good. We ordered perfectly fried shrimp tempura and lovely gyoza. And then we asked for another omakase platter. I said the same as what we had would be fine, but that if the chef wanted to mix it up a little that would be great. Well. He outdid himself with more beautiful fresh ingredients and stunning presentation. I hope my photos (note the fresh mochi for dessert) do this place justice. What a find! I love sushi, however, sometimes it does not like me. It needs to be super fresh, which as we know, is not always the case with many sushi restaurants. Omakase is wonderful; Edwin, the owner/chef, is so inviting, along with his staff. I sat at the sushi bar and ordered the Omakase. To say it was good is an understatement. It was scrumptious. I had sea bream for the first time, Edwin topped each piece with something small and delectable. Honestly, some of the most tender sushi I have ever eaten. Toro sushi was a major treat. I have reviewed this restaurant previously, possibly on a different site, but wanted to update my review. Since my first visit to Omakase, I have become a "regular". The food is always fresh, and the presentation first rate. Despite being a small and relatively new restaurant, the variety of offerings are greater, and more interesting, than one would expect. Edwin often has a surprise to share which is not on the menu. The quality of the food goes without saying. It is better than anything else locally, and rivals many of NYC's high end Japanese restaurants. What distinguishes Omakase from so many other restaurants is the welcoming staff and the attention to detail. One is made to feel like a guest in Edwin and Sin's home. George, Ashley, Nina, Jen, Ruby, and others whose names I am embarrassed to say I have yet to learn, are welcoming, knowledgable, and professional. The food is a great value considering the quality. The service is second to none. If you want a great meal in an attractive, comfortable environment, run by people who truly care about their customers, visit Omakase and help them succeed. Sushi Omakase is the Sushi Nakazawa of New Fairfield! Just as fresh, delicious, and unique but much more affordable and personable. My husband and I sat at the sushi bar and loved talking with and watching Sushi Master Chef Edwin drum up the most mouth watering 10 piece (plus extra!) omakase we've had since moving out of NYC in 2020. I also had a Savigon Blanc with a spicy tuna hand roll, the miso soup, and a specially made Ikura sushi. My husband had the Dassai 45 - Negori Sake and a tuna jalapeño hand roll. We also had the Sandwich roll, so good! We are so excited to finally have an amazing sushi place near by. We will be going back for sure!! read more

It took me a while to find Edwin again after he left Ridgefield! Found him! And worth the ride on beautiful country roads to New Fairfield. I have tried hundreds of Sushi restaurants in the City. Omakase is my favorite! Omakase is a small cozy elegant restaurant. Would not expect less of Edwin. Very busy last night. His wife Sin and daughter just as nice as him, kindly managing, and greeting us. A waitress, passionate about the place and a sous-chef accompanying Chef Edwin in the creation of wonderful, beautiful, delicious sushi that literally melts in your mouth. Very small portions, very limited menu to choose from, and expensive for what you get. Menu had fish egg sushi for $4, which the server said was the masago. I asked for the salmon eggs. The server did not advise for the upcharge, which restaurants typically do, especially when it was 75% more than the listed menu price (was $7/sushi piece). This price is to be expected in Manhattan, but not for this location. What we ordered was fine - nothing spectacular- but because of the limited menu, there would be no reason to go back. read more

this has got to be the most overrated place in new Fairfield. They come across as a boutique sushi restaurant, but there is no atmosphere -the place looks like it was decorated from HomeGoods and while the sushi was good it was just ridiculously overpriced for such small portions. I can't imagine they will stay in business for very long. If you don't care how much you pay for food then you will probably enjoy this place, but there are so many other places nearby that give better food for your dollar. read more
