I come here pretty regularly and it is easily one of my favorites in the Ridgefield area. Many of the waiters from Indonesia and Malaysia are extremely kind and provide awesome service. Hands-down I will say that the dishes to get are on the special menu. Many of these are Indonesian and have the most amazing mix of spices. Our favorites are the Rendang Beef, which is spicy gravy beef dish with broccoli, and the Crispy Duck! I almost don't want to share that second one because it is so good. We've also had the sushi, egg roll, hot and sour soup, Dan Dan noodles, Xiao Long Bao (soup dumplings), fried rice, and different versions of soup noodles (must get the hand-pulled noodles). We liked most of the dishes we had tried and have friends who come here specifically for the noodle soup. In my opinion, Hunan is a real gem. If you're looking for something more than orange chicken or edamame, please try some of their authentic dishes. They are and hard to find around here and are so comforting. read more

I've eaten here a number of times over the years. Generally finding it mediocre. Today, I'm reviewing their Ramen. I really wanted to love this place, but after ordering the regular ramen bowl twice now, I have to skip it moving forward. Both times, the broth was completely unpalatable - overwhelmingly and sickly sweet, rather than savory, rich, and balanced. Traditional ramen broth relies on deep umami and natural flavors, but this tasted heavily artificial and sweet to the point of being inedible. While the "build-your-own-bowl" concept is great and the staff are friendly, the execution on the ramen stock just isn't there. I'd suggest sticking to their stir-fried dishes or traditional Chinese menu items, but unfortunately I've not found them to be much better than the Ramen. read more

My wife loved the udon noodle with tonkotsu broth, instantly declaring it her favorite. I had the hand pulled noodles as we don't normally see those around and they were good enough but in retrospect, I prefer the much thicker udon. The service was slow, taking quite a while to take our orders after seating (we were starving) and another while to bring the check (and they brought the wrong one which the quickly replaced). The food, however, was quick to get to the table once ordered. Because my wife enjoyed her dish so much, we are likely to revisit when around Ridgefield. Ambiance was nice with pretty, colorful big paintings on the walls. Place as a whole is small but not claustrophobic. read more

It doesn't really taste that good. I have nothing specifically against it, my sushi was great (but kinda small), edamame was great, but my rice was just.. ok. It wasn't terrible, but it wasn't great. My mom agrees, her lo mein was a bit bland and boring but not terrible. At first they gave me chicken fried rice when I asked for veggie, and the kind people changed it out and got me the one I asked for. The people are nice, and very helpful truly. It's very relaxing and just has your classic asian restaurant vibes. They had a lot of mints at the front though, and I mean like the GOOD mints. Hunan is a favorite in my family. When you go in person all of the staff is super sweet and accommodating. Their food is delicious, and I really like trying different combinations of their noodle bar menu. If you order noodles with pork it comes with out of this world ribs. Lo mien is great and sushi rolls are good too. They have great lunch specials. The inside is pretty nice and it's located in the center of town. I go back in to pick it up.. say thank you.. but nothing is ever said. No 'hello', no 'thank you', not even a 'you're welcome'. But anyway.. the lunch special was lousy. Price was good. Second to None even including NYC. The People here became our friends and their menu is our normal daily meal when in Ridgefield. You will be seated promptly, get your drinks immediately, then you can choose your "Heaven" meal. They don't rush you. Food comes out also immediately, if you are hungry or in a hurry, this is the place. Parking is easy. The menu is well put together. We always get the crunchy spicy tuna roll, egg drop soup wonton combo, chicken fried rice and a sushi plate. We are always happy right after. For us, there is no better place then this between NYC and Florida. read more

Hit or miss w this place. The rolls are done well. The lunch special is the least expensive around this area, and it is pretty decent. I like the rolls here better than Mannen. The chirashi is subpar. If you want good chirashi the one at Tzen in Cross River serves the best in the area. The noodle soup is good. Not authentic in how it is prepared, but it tastes good. If you "take out" soup, it seems less than what you get when you eat it at the restaurant. I come back. Mostly because it's convenient. I just get the rolls though (lunch special is $14.50 for three rolls + soup or salad -- can't beat that). The fish is generous, and the rice isn't too thick. read more

I wanted to like this place. I really did. My daughter and I had some of the most amazing ramen in PA last month, and we were hoping that we found a place that was just as good. Or close. This was not that place. She chose pork for her protein, which apparently means ribs, with bones. Not sure how you're supposed to eat that with a spoon and/or chopsticks, but it wasn't happening. The broth that she had was "recommended" to have with pork (on the menu). Neither of us could identify the flavor, but we didn't like it. I had shrimp in the vegetable miso broth. Again, no identifiable flavor. It was better than the pork, but not by much. I ate the some of the shrimp and veggies; neither of us came close to finishing. Not a satisfying meal in the least. It was very crowded and the service was very slow, but there was an event in Ridgefield, so I won't hold that against them. I'd imagine the service is better on a regular night. The sushi that others ordered looked really good. If we ever go back, we will definitely try that instead, and we will keep looking for a decent bowl of ramen in the area. read more

Honestly Ridgefield needs a good Noodle place, I have never been this disappoint going to noodle bar . We eat noodle all the time and it is part of my culture, we understand we are not in Singapore, China or in east Asia but still it is Noodle place. I went here for lunch with my daughter, we both got sushi lunch specials which were fresh and tasty. I really liked the salad that came with mine, the dressing and toppings had a lot more flavor than the typical salad at a sushi spot. Seriously, good food. Went in for some Singapore noodles with some shrimp some wonton soup a few other things which were all exceptional piping hot. Wish the female waitress was a bit more friendly to us, but maybe she was just having a bad day. Food came out quickly, even though there were a bit busy at lunchtime. The price is perfect for the amount of food you get some people next to me were complaining about the increase in price at the restaurant. I look forward to going back many more times. I was excited to come here, but should have managed my own expectations better. This is a nice place inside with a bar, a dining counter and tables. But take away any notion of this being a "noodle bar". It is not. It's a pretty ordinary Chinese restaurant and one would be advised to stick with Chinese entrees, like the xaio lung bao (Shanghai soup dumplings) I had as an appetizer. They come with 4 dumplings and they weren't bad. I enjoyed them, which gave me hope the spicy miso ramen I ordered as my entree would be as good. Wrong. Honestly, pretty bad. The broth was sweet, like they dumped a jar of hoisin sauce in it. It wasn't the least bit "spicy" by any standard. The chicken topping was simply a whole grilled chicken breast cut into long slices (like you get on a chicken Caesar salad) and piled on top of the soup. I had to dig to find the noodles, which were over cooked. It also included 2 pieces of bok choy and four slices of hard, undercooked carrots. I have never been known NOT to finish an entire bowl of ramen, but after eating a third of this bowl, I left the remainder on the counter. I don't want to be too hard on this place, as I think if I ordered Chinese instead of Japanese I would have had a better experience. So be it. I ordered take-out for pick-up last night for myself and my 2 kids. 2 major issues here: -My kids love ramen. They usually love the ramen from Miyuki in New Canaan, and Good Hope Dumpling in Norwalk (our favorite). We were in Ridgefield so decided to order here. They tried it from Hunan - and both of them said the broth was WAY too salty, and inedible. I had to cut the salt with boiling water and even then, they said it was very disappointing. -When I ordered my spicy salmon roll, I mentioned I am gluten free and they acknowledged it. When I went in to pick it up I noticed the receipt read "Crunchy Salmon Roll." They used tempura flakes (NOT gluten free) for the roll. I pointed it out and they re-made it. I have to admit, the sushi was pretty good. I am surprised, since the ramen was so bad. Also, they were nice about the mix-up. But I will never order from there again when there are obviously much better places to eat. read more

Ramen! I've been in search of a good bowl of ramen since leaving NYC and I've finally found one! Friends of ours recommended Hunan noodle knowing I was a fan and boy are we glad they did. We've tried a number of their other dishes as well and found All of them quite enjoyable. Their sushi was fresh and tasty and they have a nice variety offered. They have a full bar serving all the usual beer and wine while also having a small offering of Saki's for those that enjoy. Week nights can be fairly crowded and weekends are packed so recommend reservations (I think they take them) if eating in. We tend to order to go if it's a crowded time to avoid the wait. FYI they do the ramen right so that when you arrive home you can, if you choose, reheat the broth before then pouring over your noodles and enjoying. The atmosphere is nice and they have a number of tables. We've eaten in before and had no real complaints. Only reason for taking a star is the speed of service can be a bit slow at times, even when the restaurant isn't super busy. Overall we very much enjoy this place and go fairly often. I also saw that they had pork buns so I asked about it. She told me that one order comes with 3 small steamed pork buns. I ordered the pork buns to try. The soup was okay and the wontons we're mushy and not to flavorful. The egg roll I didn't care for at all. The chicken and broccoli and fried rice I didn't care for either. The pork buns weren't pork buns. They were buns with wonton meat in it. I don't know how everything else is, I just know what I had I didn't care for. read more

The food was disappointing. We had the Wonton Soup, Mongolian Beef and the Pork with Snow Peas. Picked it up. The Good: the food was packaged nicely and looked pleasant, properly prepared and all fresh. All the usually oriental food accompaniments were given as well. The Sad Part: The Wonton broth was a regular kind of broth without any hint of Asian origin. The rice was "Regular Rice" not lumpy and not to be eaten with chopsticks. The beef was without any flavor, least of all with an Asian one. The vegetable looked nicely prepared but without any flavor as well. The pork did have some very mild flavor but not an Asian one; bland vegetables with that one as well. The meal is appropriate for someone who does not like real typically Asian cuisine. The broth was bland, the firecracker shrimp was inedible (all the shrimp was not deveined and you could see black veins on every shrimp and the batter fell off most of the shrimp and was in a heap in the container). Amazing! I absolutely love that you can design your own soups. We Szechuan all the time in NYC and this was right up there. I am gluten free so getting to choose rice noodles in a ramen-type soup is rare. My friend got the hand pulled noodles and said they were chewy and delicious!
